Sole suspect in Jennifer Hudson family murders to remain in custody

William Balfour, the prime suspect in the slaying of Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew, has been ordered to remain in custody despite not having been charged with the murders yet. Balfour is being kept in the state’s custody for parole violations in stemming from information gathered in the investigation into the murders of Darnell Donerson, Jason Hudson, and Julian King.

The estranged husband of Jennifer’s sister Julia Hudson, William has been in custody since Oct. 26, but has not been charged for the triple-homicide that has shattered the Hudson family.

The Illinois Prisoner Review Board determined this morning that there is enough evidence to show that Balfour has committed a crime that violates his parole, based on his girlfriend’s testimony that he appeared to have a gun that matched the murder weapon. Otherwise he could’ve gone free.

[From OK! Magazine]

Balfour has admitted to police to being in Darnell Donerson’s house the morning of the murders but has not confessed to the crimes. One of his multiple girlfriends, however, has told police that he condfided in her that he was involved in the triple homicide.

I’ve watched enough Law & Order to know that they like to wait as long as possible to actually press charges, giving as much time as they can to collect evidence to secure a conviction. The parole violation buys the prosecution more time to put together the case against Balfour. It’s a little unnerving, though, that there has been no arrest made in this case. You can’t help but feel if they had the right guy without a doubt, he would have been charged by now. If they do, more time can only work in the prosecution’s favor, so I for one, am pleased to hear something kept William Balfour in jail.

So sad. I hope the Hudson family will be able to seek solace through the justice system.
