Martha Stewart’s death stare sends Rachael Ray fleeing from restaurant

This week’s National Enquirer had a pretty good story about how Rachael Ray’s show was moving into Martha Stewart’s now-cancelled show’s old studio, and how Martha considered it a slap in the face. I wasn’t sure if it was true or not, since it was a conclusion that could be easily be made given the facts and what we already know about their longstanding feud. Well there’s a juicy article in the NY Post this morning claiming that Martha Stewart and Rachael Ray ended up at the same restaurant, and that Martha’s bitch stare made Rachael so uncomfortable she left without eating her dinner. The feud between these two cooking divas is on, and my money is on Martha.

There was a giant serving of frosting when dueling domestic divas Martha Stewart and Rachael Ray bumped into each other at hot new restaurant Il Buco Alimentaria & Vineria.

The atmosphere froze over when the rival cuisine queens found themselves at nearby tables at the buzzy Great Jones Street eatery on Thursday night.

Witnesses said Stewart, whose daytime television show was recently canceled, was “noticeably glaring in Ray’s direction throughout her meal.” Meanwhile, Ray, who was seated with Time magazine food writer Josh Ozersky, became visibly uncomfortable — so much so that after having her appetizer, she left with her main course in a doggie bag.

Sources told us Stewart may have the knives out because Ray’s daytime show is moving into her now-vacated studio.
Another witness told us: “Martha was staring Rachael down as soon as she walked in with a group of friends. Martha looked disgruntled. You could definitely feel Martha’s heat in that kitchen.”

A third source added: “They were both there for dinner unbeknownst to the other. Rachael’s daytime show is moving into Martha’s old studio. I’m sure Martha isn’t excited that Rachael is moving into her space. Rachael is fond of Martha; she’s had her on her show before. It was very uncomfortable for Rachael. She and her group had their appetizers, then asked for their entrees to go.”

Relations between the two TV titans came to a boil once before, in 2009, after Stewart told “Nightline,” “[Rachael] just did a new cookbook, which is just a re-edit of a lot of her older recipes. And that’s not good enough for me . . . Rachael is different. She’s more of an entertainer . . . with her bubbly personality, than she is teacher, like me. That’s not what she’s professing to be.” Stewart later issued a half-apology. Ray’s spokesperson declined to comment, and Stewart’s rep said, “Martha was not aware Rachael was in the restaurant.”

[From The NY Post]

Doesn’t this story sound like it’s from Rachael’s camp? I guess it could have come from a source working at the restaurant, or anyone lucky enough to be there and witness this stare fest first hand. I wouldn’t want to be on Martha Stewart’s bad side. She could kill you with a couple deft knife strokes and then dispose of the body so creatively you would have no idea that her beautiful centerpiece contained real human bones.

Here are some photos of Rachael Ray’s crazy face. How does this annoying woman still have a thriving career while Martha just had her show canceled?

    rachel is possibly the most annoying person ever. she should flee from martha. haha.

    • Jenn says:

      She’s the most annoying person ever? I nominate EVERY reality show wh*re before her. Marthas a jerk but no way you leave a restaurant cause some old hag is looking at you. Period.

      • bros says:

        old hag? she looks pretty f’ing good for 70. we should all be so lucky.

        rachel looks like more of a hag. or slag, I should say.

    • jamie says:

      Agreed. Something about Rachel Ray is like nails on a chalk board to me.

      • atorontogal says:

        At least Rachel didn’t do jail time. And talk about annoying what is more annoying than someone who knows EVERYTHING about everything!

  2. po says:

    Wow, those pictures of Rachel were just creepy.

  3. Gia says:

    Ugh….I love Martha. Always have, even though she’s a stone cold bitch. She’s the O.G..

    • Veruca says:

      I totally agree, Gia (although I’m clueless as to what an “O.G.” is).

      Martha is definitely part of the cause of my OCD, and I thank her for it.

      Rachael seems like a twit.

      • anon33 says:

        Totally agree with both of you!!! LMAO about the OCD I am exactly the same and it’s due to Martha (and my mom.)

        OG=Original Gangster. (TM Ice-T.)

    • PyrLover says:

      Ms. Stone-Cold-Felon-Face needs a new bra for the girls.Things are lookin’ a little droopy.

    • Sloane Wyatt says:

      I LOVE my OG! Martha has it going on, and, yes, she’s a cold one, mean to her daughter & employees, done a little jail, in other words what the world calls any successful woman.

      Martha needs to blaze some new trails ’cause she’s tough as nails!

      Ms. Ray, well, I could just never stand watching her, even if it’s just a tiny amount in a youtube outtake.

  4. Jackie says:

    i tried watching ray’s show once and had to turn it off after 10 mins.

    she was making a one pot meal of just meat and cheese. so disgusting.

    also, her audience gave fake applause every 10 sec.

  5. shaniqua nunyadambidness says:

    Rachel is extremely over-exposed. I mean, she didn’t need 3 Food Network shows, a magazine AND a “talk show.” Now, when I look at her, all I see is that gaping maw (btw – give a floss pick some love, Rachel). And her raspy voice doesn’t do a thing for me either.
    Having said all that, Martha’s stank eye terrifies the H-E-double hockey sticks outta me.

  6. Snowangel says:

    Martha Mewart all the way ! I don’t need Rachel Ray to teach me how to make sloppy joes.

  7. macey says:

    RR has always annoyed me,she just seems so phony.
    I didnt know she had that many shows on the air. Id take MS over her any day.

  8. dahlia noir says:

    martha is an ex-con, I would have gone too!

  9. Mac says:

    Martha sounds like a real class act.

    Probably honed her death stare while she was in prison.

    • podzol says:

      Hahahaha! She probably did, indeed.

      • ab says:

        “she honed her death stare in prison…”
        hahahaha!
        Yes, yes, quite. Whilst she feverishly whittled a proper cuttlery set out of prison soap and plastic sporks, all the while using the tiny shavings as glitter for holiday prison fare. It’s a good thing.
        (ps. can’t help it but I love Martha and her militaristic perfectionism!)

  10. LMS says:

    Can’t stand either one of them. If I walked into a restaurant and saw them both I would turn around and leave.

  11. NYC_girl says:

    I went to a taping of Martha’s show – my friend got tickets. The set is amazing – it’s huge and there’s a big kitchen off to one side. She was a bitch though – she didn’t acknowledge the audience at all and was so obnoxious during any conversation with staff. It was painful to watch.

    • anytime says:

      i thought everybody knew that martha stewart is an evil, self-important wannabe. everyone i knew acknowledged that when her now canceled show was on (a very long time ago). and those people weren’t even big on gossip like i sorta am now.

      • jesstar says:

        Wannabe? She’s actually the original the others all want to be.

      • anytime says:

        @jesstar i still think she’s a wannabe because her cooking is nothing special and neither are her homemade ornaments. she just came out at the right time, when the t.v. was obviously starved for a do-at-home person like her. maybe people didn’t really know how to cook much, ate out or ordered, or maybe they weren’t sure how they would start cooking better meals or wanted to try something new. either way she got lucky, but it’s always her guests that made all the cooking in her show special.

    • Kimbob says:

      Thanks for your story. Kinda puts things into perspective as to why her show was cancelled. I mean, how HARD would it have been for her to acknowledge the audience who was obviously there to watch her? I mean, REALLY?

      I guess she doesn’t believe in random acts of kindness, huh? I’m still scratching my head that she wouldn’t even acknowledge the audience…WOW!

      • NYC_girl says:

        Yes, we were laughing at her behavior. Esp during commercial breaks – we didn’t expect her to come up to the audience and socialize with us, the unwashed masses, but she’d would stay far away on the set. She filmed a few promo spots after the show wrapped and she was so obnoxious to the staff. If you have a chance read this – it sums her up very well:

        http://nymag.com/news/features/martha-stewart-2011-8/

        I admire her for not kissing up or pretending she’s something she’s not. But, I certainly wouldn’t spend money on any of her crap. Her behavior backfires.

      • anytime says:

        @NYC_girl that’s really unwise for a lady who seemingly would like to be/appear more cunning than she is. housewives are an audience that thrives on the warm personality and genuine ambience of the show/hostess. she just let her facade slip too easily i guess

  12. Missy Mara says:

    Battle of the crazy chipmunks!

  13. anytime says:

    lol this feud between the passive aggressive old ladies is hilarious. especially since nobody gives a damn about either of them. chill ladies just cook nice food and enjoy your not-so well earned money!

    • Jackson says:

      You think RR is old??

      • anytime says:

        ok i just looked up her birthdate and it roughly puts her at 45… she looked much older, so i assumed about 50 or maybe she is lying about it. who cares? point is that she is irrelevant and so is cancelled martha. they’re only gossip fodder now, where the rest of the dud stars go. and maybe 45 isn’t considered super-old in this day and age, but it still doesn’t exactly make her a youngster either!

  14. Snowflake says:

    I like Rachel Ray. She seems more down-to-earth than Martha. Martha assumes we are all housewives with nothing better to do than spend hours making her projects. Rachel is more relatable to regular working women

  15. some bitch says:

    I bet Martha could shank a bitch if she needed to. Every time I hear Rachael Ray refer to olive oil as “E-V-O-O” I find myself getting angry. She’s THAT annoying.

  16. Jackson says:

    Martha should show a little class. RR didn’t kick her out of the studio or get her show canceled. Times have changed – not everyone wants to spend hours and hours in the kitchen for one freaking meal…and that is coming from someone who loves to cook. I remember LMAO when MS made homemade marshmallows, just because.

    • Hautie says:

      “I remember LMAO when MS made homemade marshmallows, just because….”
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      OMG… I saw Martha make those on Oprah’s show a few years ago. And that was the moment I realize that Martha is just crazy as hell.
      Those marshmallows were not a fast thing to prepare.
      And of course Martha was making hot chocolate.
      But not just any ole hot chocolate.
      But hot WHITE chocolate.
      Martha no longer has a show because she made the mistake of treating everyone… including the network who aired her show… like peasants that should not look her in eye.
      Much less speak to her, unless spoken to first. Being a unpleasant hag, will eventually catch up to you.
      And now Rachel Ray has your studio. Making hamburger helper daily and getting paid to do it.
  17. Nev says:
    do not mess with Miss Martha…she is total gangsta.
  18. Seagulls says:
    Martha should’ve never gone to cable; daytime TV is a wasteland on the regular dial. I don’t have cable and I missed watching her show. Rachael Ray is probably a very nice person, but her methods aren’t really methods at all, just the ersatz version. Come back, Martha!
  19. InVain says:
    I don’t watch either of these women…BUT, RR was “discovered” and/or originally started her cooking career where I live. She started out small in locally owned grocery stores and had a few instructional classes and still owns a summer home here. Anyone I know that has had experience working with her when she lived here or sees her in passing when she’s visiting home says she’s VERY nice, down to earth…she seems to stay very low-key when she’s here too.
    • InVain says:
      Also, one of my best friends went to her show twice and was used to ask questions as an audience member and was allowed to go back stage after a taping and she said it was an awesome experience…and after meeting RR, couldn’t stop gushing about her.
  20. Jessica says:
    Rachal reminds me of Jwoww! lol
  21. lola says:
    can’t stand rachel ray and her evoo
  22. ezra says:
    Rachel Ray- yuck!!
    Good on you Martha.
    Not that I’m a fan of Martha’s, she has some despicable traits as well, but at least she’s not moronic or mediocre.
  23. Malificent says:
    I bet Martha knows how to make shank out of an heirloom aspargus fork….
    • TXEggplant says:
      LOL!
    • ab says:
      ITA! I just similarly commented above before I scrolled to you! And how to make a lovely desert blush wine using a standard stainless steel prison/sink combo using vending machine grape flavor fruit gummi snacks, fermented single serving foil top apple juice and “smuggled in”…organic cinnamon sticks.
  24. MeMeME says:
    It should’ve read that the annoying doggie left without eating its dinner.
  25. TMB says:
    Martha’s show was super successful in the past because it was done in pre-taped segments. She has always been a bitch, but you never really saw it because of the editing. They made a huge mistake in changing her show into a day time talk show format. She is not a “regular” people person and you can see she doesn’t like being in front of an audience. I’m surprised the show lasted as long as it did.
  26. Karen says:
    Martha was framed! OK, she wasn’t but really, they made an example out of her, damn uppity woman! While she was in jail she showed inmates how to forage for dandelion greens to improve the jailfood, and fix their clothes. She is now a proponant of improving conditions in women’s jails and improving their nutrition. O.G. indeed!!
  27. RdyfrmycloseupmrDvlle says:
    To the women on here hating Martha.
    First off, she’s far from a wanna be. I remember when my mother bought her first book in the LATE 1970s!!! She was a housewife that ran her own catering company. She was THE FIRST and ORIGINAL home styling, gourmet pre-paring guru.
    So, she is the ORIGINAL. NOT a “wannabe.” PUH-leeze.
    Secondly, she not MEANT to be relatable. She is an arbiter of GOOD TASTE> She is meant to hold up and asperation.
    Thirdly, I am SOOOOOOOO tired of highly successful women being slagged off for not being warm and fuzzy enough. Yeah, shes a cold bitch but you know what? Shes actually very funny in a dry dark way.
    I respect her that she doesnt try to pretend shes something thats shes not. Not everyone is a warm fuzzy sweetie pie and I think its stupid that a lot of women fans make that some sort of requirement.
    Personally I find her recepies amazing and Ive learned a lot about housekeeping and such that I otherwise would never have learned ( my mother was a hippie). So, in short, I really dont give a damn that a cold bitchy woman taught me how to do laundry properly!!
    PS: How many super successful men are total bitches but they are called “assertive” and such?
    Just sayin………………….
    • Blondey says:
      Word. Martha is awesome – a fantastic teacher of the domestic arts for the rest of us – where else can I learn what time of year and how to clean out my bird feeders?
    • sup says:
      wow, i really hit home with that wannabe comment, huh? i’m guessing you’re either martha herself or her daughter, or somebody close to her. otherwise i can’t think of a reason why anybody would make such an enthusiactic long post to defend her! her cooking just doesn’t do it for me, and her little paper creations suck, we did better stuff in school, and if she was really “going for greatness” than she should have made more intelligent business decisions! and she’s a mean person who makes her employees cry. just read nyc_girl’s link for that. so i don’t feel sorry for her one bit. rachael is annoying, but she was far more gracious in facing adversaries.
  28. sickandtired says:
    When Rachel first came on the scene I tried watching her show but noticed she didn’t rinse her meat. She’d unwrap it from the plastic (straight from the grocery store)and proceed to cook it. Anyway the 1st couple of times I thought No Way, I must have missed a step but repeatedly she’d open that greenish refrig and pull some meat wrapped in it’s plastic, price tag still visible and plop it right over into the pan. She’s a dirty cook…stopped watching it after that. She was as bad an that old Cajun man who could cook but was always pulling his dirty bandana/hankerchief from his back pocket and wiping his nose!!! EWWWWWW can’t do dirty, sorry. Martha is a little too much but I would eat anything she prepared over Rachel anyday. At least you know she’s a definite clean freak/fanatic.
    • Grace says:
      sickandtired: I loathe to think that I would ever come to RR’s defense, however, not washing meat doesn’t make one a “dirty cook.” As a matter of fact, the USDA and Federal Safety Inspection Service advises that meat should NOT be washed prior to cooking. Washing meat leads to greater cross contamination in the kitchen, with small splashes landing on counter tops, floors, your body, etc. It also contaminates your sink making it difficult to safely wash fruits and vegetables that are to be consumed raw. It is advised that a person use a food thermometer to gauge the temperature of the meat they are cooking to ensure bacteria has been killed rather than rinse it off. Most people who wash meat don’t usually wash ground beef of bacon because because it makes them soggy or fall apart, but that’s counterintuitive because these items go through the same processing plants as other meat products. So really, the meat washer is the dirtier cook.
  29. HadleyB says:
    I like Martha. Always have. My mom bought her stuff way back in the day too and yes, we all know she is not a very “likable” person. But then again, who cares?
    I would rather know that up front, and I still respect her as a business woman. A MAN can be a dick, assertive, ruthless, but it’s ok if he’s a successful businessman, because he’s getting the job done right? A woman is a bitch though and it’s a shame, other WOMEN call each other that … more women need to stop doing that because men keep ruling the world.
    Anyway .. not everyone needs to be a ass kissin people loving faker .. Oprah? many managers I have worked for? lol.. Be up front about your real self and I will be able to respond to your personality better.
  30. Sabrina says:
    Please. Martha has forgotten more than that classless moron Ray will ever know. While Stewart has always been scary, at least her taste has always been impeccable. Ray is total low-rent and down-market, and forces her PR flacks to plant items like this and really shitty ones about Giada DeLaurentiis. Her food has always been crap and her “lifestyle” magazine is a joke (only impressive to TPT).
    • Jill says:
      Oh Lord, why’d you have to bring up GDL? I can’t stand that woman and her fake-ass toothy smile. But I can’t stand Ray and her EVOO either.
  31. Feebee says:
    She left the restaurant? Couldn’t she just have raised her glass to her and explained they were just celebrating their upcoming move?
  32. Melissa says:
    Is that a giant cavity on one of Rach’s lower molars, or just some food that got stuck?
  33. jnyc says:
    I work in a restaurant where Martha eats frequently- she is intimidating and gives a lot of looks to everyone around her; but, she is also gracious, patient and extremely kind. Always. I doubt Rachel Ray even enters her radar as anyone other than a diner in her proximity who probably doesn’t have good manners and is making too much noise.
  34. cowtownjanet says:
    I’ve read thru this…I think both women are extremely talented, in different ways, but nevertheless, extremely talented. As far as RR, I think most comments were very unfair and she is not a dumbbell, far from it, I would venture to say no one in this dialog has had her success. MS is very successful and yes, not well know for her people skills…I found her to even be very demeaning to her guests at times, and oh, by the way, for a previous comment about her being an advocate for better conditions in Women’s prisons…well, by all means, let’s give our criminals a better lifestyle…REALLY, and that is because why? Let’s face it, it is prison, which means they are there to be punished not given a better life than they had on the streets. I say, let both ladies have their day in the limelight.
  35. donna says:
    leave RACHAEL RAY alone i have been watching her for years and learned alot from her,yes martha has taught ppl too but she has no right to blame RACHEL RAY for her mistakes in life or T.V. LEAVE MY GIRL RACHAEL ALONE I THINK SHE’S AWESOME…:)))
