Beyonce wants to play Wonder Woman

There was hot competition to play the role of Wonder Woman in the upcoming Justice League film, with several actresses suggested for the part. Kate Beckinsale, Lauren Graham, Megan Fox, Sandra Bullock, and Catherine Zeta Jones are some of the names that have been suggested.

The film will feature Australian model Megan Gale cast as the woman with the world’s best accessories, although former Wonder Woman Lynda Carter says an unknown 20-year-old should have been cast. Depending on the success of the film a movie spin-off is likely, and Beyonce thinks a black Wonder Woman is in order, starring herself of course:

“I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman?” Beyonce told the Los Angeles Times.

“And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right?”

Beyonce will soon be seen playing singer Etta James in the film Cadillac Records, and she is also starring in the thriller Obsessed.

“After doing these roles that were so emotional I was thinking to myself: ‘Okay, I need to be a superhero’,” Beyonce said.

“Although, when you think about the psychology of the heroes in the films these days, they are still a lot of work, of course, and emotional.”

Hollywood remakes like to stay true to the original, at least physically, think Daisy Dukes ass or Starsky and Hutch’s facial hair, but here I think you have a costume to work for the role. Beyonce could totally pull this off, in her Sasha Fierce mode, of course.

The reason for the hot competition for this role is that there are less leading roles for women in action films. So often they get to play the wife or girlfriend, or occasionally a sidekick. They don’t often get to tote guns and do the fun stuff, particularly in a comic book role. The movie is likely to establish the actress a being an A-list star and lead to spin offs, as well as excellent merchandise.

  3. I think Beyonce would make a great wonder woman. But I think Catherine Zeta Jones would make an even better one :/

  4. No. I like her, but she is not the right one for that role. I agree with Lynda Carter…an unknown would be better.

  5. 8O Uh….. NO !!

I’d take Megan Fox (even though it was a hoax) first over Miss One Name.

  6. Please, please PLEASE, for the love of GOD do not let this non-acting, conceited woman sully that character! Truth be told, there is only 1 Wonder Woman for me: Linda Carter!!!!! Beyonce is sooo full of herself, she needs to stop immediately. I’m so annoyed at how she says she wants to become an icon. Isn’t that something other people will eventually say about you during the course of your career and not something you claim or broadcast about yourself? I mean Tina Turner (who Beyonce wants to be like soooo bad) didn’t start out saying she wanted to be an icon, she evolved into one after years and years of hard work. Sheesh!

  7. I’m getting a little weary of all this ‘the time is right for a black this and a black that’ stuff. First Bond, now Wonder Woman. Obama was elected because he’s a fine, decent, intelligent man, who happens to also be black, but who made it on the strength of his abilities and not his colour. He deserved his victory because of the man he is, not the colour of his skin.

If there’s a black actress in the frame for this role, great, but she needs to be there for her acting skills and abilities and not just because the current social climate is more favourable to a black woman in this role.

The time will never be right for bad (or even mediocre) actors to feel entitlement to roles, on the strength of their colour, which rightly belong to those with the best acting chops. There are countless black actors out there with the proper credentials. Beyonce is not one of them.

Please take this post in the spirit it’s intended. It’s 100% pro-quality and recognition of talent, regardless of the colour of a person’s skin.

  9. What about all the people that voted for Obama just becuase they thought it was time for a black president? You can’t deny that that didn’t have alot of influence. Alot of people that voted for him don’t know squat about him other than he’s black.

Anyway this has nothing to do with Wonder Woman. My vote is for Meagan Fox. She looked smoking in the photo shopped pic. She could definately be an A-lister. Catherine Zeta Jones has been quite lately but this would definately put her back in the spotlight. Sandra Bullock is a big fat no in my book. I really like the idea of casting an unknown in the part. Beyonce can’t act.

  11. Don’t you need to be able to act if you were to take on a role like that? Just wondering.

  13. I third or fourth or whatever # what geronimo wrote. I can’t see another stepping into Linda Carter’s boots, but if someone tried, though unsure of acting ability, how about Katherine McPhee (sp?) and I am African American….Beyonce, stop and stick with what you are good at, dressing up/singing/gryating. Good thing she’s realizing less is more and going more natural….she is also trying to put an edge on because someone else (Rhi….)has put some fiya under her bottom, though I know they are cut from different fabric.

  14. My disapointment is: Beyonce has been inviting HERSELF to these spotlights and opportunities lately. Like she did with the White House Inaugeration. She’s really too sure that people will consider her for such events just because she has a nice figure, she has a great voice and that she is now married to JayZ but she needs to understand that it doesn’t work that way. Sorry Mrs. Carter 8)

  15. I know she’s usually blond but my vote will always be for Uma Thurman to take on the role. I Love her in action roles and she speaks intelligently and clearly which is needed for the Navy/Wonder Woman role.
    Go Uma!

Beyonce has far too big a butt, far too thick of thighs and even knees too! Her body is NOT ONE to be in a Wonder Woman outfit! Did you SEE her on SNL?!?

  21. Lauren Graham is a perfect choice for wonder woman. I dont think i will be as keen to see the movie if it she isnt cast as wonder woman.
