So far, it seems like LaineyGossip is one of the few sites talking about this. Michael Fassbender might be dating his Shame costar Nicole Beharie? What the…? No, I’m not really shocked. She’s his type – petite, dark-skinned, exotic beauty, full lips. That really is his type. All I’ve got is the dark-skinned part (GAH!). Anyway, if you go here, you can see the new photos of Michael and Nicole walking around New York yesterday (or sometime this week?). The photos in this post are of Michael and Nicole filming Shame last year – March 2011.
You know what else was happening in March 2011? Michael was dating Zoe Kravitz. I suspect Zoe and Fassy were living together in her NYC apartment too. So just how and when did Nicole couple-up, if that’s what we’re seeing? Is it one of those “we worked together a year ago and now we’re dating” things? I never buy those things. I always think that the people were hooking up as they working together. So was Michael fooling around with Nicole while he was with Zoe? Eh. For what it’s worth, I’ve never been completely sure that Michael and Zoe were as “couple-y” as was assumed. They spent months apart at various times, and I think they had a loose definition of their “relationship.”
What do you need to know about Nicole? She’s 27 years old. She’s an up-and-coming actress who has begun to work steadily in film and television over the past few years – you can see her IMDB here. I think she’s really beautiful, and she’s one of those women who looks totally different depending on her makeup and hair situation. Considering this is the first time they’ve been photographed together in a casual situation, I don’t know what to think about their relationship. Dating? Friends with benefits? True love? GAH. Oh, and over the past few months, there have been rumors and “sightings” of Fassy with an unnamed dark-skinned beauty – so maybe it’s been going on for a while? There’s also a report from London a few weeks ago that Michael and Nicole were loved up across the pond.
I’m not saying that Fassy hasn’t broken my heart a little. He has. But if this is what he wants… *sob* I’m not going to blame Nicole for ridin’ the Fassdong. God bless her, you know? Somebody’s got to.

Just in my opinion male friends do not hold your hand unless they are leading you somewhere or guiding…in these pics they are side by side casually holding hands. When not holding hands he has his arm around her shoulder.

Self-hatred? Well, I am black and was married to a white jewish guy and it didn’t have anything to do with self-hatred. He was smart, funny, and we came from similar backgrounds (mainly, we both had crazy families)and we had lots in common. We grew apart over the years and are now divorced, but are still friends. While there ARE some people who date outside of their race because of self-esteem/self-hatred issues, there are many others who happen to fall in love with someone who doesn’t look like them.

Why does every description of a black woman have to say she’s “exotic” looking when they describe how pretty she is? Nicole is American and she’s usually photographed wearing (nice but) very normal clothing. She’s a beautiful woman, full stop.

Ive been called exotic looking for a black girl and I took it as a major insult and politely let the guy know to never refer to me or any other woman as “exotic” for (insert race). I’m black, too, and I don’t co-sign it being not okay to refer to black girls as exotic. There’s not a hard and fast definition of exotic-looking in the United States other than “not conventional-looking white,” and black women certainly aren’t that. Calling a black woman exotic is pretty much a way to celebrate the beauty of her black features while avoiding the rather stressful and decidedly not-sexy language of race and ethnicity. Also, it’s usually meant in a complementary way. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. I don’t normally judge the way someone compliments me. So if someone wants to call me exotically beautiful (which has happened before), I just say thanks and keep it moving!

Exotic is not derogatory and usually used positively to describe a beauty that is not the norm of the majority, hence in here non caucasian. It means ‘coming from a far away country presenting a different type’.
A sweedish or white person is exotic to Africans.
And Nicole looks exactly like a nigerian, which she is through her father since she is nigerian and jamaican born in the US. Plenty of nigerianS, ghaneeanS, africans look like her.
It seems for many people, including AA, exotic means ‘presenting a certain type of african features and skintone’. It’s not, it just means something different than the majority. Basicly any minority is exotic to the majority. Again, a caucasian person is exotic to an African.
It’s just that it has been more used in the other way around and it’s definition has been distorted in the perception of many black, white and whatever ethnicities people have who all link exotic to a certain type of african features…which is absolutely not the definition to begin with !
