Megan Fox says she was distorted: “I’ve never made vapid, self-serving comments”

Last week, we covered Megan Fox’s appearance on the French magazine Jalouse. The quotes from the cover interview were widely disseminated and criticized. Some pointed out that Megan likely did the interview in English, then the piece was translated into French, and then re-translated into English. Well, something was lost in translation. It’s official. That what Megan is claiming now after she received a lot of criticism (from me!) for saying something along the lines of “I live well with my image. I cannot complain. I would not trade places with an unattractive girl.” Megan now says that she didn’t say anything like that.

Megan Fox may be one of the hottest women in Hollywood–but she wants to make it clear that she doesn’t see herself that way.

The 25-year-old Friends With Kids actress is featured on the cover of French magazine Jalouse’s April issue. In their interview with her, Fox is quoted as saying she “live[s] well with my image. I cannot complain. I would not trade my place with an unattractive girl.”

An annoyed Fox took to her Facebook page Friday to clarify her comments. “Before this starts to circulate and spin into something else I want to address a ‘quote’ that has started to run from an interview I did with a French magazine called Jalouse. The quote reads ‘i wouldn’t trade my place with an unattractive girl’ Sigh. The actual comment, the context and it’s intention are grossly distorted and misrepresented here. I gave this interview in English obviously, it was then translated to French and now back into English. I’ve never made vapid self serving comments and in contradiction am uncontrollably self deprecating.”

Earlier this month, Fox opened up to MIAMI magazine about feeling insecure and lonely as a teen. “I was never the pretty girl,” she shared, calling her younger self “obnoxious” and “abrasive.”

Some French speakers went to the original French interview and re-translated the offending portion. The second translation has Megan saying something like, “I’m in control because I don’t allow people to emotionally abuse me. I’m at ease with my image, I can’t complain, I wouldn’t trade places with an ugly girl. But, it’s only what I allow to be seen” (thanks to commenter Wendi for that translation). I think Megan’s Facebook statement is interesting for three big reasons. One, it’s a statement to all of those people who were defending the alleged mis-translation – even Megan thinks the comments were “vapid” and “self-serving”. Two, she doesn’t try to explain what she was originally trying to say – she’s only saying that she wasn’t trying to say THAT. Three, at this stage of life, Megan thinks we’ve forgotten about her history of saying really dumb stuff. True, she might not have said this particular dumb thing, but she can’t claim to be mis-translated every time she says something stupid, insulting, vapid, and self-serving. In fact, Megan has claimed in the past that she says dumb sh-t ON PURPOSE in interviews to “throw people off the scent” of her real personality. Perhaps that’s what happened here.

Does she come across as vapid? Yes. Is she really? I don’t know, but I do know that I like her anyways. She’s not an amazing actress but there are a lot of people in Hollywood who aren’t amazing and are doing well.

Jennifer’s Body was a surprisingly fun movie and she held her own.

She kind of became the underdog against Micheal Bay and the Hollywood machine, and I always root for the underdog.

    • Sally says:

Michael Bay is, from all accounts, at completely misogynic control freak dirtbag. Even though she did her career no good, I personally applaud Fox for calling the *sshole out on his behaviour. This is the guy who supposedly has a website up that lists the actresses that will screw for a part and then rates them. And then hands out the password to his friends.

      • sup says:

she didn’t call him an asshole about being a misogynist at all, and she had no issues with bending over a truck or a motorbike and reenact pron scenes. nor did she have issues on the supposed car wash video that she did. she had issues with him being a strict director (which is what all directors are), and “forcing them to see the giza pyramids” (ever the nerdy intellectual -eyeroll-) Don’t get me wrong, I have no love for the man, and I never cared for his shitty movies, but I take the word of the 3 crewmen who penned the open letter about Megan being a spoiled c u next tuesday, and that in spite of his flaws, Michael Bay is loved by his crew because he works with them and their loyalty is cooperative. Megan was probably trying hard to be cool and quirky again during that interview but that was the last stroke for some people who have had it with her dumb attitudes. Neither Bay or she are the heroes of feminism that people seek, sorry2say

oh and btw that lame website blind item was the biggest bs i heard of. why? because the writers of this non-existent wiki, supposedly disqualify a fellow director when he gets married, they change the password and do not let him in anymore. you’d think that if such assholes existed, they would have no qualms about letting a married man cheat on his wife, right? besides why keep it on the internet, where it can be discovered and hacked? anyway even if it were true (which i doubt, sounds like fanfiction written by basement dwellers to me) there was nothing about the item that alluded specifically to michael bay himself as an initiator. and there you have it

      • Betty says:

Bay probably pressured those people to write that “open letter”. I have a friend in the media industry (not movies) who’s former collegue was working on a publicity “outshoot” of the last Transformers movie. One: Dude is such a control freak that the (production company) blew $10 million on a campaign that never made it to the public because a) Bay rejected everything that was sent in and b) there was a deadline and what he didn’t reject, he just ignored. He was rude, abrasive and a complete d*ck to everyone that was obliged to be in contact with him.

That is not the sort of person who inspires spontaneous open letters defending his honour. Sorry.

As for Fox “playing” the HW game. Get real… Thousands of actresses, you have the chance to be noticed above the rest… Do you say no to playing a bimbo? Did Brad Pitt refuse to play a Himbo in Thelma and Louise, his first big break? Let’s try to be a teeny bit realistic about the world these people live in.

I can’t believe you’re defending Bay. Are you a guy?

      • sup says:

@Betty I have clearly stated in my comment that I wasn’t defending Bay at all. I know my comment was quite long for a site like this, but unless you read it all, do not reply. Because you can’t base those accusations on anything I wrote there, quite the contrary. And I’m a girl. And Brad Pitt’s first role may not have been great but it’s far removed from Megan’s work. Thelma and Louise is a classic cult movie, one beloved by feminists at that. Bad comparison.

      • Sally says:

@sup: you’ve obviously missed my point. Bay did not get that “open letter of support” because he’s a nice guy that the crew suports. He most likely got it because he told a few crew members that if they didn’t sign it, they’d never work again. He’s not “well liked” or “admired” by the people who work for him because he’s a complete d*ck to anyone “beneath” him.

As to Fox / Pitt… I don’t care about the film and it’s status. My point here was that people trying to get their big break in HW will take on roles that they wouldn’t even read the script for if they were already established. And if that role, no matter how exploitive of a hot bod it is, will get you further towards your goal of being able to pick and choose, who are any of us to point fingers and say “Oh, she sure didn’t have a problem with THAT scene”.

      • sup says:

@Betty or Sally w/e i didn’t miss your “point” i just didn’t address it as you don’t really have one. all you do is keep on basing your arguments on your personal assumptions, first the blind item thing being true/about bay and now this new theory of yours. i’m not a fan of his either but one should always accuse others based on solid proof, not their own personal fantasies. What proof do you have that Bay would threaten them about writing such a letter? And if that were the case then why would they write it anonymously? And Megan didn’t just pose like that for the crappy movies, she also did photoshoots for mags (not commercials) around the same era where she stuck out her butt and posed with her hands on the floor like an adult movie actress. She was never subtle-sexy like Jolie was in her movies. She was just crass.

      • Tammu says:

Yeah, I thought those pix of Jolie in nothing but a g-sting with a dog’s leash around her neck and electricians tape on her nipples were pretty subtle too!

Good thing she never posed topless with a horse nuzzling her breasts…

LOL for “subtly sexy”. That’s pretty funny.

      • sup says:

@Tammu I said “Jolie in her movies” no wonder why so many fans of Megan Fox can’t read. heh.

      • Tammu says:

Yes, but since you also mentioned Fox’s photoshoot as some sort of proof that she is totally on board with the stick out boobs and butt stuff, Jolie’s photo shoots are fair game too. Apples = Apples, right? But otherwise, ahem Gia.

Um. I think how it works is that when you’re the actor or actress and the director says “Stick out those boobs and bum, arch your back” you kind of have to do it. I also think that unless you’re a big enough star, you don’t have artistic control over your photoshoots. Especially if they tie into whatever film you’re promoting.

    • mssnarnd says:

If Michael Bay were a surgeon, he’d be amputating arms and legs in his mansion’s basement! MF may be “bad,” but she’s harmless.

Michael Bay, on the other hand, treats women like meat parts . . . and would love to have them stored in boxes (once again, in the basement of his mansion).

He is truly sick (and possibly evil). MF is just “not that smart.” Spend the time vilifying Michael Bay. And don’t pay to watch his movies!

      • Tapioca says:

Micheal Bay only treats women like meat because they allow him too, and the casting couch exists solely because youg actresses are only too willing to win parts with their legs in the air.

If they all decided as one that they would be judged solely on their acting abilities the whole sordid issue would disappear. Megan Fox CHOSE to wash that Ferrari in her skimpies, no one forced her to!

      • Betty says:

Yes, well we only have wars because all of the people in power CANNOT AGREE that world peace is a better goal.

        All it takes is one.

You do realize that Bay and anyone else who might be demanding auditions on the couch are doing something illegal, right? And you’re blaming the women? Unbelieveable.

  2. I.want.shoes says:

This woman is so irrelevant. She should spend less time trying to dispel rumours of botox and distorted quotes and more time taking acting classes.

  3. sup says:

oh please you’ve been giving nothing but vapid and dumb ass statements ever since your now-deceased sorry career begun! you would have done a much better job if in fact you shut up and looked pretty. i hate to say things like this but let’s face it she has nothing of intellectual value to share with the world, so why not keep your big mouth shut and appear much wiser than you are? it was only a matter of time before her big trap got her, and she kept dugging her grave deeper by continuing to fuck with her face and looks.

    • autumndaze says:

I agree with this direct and articulate comment.
I can’t imagine that she knew the definitions of the words “vapid” or “self-deprecating” before looking them up. (Or being fed them by her PR person)

    • Carolyn says:

This. I’m really fed up with celebs saying vapid/meangirl/offensive etc things (either themselves or via their PR team) and the public calls them out on it and then “my words were distorted” press releases being issued. We’re not dumb.

  4. toto says:

whats amazing in this article is that she has a very weird face ….(expressionless face) sad, sexy and dangerous photos with same face expression????

how could someone have such pretty featured and so not attractive ?

i think she is the opposite to Angelina who her features might be alien but so attractive together ..

i think Megan big fault is her excessive plastic surgery her features looks perfect/ piece but dysfunctional emotionless as whole she becomes Doll-Dull.

  5. sister says:

Love the headline “sexe, etes-vous dickmatized?”

This mag looks like a mess. The surgical gloves are a nice touch.

    • Cherry says:

Hahahaha I agree, I’d love to read that piece

    • Kloops says:

Priceless. I’m going to try to slip ‘dickmatized’ into every day conversation.

This woman is the very definition of vapid.

  6. Patrick Madden says:

Even if she didnt say it, I can hear her voicing it. She is an obvious narcissist. As in her personality.

  7. gee_gee says:

It has already been established that this woman is not the most well-spoken person in the entertainment business. I’m sure she is mostly harmless. But people need to stop quoting her. It’s a waste of time. Nothing good ever comes of it.

    • Jacqueline says:

Harmless only in Hollywood. If she was in an office with you, she’d be the first to:
      1) backstab you
      2) shoot down your idea and then take it infront of the boss as her own
      3) belittle everything you do or say
      4) laugh about everything concerning you
      5) try and may even succeed in turning people aways from you, that will take you maybe a year or two to regain those people
      6) sleep with the boss to get your promotion

I’ve noticed these vapid insecure narcissistic types, both male and female, are the worst co-workers. I kill them with kindness but I have noticed they will screw people left and right. They have nothing else to offer and their survival depends on screwing people over. And literally screwing the bosses as well, again male and female cus some bosses are homosexually inclined as well. The casting couch is for men, women and child stars.I would avoid Megan in real life. I have seen lots of people get laid off, fired or manipulated into doing favors or ganging up against anothe rperson cus of narcissists liek Megan.

Michael Bay is a misogynist and that is no secret in Hollywood. He is scared of the power women have and his insecurities with that power. His capricorn personality makes him cold as a shield. But ya big time misogynist. Megan a narcissist.

  8. only1shmoo says:

Yeah, I also noticed that there was no attempt on her part to clarify what she ‘really meant to say’. I don’t really know why she’s getting upset about being exposed as a narcissist when most people have it on good authority that she already is one; I thought she embraced her shallowness (along with a pocket mirror and the business card of a reputable cosmetic surgeon, you know, for maintenance).

    • only1shmoo says:

OK, i’m going to reply to my own post by admitting that the above comment is a tad, well, bitchy. I’ve gotten pretty fed up w/ M.F.’s ‘poor me’ attitude every time something dumb comes out of her mouth, and after this post I just went for my keyboard while going “Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!” in my head. Wondering if I should just blame this one on PMS. It applies throughout the month, right?

    • sup says:

i’m not pms’ing and i agreed with your comment… why not write what she really meant then? and the “reveal stupidity by speaking your true mind-then deny and say your words were misinterpreted/taken out of context” thing got tired a long time ago. other celebs done the same thing but not nearly as frequently as she. because you know every time she opened her mouth she spewed more stupid b.s. (like the time she made up the story about getting lap dances from a non-existent stripper, wtf kinda idiocy was that)

  9. Shiloh says:

they probably asked her something apropos to the comment first, i.e. “do you think your good looks hinder your career in that you only get pretty girl roles?” i doubt she just came out of nowhere and said “i wouldn’t trade places with an ugly girl.”

    • NerdMomma says:

I really agree with this, as with most celebrity quotes that we find so weird… I want to know what question she was answering!

  10. Seymour Butts says:

Does she ever close her mouth? lol Can she move her face? She’s about as sexy as cold margarine. And always vapid, always.

  11. almond says:

Oh, FFS! It may not have been a tactful thing to say but it doesn’t make it any less true. Don’t start brandishing the word vapid, narcissistic or shallow just like that.

Whoever would be willing to trade their looks with someone’s they deem unattractive please respond and I’ll politely tell you you’re full of it.

Your looks don’t have to be the be all and end all of your existence and they certainly shouldn’t, but they influence, to a degree, your self-esteem. And no one I know would ever consider changing their place with someone they think is ugly. PUH-lease.

She has verbal diarrhea and she managed to crap all over her career. I’m sure there are other things we can flail her over besides this little nugget of self-evident truth.

    • KitKat says:

No she’s not smart to acknowledge it, that’s the whole point. Let’s make one thing clear, if you are speaking about the genes your parents gave you, have nothing to do with your looks. It’s the luck of the draw, you didn’t earn it-period. When you are pretty (and pretty not beautiful was where MF started) and you find a great plastic surgeon it can be magic and for MF it worked out well. We all know she’s had work done, so to even attempt to pass this off as what you were born with is outright dishomest especially when you can compare the many faces of MF on this site. Do you think she’s the first star to be asked this stupid question? Of course not. The difference between MF and the rest of her counterparts is that they knew enough not to answer the question. Why? It seems “unattractive” people pay for movies too.

  12. i like her says:

i like her better than Kim Kardashian. And the comments against Michael Bay, that guy has so many bad things said about him. I do not find her vapid, I just find her real to the environment she is in. Megan Fox is still making more money than me so no matter what I say, it does not affect her financially.

  13. o_O says:

HAHAHA! OH! Somebody save this girl from HERSELF.

  14. Jover says:

i want shoes – she’s too narcissistic to attend acting classes. I’m surprised she’s being sought out for mag covers and the like; but i’m not at all familiar with the publication.

  15. Skinnybetch says:

I am dickmatized for sure 🙂

  16. Hm says:

I think her comments were honest. She knows her looks have made her career, and she’s not pretending to regret it. She’s not poised, tactful, or graceful, but she’s honest.

  17. taxi says:

Her body was photoshopped weirdly in the last pic. It looks like they erased part of her rib cage.

She’d both look & sound better if she kept her mouth closed.

  18. Anna says:

Oh please, she totally said it. What I find infinitely more interesting, however, is an aside in the article. The writer notes: “She’s an icy star. She doesn’t smile, doesn’t laugh, forbids anyone to look her in the eyes, can’t stand to be touched and requests thorough disinfection of anything she will have to touch [for the shoot].” Self-deprecating? More like haughty and paranoid. They also note that despite being an international star, she “doesn’t have a filmography that measures up to her fame. At least not yet.” Gotta love the French sometimes! (I’m a native speaker, if you want more of it translated because you find it interesting, feel free to contact me per email)

    • sup says:

She did, and she probably didn’t realize something was off until she saw comments on a site like this, maybe even this one, who knows? I’m pretty sure the French magazine got themselves a capable translator, and it’s dumb on her behalf (again) to blame them like that. I wish they would issue a statement about that she’s just too stupid to realize what she’s saying. Not so long ago, she was in Istanbul-Turkey for a advertisement shoot. At first people were excited to have her, then she dropped another one of her Megan-isms to reveal her trademark dumbness: “I thought Istanbul was a town” I don’t know about the educational system where she lives, but anybody who graduated at least high school would know that Istanbul has been a metropolis since the eastern roman empire. People didn’t hate her or get overly angry but they were disappointed to hear that. I don’t blame them, but I’ve come to face that this chick has always been as dumb as a box of rocks and has no issue posing like an adult star and acting like a shy nerd while she really is just a valley bimbo.

  19. Floridaseaturtle says:

I don’t like, or dislike her. She is very young, so she gets a pass with me, on things she says. But the pictures and clothing are just awful.
And I am sad for all the work she had on her face. She is starting to look like Lindsay Lohan’s sister to me.

  20. Jayna says:

Anyone with a lick of sense would know it came out in the translation wrong.

  21. Lisa says:

I don’t know why people are getting so upset about this. Translation or no, she still knows that her looks were a boon. How is it news to anyone that looks get you everywhere? She’s smart to acknowledge it.

  22. nikzilla37 says:

Who cares what she said. I’m in love with the photo of her crying. <3

  23. alyssa says:

Ugh, I think those photos are just tragic…

  24. jared says:

Angelina Jolie wannabe and she is kinda starting to look like indian actress Aishwarya Rai. Sorry but she is not as stunning as either of them.Well I don’t belive that she claims that she was distorted. She has a histroy for running her mouth like that. She and Rooney Mara should keep their mouths shut and be grateful that someone is giving them roles because niether of them are what I would call “talent”. I can Rooney Mara going down the path of Megan fox if she keeps dssing her formers jobs.

  25. madder says:

    boring looking pics
