Here are some photos from last night’s TV Critics Choice Awards (or Critics Choice TV Awards, what have you). They got a pretty good turnout and a nice mix of TV stars from smaller, critically acclaimed shows and stars from bigger, popular network shows. Homeland won Best TV Drama, and Claire Danes won Best Actress for her portrayal of a CIA agent who loses her mind. You can read more about the awards here. Christina Hendricks won Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for her work in Mad Men – and Christina was there, wearing this unfortunate black dress. Sigh. You know I love her. But she looks like an old-timey madam at an Old West brothel.
Julie Bowen in …unknown. My guess is Marchesa? Because it’s awful. That being said, I think Julie has put on a little weight and it looks really, really good on her.
Ty Burrell is so cute. I LOVE HIM. He won Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy.
Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta. If you’re going to go for a twee, old-school, vintage-y “party dress,” you might as well go for de la Renta. I don’t really hate the dress, although I don’t think the color is great on Zooey. She should do something different with her hair for formal red carpets too. Zooey & Amy Poehler shared the “Best Actress in a Comedy” award.
Julianne Moore in Jason Wu – honestly, Julianne rarely blows me away on a red carpet. But this isn’t actively bad or anything, and really… she looks great in general. She could easily pass for a woman 15 years younger. She won Best Actress for a TV Movie for Game Change.
Here’s Sarah Hyland in a cute little minidress. This was her first public appearance since her kidney transplant – it’s good to see her looking so healthy.
Max Greenfield is the best!!

I think the top is actually flattering for Christina. Maybe if the dress had been shorter/lost the see-through part on the bottom?

totally agree re the top. while the bottom isn’t great, she made need more length/volume on the bottom to balance the top. usually her girls are jam-packed or in such a low cut number that all you can do is look at her top. here her top is tasteful.

This is a ‘scrolldown fug’ if anything. The top part was respectable and I thought that it was that very respectability that was the issue for the writer, feeling as she does about CH. It does kind of morph into Stevie Nicks: Witchy-Poor Saloon Matron after that, but her privates are inside the dress, so I’ll take what I can get.
How long was SH’s surgery? I never saw her bloat, or anything. I got a new vaccuum yesterday and JB’s dress looks like something I can currently see in that clear waste receptacle at the front. Thank God she’s put on a few, I swear, for a while she was looking like a dessicated corn husk and her hair went all rat’s nest for a while. I don’t have a huge problem with ZD’s dress, but on her it just seems like a uniform, you know?

I like Zooey Deschanel well enough, and I really enjoy New Girl, but I wish they had just given the award to Amy Poehler. She has been absolutely magnificent on Parks and Rec for four years, and this past season especially. I mean, come on. The finale alone was just a master class in awesomeness. Who wasn’t moved when she fulfilled her dream of voting for herself? Who doesn’t root for Ben and Leslie? I hope she gets what she deserves this year. GIVE AMY ALL THE EMMYS. ALL OF THEM.
I think Christina Hendricks dress would have been a little bit better if it was a little bit shorter. Maybe at the knee?

I frequently wish that I found P&R better than ‘alright’, because there’s definitely a party going on and I can’t get in. Seriously, wouldn’t you defenestrate yourself if you had to spend five minutes with April Ludgate? And did Andy have a stroke? Really…
We’ll compromise: Amy Poehler can dye her hair a colour that isn’t ‘toxic shock’ and in return I’ll not compromise at all.

While the Christina Hendricks picture was loading from the top down, I was thinking it would be cute. It reminded me of Adele’s Grammy dresses. And the the skirt appeared and it killed my wardrobe buzz. I love her so much, but she wears some unfortunate looking dresses.

I think the whole point of Julies hideous dress was to trick the eye into thinking she gained weight. Just like that girl who played Ally Mcbeal did. Remember she used to wear layers and layers of ruffles so we would think she was close to a normal size.

I like it but she does tend to get the length a bit wrong on a lot of her looks. If this was just on the the knee or slightly below it would be great IMO.
Other looks were all pretty good except that Julie bowen gunmetal dustruffle. WTF.

I really like the top half of Christina’s dress, her bosoms aren’t making a great escape for once and it looks classy. Agree the bottom wrecks it though. Loooove Zooey D’s dress and think the colour is lovely on her. Those Marchesa b*&^hes need to be hung up in a nest of tulle and feathers for all of their crimes against fashion, will never understand why people wear their monstrosities.

Can I just say this? I cannot stand Christina in Mad Men, Joan does nothing for me as a character. I always thought she was the weakest link on the show, but yes, she is gorgeous and has a huge rack. So give dem boobies an award, but not her acting. January Jones shouldn’t take all the heat for being one dimensional, Christina Hendricks isn’t much better.
