Emma Stone in white Andrew Gn in Berlin: totally 80s or totally fine?

In retrospect, I probably could have been less harsh about Emma Stone’s goth-y getup in Paris two nights ago. But quite honestly, I was shocked by how different – in a bad way – she looked. She lost a lot of weight over the past year, and the blonde hair is making her look A) older, B) washed-out and C) strung-out. I know Emma-loonies always cry “BUT SHE’S A NATURAL BLONDE!” Not really. I mean, she might have been blonde when she was a kid, but judging from her roots, she’s more of a medium-brunette. And it shows – some women simply don’t have the skin tone to pull off blonde. I think Emma is one of them. Rachel McAdams is another. Nicole Kidman too. Three women who all look younger and prettier with darker hair, and three women who insist on going for too light hair shades. UGH.

Anyway, these are photos of Emma and Andrew Garfield in Berlin yesterday. They had an Amazing Spider-Man photo call (Emma in black) and a premiere (Emma in white). The black Martin Grant dress is pretty cute – it’s simple, it’s age-appropriate, it doesn’t feel like Emma is trying to remake herself into a 44-year-old vampire. As for the white Andrew Gn for the premiere… hideous. Dated. It looks so ‘80s! I swear, I’ve seen this dress in such 80s classics as Working Girl, Crocodile Dundee and Say Anything. Plus, white isn’t Emma’s color.

I guess I should start approaching Emma’s style the same way I approach Kristen Stewart’s. They’re close in age – Kristen turned 22 a few months ago, and Emma turns 24 in November. Both are girls on the rise, and their Hollywood ascent has been swift and, at times, brutal. Both are still learning about fashion and what looks good on them, and both are struggling with the idea that they have to be “red-carpet ready” and “looking professional” when both ladies have simpler, less fussy tastes. I just thought Emma gave a sh-t about fashion, and she found it fun – whereas it seems like Kristen really doesn’t care or find it fun. But really, they’re the same at this point… Kristen might even be coming out ahead, style-wise. My approach to K-Stew has become, “Well, she’s learning. Every red carpet is a lesson learned.” I need to start doing that with Emma.

I don’t have a problem with the white dress, but the shoes are awful. She looks beautiful. In the black, too.

I wanna know what’s up with their showmance…how long do they have to keep it up?

  2. Zelda says:

    23 years old?
    *cough*

    • I Choose Me says:

*sneeze* I thought it was just me who thought she looked quite a bit older than 23. 😀

      • missme says:

This. I don’t believe for a second shes on the younger side of 25. I’d guess more like 27

Not that I don’t like her or find her crazy charming onscreen. Her face just looks a bit “mature”

  3. Maguita says:

I am making photo assumptions here, but don’t Emma and Andrew look like they’ve had enough of each other already??

And I believe the weirdness in Emma’s face is caused by too-much-travel bloating.

  4. marie says:

The black is cute, and the white isn’t great, but it isn’t hideous either.

And I’m getting a Mister Rogers vibe from Andrew in the sport coat/sweater combo.. No, I don’t want to be your neighbor, the land of make-believe creeps me out..

    • ZigZagZoey says:

      Hee hee! Yup.

    • deehunny says:

Whatever, I think they look fantastic, even though he doesn’t photograph well. Kaiser– I get the “go back to ginger” thing but she’s actually a natural blonde… get over it

  5. Katie says:

The shoes are awful! They look like something from Payless before Payless had cute shoes. She can do so much better! A red pump could have been really cute. Or some other pop of color but not these discount Easter specials.

  6. Emma says:

I think she looks so gorgeous in both dresses. I think she looks so stunning that I can’t believe anyone actually thinks she looks bad.

  7. Bradley says:

Alexis Morell Carrington Dexter Rowan would totally wear it. You go girl.

  8. Paul Frehley says:

And this is why Emma Stone is better then Lindsay Lohan.

  9. lisa2 says:

I have seen a few pictures of them on the RC and I have seen a couple that show a lot of chemistry. I don’t like photo assumptions. I much prefer looking at video. Pictures are taken in moments and you miss a lot.

She is obviously really into him. And if you watch any of their interviews they do have chemistry. I was not into them, but they are cute together in interviews. You see the intimacy of a couple together off screen.

  10. Jayna says:

I know. It’s like Sofia Vegara always saying she’s a blonde. Maybe in her early career days she was blonde and dyed it, but she has been a brunette for years, just lighter than the dark brunette she dies it. Though, at 39, her hair is probably very dark now naturally.

  11. Maritza says:

That white dress is beautiful and the black dress is pretty nice too. She looks gorgeous in both.

  12. normades says:

I think they are a real couple because they’re so boring…dates with their moms etc…

  13. ramona says:

Andrew Garfield is SO tasty. I hate his sneakers, but I’ll forgive him because he’s a nice English boy.

  14. k says:

I’m very pro-brunette and -red. But I think her blonde hair is very flattering, even moreso than the red.

  15. k says:

    I hate:

    1. the bow

    2. the filigree jewelry

    • Chicagogurl17 says:

I hate the creamy satIn side panels. Contrasting side panels just need to go already! ( looking at you Stella McCartney )

  16. Shelly says:

She looks cute. Her hair looks to have a little more strawberry in it than it did the other day.

  17. Blue says:

I like her outfits. She looks tired and over all of it.

  18. T.C. says:

The white dress shows how much weight she has lost. Not looking good there Emma. You got to eat girl. She looks better in the black. Garfield looks like my grandpa in the plaid sports coat.

  19. jamie says:

I like her, but she’s overrated. Same with Andrew and I fear for this movie at the B.O :/

  20. Ford Prefect says:

For some reason he reminds me of Anthony Perkins.

  21. Jilliterate says:

Well, at least it’s not all white-blonde like it was the other day. The blondest parts seem limited to the highlights, and she’s got some caramel in there.

On the more positive side, Emma Stone is one of my favourite celebrities for makeup. Usually when a celebrity’s makeup gets mentioned here, it’s the same old winged kitten eye and neutral pink lip, which is nice but a little boring to me. Stone always looks a little more on-trend and does it with confidence. Cripes, I wish I could wear an orange lippie the way she does.

  22. I Choose Me says:

I actually rather like the white number. Not the shoes though. And I covet that gold filigree bracelet she’s wearing.

  23. TheOriginalKitten says:

Kaiser-those were the best examples of people who can’t pull off BLONDE blonde (meaning really light blonde): McAdams, Kidman and Emma Stone all look so much better with even a dirty blonde or ginger color. Brunette is a bit too harsh for Kidman though.
Emma Stone makes a perfect red-head and she has the sassy red-head personality (I mean unconventional, and in a good way). She SO should go back!

    • ZigZagZoey says:

Agree, especially Rachel McAdams. I think she is so beautiful and cute at the same time. But the blonde just looks awful on her. AWFUL. I don’t get it.

  24. I.want.shoes says:

    More like totally fug

  25. JessicaAZ says:

Has anyone considered that she is wearing her hair blond because her character in Spider Man is blond and she is, after all, doing promotion for the film???

  26. Crystal says:

She really needs to go back to red hair because even her style was a lot better. The only thing i’ve liked on her so far was the black jumpsuit at the London premiere.

    Andrew Garfield’s face is annoying.

  27. shaboo says:

do people have to be all over each other on red carpets to have chemistry?

Theres plenty of other photos (on the rc and off) were they look like they have fine chemistry and as someone else said videos are better

  28. UniqJaz says:

I don’t care for this Garfield kid.

  29. Maya says:

I don’t know…Maybe I’m just naive, but I feel like neither of them seem like the type to agree to have a fake romance just to promote a film. I think they always look really happy and loved up in candid photos.

  30. Aria says:

She reminds me when Lindsay Lohan started losing weight and looking cheap. She needs to get back to red hair and solid food. BOTH OF THEM

  31. Alexa says:

Holy Moly! SERIOUSLY SMOKING! Emma’s my new beauty muse. Wicked gorgeous and chic.

  32. Fashioneesta says:

This outfit is a complete HIT.

I adore the white dress! It does not look dated at all. The shoes are cute, and the orange lipstick is perfection. Of course, you need to be a tall, lanky young thing to pull it off. Curves wouldn’t look good in this dress.

As for her hair: it needs to be blonde b/c she is playing Gwen Stacy. So, I’m sure they want to keep her looking like her character until promotion is done.

  33. Vera says:

The black one is fine and I even like the white one in certain lights. In the first picture I thought it was really cute, but then the second of it…that paneling is not really good with cameras. I’m curious of how it looked in person. If it’d just been all white it would have been fine, or maybe all that other fabric (though the other fabric looks a bit cheap).

The way I see Emma and Kristen is that even if Kristen doesn’t appear to like fashion, she’s still been having to appear in public much longer than Emma. And Emma has had some really lovely appearances, but I think to a certain extent for both there is probably a stylist pushing some of their looks. That could also be said for Jennifer Lawrence.
