Victoria Beckham’s Comme des Garçons caped trench: absolutely fabulous?

CB and I were checking out Victoria Beckham’s oddly magnificent caped trench earlier today, and CB asked, “Burberry?” That was my assumption too – either Burberry or Victoria Beckham-copying-Burberry. But it’s neither – the trench is from Japanese label Comme des Garçons, by designer Junya Watanabe. Isn’t the trench rather magical and awesome? I like that the “cape” effect is removable too – check out the shoulder buttons. You can totally take that off, and what would you have then? A weirdly sleeveless trench dress? Which is kind of cool.

Victoria was photographed at LAX, heading to London. She was tweeting about her trip too, asking her Twitter followers what the weather was like in London, and what she should wear for the trip. I should follow Posh on Twitter – she’s a devout tweeter, and she puts up interesting photos and stuff. Posh is in London for the launch of the Spice Girls musical, Viva Forever, in London’s West End. Posh will allegedly be joining all of the Spice Girls – Geri Halliwell, Mel B, Emma Bunton and Mel C, and according to sources, there were some fears that Posh wouldn’t show: “There’s been rumours knocking about that Victoria wasn’t going to show – but she always made it a priority. She was never going to miss the launch and is looking forward to seeing the rest of the girls. The musical is a proud moment for them all. It will be emotional.” Guess who wrote the musical? Absolutely Fabulous’s creator and star Jennifer Saunders. Which… I mean, I would totally want to see that. SWEETIE DARLING LET ME IN SWEETIE DARLING LET ME IN.

This is a pretty cool trench! Interesting design. I don’t have any complain with her outfit in here. 🙂

  2. Chatcat says:

Well Batman The Dark Knight Rises is opening soon…maybe she is just getting into the spirit?

  3. some bitch says:

Dunno. I think it would look better on somebody who doesn’t look like they just emerged from Auschwitz. Her half-open, stunned facial expression (one of two facial expressions, the other being her miserable scowl) just seems to creep me out.

  4. Raven says:

It has possibilities, but doesn’t look like it fits well.

  5. bea says:

LOVE Comme des Garcons and love that dress/coat/cape!

I wish she would smile once in a while.

  6. Jenna says:

The HELL is the purpose of a freaking cape?! That being said, I love the color and actually think it would’ve been better as a sleeveless trench dress.

    • Genevieve says:

Well, think about it. How many high end trenches are totally sleeveless for warm weather? The detachable cape serves its purpose very well, and looks smart at the same time. Burberry is awesome about being stylish and totally functional, but I can’t recall a design quite like this Comme des Garcons version.

Since I’m in the States now, it’s not as easy to get great Burberry selection as it is back home. You’d be amazed at how difficult it is. I treasure my Ivybridge, Harbourne and Prorsum pieces.

  7. NYC_girl says:

I love it, but it’s ill-fitting across her chest. I’d want it a little larger so I could fit other clothing underneath it – looks like she’s wearing something sleeveless. Or is it a dress? She always looks so grim.

  8. Me says:

    Love it.

  9. e. says:

    I just adore it. Adore!

  10. Lem says:

I love that Posh is ALWAYS on the runway!

  11. sukienow says:

i have a black winter coat from the label: so beautiful

  12. Lisa says:

Um, aren’t her glory days over? I never thought I’d be reading about Victoria almost fifteen years after the Spice Girls.

    • Sheila says:

I think once David retires from soccer, you will see them slowly fade to black. Her career mainly consists of walking through an airport with a scowl wearing clothes like a clothehanger and his half-naked billboard days will come to an end. *yawn*, their “careers” are not exactly red-hot, they get more attention for Harper now than anything career-wise.

      • thinkaboutit says:

Huh? She has a career, she’s a well-respected fashion designer. Her collections have won raves and regularly sell out. Love her or loath her, she has a viable career, as does her superstar athlete husband.

Strange coat and not very practical for us real people – impossible to wear and have a shoulder bag with it but then she probably has handlers who carry her bags!!

When she grows up maybe she will learn how to smile. Strange woman.

    • Catherine Paris says:

She doesn’t smile for photos because she doesn’t like the way she looks. I think the coat is really great, I like something that is unique and not the same as everyone else and just use a handbag that doesn’t go over your shoulder. 🙂

  14. Eleonor says:

I don’t like the cape, but the trenchdress is really cool. Damn I love it.
    Don’t like the shoes.
BTW: that is a size zero (double zero?or -4) ass.

  15. Jackie O says:

her clothing choices are getting better and better as she ages.

if she gained 10 pounds, i would put her near the top of a best style list.

  16. Palefire says:

OMG Love it… Hope some one makes a cheapie version I could afford!

  17. cat1 says:

I was wondering where her bags are too so clearly someone out of the shot is holding her other gear (unless she checked everything and just has lipstick and ID in her pocket!). Really, CB is playing into what she wants. She basically reinvented herself and keeps up a role. Did she used to smile as a Spice Girl? What *would* be interesting would be to run a SG photo with these stories on her.

    • Genevieve says:

LOVE. Thought it was Burberry too, at first glance. I adore my Burberry trenches, but THAT is a standout. Pretty much love Vicky altogether, though I do with she would smile more.

  18. Gia says:

I believe the technical term is ‘fierce’.

  19. Reece says:

I am in love! with the coat, hate the booties.

  20. miriam says:

I actually love the outfit apart from the shoes. I think heeled boots would have worked better.

  21. Orange Cone says:

she really does treat the airport as her runway.

    • sup says:

she always walked like that when paps were around. it’s ridic but amusing at the same time.

  22. Dhavy says:

This is nice, I wish I lived in a place where I can wear something like this (I live in Miami). She actually doesn’t look that thin here. Does she really look that bad when she smiles?

  23. sup says:

same old same old… she needs to try different things once in a while…

  24. Mrs.Krabapple says:

The coat looks cheap, one of the false buttons looks like it’s falling off. Too many buttons, too many wrinkles, and it doesn’t sit well on her (looks crooked — intentional?).

  25. Seagulls says:

It is Troop Beverly Hills and it is fabulous.

  26. jes_sayin says:

Coming from someone who loves trench coats… this one’s a big miss. Just not flattering at all.

  27. Really? says:

The boots ruin the effect by basically cutting her feet off at the ankles, i would have liked to see her with a pair of beige leather strappies…and i don’t want her to smile and can’t stand to see her in pics where she does, because it looks forced and false. I like her pout, it’s her signature, like Lagerfeld and his glasses. Don’t change the pout, Posh, just change those booties.
