New stills have come out for the much anticipated holiday release film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. Pitt stars as a lead character who is born a little old baby and ages backward until he gradually becomes a child again. In the stills Pitt is looking incredibly fit, although that’s surely not his body as it looks like the torso of an adolescent with Brad Pitt’s face transformed into a realistic-looking old man.
I thought the movie was based on a recent book I read, “The Confessions of Max Tivoli,” published in 2004, but it’s not, it’s based on a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald called “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” which came out in 1922. Reading the plot description of Fitzgerald’s story on Wiki (extreme spoilers, so I’m not going to link it), it sounds like a more palatable story than Max Tivoli, which really bothered me with its ending but was a highly readable book that I pretty much enjoyed until the end.
Advance reviews for Benjamin Button are glowing and say it’s Oscar-worthy and is sure to win nominations and plenty of praise. Variety calls it “a richly satisfying serving of deep-dish Hollywood storytelling” while Emmanuel Levy says it’s “a big, massive, uniquely American tale, which combines bravura special effects with sharp writing, and splendid performances that are not buried or overwhelmed under the heavy weight of sophisticated and eye-grabbing CGI.”

Here’s the latest trailer:

Oh, I dunno…I’d watch almost anything with him in it. Nice romantic chick flick! (which I usually hate)

I want to see it.

That’s the worst film baby I’ve seen since Eraserhead. Cate Blanchett looks great with red hair.

@Baholicious
Don’t forget the ceiling baby from Trainspotting. Still gives me nightmares.

I love the premise. After I got over total writers envy at not having thought up the idea first I read Max Tivoli and was thoroughly underwhelmed. Like you CB so many aspects of that book bugged me. Then I heard about the Fitzgerald story and faith was restored.
Can’t wait to see this movie

As someone who LOVES “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” (and doesn’t necessarily like short stories to begin with), I am SO excited for this. I’m hoping it’ll have the depth, emotion, quirkiness and cleverness that Fitzgerald’s version had. (It’s no chick flick story, y’all, and not just weird for weirdness sake. Fitzgerald was inspired by a comment Mark Twain once made about the best things in life happened at the beginning and the worst at the end.)
Just by looking at the trailer, I can tell already that a few things were changed for the movie but understandably so. It’s going to be quirky, and some people will find it a little odd, but I have some high hopes for the movie and highly recommend the original short.

@Amy: Yes, that context was creepy for sure but the baby wasn’t grossly misshapen – and it cried normally which was definitely not the case in Eraserhead.

This looks amazing. Can’t wait to see it. Shame I’ll have to put up with Caaate Blan..chett though. Certain people are sick of the sight of her
I want that latex baby just so I can stroll the streets with it all snuggled up in a pram and watch peoples faces when they come to gush

Baho – saw Eraserhead about 10 years ago and that baby still troubles me.
Very excited about this, Pitt really seems to be making some very interesting choices over the last couple of years.

This sounds really interesting, Pitt usually bores me, but it’ll be interesting to see what he does with this.
Please say we’re not going to fall out over Cate though Xiao!

Mia…..”the lipster”
Mairead…….Lets just say I’ve got Cate fatigue, you would too if you lived where I do – Not to take away from her humongous acting chops and luminous beauty etc etc

Mia,it seems that we have 2 miniature cutie “lipsters” as both Shiloh and Viv appear to have their Mom’s lips.
I will definitely be seeing this movie, can’t wait.

It looks really good – and you know it’s going to be weird, because it’s David Fincher.
I love Cate with red hair… or blonde hair, or dark hair. I just love her. *swoon*

Some of the comments are juvenile. I for one and a fan, and will see the movie. I read the short story and fell in love with it. Brad has made some great and interesting film choices the last 4 years. Not only as an actor, but a producer as well. I have enjoyed everything lately. I also don’t get the criticism about the stash. It is for a film. Not for attention. I’m sure he can’t wait to cut it. This man still looks wonderful to me. I suggest the naysayers see the film before you trash talk it. NOT FAIR to bash what you don’t know.

Yay, new David Fincher film! I’ll see it. Plus it has Tilda Swinton in it.
As for Cate and Brad, how glad am I that they didn’t do The Fountain ultimately. Better film for having Rachel Weisz and Hugh Jackman in it.

I read the Greer book, Confessions of Max Tivoli and found it odd, but a really great love story in more ways than one. So I am actually disappointed that this movie is NOT based on that story. I was so confused though when I first saw the trailer a long time ago. I am also surprised that no one else seems to mention the similarities in reviews of the Greer book between his book and the Fitzgerald story or this movie and Max Tivoli. In any case I think it looks good, but it will be hard to not think of Max.
