Here are some photos of the young royals on Friday, first for the Queen’s heads-of-state reception at Buckingham Palace, and then at the Olympic Open Ceremony. As you can see, Duchess Kate wore the same outfit for both events. And why shouldn’t she? It was appropriate for both occasions. Kate wore a fitted silk-satin coatdress by Scottish designer Christopher Kane. Kate wears a lot of blue in general, but I feel like she’s been wearing shades of pale blue and ice blue a lot lately. Maybe that’s just my imagination, but she’s definitely developing more of an interest in paler, softer shades.
Last year, Christopher Kane was one of several designers criticizing Kate for her reliance on “High Street” fashion – Kane told WWD, “It’s a shame she doesn’t wear more designers. I don’t really like the High Street getting so much of the credit. I understand that there would be an array because you need to relate to so many people in the market, but she is a princess. If I were a princess, I’d be like, ‘Oh yeah, bring it on.’” Looks like she was listening?
Did you notice how many times the camera went to William and Kate during the Opening Ceremony? I swear, there were more cutaways to the two of them than the Queen. All of the royals looked pretty grumpy during the opening ceremony, but maybe they were just concentrating on the awfulness.

You have a sh*t news feed then. I only saw them three times – once during a montage and twice when the GB athletes paraded in. At least the broadcasters got it right this time – it’s about the ATHLETES and not the royals (except for the Queen of course)

I’ll reserve judgement on this outfit until I see a full length photo. At least it is 1000 times better than the blue Zara jeans that were about 10 times too small for her.

Those jeans were ridiculously tight. After seeing a back view, they look like a pair of jeggings. I appreciate she tried to blend in with Team GB, but she really should have done some slacks.

In my opinion it looks cheap and ugly and something a much older woman would wear. It’s a pity because she spends so much money on her clothes and yet her fashion is really hit and miss. At least with the few hits we know she can get it right sometimes, but it makes the misses all the more annoying.

Atleast the second pic is different from usual … I feel like I’ve seen her fixed smile from the first picture a thousand times more than I needed to – its got this fake plastic quality to it that freaks me out.

Aw that pic kind of makes me sad, the grimace smile isn’t reaching her eyes fully. Makes me think that the pressure is getting to her.

Princess Kate always looks good. But, I’m really happy you mentioned the awfulness because I was chastising myself for being overly critical. I thought the opening was so awful I cant explain the extent of the awfulness. I think the Brits should have stuck to the stuff they do so well and given us a royal spectacular, that’s the kind of stuff we go to the UK to see.

1. Sorry, thought Kate’s dress was beautiful. I think she always nails it for big public events.
2. I’m not sure what feed you were watching, but I received precious few shots of the royal family during the opening ceremonies. (And every time they showed the Queen she looked bored to tears)
3. I think NBC could dedicate one of its 985 channels covering the olympics to a royal/celebrity watch at the games. Take us everywhere one of the royals or a celebrity is watching and keep a camera on them for a picture in picture view the entire time. This would enhance my olympic watching experience greatly.

I see no pretty in this lady. She doesn’t look like a princess, she and Will look like a boring, middle aged couple. Seriously. How can people say that this lady is fresh and lovely and shit. I can’t see it. She’s not glamorous, her sense of style is crap, her make up is awful, sun-damage to the high heavens. That coat dress looks like what my mother wore in the seventies. Just plain awful.

Good golly, you people have high expectations. I’m no defender of the royals, but what do people want? Nobody will ever be another Diana. Diana had her flaws. She was accused of being frumpy for the first few years. It wasn’t until 1985 that people suddenly deemed her a fashion plate.

She is the future queen so the expectations have already been highly set. She is not a shop girl at Selfridges. She already spends tons on clothes so why not invest in a stylist and put the money to a more fresh looking style??

Diana was the future queen (queen consort?) before the divorce. It took her a few years to come to her now iconic style. Even when she had the expensive clothes, she wasn’t always perfectly turned out.

True, Diana was frumpy in her earlier years. However, there’s no denying that she was a natural beauty. The way she looked on her wedding day… Wow, what a peaches and cream complexion!!!. In my opinion, she was a true English rose.

What is wrong with William? The last few outings that he has made an appearance at has shown him to be generally in a negative, unhappy mood. I look at pictures of the Duchess and she seems happier when “working” perhaps it is William dragging his feet, and perhaps being a little lazy.

Duchess “Fake” is more like it!!! From head to toe, there’s nothing genuine about her (okay maybe her big feet are hers)!! Okay, let’s go down the list: fake hair (extensions, as virtually everyone has figured out), spray tan, veneers, ridiculously padded bras….

I keep thinking how nice she’d look if she cut her hair – at least 4 or 5 inches to a sharp straight shiny style (jaw length) and then consulted with a clothes stylist and completely updated her look with brighter colours and more trends. For casual looks she looks like a school girl and formal occasions she dresses like mother of the bride.
Kate; you have such potential. Use it!

Sorry but I simply don’t understand how “Kate” has become an international style icon. Everyone raves about how beautiful she is. Really? I think she’s a cute girl but not special. She’s thin. Period. And, she picks the same dress over and over, done by different designers. Yes, we all know she has a tiny waist but please.. and can we hold off on all the eye liner and mascara? Supposedly she does her own makeup. Maybe she should hire a makeup artist? Just saying.

i don’t know where you watched the opening ceremony but here in uk we did not get so many royal shots ,so i am very happy . the part i absolutely hated was the new age media love story , it just went on and on and on. over all i loved the ceremony especially queen’s entry.

I dont know if its my imagination or not, but I dont think Prince William likes kate being so cozy with Prince Harry. You can see in Williams eyes, a kind of clouded look, as if he is wary of something and concerned. I don’t see that he is upset, or angry, but that he notices something, and he is not sure if he likes or not , as if the hairs on his skin are standing up. Am I imagining things??

Her forehead doesn’t move. No warmth or genuine emotion from her smiles, even worse when the rest of her face is frozen.
I don’t think the “plumpness” of her cheeks are due to weight gain. As the very tight jeans proved the other day, she’s still extremely thin.
I think it’s fillers on the cheeks, combined with the botox on her forehead.
Her face looks much smoother nowadays than it did last year. Of course, it could be she’s getting a lot of other cosmetic treatments lately ie facials and micro-dermabrasion, but her face is almost pore-less and wrinkle-free (unlike last year when her skin was in terrible shape) and there’s no movement in her forehead.
Boring and matronly outfit, as usual. Doesn’t she already have 2 other shiny outfits similar to this?
Why not recycle those and wear them again, instead of buying a brand new designer outfit that looks similar to the other 2 and just as boring? What a waste of money. And her damn hair ruins everything. As always.

MAybe that’s why her face was puffy in Nottingham. She disappeared as per her norm for a few weeks prior, then appeared with the puffy face provoking a round of pregnancy speculation and now her face is ‘plump’ and smooth.

I think so. And I remember seeing her in the photos from Nottingham and being surprised at how her face suddenly got all rounded and plump, but the ‘weight’ was only in her face, her body was still very thin.
She’s always had rounded facial features, but it’s odd how her face seems to gain weight while her body stays the same.
If you look at the 4th photo after the write-up, her cheeks are way too plump for the rest of her face.
It’s not hard to imagine she’s getting something for her cheeks because her forehead in all of those photos never moves. It’s practically wrinkle-free and frozen, making her smiles look creepy because only her mouth is moving. IMO it’s clear she’s already started on the botox and I doubt that’s the only thing she’s getting done on her face, in addition to her weekly blow-outs at the salon.
