Leo DiCaprio’s makeover for ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’: handsome or not cute?

These are some newish photos of Leonardo DiCaprio filming in New York City over the weekend. Leo has joined with his favorite director once again, Martin Scorsese, for The Wolf of Wall Street. The film is about…well, apparently it’s based on the true story of Jordan Belfort (who is played by Leo) and his rise and fall on greedy, seedy Wall Street. Allegedly, the story has a lot of “sex atop piles of money” and “cocaine”.

I guess this is a period film too, judging by the dated, oversized suit Leo is wearing. Is he supposed to look like a kid wearing his dad’s suit? Because that’s what he looks like. I can’t even decide if Leo is wearing a wiglet, either. I don’t think that’s Leo’s natural hairline, but if it is a wiglet, they got a good one. I mean, John Travolta should really look into getting himself something like this. I also don’t know if Leo is wearing prosthetics on his face, or if his jawline is really that… mushy. While his face doesn’t really look bloated and carby to me, his neck and jaw definitely look weird.

So, would you hit it? I don’t think I would. But I haven’t wanted to “hit it” with Leo in years and years. I had a brief moment of wanting him again in The Departed, but for the most part I haven’t wanted him since Romeo + Juliet.

Would you like to know who else is in the movie? Because I was surprised to see this list: Matthew McConaughey (he plays Leo’s boss), Jonah Hill, Jean Dujardin, Kyle Chandler, Jon Favreau, and voice work by Gene Hackman. Can you believe that list?! I’m incredibly proud of Jonah Hill – I can’t believe that boy managed to get himself onto a Scorsese movie! With LEO! Good for Jonah.

  1. Jackie O says:

guys with baby faces rarely age well.

    • ********** says:

I agree 100%. I think that`s what`s weird about him. He is aging and he has a boy`s face. Maybe that`s why he has the beard whenever he is not filming. To hide the little boy face. Also I think they tried to make him look younger for the movie and all that makeup with the oversized suit just doesn`t work.

    • RocketMerry says:

That is what it is, a baby-face! Thanks, I was looking for a way to identify exactly why I wasn’t finding him hot, despite his very fetching suit: men ought to look like men.

    • emperorcupacke says:

      Sadly, so true.

    • Ranunculus says:

I never thought he was sexy or even interesting in any way. Mediocre actor at best – zzzzzzzzzzzz

      • Dragon says:

Mediocre actor? Have you seen him in “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape”? He was incredible, absolutely amazing.

      • FeverDream says:

Come on Dragon. He was like 15 in that movie.

Leo is an incredibly overrated actor.

I enjoyed him in The Departed and Inception, but that enjoyment had little to do with him and more to do with the writing. Could have been anybody.

What drives me crazy about him is his voice and delivery. He never sounds like an actor to me. Always himself.

      • Ranunculus says:

Sorry Dragon, he may be a Hollywood pretty (and that’s debatable as well) boy star, but just like Brad Pitt or Clooney he is just gives lazy uninspired performances, he doesn’t go places with his performances. He benefits from the big moneymaking machinery that fools everybody he is somebody in the acting profession, but he is not a character actor in any way.

      • Dragon says:

I don’t think he is pretty or even good looking, definitely not my type, but he is a good actor if he would decide to choose the right movies and roles. Nevertheless, in the movie “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” he was breathtaking. And that remains. I don’t remember having seen him in another movie?! 😀 I generally don’t watch many movies made in the US.

    • Anait says:

      ITA!

    • Liberty says:

      You got that right.

    • gg says:

He will always look like J. Edgar Hoover to me, forevermore.

  2. sara says:

His head just keeps getting bigger and bigger. And I mean physically, not his ego.

    • Iggles says:

Haha! He has that dreaded ‘face bloat’ that a lot of guys get when they grow older! (Tom Hanks, Matthew Broderick, Johnny Depp, etc)

    • Ford Prefect says:

He has a Ted Kennedy/Jabba the Hut face – it’s not that noticeable when they’re young, but when they hit mid-late thirties it’s really noticeable.

    • Psyren says:

LOL I was thinking the same thing. Never thought he was attractive anyway and lately he’s just been looking like a bloated gerbil and that hair isn’t helping.

  3. BB says:

bah no, but these pics are better than the pics I saw on Dlisted

    • mia girl says:

Definitely! The header pic on Dlisted was downright scary.

But even based on these photos, I still would not hit it. Before, it was his douchey personality that repelled, now it’s the whole package.

  4. Amelia says:

When I first saw the photos, I actually thought that he’s looking the best he has for a few months.
I think it’s the lack of a douche beard.
Oh, and I heard that the film’s set in the ’80s, hence the crappy suit and awful perm on one of the other cast members.

  5. booboocita says:

I’ve never thought he was particularly handsome or particularly talented. Truly, I don’t understand the interest, even when he works with Scorsese.

    • moptop says:

      This!! Don’t understand the interest.

    • Eve says:

What I don’t understand is why Martin Scorcese is always working with him — there are better choices for a leading role than DiCaprio.

      • Max says:

        What’s so difficult to understand?

He obviously thinks he is a good actor and enjoys working with him.

      • Mira says:

@Eve – I recovered my love for Leo after seeing The Departed but after that my love for him has departed. Agree about his partnership with Scorsese. I want MS to direct Joaquin Phoenix in one movie at least. I do however appreciate the movie roles Leo chooses. He has an eye for a solid script but he’s been the same in his last few films. I cannot distinguish him in any of his intense drama roles anymore. Imagine Joaquin in some of these movies. The man would be a beast. Unfortunately he does not have Leo’s eye or choice of picks for solid scripts. I’m sure The Master will bring him back in force. In fact I am very happy that he worked with PTA before he gets a chance to work with Scorsese.

      • Eve says:

        @ Mira:

I agree with you about DiCaprio pretty much repeating himself. And Phoenix working with Scorcese would be awesome indeed.

DiCaprio does seem to have an eye for good scripts (that or he has a f*cking great agent) — however, his choices, albeit sensible, seem contrived. It seems he only goes after “Oscar bait” roles.

As for Phoenix…simply the best actor in the world, in my opinion. Actually, I think he’s in a league of his own — absolutely flawless performances. But let’s face it: the man himself is somewhat difficult. It’s simpler to market someone like DiCaprio (who is willing to play the game) than someone like Joaquin Phoenix.

    • Marianne says:

I never been personally interested in him. And I don’t consider him to be one of my favourite actors…and yet I do find him really talented. And he’s in a lot of good movies. He’s just kind of blah to me. I don’t hate him, don’t love him.

As for Jonah Hill. God, I do hate him. I don’t think he’s remotely funny. The fact he was nominated for an Oscar is a big joke.

  6. Marta says:

he is looking worse and worse, but he is really talented.

  7. Eve says:

    Leonardo DiCaprio has aged terribly.

    • Genevieve says:

      Exactly.

Never wanted to hit it in the first place. Can’t imagine why I’d want to hit it with a different hair color.

Jackie O is right about the baby-faced thing. Would make me feel like one of those pedophile teachers. Remember Mary Kay Latourneau? Yup, that’s what I would feel like with the baby face guys, lol.

  8. Nessa says:

Not attractive. At all. All those years of being of douche have finally caught up with him.

  9. I.want.shoes says:

    I don’t think that’s a face prosthetic. He’s always been bloated.

  10. BB says:

I wonder how much are paid the models of Victoria Secret to stay with him, not way that they made it free, I’m not a model, I’m older and even for a lot of money I would kiss him…

  11. Mimi says:

I find Leo so boring. Every photo I see of him with his barbie girlfriends in a date or hanging out (with him mommy close behind of course) he just looks like such a snooze. Even the models tend to look bored. Maybe he just seems moody all the time cause he hates the paps.

    • Teka says:

No! He HATES the attention he gets of the paps. I know he is a celebrity, but he is human. Nobody likes to be chased, especially when you’re with your gf or just on vacation. He is “boring” because he is not 24/7 on the covers of magazines Screaming for attention, and I love him for this.

      • Mimi says:

Teka you sound so pressed and mad boo. Are you paid by Leo or something? Seems like you are on a roll today. It not that serious lol

      • Teka says:

@Mimi … No, not at all.

1 – People here like to attack Leo, but do not accept when someone says the opposite.

2 – I am not a fan of him since Titanic.

3 – I am a fan of his movies, and I have nothing to do with his love life.

      • Tapioca says:

Yes, guys who solely date swimwear models do so because they really “hate the attention”. What else is a trophy GF for if not for deflecting the media gaze?

        *snigger*

      • ********** says:

Yeah, except for the obvious photo ops. You know, biking around NYC or those photos from Europe last year. Looking at those photos I don`t really see someone who is always bothered by the paparazzi. It depends whether he is selling something through those photos…

    • Bluedog says:

I didn’t think Teka sounded “pressed or mad.” She was just disagreeing with you. Gee, is that not allowed?

      • Mimi says:

Maybe you should direct this comment to Teka not me.Please scroll down and read the rest of her comments towards the other posters here. Nothing wrong with disagreeing but if you are going off on people for not liking a certain celeb then yes, you are air pressed.

  12. Teka says:

People here are so clueless. Leo is one of the best actors of all time, face it! He IS talented, and he IS really hot. I don’t know why people like to knock around him. He looks young and fresh, and I can not wait to see his new masterpiece. I would, Leo, come to mamma.

    • Eve says:

No, people here aren’t clueless. They just happen to have a different opinion than yours. Learn the difference.

    • @Teka says:

      Face it! That’s YOUR opinion.
This ain’t the Leo Dicaprio Love Boat.
You find him talented, hot and among the greatest. Good
Others find him one note, risk averse and Oscar hungry as well as being a douche. Also Good.
      Everyone happy.

    • BB says:

In fact, people here represent the majority opinion as regards Dicaprio, read the opinions of numerous people on other forums and you realize it. I have never found him good looking, sexy (I always preferred River Phoenix:)) I don’t think he is the best actor of his generation (his always frowned eyebrows irritate me), I have the impression that his hardcore fangirls didn’t evolve since Titanic

      • booboocita says:

That’s it. His fangirls haven’t evolved since Titanic, and I have a feeling that what good will he’s acquired is largely because of Titanic. And I recently read that he invited Rob Pattinson to party with him in Puerto Rico, and if that’s true, and Pattinson accepts, there’ll be one more actor whose fans haven’t/won’t evolve from their early crushes. My, how the wheel begins to turn …

    • Bad Irene says:

In my opinion he is not hot, his face looks like uncooked pastry dough. So I shall remain clueless.

    • fabgrrl says:

I concur with Teka. Love him!

      • Andy says:

To say the majority of people hate Leo because of opinions on the internet is reaching. He doesn’t make $20-30 million dollars a pic because the world hates him. Don’t care one way or the other but that theory doesn’t make much sense.

      • French says:

Apparently, you’re not allowed to dislike him, that’s my impression, you can say what you want about Clooney, Brandgelina, Aniston and others but you can’t say you didn’t like Dicaprio. I don’t think he’s a godd actor and I saw Gilbert Grape, he overplayed according to me, his performance missed sensibility, sharpness, a kind of caricature, I did not notice it in Inception, I preferred Hardy, JGL and as regards Shutter Island, I found it was a good movie but I wondered why Scorcese had chosen Dicaprio, he does not spoil the movie but does not bring nothing either.

  13. Shitler says:

Movie sounds like a piece of crap

  14. carrie says:

he doesn’t look as sexy or entertaining as Patrick Bateman (my reference as yuppie from 80’s)and he looks like Joe Pesci here in my opinion

  15. iwannarock says:

    co*e bloat
    hair: bad color
    suit: oversize
    tie: horrendous

  16. Jess says:

He has a bad bone structure and was never going to age well. Zac Efron won’t either.

  17. Imelda says:

Always think of Mr Potato Head now when I see him – so squished looking.

  18. GoodCapon says:

    Jonah Hill? Ugh.

And I don’t know what it is exactly, but there’s something so wrong in that third picture… I think it’s his big forehead.

  19. Andy says:

I will give him or anyone else credit in H’Woood for aging naturally. If he got plastic surgery, people would attack him. People age-it happens to everyone. My face now has wrinkles and I have the middle-age bloat. Weight-gain happens to most people as they age. Its ridiculous when celebrities get made fun of for something that happens to all of us.

    • Turtle Dove says:

      +1

      Stop the presses… man ages.

      *rolls eyes*

    • Gayle says:

I think celebrities should really be expected to keep themselves in great shape even as they age. They have all the money and time in the world to do it.

This guy looks awful and has for years. I think he was last cute on Growing Pains or whatever sitcom he first starred in. I shudder to think of the Biebs in 15 yrs.

      • Andy says:

Yes, he is obese. All actors/actresses must be fit and in shape? God forbid someone not be stick thin. They should kick out all people who are overweight, age or don’t meet the criteria of beauty the public demands.

Orson Welles should have been ashamed of himself.

  20. dee says:

    wow not cute at all

  21. bns says:

He’s probably happy to look like this. Anything to get him closer to the Oscar.

  22. Aria says:

He has passed his prime time for sure.

  23. Turtle Dove says:

Definitely looks like hair and makeup tinkered with his hairline. It’s pulled back, and Leo’s hairline is stronger than this, so to speak.

He’s got a TON of contouring makeup on which makes the close ups look sort of strange, but I’m sure that it’ll look great on film.

The movie is based in the 80-90s, so of course the fashion is going to be tragic. (Much like the baggy sh*t designers threw down the runway in their fall collections)

  24. yolo says:

I think in pic#3, he kinda has a jack nicholson look about him – kinda crazy eyed.

  25. KellyinSeattle says:

He’ll never be handsome, with that 12 year old face, even when it gets wrinkled. His fans can call him cute, but he sure isn’t good looking to me; he was so cute in Family Ties, was that the one? But he was a boy. Also, what’s with the slicked back hair all the time….kewl , man, and his Harley is just around the back of the building…yeah, man

  26. I still think he’s hot, I prefer grown men over pretty boys (like he looked in Titanic). And he is definitely one of the greatest actors of his generation – practically every peformance of his is Oscar-worthy (still amazed that he doesn’t have one yet!) and he seems really devoted to the movies he makes.

So yeah, I’d hit it, and I’d hit it HARD 😀

  27. TG says:

Looks like a bobblehead coming out of an overly padded suit. Even for an 80’s movie they should make him look attractive.

  28. bea says:

He’s starting to look like Wayne Newton

  29. Mari says:

If a 50 shades of grey movie it’s gonna be made I really can see Leo as Christian…

  30. Anoni Mus says:

Leo is way too baby-faced for my taste so he really never did it for me, looks-wise (except for maybe in Blood Diamond. He was hot there). But I think he cleans up nicely and has an interesting face that will serve him well in more character-based roles. As long as he doesn’t start tinkering with the plastic surgery, I totally give him a pass on his looks.

He is mad talented though. I really enjoy the films he has done and think he’s a great actor, so I look forward to any films he is in.

  31. Alexandra says:

Leo is meh, but I would hit Jean Dujardin so hard!

    • Anna says:

+1. I support your motion. I would hit Jean Dujardin, then Matthew McConaughey and finally Kyle Chandler. I know, I’m dirty, but how reject a french cake, a texan popsicle and a californian coffee – LOL. Maybe all three at the same time

  32. Birdie says:

I think it benefits him that he is not as hot as he used to be. He always wanted to be a serious character-actor and when you are too pretty, people won’t take you that serious. I find a few comments here a bit mean, not everyone looks amazing while aging.

  33. sugarcoated turd says:

    He is divine, as always.

  34. B says:

I’d hit it. I’ll always hit it.

  35. F*ck you, I'm going to Guam! says:

By golly I think I’ve got it!
I think I know who he looks like!

    STEWIE!!
    Yes, THAT Stewie.
I can’t be the only one who sees it! LOOK AT HIM, then look at Stewie, then look at him again….see? SEE!?

OMG this is amazing 😀 Lewie
    (Leo+Stewie=Lewie).

  36. nancypants says:

    It’s definitely a period piece.

I think Leo is quite talented and has been since Gilbert Grape.

I think he was required to gain weight for this movie.

He does look baby-faced but middle-aged with the jowls and junk to go with it and he’s wearing a hair piece and for those who weren’t around WAY BACK THEN this is what a lot of suits then looked like.

I wouldn’t be surprised if 12 months from now, he’s all lean and hard and lookin’ good for some other movie.
    It’s his job.

Actresses shave their heads or starve half-to-death or pack on the pounds and people support them in their, “art”.

Leo and/or Tom Hanks alter their appearance with extra chunk or by starving or growing a lot of facial hair and it’s all, “Oh, hell! What happened to him? Is he on drugs??”

  37. Camille (The original) says:

I haven’t found him attractive since R&J either. He looks so fug here!

  38. Frayed_Edges says:

I wish he’d stop playing these crazy power-hungry types in movies – it feels like the same character over and over again. He’s good at it, sure, but … it’s just becoming craycray Leo rather than an actual character.

  39. Mandy says:

Leo has never done it for me. But, I think it’s because he and my brother have a lot of the same features…so, it would be kind of weird if I was attracted to him.

  40. apsutter says:

I swear, if he would just stop boozing and did some light work outs for even a month he would look so much better. He’s so bloated looking…it’s shows on his face and body that he doesn’t take care of himself. He did look pretty good in Blood Diamond because he wasn’t so bloated.

  41. Christina says:

I think Leo is extremely talented, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. As for how he looks , it is all wardrobe and makeup in this instance. I saw pictures from the set of WOWS , of him not in character, wearing a close fitting polo and jeans. He looks very fit actually. I am not sure if I am allowed to link to other blogs here, but is on JJ. The pictures are from this week.
