I think you’d be surprised by how many requests I get for more coverage of European royalty beyond the British royal family. That’s why I ended up covering those photos of Prince Guillaume and Countess Stephanie’s wedding, and that’s why I’ve been covering more and more about the Swedish royal family. Sweden’s heir is Crown Princess Victoria, who married her boyfriend of nine years, Daniel, in 2010. Victoria gave birth to her first child, “a very cute princess,” back in February of this year. So, the Swedish royal line is definitely going to be Victoria-based, which means that people will probably pay less attention to Victoria’s younger siblings, both of whom are extremely HOT. Prince Carl Philip is GORGE and many consider the youngest sibling, Princess Madeleine, to be “the hottest princess” around (she and Charlotte Casiraghi, who isn’t really a princess).
Well, bad news for those dudes and ladies who hoped to land Madeleine. She just got engaged to her boyfriend of two years! And the dude is an American!
Get ready for another royal wedding, as a transatlantic romance is about to bring an American into the Swedish royal family.
Princess Madeleine is set to marry U.S. financier Chris O’Neill, the country’s royal court announced Thursday. They have been dating for two years and got engaged earlier this month.
“He is my soulmate,” Madeleine, 30, said in an interview on the royal court’s website. “We are both extremely happy and delighted. It is a very special day for us.”
Madeleine, fourth in line to the throne, is the youngest child and second daughter of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.
“I appreciate Chris for his warmth and his humor,” she said. “He has a very big heart and he manages to make everyone in his presence feel good. Christopher is a very thoughtful and generous person.”
O’Neill, who has dual British-American citizenship, asked the king for permission to marry his daughter, which was granted.
“I had been thinking about proposing for a while, but I wanted to wait until the right moment,” he said in the court interview. “I have been sure all along that Madeleine was the one I wanted to marry.”
The wedding is expected to take place in Sweden next summer.
Since he is not a blood relative, O’Neill could never be king, although any children he has with Madeleine would be in line to the throne.
I think it’s kind of cool that she’s marrying an American, except that he’s not really…? Reuters says that O’Neill was born and raised in the UK, and he just has dual American citizenship. So, not really American. Madeleine was also engaged back in 2010, but had to call off that engagement when there were charges that the dude was fooling around on her (with a Norwegian handball player, I kid you not). The Swedish royal family has been battling scandals and controversies right and left, honestly, and Crown Princess Victoria is basically the only one who is completely scandal free at this point. Maybe Madeleine will get a nice whitewashing too. Oh, and now everyone is speculating as to when Carl Philip might marry his “topless model” girlfriend. Ugh!
By the way, Madeleine’s dude looks a lot like Scarlett Johansson’s ex-boyfriend Nate Naylor, right? He looks like the kind of dude who is into rugby and polo. He’ll fit right in.

Oh, and I disagree that the photos are awful. I think she looks lovely. With the blonde hair, she can look a bit brash and round-faced – like her older, less pretty sister. The dark hair suits her much better.

Personally, I prefare CrownPrincess Victoria, though I agree that Madeleine is prettier, she is also a spoiled cold brat. Victoria has a much warmer personality which makes her more beautiful to me.
Carl Philip is gorgeous but he is also very shy. I actually like his girlfriend. Sure, she did pose topless but that was when she was very young, years before she meet her prince, and I’m sure she regrets it.

For a while there, when she broke up with Jonas, she looked like she ran away to NY just to escape the media attention in Sweden. She’s barely in Sweden nowadays, and doesn’t do a lot of royal duties. If she intends to stay in NY, I wonder if she will give up her title or at least stop getting allowance from the government/taxpayers. The taxpayers have been funding her lifestyle for the last 2 years she’s been in NY.
She seems to be really spoiled. I remember reading that she wanted to get married before Victoria, but that wasn’t “allowed” so when Victoria got engaged, Madeleine announced her engagement afterwards.
Jonas already cheated on her before they got engaged. She knew about it, but they ‘worked’ on their relationship and then got engaged. The 2nd time he did it, there was no way she could take him back without being called a fool by the media and his cheating was truly exposed.
I hope she’s really happy with this guy. He’s not “OMG hot!” but he seems to be a decent person.
Anyway, with the exception of Victoria and Daniel and baby Estelle, I don’t ‘like’ anyone else in that family, especially the King with his cheating and other shenanigans that just paint him as straight up disgusting.

she doesn’t get a salary, she claimed so herself. She lives of her allowance from the state, not mommy and daddy. And she never would have gotten that job unless she was a princess. Madeleine doesn’t have a real job and her lifestyle is funded by the taxpayers.
She’s an HRH and part of the King’s Household. The family is funded by the taxpayers and Madeleine gets her share of that money. As long as the King is getting money from the State, the rest of the family gets it too, even if they don’t do anything to earn that money.
Royals have their own wealth, sure, but most of the assets aren’t liquid. Their wealth relies on palaces, art, and lands while the monies to pay for their lifestyles: clothes, cars, parties, and employees/staff come from the taxpayers.
The Swedish royal family isn’t that rich compared to the Luxembourg or Dutch royal families who actually have their own wealth and liquid assets worth billions of $$$.
Yeah, those stories about the Swedish king are disgusting. And Juan Carlos of Spain is just as bad, if not worse. Apparently, he tried it on with Princess Di but she turned him down. I know she always had lousy taste in men, but it seems she did have SOME standards!
I don’t know about Juan Carlos and Diana. Some reports say they had an affair, but some say the complete opposite.
The most disgusting thing about the King of Spain (aside from his current mistress) is that his own brother in-law, the wannabe “King” Constantine, helped Juan Carlos meet other women behind Queen Sofia’s back. Sofia and Constantine are siblings, so IMO it’s just so revolting that a brother will help fool his own sister.
But yeah, these royals have a lot of skeletons in the closet. Some royals from the 1800s kept diaries in which they detailed every little thing that happened in their lives including the sordid parties and extra-marital affairs.

of all the royals, i really love crown princess victoria. she seems really nice, really hardworking and has overcome many adversities but yet remain very dignified. amazingness.
i remember reading all those years ago about how she struggled with dyslexia, and how she was bullied at school. i remember thinking “who would bully a crown princess?!” at first i dreamed up things i would do to bullies if i’m a crown princess but apparently, victoria did not stoop so low. she said it’s nothing serious and just rose above it all and became the royal she is now. 🙂
and now she has her own family to cherish and love 🙂

She also had an eating disorder as a teenager. I’m not a royalist but I really do believe that Victoria is a good person. If we are going to keep them I much prefare if the king would step down and let her take over.

The Swedish princesses and prince are always interesting (although I don’t really care for the King) and beautiful. Victoria’s wedding dress is still my favorite royal wedding gown — she really looked like a future queen!
I don’t know anything about this guy but, IMO, he looks too try-hard and a bit smarmy. Kind of like “Okay now I’m gonna do my dignified prince look. Wait for it . . . . There it is! Damn I’m good.”
