Boxing promoter Don King impressed with George Bush’s skills

Don King knows boxing. As the promoter of most of the top level professional boxing matches in Las Vegas, King has witnessed some of the best in the business not only hit like a pro, but duck like one, too. When King saw the President’s reflexes in ducking that flying shoe, King undoubtedly saw dollar signs light up in front of his eyes.

The boxing guru was so impressed with Bush’s shoe evasion tactics over the weekend, that he gave a statement to TMZ saying, “Bush has unbelievable reflexes … he can stick and move like a boxer!”

King, who is currently in the middle of a huge charity event in Florida, even came up with a trademark rhyme — calling the duck-and-move, “Aggression but with protection.”

[From TMZ.com]

You know Don King is readying a presentation for January 21st to deliver to Bush to try to get him in the ring. He could hype it it as a big charity event like Michael Lohan did. Offering the opportunity to get in the ring with George Bush would raise millions… hell, it may even finance the recent bailouts. Nations would pool together to pony up the money to put someone in the ring with W. It would be epic.

Of course this will never happen. It’s just fun to consider the possibilities.

I agree those reflexes are superb. I still wish one of the shoes had hit him.

  2. Syko says:

Well, ya know, when ya hang out in them there honky tonks in Texas long enough, ya learn how to dodge a longneck.

I wish it’d hit him too.

I’m a little worried over the reflexes of the Secret Service, though.

  3. Chun Li says:

    Celebrity boxing!

    Bush vs. EVERYONE

  4. nycmom100.. says:

As moderate/left leaning independent here, I have to say I love W the man! I so would love to invite him to a dinner party. W the president is far from my fave. W the man, is getting more interesting by the moment.

  5. Abby says:

Um, I think some posters should have a little more respect for our country’s president.

  6. geronimo says:

Respect is earned. When he earns some, maybe he’ll get some. ‘Unbelievable reflexes’ – his only claim to fame after 8 years of government – is pretty damning.

  7. texasmom says:

Well, W. annoys me to death at a visceral and political level, but I have to say that I am glad he has such great reflexes. It would be bad for the reputation of the USA (like it isn’t bad already!)for him to whanged with a shoe in a middle-eastern country. So even though I’d kinda like to hit the man with a shoe myself, I’m relieved that he wasn’t hurt or humiliated. The Presidency is bigger than irritating ol’ Dubya.

  8. Abby says:

Well he was elected by the country for not one but two terms if that says anything. And I think people keep forgetting that he’s kept this country safe and we haven’t been attacked again since 9/11. I guess you conveniently forgot that.

  9. LeoLo says:

Oh im not touching this subject with a size ten shoe!

  10. Syko says:

I can’t believe there is actually someone in the world who thinks Bush has done a good job.

Abby, his “election” is highly disputed. Thousands of ballots were “lost”. The Florida Secretary of State refused to allow a recount. And the Supreme Court declared him president. He’s not my president, never has been. I’m not so sure that Kerry or Gore would have done a better job, but they could not have done worse.

I have no respect for this man. None whatsoever. He has totally destroyed this country. Fukc him.

  11. LeoLo says:

Florida is a very “messy” state as far as politics go isnt it?

chads and brothers and fixin stuff and what not.

All governments since the dawn of time have been a little shady.

Its up to the people to stay alert

  12. Syko says:

Part of the reason that there were a lot of problems in Florida in the 2000 election was that the governor at the time was Jeb Bush, who promised the state to his big brother.

The ballots WERE confusing, with lists of names on one side and the actual place to vote on the other, and the names were not in the same order. By this I mean that the left side might say 1. Bush 2. Gore, and then the places to color in your little oval would go 1. Gore 2. Bush.

And it’s hard for the people to stay alert when boxes of ballots are stolen in the middle of the night and shredded. In my county, with a population of about 750,000, 28,000 absentee ballots were destroyed. And we didn’t even make the national news, like some other counties did, with the hanging chads and what not.

It was a corrupt election. He’s been a corrupt president. No respect. Throw those shoes a little harder next time.

  13. LeoLo says:

Syko isnt it amazing that votes can vansih and no one says a word?

    Makes me sick!

  14. Mairead says:

Texasmom, would it have been less damning if he was whanged by a shoe in a far-eastern county? 😉

The 2000 election was a mess. It didn’t help that the two of them came across as roughly the same (the only thing I knew is that I definitely didn’t want Dubya to be elected as he basically said “eff the Kyoto Protocol”, which in turn said b0llocks to the rest of the globe.

I paid damn all attention in 2004 for a number of reasons, not least because there was not way that Bush wouldn’t be re-elected; there was a war on and the economy was wibbling. Almost no nation votes for a change in that situation.

Kerry seemed like a walking disaster, but I think Gore would have been an excellent president; he comes across as dull and elitist, but he does seem to really give care and thought to the bigger picture. Although Afghanistan would have happened (perhaps 6-12 months later and in a different manner, it still would have happened) Iraq most likely would not.

Now whether some other tinderbox would flare up is a different matter, but I really don’t believe that Islamic fundamentalists would have been handed the perfect recruitment excuse that Iraq has been.

Abby, perhaps the US shores have been spared another outside terrorist attack, but they’ve not stopped elsewhere (London, Madrid, Bali and foiled operations in Paris and Germany). But what about the far more real threats of violence and drug-warfare? Has he really reduced those?

But anyway, back on topic. Don King is a self-aggrandising twerp.

  15. daisy424 says:

Agree Syko, voter fraud seems to be in most states. It’s disgusting.

I was amused by the photo of Don King. That’s what my hair looks like when I’m in Florida humidity.

  16. LeoLo says:

Yeah, ALL states have an issue.

    I love Pensacola and Destin.

    Two of my favorite places!

  17. Christina says:

i honestly think bush was trying to do what he thought was right for this country… unfortunately, the cowboy attitude tends to backfire… in politics and otherwise… i think it’s time to give him a break and show him some respect for giving us 8 years nonetheless…

and i’m with texasmom… i’m glad he was able to dodge that shoe… it would have looked bad for the country as a whole…

  18. Annie says:

I agree those reflexes are superb. I still wish one of the shoes had hit him.

As someone who is a staunchstaunchstaunch democrat and what all my friends refer to as a “raging liberal who has a deepdeepdeep hatred for all policies Bush inflicted”

I have to actually disagree. I admit to preparing a potential move to Canada had McCain/Failin been elected, but the show of disrespect is unbelievable.

And it says something about the lack of courtesy and respect that is circulating in our world. I’m glad it didn’t hit him and I’m sad the shoe was even thrown in the first place.

Boo, refuse to show up to his events, disapprove like mad, but throwing a shoe? That’s just beyond all proper decorum.

  19. M.E. says:

What do you expect from the shoe thrower?
He was abducted in Sadar, one of the most violent cities in Iraq thanks to a war waged there THAT BELONGED IN AFGANISTAN.

Perhaps if people bomb your town, home, family, and murder and ruin your life you would throw a shoe at this bitch too.

    It was symbolic.

The war was wrong in all aspects.

Screw him! He even admitted AFTER the show incident that Al quida wasnt present in Irag BEFORE BUSH BOMBED THS SHIT OUT OF THEM.

    HELLO!

  20. lanette says:

i cannot stand bush and i never voted for him…but i was sorry to see what happened because frankly i wish him no harm but i respect the office…

I thank GOD that it was just shoes…

  21. Chun Li says:

    Abby “um,”

Don’t you dare tell anyone that they should show more respect to this ‘man’. Bush lied to us for 8 years about the most important things: the war, the economy, the “um,” election.

LOOK at how this country has faded. You must be younger than I am, because I remember a time when the USA was actually respected in the world.

So “um,” maybe you should use your brain instead of giving respect to people who have done nothing to deserve it.

  22. Chun Li says:

“I honestly think bush was trying to do what he thought was right for this country… unfortunately, the cowboy attitude tends to backfire… in politics and otherwise…”

Do you honestly believe this man had NO personal interest in playing president? ALL politicians do. “Cowboy?” HOW do you fall for this image crap??

I know I’m raging here, but I can tell already that people forgetting about all the bad things this guy has done. It’s like he hasn’t left office yet but nostalgia is already kicking in.

  23. Codzilla says:

Daisy: That’s what my hair looks like EVERY morning when I wake up. Kind of a running joke around the house.

  24. daisy424 says:

Codzilla, Do you get the comments; You’re so lucky to have thick curly hair? I just roll my eyes.

@Chun Li, I re-read Abby’s comment and no where did she say that people should show more respect.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Even you.
I’m pretty sure I’m older than you and Abby is right, we have not had another attack on US soil since 9/11.

@ME,Perhaps if people bomb your town, home, family, and murder and ruin your life you would throw a shoe at this bitch too. It was symbolic.

I agree it was a symbolic “gesture”, he got the press attention he was obviously seeking.

My Father in law’s home town in Germany was bombed during WW2 by the US. His Mother was killed, his family was scattered, havoc and fear ensued.
By refusing to join the Hitler youth, he was put in a German work camp. While trying to escape with his only relative at the time an uncle, his uncle was shot and killed while my father in law escaped and survived. It was allied soldiers that found him and saved his life. My father in law never once threw a shoe at the AF pilots who bombed his town or the President who ordered the bombing.
