I forgot that Lily Allen got knocked up just a few months after giving birth to her daughter Ethel Mary! But it’s true. Lily gave birth to Ethel Mary Cooper in November 2011, and now she’s given birth to a second daughter. Lily and her husband Sam Cooper named their baby girl Marnie Rose!
Lily Allen has a new reason to “Smile” — just-born daughter Marnie Rose Cooper! The 27-year-old British singer and husband Sam Cooper became second-time parents when Allen recently gave birth to a baby girl in London, her rep confirms to Us Weekly. Allen then acknowledged the good news herself on Twitter on Thursday Jan. 10, writing, “Quite overwhelmed by all the well wishing going on. THANKYOU everybody x x x”
The new mom hinted earlier this month on the social media site that she was due to give birth any day now. “Thought I was in labor but I just need to fart,” she joked on New Year’s Day. The next afternoon, Jan. 2, she added: “My husband is currently making me a Pantera mix CD to take to the birthing suite. #cute”
Two days later, however, she still hadn’t popped. “3rd curry this week,” she tweeted. (Spicy food is sometimes suggested to help induce labor naturally.) “Nothing. #cozywomb”
Allen and her husband of two years welcomed their first child, daughter Ethel Mary, on November 25, 2011. Less than a year later, the singer was pregnant again.
“It was a surprise but Lily and Sam are thrilled,” a source told the Daily Mirror, which first broke the news of the star’s second pregnancy. “The pair of them have loved every minute of parenthood so far and wanted to expand their brood quickly. So it’s great timing.”
I’m not sure how much of a “surprise” it was – I think Lily just had a bad run for a few years with some really tragic miscarriages, and once she was finally able to carry to term, she just didn’t want to stop. I’m glad she was able to carry two healthy babies to term, and congrats to Lily and Sam. I’m also glad she’s got two little girls – she seems like the kind of girl who loves having daughters.

There could have been several miscarriages but the most publicised one was a stillbirth.
Babies can be born from 24 weeks and live but tragically hers passed away – it was a baby that died, not a miscarriage.

For some reason every article i’ve ever read called that a miscarriage, when it was, as you note, a stillbirth. Not that it really matters, I guess, it’s awful no matter what you call it.

I know – I remember reading how upset she was by this. Miscarriage implies it was just a foetus that wasn’t developing properly so it just stopped (this happens all the time) but Lily’s was an actual baby who could have been born… 3 week old pregnancies that end in miscarriage are of course awful and heartbreaking but are nothing compared to the death of a baby that’s been growing inside you for 6 months and is ready to be born…
I remember her sister saying she looked at an ultrasound and saw the baby’s foot. It was a real human being not a cluster of cells

Yes, I remember that story…it was so tragic. Psychologically, there is a huge difference between miscarriage and stillbirth. This was not her second pregnancy

I agree, wouldn’t this in fact be her third child? Two living, one deceased?

Yes, there was a Channel 4 documentary following her and her sister’s store opening in which she announced that pregnancy, the cameras followed her while she was pregnant, then there was an interview she gave following the stillbirth. I’m not even sure if it was a stillbirth (where the baby is born deceased) or he passed away shortly after birth.
My heart broke for her. She said she was upset that the media called it a miscarriage because she had gone through labour, given birth and got to hold him. Devastating.
I was surprised she spoke on camera about it so soon afterwards but Lily has never shied away from letting her feelings be known.
So happy for her that she has two beautiful little girls and is enjoying motherhood so much.

I’m happy for her and her family. It saddened me to read of her miscarriages. I’m glad she’s been able to have the children she wanted.

Happy news! Lovely name. Her struggles to have children were so public and heartbreaking, how wonderful for her to have so much joy now.

I miss Lily Allen’s music, but I’m glad she’s happy and healthy. Miscarrying or a stillbirth must be one of the most devastating things you can go through- hope I don’t go through it. She really did have a rough period a few years back.

I wished she had a boy tho, it’s kind of silly but the one she had a stillbirth was a boy, then she had Ethel and I was thrilled for her, again with this second pregnancy. Hope she tries another one and it is a boy! Not that she can replace the one she lost, but I remember her being so excited about having one…little boys are so much fun too!

The names are beautiful. They are better than most.
The fact that she has two healthy babies should be the important factor. Not if the names are likeable or not.
