Is Andrew Garfield worried about Emma Stone’s extreme weight loss?

Many of us fell in love with Emma Stone several years ago when she began to pop up all over the place, turning in impressive performances in film after film. Emma’s breakthrough in Hollywood was as a redhead with what seemed to be a completely healthy and attainable “look”. She looked like she ate solid foods and she just seemed like the kind of girl who would down for nachos and beer. That’s how she existed in the cultural zeitgeist for a while because I think many of us didn’t want to acknowledge the change Emma made soon after. Suddenly, she seemed to remake herself into a super-slender blonde, always whipping around in skinny jeans and the latest haute couture. The bubbly redhead who stood apart from the crowd became just another cookie cutter, skinny Hollywood blonde. It was disappointing.

But is Andrew Garfield disappointed too? Andrew and Emma have been together for… what? Like two years or something. She was already beginning this changeover when they started up, but it’s gotten worse since she’s been with him. So does Andrew approve? Well, Star says he doesn’t.

While promoting Gangster Squad, Emma Stone has looked shockingly gaunt – and boyfriend Andrew Garfield, 29, is worried.

“Andrew is freaked out,” says a source. “He thinks that if she drops any more weight she’ll be skeletal.”

Body expert Alicia Hunter agrees: “Emma appears to have gone from about 116 lbs. to roughly 105 – dangerous for a 5’6” woman like her.”

Emma, 24, has acknowledged that she’s size-obsessed: “You won’t hear me saying I have no body issues… I do have that thing of, ‘Oh my God, I’m disgusting… I feel so fat.’”

[From Star Magazine, print edition]

Ugh. I wish… I wish… I wish that Emma would go back to red and put on 10 pounds and stop trying to look like literally 80% of the girls in Hollywood. But I also hope that Andrew is figuring out a way to walk the fine line between accepting his girlfriend for whatever choices she makes and encouraging her to make healthy decisions. Because she’s not fat and she never was.

I do believe she is a natural blonde. She is way too skinny, however. She was PERFECT in Easy A.

Another cookie-cutter frail looking blonde. *Sigh*, she had so much promise to be a true original in Hollywood. So much for that.

At 5’6” and 116lbs, she is only two lbs away from being ‘underweight’ according to the bmi calcs. She’s skinny, no way in hell she should consider herself anywhere near fat.

In Hollywood, even skinny people think they’re overweight.

And I believe that is what she used weigh. Now she has dropped another 10 lbs it looks like. Her legs are toothpicks.

No way does she look ‘scary skinny’ yet. I’m not saying she didn’t look great at a higher height, but I really hate the body shaming that happens when women are naturally (or, in Emma’s case, strive to become) thinner than the average Jane.

When I went to Denmark, most women were the size of Emma pre-diet, but I’d say a good number were the size she is now (if not smaller). They are all very active: walking everywhere, biking everywhere, etc, but they also watch what they eat.

Icons like Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe had 23″ (or smaller!) waists. The difference is clothing nowadays accentuates the boniness. Sigh.

Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe had small waists but looked very healthy. Emma looks frail. Her arms and legs look like match sticks. Check out Grace and Marilyn pictures. You can be thin healthy or unhealthy thin. She looks unhealthy.

I don’t think you can really compare the waists of actresses today to actresses of years ago. Grace and the like wore corsets, so they could have a higher weight and a small waist because they had a corset that would deform their ribcage to be smaller than it would have been naturally, thus giving the illusion of being being naturally tiny yet healthy and curvy.

For all we know without corset training they might have been as boxy in the waist as a lot of actresses are today and would have to lose a lot of body weight in order to achieve their tiny looking figures.

Wow. I knew the actresses (hell, all women did until the late 1960′s) wore those things, some to extreme, but I never really thought about what it meant. I wonder if some actresses had trouble conceiving/carrying a baby to term due to such corsets?

Regarding Emma Stone … I don’t see a thing wrong with her body. She was also the same size in “The Help.” People just need something to gossip about and it is “Star Magazine,” after all. I ‘do’ like her best as a redhead. She’s not a natural redhead? Man, you could have fooled me. Is it possible the blond hair (and it hasn’t been ‘that’ long since she’s been blond) are for movie roles?

She wasn’t eating nachos at 116 pounds. I hate these weight stories in which somebody was “healthy” at some former very low weight but is now “scary skinny” at a very very low weight.

Red is her color, she should go back to it. Blond makes her face look a little harsher. Or maybe that’s the cut, I don’t know. She doesn’t seem to have lost that much weight but it’s still noticeable and I don’t think it looks good. But hey, isn’t this what happens to a lot of young Hollywood girls at some point?

Usually I disagree with articles saying bla bla is thin but in this case I do agree that she is too thin. She looks like she does not eat much as compared to say Miley who is slim because she goes to the gym. Idk though, only she and people close to her would know.

I always thought she was a natural redhead because she wears it so well. Then I read an interview where she admitted she’s a natural blonde. She looks totally different as a blonde. I prefer her red shade. It really made her stand out. Maybe after she’s finished filming the Spiderman movies, she’ll switch back to red.

I think she’s too thin right now. It’s so sad to see beautiful, healthy actresses like Emma fall victim to Hollywood’s size zero obsession.

Ugh. She’s ruining everything that’s special about her. If it were possible to fix her voice I bet she’d do that, too. She’s a good actress, but I think it’s important that she have those special qualities about her. I loved the old Emma. This emma just fades into the background.

I know that she’s (ostensibly) a “natural” blonde but she looks SO much better as a redhead.

    As did Nicole Kidman.

As did Lohan. (I KNOW – lots of other things going on there, but still.)

Is it something about Hollywood that drives the red out of these women?

  19. Renee says:

Why is everyone angry at her for being a blonde? You do all realize that blonde is her natural hair colour?! There is this wide misconception that she’s a natural redhead and she’s not. She has lost a bit of weight (but not as much as I think the article is suggesting) It’s just when you have a small frame to start, even losing just few lbs is noticeable. (I’m like this too) But I’ve seen tons of photos of her over the years and she’s always been tiny. She has never been curvy girl…when you do a side by side comparisons of old photos, they’re not all that different

    • cr says:

Not angry with her for being a blond, and as already pointed out, it’s her natural color and she’s probably doing it for a role.
But, as also already pointed out, being a blond and being underweight makes her look like most of the HW actresses in her age group.
It’s sad, I’m hoping she doesn’t morph into a younger Kate Bosworth.

      • Kloops says:

This. I think it’s kind of irrelevant that she’s a “natural” blonde (I agree it’s highly unlikely she’s naturally this light as an adult). People act like being a natural blonde is the holy grail. I’m a natural blonde (brows, lashes, everything) and it really washes you out. Becuase she’s so fair and freckly, she looks considerably better with red hair. It makes her striking features far more stunning. As a super skinny blonde she looks very generic Hollywood. I hope she reverts back once she’s finished filming.

My guess is that she might had been light blond as a child – but if she had har naturale color today it would be kind of Taylor Swift.

There are different shades of blonde. I don’t think this shade is her natural color. She could be a dirty blonde or a strawberry blonde.

She reminds me of Kate Bosworth. Kate was really fit and athletic when she came to Hollywood after the success of “Blue Crush”. Then she became a “fashion darling” and got thinner and thinner. Emma has become very popular at places like Fashion Spot as well.

  22. lettylynton says:

I don’t care if blond is her natural color; she looks generic and awful with it. I’m a natural blond too, but with my blue eyes pale white skin, I’m much more striking with a darker shade.

    • emmie_a says:

Agree. And I highly doubt her natural color is bleach blonde. It does make her look totally generic and blah. And the anorexia isn’t doing anything for her looks either. She’s not one of those statuesque beautiful couture wearing models or actresses so I don’t know why she’s trying to morph into one. She’s a cute girl and should stick with that.

She’s only blond for the damn Spiderman movie and the Gwen Stacey role. Once that’s over she’ll go back to red I’m sure. It’s just too bad the studio won’t let her change in between movies.

I don’t know if Andrew is concerned but I am :( Emma’s been trying to become part of the so-called “elite” fashion girl pack for a while now and it doesn’t suit her. I know that the red wasn’t her natural color but I miss the sort of sassy, fun, fleshier, not-afraid-to-speak-her-mind “Suberbad” era Emma that went along with it! Now she’s just another Camilla Bell/Kate Bosworth front row type (albeit a significantly more talented one). Sad.

I didn’t notice just how much she’d changed until I saw her on Ellen a few months (?) ago. She was downright skeletal, and my boyfriend even commented on it before I said anything. He’s incredibly respectful of women and knows they come in all shapes and sizes (his previous girlfriend was much larger than me!) but he honestly thought she looked unwell. I don’t know why so many people are saying she’s always been “tiny”… yes, by real-world standards she was NEVER anything close to overweight. But she wasn’t underweight, either… and she is now. Her bones were poking out on Ellen.
