Sofia Vergara: ‘I am going to be working my whole life. I love making money!’

Sofia Vergara covers the new issue of Cosmopolitan, probably to promote some of her side projects, like her K-mart line of jewelry or her Pepsi endorsement or something. I know that there’s been an undercurrent of Sofia-backlash lately – mostly to do with her weird fiancé Nick Loeb, maybe? – but I still like her. And I thought her Cosmo interview was interesting – she talks about being a single mother and dating, and how she would never bring the guys to her house (with her son) before she got with Nick Loeb. She also says the great line, “But I am going to be working my whole life. I love making money.” I wish more women would say that!

On setting a wedding date with fiancé Nick Loeb:
“He was already married with a big wedding and I was already married with a big wedding, so we’re going to something but not right now. When he proposed, it was my birthday, and I’d flown more than 100 family and friends to Mexico for six days of partying. It took me forever to arrange the logistics! If I had known I was going to get engaged, I don’t do this stupid birthday.”

On rumors that she and Nick were about to become parents via a surrogate:
“Well, because I froze my eggs. I had to go to my doctor’s office a hundred million times to do injections. The [rumor] probably came from that. My doctor had told me ‘We have a small window.’ I said, ‘That’s so rude!’ I already have a kid, so I never thought I would need to do that. But I will have to use a surrogate, because I had thyroid cancer and lots of radiation. I don’t want to wait forever, but not yet, because I’m working like an animal.”

On whether she’s high-maintenance in bed:
“No one can be a sex kitten every day, and anyone who tells you that is lying. But I do wear negligees and Japanese silk robes. For a long time, I lived along with my son and only saw my boyfriends in a hotel. So at home, I slept in old tee shirts. I realized when I moved in with Nick that I couldn’t do that. Now, I only keep nice pajamas around, because whatever is there, I’m going to wear.”

On the exact moment she said to herself, I’ve made it!
“In my 20s, I was already known in the Latina market. When I moved to L.A., I used to go to this club. At the end of the night, everybody would come outside to get their cars. I would be next to Leonardo Dicaprio and Justin Timberlake and my car was always right out in front! Nobody knew who I was, but the valets knew because they were Latin. But I haven’t been at this level until now. I’m greedy. I want to take advantage of my 15 minutes.”

On how her style has evolved:
“I have learned that not everything looks good on me because of my boobs. Magazines will say, ‘She is wearing the same shape again.’ I’m like, yes! So what? My boobs are real. They’re a 32F. I can’t wear something backless, because what holds them up? Then the magazines would be saying, ‘What was she thinking with those sagging t-ts?’”

On a five-year plan:
“I’ve never had a plan for anything. I know I’m not going to get any more shows like Modern Family. If it ends in five years, it would be great to do movies and focus on things like my Kmart line. Maybe have a kid. But I am going to be working my whole life. I love making money. I really love it!”

I don’t understand why she feels like she can’t still wear old t-shirts to bed? I mean, sure, have some cute negligees and silk pajamas and everything, but sometimes you just want to put on your battered oversized t-shirt and curl up and sleep. I also cosign her “wearing the same kind of dress all the time” thing – she knows what flatters her body, and truly, she couldn’t wear many of the designs that are popular these days. So many designs are built for women with Claire Danes’ body, not Sofia’s.

I hear ya sister…I am going to be working my whole life too but it’s because I like Health insurance! Love her though!

  2. Debbie says:

Lord I hope her working isn’t in acting because I can no longer stomach her. She is the only actor or character I don’t like on modern family she is also the weakest talent wise and I’m including lily! Plus since season one when I liked her a lot I’ve noticed she seems arrogant and fake when outside of looks she can’t back it up.

    Ok end of rant.

  3. Anna says:

I love her more with every interview. She’s just so blunt!

  4. Ramona says:

I love her attitude. Go Sofia!

  5. RN says:

“Modern Family” is the only network show that I try to catch. I love that show and I love her in it. I find her public persona refreshing and amusing. She seems grounded in reality and I love what she said about making money.

  6. danielle says:

She is right about dressing with a larger chest – some people might envy it, but there is alot that you can’t wear or it will make you look chunky.

  7. kaligula says:

Don’t need a plan when you look like that, now do ya…. 😉 Not being catty~ I’m a big fan. She is a talented entertainer, and so likeable…. #blessed

  8. Onyx XV says:

Lawd, this chick says some silly sh*t!

  9. stephanie says:

she’s so beautiful. I saw pictures of her recently from before, when she was blonde, and I thought she looked so soft and pretty that way!

  10. Lindsey says:

Gotta love her attitude…make that money!

  11. lucy2 says:

I like her honesty, but the situation with her boyfriend does not sound very good.
Shallow note – I wish she’d go back to a thinner eyebrow. Other than that, she looks great.

    • Hakura says:

@lucy2 – That isn’t shallow. Her brows are way too thick for her face shape/forehead.

  12. MCraw says:

Man, do I agree about making money! My freelance work has slowed to a full-stop and I keep wistfully looking back on busy days when I was raking in the dough. And Sofia has waaaay more than me! So I don’t blame the girl. This is actually a great interview, I love her quotes and refreshing answers to criticisms.

  13. Rena says:

    She is honest. Luv her.

  14. Diana says:

I still love hre too. So true about the clothes, you know having a large chest isn’t always an advantage and if she knows what works for her, why try to fix what isn’t broken?

  15. F5 says:

Cartoon with exaggerated, annoying accent. She’ll be over like Langoria, can’t come soon enough.

  16. Dani says:

Couldn’t help but read the article in her accent. Love her!!

  17. hellohoware you says:

I’ve seen her at my Whole Foods here in Beverly Hills, and I’m here to tell you that she doesn’t wear makeup, and she looks 25 years old. She’s simply STUNNING in person. Quiet. Yeah, quiet!

    God, I love her.

I also don’t understand why she can’t wear Tshirts to bed w/her fiance? Wanting to & not shows a lack of ‘comfort’ with him in the relationship. Not a great sign for a ‘fiance’.

Good Lord, 32F… & I thought my mom’s were huge @DD’s (which she had reduced). Makes me very glad to have ‘small’ C’s. Any more than that would be too big for my frame, probably cause me back pain. (& C’s aren’t huge, but are big enough to be a ‘curvy’ shape, plus don’t limit what cuts of clothing you can pull off).

NOT that there’s anything wrong with being larger or smaller than a C, it’s just my preference (after being a B all my life up until this year, changing size suddenly).

It’s easy to say you enjoy working when your job pays you millions of dollars to look pretty! Many women are willing to quit their job when they get married and start a family because their jobs suck and have little promise of growth after having children. It would be great to see more women worldwide enjoy going to work and remain committed to their jobs after having children, but the reality is that not working because your husband makes enough to take care of the family is now seen as a privilege.
