Reese Witherspoon’s full arrest video now available: she seems pretty sober?

OK, the Georgia State Police have released more of the dash-cam videos of Reese Witherspoon’s arrest and OH MY GOD. I know various people have brought up this conspiracy theory before, but seriously… how do we really know that Reese was drunk? I don’t think she was. At one point, the arresting officer alludes to the idea that if she had just stayed in the car, he would have allowed her to drive the Ford Focus home. Then when Reese is talking to a different cop, she plays the pregnancy card again and it’s REALLY believable. Like, I now think she’s truly pregnant and she was just being a completely sober, balls-out bitch to a cop. There’s definitely more to this story.

Here’s a CBS video where – at the beginning – you can hear the police officer cautioning Reese the first time to not leave her vehicle and she politely tells him that she will stay in the car. Then as the officer is arresting Jim Toth, that’s when she leaves the car again and starts throwing the hissy fit about being an American citizen.

Here’s the video of Jim and Reese after they’ve both been arrested. At first the officer is talking to her about what she did wrong and Reese spits out “I DISAGREE.” But really this is good because of the conversation between Jim and Reese while the officer calls in to his station, I guess. Jim sounds completely over it. He’s trying to reason with her but she’s still bitching about how she’s an “American citizen”.

Here’s video of Reese telling a completely different cop that she’s “in early pregnancy.” And she plays point-counterpoint with this cop about whether or not a cop has to show her “picture ID” when he’s arresting her. She really doesn’t seem drunk at all. But she’s lying her ass off about what she said to the arresting officer too.

Here’s the full video of the arrest – I feel a wave of sympathy for the arresting officer. OMG.

A lot of you have been having a field day about the subtext of Reese’s “I’m an American Citizen” ranting. I think to dismiss it as “white privilege” is too simplistic, although as I said before, if Reese and Jim were African-American or Arab-American or Hispanic, this whole situation would have gone down a lot differently, and someone probably would have gotten tasered or shot. But I think most of it is just about Reese being a cute, bubbly (white) girl and a movie star and thinking she can get out of anything because of all of that combined.

Reese stepped out in LA yesterday wearing a City of Atlanta Police hat. Whatevs, Reese.

I really feel sorry for her husband. She throws him willingly under the bus to save her image. What a bitch.

    • Esti says:

I make no excuses for her behavior, but he’s still the one more at fault here. He got behind the wheel while he was drunk, that’s a lot more serious than being obnoxious with a police officer (which is also not okay, obviously).

      • bettyrose says:

But if she really was sober, why in the world did she let him get behind the wheel drunk? Neither of them look too good here.

      • Emily says:

No he’s not. If Reese was sober — and the cop thought she was sober enough to drive — she should have been the one driving. Instead she 1) let her husband drive drunk (and yes, in her situation, it is “let”) and then 2) yelled at, got in the way of, and generally impeded the cop trying to do his job of saving lives.

Reese is a co-conspirator here, and she’s the one who upped the ante. Jim Toth isn’t the one disrespecting the cop. He got caught, what he did was bad, and he acts like he knows it. Reese put herself physically in the way of a cop doing his rightful job. I will never understand why anyone sees that as anything but incredibly offensive.

    • Lemony says:

Yeah, that’s what I thought. He definitely should be disciplined for getting behind the wheel, but she made the situation so much worse AND she made it all about HER. What the hell?
And the hat is just desperate.

    • c'est la vie says:

Agreed. He got the DUI and is not resisting arrest and she decides to break the law too and resist arrest. No wonder her husband was upset with her. Though he definitely deserved the arrest and admits it.

She just made it 1000 times worse for him. Not that getting a DUI is bad enough, but it wouldn’t have been the spectacle it became. He even asks her about getting out of the car and she starts in on her rant about being an American citizen again.

I’d say if anyone should be tossed under the bus, it should be her. Her husband already got the punishment (and more) than he deserves.
Does the law not apply to Reese either, because if anyone else came at a cop like that – they’d be arrested too.

      And nice hat.

  2. The Original Original says:

In the “early pregnancy” clip you can tell she is drunk by the way she is talking. She is talking like a drunk person who is trying very hard to sound sober.

    • l says:

When she’s arguing with her husband in the back of the car, she sounds like I do when I’ve had a few to many beers.

      “honey common now. honey. honey”

I do think she sobers up a little by the time cop #2 shows up, but she’s clearly still drunk.

  3. lisa2 says:

If she was so supportive of the Atlanta Police she would have stayed in the car. The hat is just too much and the reason is clear.

I will say I have never been drunk in my life. I have seen drunk behavior. I saw most of the tapes and to me it just shows us who Reese is. No she was not falling over sloppy drunk. But this to me shows the real Reese. Her husband probably deals with this on a daily basis. She is no perfect and this shows another side to her. I think Ryan may be saying see it was not all me.

I guess Ryan has the older children with him while she is filming.

    • NP says:

Ryan has shared custody of Ava and Deacon.

      • YEP_ITS_HER says:

And he also gets to enjoy Reece’s money due to fat divorce settlement. No wonder dude never works.

      • Olivia says:

He supposedly cheated on her yet he got a fat divorce settlement? Either Reese is a huge dumb ass or he has some serious dirt on her.

    • NP says:

Get your FACTS and not the PR spin she threw across the sites straight. Phillippe NEVER took any of HER money. No child support, no alimony, no settlement. He received his half of property that he was entitled to per the law and mutual agreement. It is all in the public records!

  4. C. says:

The cap…..please, give me a break!!

  5. Kaye says:

This is truly the best performance of her career.

    • Turtle Dove says:

      lol

    • cheerfulg says:

lol to the power of 10 and beyond. Using a fake pregnancy as an excuse to get sympathy (?) for their irresponsible action is appalling. And thinking harder about this ruse–So Reese by claiming she was pregnant must be also insinuating that it is acceptable to drink while pregnant and ok to let her super drunk husband drive her home. While pregnant…Gross Girl.

    • Annie says:

The most entertained I’ve been watching footage with Reese Witherspoon. No lie.

  6. JM says:

What an entitled PITA! And the countdown to the divorce begins….

  7. Stace says:

Is it wrong that I find these videos kinda entertaining?

In the last video though, she seems pretty darn sober to me. She also seems to be much nicer to that cop (maybe trying to charm herself out of the predicament).

    • Jaime says:

Oh, she is so sickeningly sweet to that second officer. “I’m just like everybody else, honey.” Why aren’t more people willing to see through that fake, false friendliness? Did you notice how she put on more of a southern accent when she spoke with him. And she does sound very clear-minded here, if a little wobbly.

      • Becky1 says:

Yeah, I definitely noticed the increase in the Southern accent. She really seems fake. I think it’s very odd that she lied and said she was pregnant. She lied about what she said to the other officer, too.

      • Barhey says:

I worked in Washington D.C. last summer for a certain politician from a certain southern state.

This politician was definitely from the ‘old school’ – he liked his women tall, thin and extremely well dressed. And syrupy sweet.

And the second he got on the phone in the office the accent went on like a lightbulb. “Oh hulloooo surrrr. How are ya’ll doing?”

It was shockingly fake but being from the North it was the first time I realized that people use their cute southern accents to turn on the charm and some of them are far from authentic.

    • l says:

That feels like later in the incident (maybe 20 minutes later), so I think she sobered up some. But she still sounds drunk to me.

  8. Poink517 says:

If she were really and truly pregnant (therefore sober – hopefully!) she would have been driving instead of him. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

    • SW says:

Agreed.i think she had been drinking, but wasn’t drunk. Him too, but obviously he’d had more then he should have!

    • pwal says:

Or they could’ve had the other passenger drive.

This just seems all kinds of odd. The only way this could get odder is if the reason that Toth was the one driving was because he’s the only driver listed on the car rental contract and they wanted to adhere to the agreement.

      • NP says:

The 3rd person in vehicle was also drunk. Shannon Rotenberg. Her husband is producer Micheal Rotenberg which was not there.

  9. Olivia says:

Reese comes from a family of functioning alcoholics. Her brother was arrested 10 years ago for crawling into his neighbors bed and fondling her while he was intoxicated. Her parents problems (hording, bigamy, severe financial problems which led to their house being auctioned off etc) stem from both of them being heavy drinkers. You can tell Reese is intoxicated. The conversation in the car is so telling as to how their relationship really is. He sounds defeated.

  10. Mabs says:

OMG the police the cap. WTF? Is that supposed to smooth us? The police? Take off the frakkin’ hat Reese, you look ridiculous. What’s next, we gonna see her playing a cop in a movie. I truly can’t stomach these people. lol

    • aims says:

I think she’s trying to be funny. She’s hilarious isn’t she? eyeroll.

My dislike for her is growing at epic proportions.

    • colt13 says:

Yes, the cap is way too obvious.

  11. ali says:

Wow. Talk about milking a story for all its worth! Yikes!

    • pwal says:

      Really?

Because it seems to me when a certain actress revealed her appendage at an awards ceremony, people was talking about it about as long as we’re talking about this, although more vitriol was hurled at the former.

Reese behaved obnoxiously and that behavior co-signed Toth’s ridiculously bad decision to drunk drive.

  12. Swtmelody says:

She’s really not a sweet person as she’s appears to be. My mom met her once and told me she was very mean, rude and thinks she’s very privileged. She screamed at people who dared to look at her. She’s just was not nice. That was very disappointing to hear as. She was one of my favorite actresses. I was no longer a big fan after hearing that so this video of her acting out cause she was “drunk” doesn’t surprise me.

    • TG says:

Sounds like your mom saw what many of us didn’t believe about her. I have been a huge Reese fan and own a number of her movies, but in recent years her movies have been crap so I quit watching them. This entire arrest video is very telling of who the real Reese is and what some have been whispering for years. I am thinking her marriage to her husband is a business arrangement because if he is the low-key guy everyone say she is and that he isn’t impressed with celebrities than why the heck is he with her? Makes no sense. Though he comes off as very likable in the arrest video. I know DUI is bad and I despise people who do that but hopefully for him this really was a one-time thing. I don’t know how they are going to whitewash her image. I am glad the police released all the videos because it shows the true Reese. What an entitled brat she is. It is amazing how she fooled me for all these years thinking she is this intelligent woman who is raising her children right. I don’t believe any of it anymore.

      • NP says:

Witherspoon is a nightmare to everyone. Toth is no saint himself and has many issues. This is a business arrangement.
The arrangement was to clean up Toth’s image. Go figure!

    • boredbrit says:

I completely agree with you, my sister saw her at the premiere of Water for Elephants premiere and she said Reese couldn’t be more different to Robert Pattinson who was so kind and gracious to his fans.

      • Stace says:

My experience with Reese was that she seemed pretty normal. Then again, it was during her period of dating Jake Gyllenhaal, so she was on his movie set. Maybe she only acts entitled when she is “on her own turf” so to speak.

    • Emily says:

I never thought she appeared sweet — just an okay actress who was kind of annoying, better than many and worse than others. But when she slut-shamed Blake Lively, she showed her true colors.

  13. gekkca says:

I know Reese is supposed to be a pain in the ass, but am I the only one that feels bad that these tapes were released? Not to defend her, but I’m sure that we can all be pretty stupid when drinking. Wouldn’t the mug shot have been enough to humiliate her? I don’t know. It just seems wrong that the tapes should be floating around.

    • PHD Gossip says:

      Thank you, Reese’s publicist!

      • Turtle Dove says:

        PHD,

        haha

      • aims says:

No kidding. She’s a bratty, overly privileged actress. She sounds like a nightmare, and her husband sounded very reasonable considering the situation. Her behavior was totally unacceptable, and in my opinion, alcohol intensifies people’s personality.

I believe she’s a really nasty, spoiled, rude human being. I believe in karma, and I believe it’s now biting her in the butt.

      • YEP_ITS_HER says:

        Indeed. Lol

      • gekkca says:

Nope, not her publicist and not a fan of hers either. I get that she’s a whiny, entitled actress and plays off a sweet image that is fake. I was just making a point that it is kind of beating a dead horse to keep releasing video after video of it. I’m not excusing her behaviour, and especially not that behaviour of her husband. I just don’t get the need to keep repeating and repeating it. The whole story pretty much came out in the beginning, no?

      • Olivia says:

@gekka the story Reese told at the beginning was that she was scared and scared for her husband which implied that maybe the police were acting inappropriately. The release of the tape clearly showed that her statement was inaccurate. She was borderline hostile.

If Reese wanted this to go away, then I am not sure parading around with an Atlanta pd hat is the way to go. She just got herself another round of press in the tabloids with it, reminding people of the incident.

      • gekkca says:

@Olivia. I get it. I honestly didn’t watch the second one. Wearing the hat is definitely a doofus move for sure. I didn’t realize she contradicted herself as I didn’t watch it (don’t really care enough! lol). She contradicted herself enough of that when the story first broke. She needs to go away for a bit and stop making it worse.

      • Isa says:

I’m pretty dumb when I’m drunk, but it’s funny dumb, I don’t put myself in situations where I can get arrested and I don’t harrass police officers while they’re doing their job.

    • gogoGorilla says:

Nope. If she didn’t treat people like shit, maybe they wouldn’t return the favor.

I think the hat is meant as a big EFF YOU.

    • Sugar says:

hers isn’t the first or last police video to be released. Any celeb who gets arrested is under the same scrutiny no matter if it’s a cop cam or a recorded call that gets released. It is what it is.
I sure as hell don’t feel bad for this manufactured good girl.

    • Olivia says:

Reese sure didn’t have any sympathy for actresses who have had their PERSONAL naked photos released to the public when she made her holier than thou speech at the MTV movie awards. The fact of the matter is that Reese initially released a statement saying she was scared for her husband which made it sound like the police may have acted inappropriately. She was making excuses for her behavior. What her PR people should have done is just have her flat out apologize and not shift the blame. Her statement gave the Atlanta police dept a chance to counter her “scared” comments to show exactly how “not scared” she was.

      • StormsMama says:

        THIS.
seriously as my dad always says Shes not sorry just sorry she got caught. On tape.

        Again, Great point

      • aquarius64 says:

I think the baseball cap was her answer to the police releasing the tape.

      • Grace says:

There is this little law – Freedom of Information Act – which allows TMZ, you, me, to request these documents. The police department released the tapes at the request of some media outlet, probably TMZ.

    • Toot says:

No, I don’t feel bad. She was being a real brat and didn’t seem drunk just entitled.

    • eliza says:

I don’t know. The show Cops always had regular folk and their arrest dash cam shenanigans on blast for the whole world to see. I don’t feel sorry for her in the least. If people in general don’t want to be embarrassed, especially those in the public eye, then don’t act a fool.

    • wonderwoman21 says:

Really because I’ve never been that stupid while drunk. But then again I’m not rich, white, and famous so the officers would just throw me on the asphalt and knock my teeth in if I refused orders and sassed them.

      • SW says:

Yeah, I think that if Reese spoke that way to officers and wasn’t a rich, famous white girl this could have gone differently. Although, that police office seemed really chill and calm, so maybe not with that particular officer would things have gotten out of control…..

      • krat says:

@SW- Thank you for suggesting that cops are not in fact robots who always perform identically to all other cops! It’s rare to see someone make that point, and I really wish more people would stop and think about that.

      • krat says:

@SW- Thank you for suggesting that cops are not in fact robots who always perform identically to all other cops! It’s rare to see someone make that point, and I really wish more people would stop and think about that.

    • pwal says:

Not really, although I do object to first responders taking pictures of fatal accident scenes, emailing them to so-called friends, and the pictures go viral and become an implement to harass/devastate the accident victims’ survivors. That doesn’t serve anyone. But dash cam videos can protect both the cops and the person/people who encounter them.

In this case, this cop, who hasn’t done anything to seek out the publicity, could’ve been painted as some shiftless, redneck cop who was picking on some out of towners. Would CAA have taken that tack? Possibly. Hell, some posters here were painting this guy as a misogynist for telling Reese to sit her butt down. These video showed that these were the words of a frustrated officer who had a routine stop become an unnecessary kerfuffle, not a misogynist.

    • Annie says:

Tapes likes those are public record. How do you think they end up on America’s Dumbest Criminals, etc?

These tapes educate people. They show you what not to do. And that if you do it, famous or not, you will be embarrassed by your own actions. Hopefully that encourages people to be more responsible.

    • Thiajoka says:

I don’t know how these tapes were leaked but I do know that if a movie star went on a publicity tour to make herself appear reasonable and not take responsibility for her actions (she said she was drunk and that’s why she acted thus, which is just an excuse) then if I had video footage that proved otherwise, I’d find a way to leak it.

    • NP says:

      These are public record.

    • Ally8 says:

I agree this is a grotesque violation of privacy, like releasing 911 calls, too.

On the other hand, it cuts both ways. There are times when the police would prefer to not have their embrarassing/illegal behaviour shown, and then it’s good that the public has access to the tapes.

    • Emily says:

      Nope.

She’s thirty-seven years old, not seventeen. She got drunk (maybe) with her drunk-driving husband. Then she got in the way of a cop.

And no, we do not “all” act like this when we’re drunk. I’ve never seen anyone act like this when drunk. Disrespecting a cop? No.

  14. Po says:

The police cap is just a slap in the face.

  15. Annie says:

I do think she’s drunk. When they’re both in the back of the police car, they’re almost slurring their words. It’s very telling though, how he’s asking her to be quiet, and “not tonight, Reese.” It’s like she always has to demand things, argue her way out of situations, get her way, etc. Crazy how we got a glimpse into their dynamic. I don’t think they have a future together.

She’s not only condescending, entitled and rude, she’s incredibly manipulative too. “I’M PREGNANT!” What did she expect from that? Why does she feel so entitled to preferential treatment? You both did something you shouldn’t have. Deal with it.

Calling it white privilege is not too simplistic by the way. It is what it is. She knows what she can get away with, which makes this situation even worse. She was yelling at an officer! She knew she could do it. Even if you’re famous, race does play a role, especially if officers don’t know you. This officer didn’t know her. He let her speak like that to him because she’s a white woman. Imagine Rita Ora yelling to a police officer. Or Nicki Minaj. The arrest would’ve been more violent.

I don’t get why people defend her. She’s demanding preferential treatment because she feels superior to ALL of you.

    • lena80 says:

Thank you Annie…she definitely thinks she’s better than the average citizen. And if anyone thinks her being rich, white, and female aren’t playing a factor into her rant then they really have NO clue about social structure in this country. This isn’t a matter of the “race” card being pulled or victimization for that matter. The fact remains that when you are white AND rich, SOME will think that they are entitled to preferential treatment. The mere fact that she goes on and on about being American is a HUGE red flag that if you don’t LOOK like the archetype of the “All American Girl” like she does, then you should be treated poorly by the police.

    • Maggie says:

Well written and all so true.

    • Thiajoka says:

Two thumbs up! When you’re right, you’re right. Or, if she’d had a black husband or a black friend in the car with her it would have been a lot different for her.

      • lena80 says:

This is VERY true and I’ve seen that type of behavior first hand. I’m Black and my boyfriend is a big ole Irishman and he lives in area that is VERY well off and VERY white lol. I tell him all of the time that SOME people may treat HIM differently because he’s dating me and it’s been a huge eyeopener for him.

    • Ally8 says:

The goal should be for everyone to rise to the level of “white privilege”, not for everyone to sink to submitting meekly to abuse by authorities.

However, while I agree with her stand on her rights, the police officer was exercising reasonable authority and safety precautions here. Too often, citizens get tazered at the first sign of independent thought and reasonable fear in these situations.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbnoDkS36Dc

    • Scarlett says:

I agree with you completely. I think this incident and arrest unfortunately gave a lot of insight into the dynamic of their relationship. I don’t see them lasting down the road especially if her popularity starts to wane and she is not getting A-list roles.

    • Emily says:

It is not white privilege. White people in general do not think they can act this way and get away with it, and I and plenty of other white people I know have been treated extremely badly by cops when we were doing nothing wrong. It’s rich privilege.

      • lena80 says:

It is white privilege. You are talking about yourself and people you know and that is great BUT most minorities know not to even SAY anything to the police let alone get of their vehicle because over and over and over again minorities are tased, beat, or shot over the smallest of infractions…like what Reese did. Your personal interactions with cops and those of the people you know, do NOT negate that white privilege exists. Personal has no bearing on Historical and current

      • JennJ says:

        .

      • JennJ says:

Our actions are always informed by the sum of experiences. There is no way to isolate one factor and say that it is irrelevant.
Race, gender, age, socioeconomic status, attractiveness, kindness, etc. etc. influence how others treat us, and therefore how we expect be treated, and therefore how how behave.

      • Jenny says:

Well,I agree if we are saying that there is more at play than simply white privilege, such as privilege afforded by RW’s SES and gender (in many situations being a woman puts us in the “oppressed” category, but is not without it’s own privilege, as seen in this scenario).

      • Emily says:

I didn’t say white privilege doesn’t exist. It does. But it’s only one facet of this particular situation.

        1) The cop was a good cop here
        2) Reese is a rich, entitled brat, so she acted this way. The way in which she is entitled involves an intersection of her money and her whiteness — saying it’s just whiteness is oversimplifying to the point of making it untrue.
        3) Reese is a very small woman. If she were even a larger woman than she is, I’m thinking the cop might have acted differently.

White privilege is just not the one true answer to everything. We have a tendency in this country to be willfully blind to class privilege. That is something that helps the wealthy oligarchs stay in power, because it drives a wedge between people of all colors who do not have the privilege of wealth. And human beings also have a basic tendency to oversimplify. There are a lot of things going on here, and white privilege is only one part, interacting with others. (The main one being that Reese Witherspoon is a jerk.)

I’m also uncomfortable with all the posters saying that Reese absolutely would have been tasered etc. if she weren’t white. That pre-supposes that this cop is one of the bad ones, which is not fair to him. It also ignores other things going on, like the nice car they were driving, the neighborhood they were in, and the fact that Reese is a teeny little person the cop could likely crush with one hand.

  16. Azurea says:

I never noticed before what an annoying, whiny voice she has!

  17. lucky says:

Please please please please…. another nationally televised apology to justify the new video!! Everybody knows- in this world of cameras EVERYWHERE- something else is always going to come out. She thought it was done with the first video, then came the dash cam, then a SECOND dash cam? Perhaps a passer-by will have yet another video?

And can we get an interviewer who has a pair (of ovaries) to ask the hard questions? In the top three questions for me is, “Why, as a woman and a mother of 3, would you ever tell a police officer you were pregnant as an excuse to…” And that interviewer NEEDS to call her on her bs excuse, “everybody says crazy things.” So she thought it was ok for the police to think she was drunk and pregnant?

  18. PHD Gossip says:

She is such a royal entitled bitch. She will never be able to get over this.
he is a mensch. You can tell. Even drunk.

  19. Sugar says:

what’s with the hat? at first glance TO ME it has connotation to FU on someones fingernails-passive aggressive Reese-u soooo bad girl!

  20. AmyLynne says:

I love her jacket in the hat pictures and that’s about all I have to add 🙂

  21. Skipper says:

I really hope she was drunk, otherwise it would have been really strange of her to let her husband drive after drinking while she was perfectly sober. What if she is pregnant and she was drinking? Double scandal.

  22. siobhan says:

Lots of white people get tasered. It is generally considered safer than trying to restrain a combative person. She wasn’t tasered because it wasn’t necessary.

    • Darcy says:

Lots of people get tasered when it’s not strictly necessary as well.

    • YEP_ITS_HER says:

Statistics please!! Also would like to know the numbers comparative with non whites being tasered.

      • lena80 says:

A simple google search will show you…not trying to sound rude, but it’s there if you REALLY want to know.

  23. Dedrie says:

She did the perp walk.. got the hat.. winning..

  24. Mac says:

Women of any race are seldom Tasered due to the fact that they might be pregnant.

  25. Maggie says:

What’s with the whole ‘Im an American citizen’, It’s so LOL.

    • Thiajoka says:

I’ve been baffled by that, too. My conclusion with no real proof is that she’s playing off the recent Boston bombing in some way–as in, “How dare you, I’m an American, go find some brown Muslims to arrest!” Maybe? I don’t get it either.

      • lena80 says:

She’s the “All American” girl and therefore because of how she LOOKS she should not be bothered…the cops should be focused on those that do not fit the All American archetype. She’s rich and White and can’t fathom being arrested because that only happens to Americans that don’t LOOK American.

    • A says:

Am I the only one who hates the word “All American”? What does it mean? Oh right, white, blond, blue eyed American citizen. Like wtf?! So an American minority (blond/blue eyed) are “All American”? GTFOH
All American should mean Native American in that case.

    • Lita says:

There´s been a blind item going around for years about an “all american sweetheart” being a huge b*tch and totally racist. The popular guesses were always Julia Roberts and Reese, I´m sure Reese just accumulated a lot of votes on this one with her “I am an America” rant

  26. Susie (1 of 3) says:

Wearing the hat is a continuation of her disrepect and rude behavior. Appartently she is trying to make a joke of being arrested. How did she have so many of us fooled for so long?

This wasn’t a trip to an amusement park with souvenirs. She needs to take responsibility for her bad behavior and try to not look so smug.

  27. aims says:

Anyone else notice that as she’s talking to the police all of the sudden her southern accent gets thick? It’s like she’s trying to win points with the officer.

    • Poink517 says:

I noticed that too! Totally agree that she was trying to win points with the cops – “oh I’m just a down-home southern girl.” Blech.

  28. Olivia says:

Either Reese is a balls out bitch IRL or she is a hostile drunk. Anyway you spin it, she looks bad. Her husband, the one actually drunk and being arrested has a better attitude than Reese drunk or sober.

The fact that she is parading around wearing an Atlanta PD hat makes it seem like she really isn’t interested in wanting this situation to blow over.

    • FLORC says:

      Olivia
Reese has had an under the radar bad attitude for years! Her great PR and picking sugar coated scripts is able to sweep most of her dirty laundry under the rug. And a lot can be said with the company you keep. She was drinking with Chelsey Handler and Cameron Diaz that night. They’re of course well known for being bitchy-gossipy lushes.

That she had her inhibitions down and acted this way backs up what her ex Ryan said and no one believed. That the break up wasn’t all him and she was hard to live with.

  29. Talie says:

The second police officer that talked to her was totally starstruck! No wonder celebrities get away with so much… if he was in charge, she would’ve walked.

    • Mac says:

That’s the old Good Cop / Bad Cop Routine.

Do they not still teach these things in 10th grade Civics Class?

  30. Loira says:

OMG her voice when she is sweettalking the officer!!! LOL
And she tried to paint the first officer in a bad light when talking to theother one. Maybe she did forget there are cameras everywhere. So entertaining. Reese is such an entitled fool.

  31. lori says:

The rumours for her behaviour have been out there for years. Along with rumours of how she tried to blackball Abbie Cornish after the her and Ryan Phillipee were together and how she (along with Jim Toth) spread more lies about Jake Gyllenhaal being gay after she split with him. She is a manipulating harpie….and now that there is video of it, maybe people will start to believe it.

    • NP says:

      Completely true!

    • Gretta says:

They spread rumors about Jake G? Seriously?? OMG, how despicable is that? They are disgusting.

Trash, both of them. They deserve each other.

  32. abbizmal says:

Oh, she’s shitfaced alright. She would have stayed in the car if she were sober and not acting like a complete ass. If she were sober, why was he driving? She’s almost as good at keeping things under cover as Tiger. The fact she is friends with Chelsey totally confirms this. But still, hahahahahahahahaha

    • Annie says:

I’m glad people are seeing her true colors now. I love it when holier than thou celebrities boast about certain things about them over and over, and then we find irrefutable evidence of what they are really like, and it’s usually the complete opposite of what they preached.
Like how Kristen Stewart was always dragging other actresses for being ~dishonest, not real, and liars and fake~, and then bam, caught cheating with her married boss in broad daylight. How are they going to handle interviews now? Who will they judge now? Reese chastised young Hollywood for being slutty, and her whole: “it’s possible to be Good Girl and succeed, you stupid effing whores! He he!” And look at her. Such a good belligerent drunk, letting her husband operate a motor vehicle while very intoxicated, angry at the law for protecting innocent people on the road, how DARE you little police officer, don’t you know my name? You are harrassing me as an American white legal citizen with money! I did nothing wrong! You are about to find out who I am and what I can do to you.

      • Olivia says:

Or like Robert Pattinson who said over and over again that cheating is awful and bad yet he he pursued a taken girl and proceeded to have a relationship with her while she was taken AND then when the same girl cheated on him, he took her back. Obviously when he talks about how wrong cheating is, he is talking about everyone else.

      • Apples says:

Olivia, except they’re not together… They worked closely together for years and became close friends. Post scandal- she was getting death threats and nearly screwed up their movie promotion. He “got back together” to save her ass, everyone’s ass involved in that movie, and everyone’s bottom line $$$.

      • Olivia says:

@apples they aren’t together? They look as together as they did for many of the other twilight promo, once he got her away from her boyfriend. Like I said, his comments about cheating are null and void since he was or as you say appears to be a willing participant. Tell me, twilight is finished, the DVD is out, why is he holding her hand and spending so much time with her? If he is faking it still, then he is a fraud and a liar. Basically his fans can’t believe what he says if he is “portending” to be with her, a cheater.

  33. kibbles says:

She didn’t seem that drunk to me. Maybe a bit tipsy, but still sober enough to know what she was doing and to follow the officer’s orders. It will be interesting to find out if she is truly pregnant or if she was just fibbing thinking that excuse would get her off the hook. The police cap she is wearing is too much. She looks desperate to win back the public’s trust as Hollywood’s good girl. The jig is up.

    • Thiajoka says:

She’s not pregnant–she already admitted to that on some morning show interview. But I agree with you that she doesn’t really sound drunk to me. Even from the first tape I didn’t think so.

  34. Relli says:

    Hahahahahahahahahahanahahahahahahahahahahahha I told you!
    – the sounds coming from Ryan Phillippe’s home

  35. Lemony says:

When are we gonna find out who their passenger in the backseat? Any info yet?

  36. A says:

You forgot this video where she says she is NOT drunk!http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2319497/Reese-Witherspoons-husband-Jim-Toth-struggles-balance-failing-sobriety-test-MORE-video-footage-emerges-arrest.html

She is alone in the car talking to herself and it’s near the end of the video and she says she is not drunk at all.

  37. lisa2 says:

LOL at the people that feel sad for Reese because these tapes are public. As someone up thread pointed out Shows like Cops and Funniest Video and other show people’s personal mishaps all the time. And I don’t recall anyone screaming stop it is unfair.

I’m reminded of her movie with Vince Vaughn and I remember her saying some unkind things about him, and in effect he didn’t do promotion with her. At the time I was wondering what that was about. Well now I know. Thanks Reese for putting it all in perspective.

I mean in recent years she has gotten some backlash..

  38. Anon says:

My humble opinion. Reese came out smelling like roses. Well done Reese and Jim. Ryan Phillippe still has full access to his kids with Reese even though he cheated on her. Not like Halle Berry trying to get full custody of her child with Gabriel Aubry by any means.

    • Olivia says:

Reese and Ryan both live in LA while Halle wants to move her child to france. Big difference. Ryan may have cheated on Reese but he appears to be a very good father.

    • NP says:

And IF you knew the FACTS and TRUTH, Phillippe did not cheat on Witherspoon. They were long separated, emotionally and physically, just like Witherspoon’s parents before he and Cornish. That whole fiasco was PR generated and everyone bought into the victim, poor sweet girl thing!

    • WM says:

Reese doesn’t have the legal authority to keep her children away from their father, even if he did cheat on her. And based on what I saw here of her personality, she would have if she could have. Talk about a manipulative, entitled B!TCH….

      • Anon says:

Neither did Halle Berry but after her current boyfriend beat Gabriel Aubry up she tried to paint Aubry as the bad guy so she could get full custody and that wasn’t the first time she had tried. She had spent millions trying to get full custody and Aubry blocked her from taken their child to France. But after the camera angles on her property were altered and the public backlash against her built she changed her tune and they settled the dispute out of court.

    • Emily says:

Deflect, deflect, deflect. Oh let’s talk about another celebrity and how bad *she* is and pretend Reese is still so good because she is not precisely the same as that celebrity! Reese may have disrespected the law, but at least she’s not doing X (X being something that is perfectly legal, whether we approve of it or not.)

Reese came out smelling like roses that have been moldering in the swamp for three weeks.

      • Jenny says:

Lol @Emily, I was thinking the same. I thought people were getting their threads mixed up because a few comments seemed to have so little to do with the article.

I think Reese came out of this smelling more like the fertilizer than the roses.

  39. Tina says:

If this was any other race, they would have used force. Did you notice that both officers asked her if she had anything in her pocket and took her word for it they did not do a pat down. She still got preferential treatment. Smh

  40. Lemon says:

She thinks her shit don’t stink. The ball cap is the last straw. So smug and so entitled.

  41. Jbird says:

I tend to believe she was boozed up, simply because the one and only time I’ve ever been in the back of a cop car (when i was 15), I too tried to use the “I have to pee” line!

  42. mimi says:

    You people are so judgmental.

Seriously, they both seem scared and very tense from the entire situation.

She looks like someone who wants to defend her man and is trying to get him out of an awful situation.

People react in different ways when they are under difficult circumstances.

    • NP says:

Really? Come on! They both threw each other under the bus! Please!

    • lisa2 says:

What part shows them scared.. I missed it..

    • lisa2 says:

What part shows them scared.. I missed it..

She was care free enough to make up a pregnancy story and carry it all the way to the station. Again please tell where I can see the she was so scared part.

    • Mac says:

My opinion of Reese has gone up a notch.

Could have walked away unscathed but chose instead to try to help her husband.

I can’t defend the wisdom of her choice but I understand why she did it.

      • Olivia says:

She helped her husband by getting this incident splashed all over the news.in fact, that is exactly what e said to her in the backseat. He didn’t seem particularly thankful with her tirade judging by his tone. In fact, since she chose to insert herself into the situation, his drinking and lifestyle are now tabloid news.

      • Lemony says:

What sort of “help” did she provide?
She has no right to interfere with police officers trying to do their job.

      • Emily says:

Does your opinion of women always go up a notch when they try to “help” their husbands with a crime?

      • Jenny says:

Help her husband how? By mouthing off to a cop, disobeying direct orders, and getting herself arrested? That doesn’t seem like a big help to me. A grown woman should know better; if she had qualms with what was going down she needed to talk to the officer on his terms and not force the issue.

    • PleaseICU says:

She had no business getting him out of that awful situation. Which wasn’t an “awful” situation really but a dangerous and criminal situation born entirely of Toth’s own actions.

He wasn’t being unfairly harassed or pulled out of his car and handcuffed for not signaling before changing lanes.

He drove drunk. He was apparently driving down the wrong side of the road at one point. They were just lucky a cop was there to stop Toth before the guy hurt everyone in his own car or someone else unfortunate enough to be on the same road as his drunk driving behind.

The cop was trying to do his job, assess the situation, and Toth’s sobriety. Reese decided she didn’t want him to do his job and figured the best thing to do was interfere and make the cop’s job just that much more difficult.

Then she got herself in trouble too, made her husband’s alcohol intake front page news, and created a PR shitstorm for herself that she’s still trying to clean up.

    • Emily says:

It was a scary situation for the other people on the road.

She. Disrespected. A. Cop. Doing. His. Job. She physically got in his way. The only reason the situation was “scary” was because of Reese Witherspoon being an entitled jackass.

    • gogoGorilla says:

      Seriously?

Reese totally blew up this situation into something it did NOT have to be. Her husband was intoxicated (one can assume, since he failed the field sobriety tests) and seemed to be cooperating with the officers, when out of the car pops I-AM-AN-AMERICAN Reese to right the wrongs of justice.

Geez. She was clearly throwing a fit because she is an entitled bitch. I bet she is really lousy to the people who work for her and constantly stiffs waiters out of tips.

  43. jilly says:

The real Reese is a rather unattractive person in every sense of that word.

  44. Junegorilla says:

She is apparently a huge bitch. Drunk or sober. I would feel bad for her husband if he wasn’t a drunk mess himself. He should start a “I was driven to drink because of my bitch of a wife”

    • NP says:

Don’t feel bad for Toth. He knew what he was getting into when he signed the contract!

      • portia says:

In an earlier comment you alluded to Toth’s issues…do tell!!!

      • Gretta says:

I remember some folks were surprised when they got together because Toth had the reputation of being quite the player about town.

Looks like Reese is well able to take care of herself.

  45. hairball says:

Just watched this. I TOTALLY agree that if Reese had not been white, that they would have done a lot more extreme measures then they did.

She’s disgusting. She was shocked that she was not let go. She’s telling the second police officer that she told the first police officer that he was going to be on national news. As if she was ‘nice enough’ to ‘warn’ the first police officer what might happen if he continues arresting her. ???

The fact that she repeated it to the second police officer just shows how completely entitled and out of touch she is. She just expected to be let off because of who she is.

I am SO f@cking sick of these celebrities who think they can do whatever they want and it’s fine. You know what, f*ck them. They put on play clothes and pretend to be other people. I hope she has huge backlash for this. What a b*tch. GOOD for those cops doing their job and NOT being intimidated by this moron.

  46. hairball says:

Telling the police officer “My name is Reese Witherspoon and you’re going to be on national news. Just want to let you know”

What a f*cking b*tch. Yea to that police officer!

  47. KellyinSeattle says:

She is not an A-list actress by any means, and if it weren’t for this, nobody would be talking about her….also, being an American citizen does not mean it’s okay to be an ass. I think this story has stopped being interesting.

  48. squeakie says:

the cops will let the other passenger drive away even if they suspect they are drunk, and then they will pull you right back over. My boyfriend and I were pulled over one night after leaving dinner where we had 2 beers each. The cop insisted he was drunk (he wasnt) but he was scared he would blow over the limit since its .05 in my state. My boyfriend asked what would happen to me since I had the same amount of alcohol as he had and the cop told him I could try and drive away but that I would be pulled over as soon as I did or have the car impounded. My Boyfriend blew under (.03) to the cop’s disappointment, and we were on our merry way! As for Reese this is defiantly the best comedy shes given us in a LONG time.

  49. Reece says:

There is so much more to say on this yet there isn’t more to say. I’m done.
Except for the cap, B*TCH PLEASE!!!

  50. annie says:

Two drunk adults driving home from a party. Despicable. THere is nothing she can ever do or say that will excuse this potentially homicidal behavior. Reese is making a joke out of what she did. DIsgusting and unforgivable. What a terrible role model she is for her children.

  51. Deedee says:

    Losers.

  52. Just Celebz says:

She Is One Crazy Woman! Not Very Popular Right Now For Sure!

  53. Arock says:

    K

  54. erika says:

    so…lemme get this right..

If you’re an American citizen you can avoid arrest for a DUI (or even a sobriety test)?

The FACT of the matter in all of this is:

You/Jim, both, were in a vehicle, ignition ON, DRUNK. Sometimes, that KILLS people. Innocent people.

That’s just the facts maam, just the facts. Grow up and take responsiblity for your DUI and thank GOD you didn’t hurt someone. you’re $$$$$$$ RICH….spot for a cab.

  55. cateD says:

It’s funny, here in Australia the police get annoyed if you don’t get out of the car. Had a black friend from the US when a mate was pulled over (ended up being a random breath test in out the middle of nowhere, Queensland). He immediately got out of the car, the police officer reached back to get his breath tester and she was near hysterical, hands up saying “don’t shoot him, God please don’t shoot him”. The policeman thought that she was taking the Mick; we no idea what was going on – after we explained to her that here, the police like to see the driver out of the car, she calmed down. I’m grateful to her, because if I was pulled over in the US I’d probably be tasered in a flash because the first instinct is to hop out of the car and wander over to see what the police officer might want…

    • BizziLizzi says:

Yep, and if you stay in the car in Aus the Police Officer tends to think you have something to hide… It is very different!

  56. Other passenger says:

Pretty sure the other passenger was Molly Smith, who is the producer. Reece mentions her by full name directly in talking with Toth when they are in the backseat and that she would be “right there” after they got transported. Apparently she was the genIus who told Reece to keep getting out of the car. Her PR must be excellent to have kept her out of the coverage for the most part.

    • annie says:

There was someone else in the car? WTF? And were they sober?

    • NP says:

The 3rd person was not Molly Smith. It was Shannon Rotenberg. If you listen to dash cam, Reese clearly states that Molly Smith would be there any minute and she knows Denny! Toth tells the officer that the 3rd person is Reese’s BFF from LA also! Shannon Rotenberg!

      • Birdie Tweets says:

You are correct. Not Molly Smith. Witherspoon called Smith while Toth was being investigated. Witherspoon states Smith was on her way while her and Toth were cuffed in back of patrol car. Toth tells officer that the 3rd person had been drinking, doesn’t live in ATL, is Witherspoon’s best friend who also lives in Los Angeles, that being Shannon Rotenberg.

      • Other passenger says:

Sorry! I stand corrected NP. The way she says it sounds like she’s talking to her in the car (and I just now saw your earlier post, did not see that before) Lainey confirmed it In her post today as well. Was that who Reese was noted with in Ted’s Shafterella blind a while back? Fits the description. Anyway, you are right! Shannon! (since she seems to merit the exclamation point)

  57. pwal says:

I know that many, including myself, mentioned that they should’ve hired a driver, but they also could’ve researched Atlanta’s hotels, find out which one had a restaurant/bar/lounge that suited their purposes, or top drawer room service, rent a room, head to the bar/lounge, get their drink on, and go upstairs when they were done. Of course, a patron or member of the waitstaff could tweet about their anti-sobriety activities, but that would’ve been less embarrassing and less endangering than what they did.

Maybe the thought of paying the celebrity tax (read: tipping large) was the motivation for going out while not looking Reese Witherspoonish put the kibosh on the hotel plan.

  58. buzz says:

There was a blind at CDAN few months back about how this “sweetheart” actress was anything but behind the scenes. Hmmm.

  59. The Original Victoria says:

There was this rumour on CDAN talking of an A-List actress who pretends to be sweet but is really bitchy and a racist. And a lot of people said Reese. Interesante.

  60. Perspective says:

LOL. It’s true what they say about her, “mighty mouse”, that’s the polite way of saying it. Drunk or not, she reacted quite poorly. She probably forced her husband to drive. He ain’t the boss in the relationship, that’s for sure.

She sure knows how to play that sweet girl image, this probably isn’t the first time she’s tried this on. Yikes Reese, your reputation is tarnished, now you have to actually be nice to people even when they’re not at your “level”. It is going to take more than wearing the police cap to get people back in believing your sweet lies.

People should have known she’s not as nice as she’s cracked up to be especially when she considers “Chelsea Handler” as one of her clique.
