This is just kind of a fun story (not really news) that I found myself drawn to because I sort of admire Nicole Richie no-nonsense attitude. Nicole was on a trip from New York to Los Angeles and a paparazzo was on the same flight as her. After landing, Nicole noticed that the man was not attending to his own daughter while trying to take a photo of Nicole, so she tweeted about it and snapped the above photos for Instagram.
Nicole’s description of events seems a little bit embellished, but let’s do this anyway: “This paparazzi (sic) dragged his poor, sweet little girl on my plane from NYC to LA. As he ran her off the plane, he dropped her ON THE FLOOR of LAX as she laid there, crying her eyes out.. Just to get his shot. #Heartbreaking #FatherOfTheYear.”
You gotta love Nicole’s spunk, right? Obviously, this dude did not book a flight to Los Angeles with his daughter in tow just so he could take photos of Nicole Richie. He was probably merely on the same flight and saw an opportunity to make a few bucks at his usual profession since he was already carrying his massive pap cam with him. I doubt he tossed his child — who was probably merely throwing a toddler tantrum — onto the floor, but the guy should have been attending to his daughter instead of snapping a photo of a celeb. Whatever the case, it’s still funny that Nicole did this to a pap.

I agree–whether she was calling him on a real instance of bad parenting or just turning the tables on him, GOOD for her for showing a pap how it feels to have a pic taken out of context or misinterpreted – they do that to celebs ALL the time. That needed to be done!

Right. Ever read the horrible things NR wrote to one victim of Lindsay’s stealing? Nicole is exactly the kind of person who shows a pretty and quirky exterior to the world, all while bending the truth and being cruel to others. And it’s not even the very common “coming back home to bitch about the day or the people you met” we’re all guilty of; it’s rather a “I’ll frigging hurt you if I can manage to just do that and not get caught, just for fun” attitude.

I have to agree with you. I don’t know Nicole and this is based purely on the Simple Life and vibes, but she strikes me as a real mean girl, ice cold b-tch. I would be hesitent to believe anything that comes out of her mouth.
I LOVE Nicole Richie’s style, but I agree with you :(. I used to think she had actually changed and was a kind person, but after reading gossip blogs that aren’t afraid to tell the truth, I was disappointed to find out that she still is nothing but a mean girl :(. And a really nasty one at that.

FAIR game. You know if she was carryign her child, and no matter the cause for HER child being on the floor, she owuld have been crucified and they woudl have snapped hundreds of photos of it, and make quick, dirty money off of her.
I hope this guy is greatly embarrassed and I hope this sends a small message out to the paps: develop a sense of ethics and morality, if even just slightly!
Yes, exactly!! If any celeb was doing what that paparazzi was doing, most of the comments here would be judging that celebrity just as unfairly as they are judging Nicole for her comments. She was probably being facetious because of how the tabloids make crap up about celebs all the time!
I’ve never liked her. You can put lipstick on a pig, and it’s still a pig. I’m not excusing the paparazzi’s actions, but if that event went down the way she claims, why didn’t she rush over there and check on the child’s well-being? I don’t have children, but if I saw one fall off a bench, especially one that young, I’d make sure he/she was okay. Nicole the attention-seeker? She Instagrams it.
So many possibilities. 1) The child didn’t actually fall, but is throwing a tantrum and Nicole is making a point by exaggerating the situation because the dad should be paying attention to the child. 2) The child fell a moment before she snapped her pic and fell because dad was paying attention to Nicole instead of the child. 3) Nicole did go over to help after she took the pic (unlikely because it doesn’t seem safe to me).
Regardless, someone above made an excellent point that if the tables were turned, we would be yelling at Nicole, not the person taking a picture of her and her child. I think he’s total fair game.

I’m no fan of the paps, but people are not required to carry their children 24/7 – in fact, I think it’s ridiculous to see all these Hollywood parents toting around their toddlers, who are old enough to walk, as if they were infants. And the kid was right next to him.
As for Nicole Richie, didn’t she become famous for being famous? The fashion and entertainment stuff came later, but at the ripe old age of 33, I can remember when she first became famous – through a reality show with Paris Hilton, then a few DUIs (drugs, I think), then motherhood and marriage. She wouldn’t even be famous if not for people like that pap.
I think a lot of them carry older kids BECAUSE of the paparazzi. They get way too close and swarm them.
Yeah, she’s a prime example of the white washing that occurs when a woman has a kid. She got pregnant to avoid jail time, but because she’s kept her nose clean (or she’s really good at keeping her bad behavior under wraps), and she’s not as insufferable as Paris Hilton or her protégée Kim K., people don’t bring it up anymore.

I don’t see anything wrong with turning the tables on the guy, and letting him know what it feels like to have every movement photographed and dissected.
How do we know he is a paparazzo? Just because he has a big camera? Did she ever think that maybe he is carrying around a camera because he is a tourist? Saying he “dropped” his kid is very extreme. I bet he just set her on the ground to walk around and she chose to lay there. The picture doesn’t show her crying since it is so blurry. The only thing that man is guilty of is taking a picture of Nicole Richie. Seriously, weren’t there bigger celebrities there?
She probably recognized the guy. Celebs do recognize the people that stalk them after awhile.
You can bet that if a celeb’s kid was photographed on the floor while the parent was otherwise occupied, the paps would be all too happy to sell the story of a neglectful parent not concerned with their child. Probably end up on those “Worst Hollywood Moms” covers. So, to me, a little turnabout is fair play.
Even if the kid was having a tantrum, you don’t let them do it on a dirty airport floor while you fiddle with a camera. Not buying the sympathy for this guy.
I agree Lisa. Perhaps NR’s kids never threw a tantrum after a cross country flight while waiting for luggage at the airport? Celebrity problems…
I have no issues with NR taking pics of someone photographing her, but to (maybe) dramatize the behavior of a father who just kept a small child occupied on a cross country flight is a bit ridiculous to me. I haven’t read any articles about a man with a camera on a long flight ignoring his screaming child just to “stalk” NR. He must have done something right.

Maybe the kid was throwing a tantrum and he was trying to soothe her and left her in the dust for a snap. Either way, he “dropped” his kid for a foto. Tsk tsk.

She’s on a show called “Fashion Star” and she does have fashion line of her own. But aside from that, she gets papped simply because of how she was before and how she is now. She was wild before, but now she two children, is married, and is successful so far. That alone is worth regular coverage when it comes to tabloids.
