Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds spotted together in Detroit: what in the world?

Here are some new photos of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds (together!) at the Detroit Metro Airport over the weekend. They were boarding a flight to La Guardia, obviously, because they live in New York City – and they have a little country home in Bedford, NY. I have no idea what they were doing in Detroit, if that was just a layover or something. Or maybe they decided to go on a mini-break… to Detroit? I have no idea. Do people really go on mini-breaks in Detroit? No offense, Michiganders, but I really don’t associate your state with celebrity vacation getaways. It’s more likely that they had a layover or something. It could have been work – for him, not her. She hasn’t worked on a film in a while.

Blake was in China late last week for a promotional event on behalf of Gucci. She’s the mouth-breathing face of Gucci Premiere, and she wore Gucci for the big launch event in Shanghai – you can see the photos here. The dress is classic Blake – very tight, shiny, and with an unfortunate peplum. I did find one photo we can use from the event – did you know Blake has an Instagram account? Truth. Her account description is “I am an actress, model & spokesperson for Gucci fragrance. Living in New York. Happy, healthy & classy.” HA.

Update by CB: Here’s a photo of Blake that the Gucci people sent us. They write that “Blake Lively wore a Gucci One of a Kind metallic bronze leather cocktail dress with peplum detail at the waist and a Gucci Fall Winter 2012 necklace with pendants in metal, crystals and peacock and black resin

I feel like they turn up in the oddest places. I live in NYC and I once saw her waiting for a subway at the 34th st station which…if you’ve ever been here you know is maybe one of the grossest, dirtiest subway platforms in manhattan. She was wearing of course a little cupcake dress and was clearly trying desperately not to be noticed. Also the word classy always makes me think the person using it is anything but. I hate that word.

    • GiGi says:

+1 about the word “classy” – I hate that word, lol!

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

+ 2. As my mother would say, “anyone who uses that word has no idea what it means.”

    • BGirl81 says:

“Also the word classy always makes me think the person using it is anything but.”

YUP! It’s like “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.”

      • MoxyLady007 says:

Anyone who says classy is desperately trying not to be trashy – or so I was taught

      • hadleyb says:

If you use the word classy you are trashy? I have never heard anything so ridiculous in my life.

So I am “classy” if I use the word trashy then? lol

      • Boodiba says:

I dunno… with the f word it’s ok. I have a spaghetti tank that says, “Fucking Classy” in fancy script, so swirly people don’t notice what it says unless they’re REALLY looking.

    • mercyme says:

Well considering that Instagram is not Blake but someone posing as her, I would have to agree with you. It’s definitely not classy to impersonate someone.

    • Faye says:

I think Margaret Thatcher once said that any woman who has to call herself classy isn’t.

I actually don’t mind Blake and find her harmless. But calling oneself classy is rather cringeworthy :).

And the 34th Street Station is ick. I had to go there daily years ago as a student. Not something I’d do now as an adult who can take cabs and car service :)!

    • Fue McCormick says:

… Yes … if you have to tell people you’re classy, you probably are not …

  2. GiGi says:

I’m sure they were just making a connection – Detroit is a Delta hub.

That being said…. Michigan rocks. We actually have a lot of celebs with homes here (and not just Michigan natives, lol!) It’s a big center for the arts and combine that with all the lakeshore and the fact that Michiganders are pretty low key and unthrilled by celebs and you have the perfect recipe for a retreat from the big cities.

    • Heather says:

Yep…Northern Michigan is beautiful. Michigan and Detroit aren’t the same thing.

      • GiGi says:

I’m in Kalamazoo – people who’ve never been here don’t realize that Michigan is a short plane ride from the coast. I know Mario Batali (for what it’s worth) has said he can fly home to Michigan more quickly than he could drive home to Connecticut.

I’ve lived all over the country, but when I was ready to start a family, we moved back here. I haven’t regretted it for a minute! I’m a total dork for my state, lol!

    • Samtha says:

Yep. I fly pretty frequently from Cincinnati, and are connecting flights are almost always in Detroit.

    • Scarlet Vixen says:

Another Michigander here! I live in Grand Rapids (west side) and Detroit is like a foreign country to me. We never go there unless we have to. 🙂 I spent 2 weeks there last summer doing concerts, and it’s a weird big city and ghost town combined.

But, as someone who grew up in California, I readily admit that Northern and Western Michigan are really beautiful. It’s always so green, the skies are so blue, even the lakes are lovely. Now that MI has great tax breaks for the film industry many more movies are being filmed here and celebrities are falling in love with it.

      • GiGi says:

Hey Scarlet! WooHoo from Kzoo! I used to travel to Detroit quite a bit for work (film industry stuff) – but since Snyder cut the tax breaks, there’s a lot less filming going on there now.

Certainly parts of Detroit are awful, but I went to college in Ann Arbor and head over to IKEA in Canton – the outlying areas of Detroit are pretty schmancy 😉

      • phoenixthecat says:

Raised in Farmington, did undergrad in Ann Arbor (go blue!!) and transplanted to the west side (grand rapids) after grad school (in NY). I was a little uncomfortable with the conservatism out here but I think everyone lives their own life quietly out here, I love my home state!

  3. Andrea says:

They seem happy together. I don’t know. I know she is annoying but I’m finding it hard to judge.

    • Ella says:

Agree. I am starting to like Blake. She seems happy and harmless. Married life is doing her good.

  4. abbie246 says:

He was probably filming a movie maybe making a connection. Recently a lot of movies film in Michigan.

  5. LadyAnne says:

    Classy ?? LOL.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Seriously. Who describes herself as classy? Ugh.

Anyway, she looks awesome in that peplum dress.

    • mercyme says:

Once again, it’s not Blake. There was just a story about this on one of the entertainment news sites where she said she has no Instagram. I’ll see if I can find it.

  6. x says:

Yea, especially her nude “leaked” pictures were the epitome of class.

  7. E says:

We actually get a ton of celebrities in Northern Michigan during the summer. We just had Ryan Gosling in Bay Harbor. Over the last few summer’s we have also had Tim Allen, Joan Rivers, Nigel Barker….And many athletes have homes along the water.

  8. Sarah says:

Guys, she’s preggo. Look at her bum and peplum dress to cover the baby.

  9. cher says:

For the record Blake doesn’t have a Twitter or an Instagram accounts. She confirmed that at a recent interview. Those are all impostors. Look at all the images posted, those are all photoshoots and paparazzi shots.

  10. serena says:

Give her 5 years and she’ll become the next Goop.

  11. Lillith says:

I really want to see what their bio child would look like. With his beady eyes that are spaced to closely together and her rodent face, could be a very “interesting” looking kid.

Why isnt she working? She does know that the window for actresses doesnt stay open very long, doesnt she? Or is he worried that she would shadow him, if she pushed for the career. God knows hes the least talented of the Ryans.

    • mercyme says:

They don’t even have kids yet and the insults are already prepared. Lovely.

      Reynolds is definitely talented.

  12. Liberty says:

Michigan: the former CEO of J Crew, Emily Cinader Woods, attended the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, a Detroit metro burb, which supposedly gave rise to her boarding school aesthetic, as seen thru the brand. Linda Dresner launched and HQd her own stores in Birmingham, Michigan. So maybe Blake’s fashion quest has taken her there. Lots of old money in the area. I have spent summer weekends there at the homes of friends’ families, people I met in Boston and NYC. Some great country weekend homes, golfing and sailing, and areas for filming, too.

    • Turtle Dove says:

You’re right. Detroit is grimy, but on the outskirts of Detroit there is A LOT of money and some gorgeous neighborhoods. I really like Troy for shopping myself.

I could be for event for Blake, but Ryan is Canadian and Windsor, Ontario, Canada is right across the border. Maybe he was visiting a relative or friend.

      • Hollz says:

Seems unlikely, Ryan is from Vancouver which is on the other end of the country.

      • Turtle Dove says:

@Hollz – What? Are you seriously saying that it is impossible for a person to have a friend or relation in another part of the country? How do I know that this is possible? Well, Hollz, I have relations all over the country, coast to coast, and I have friends who live in Canada and the US.

        *shakes head and smirks*

      • Bridget says:

Considering she was just in China and they’re on their way back to NY, its probably just a layover. And TD: since Ryan is Canadian he must know someone in every Canadian city? It wouldnt have been nearly so irritating if you hadnt written ”shakes head and smirks” – take a good logic class and learn how to make an argument before you get to insert any sort of geature.

  13. Simply Red says:

Michigan now If I want to lay low that’s definitely the place… It’s peaceful as for Detroit man that’s like a whole another world (I don’t mean that in a good way) even though its in Michigan…

  14. cw says:

Michigan is a great vacay place – up north i believe, never been, but being from Illinois i had lots of friends who vacayed up there in the summer

    • Barhey says:

Definitely go! We’re only about three hours from the upper peninsula and its a trip I wish I would have made more often. I really can’t even describe how pretty it is – the water, the sand dunes, the rustic small towns. You’d love it.

  15. sauvage says:

Since he’s Canadian, I’d assume that they were in transition. I know you go to Montréal via Detroit, so maybe to Vancouver as well?

    But what do I know.

  16. MrsBPitt says:

I’m starting to love them together…and just because Blake is no great actress, doesn’t mean she isn’t nice and fun…They always look pretty happpy to me!

  17. magpie says:

    I give it 3 years.

  18. mercyme says:

Doing the math, if she was just in Shanghai and they live in NY, they were probably connecting to a flight in Detroit.

I visited Detroit years ago. Went to the DIA museum and saw the Diego Rivera murals, had some great Polish, Mexican, German food and saw some beautiful old homes in an area where the wealthy auto magnates built their homes back in the day. Also saw a lot of burned out buildings. Anyone know if the train station still standing?

    p.s. google is your friend:

  19. Shelby says:

Crews were shooting the Transformers 4 movie in Adrian MI this past weekend

  20. Alyce says:

I actually like the dress, but I like Blake in general, so I could be biased.

PS – The Instagram is fake.

  21. MissNostalgia says:

Michigan-a beautiful state; Detroit, well I’ll leave that alone.

  22. Samantha says:

Every movie ever films in Detroit, New Orleans, or Vancouver right now. One or both was filming something without a doubt.

  23. ashley says:

They were probably going to Windsor or something.

  24. jess says:

I usually hate peplums, but holy smokes, that dress is gorgeous.

  25. kim says:

    1. Blake does not appear sophisticated at all EVER
    2. Gucci and China in the same sentence? Sweat shop, genetically modified cotton, grossness at designer prices
    3. Cheap crap for a cheap “actress”

    Xoxo

  26. Sunnyjyl says:

As a Gossip Girl fan, I love to see Blake pop up anywhere.

  27. the original bellaluna says:

She looks like she’s about to cry.

    • Kath says:

Probably because of the UNBELIEVABLY RUDE douchebag who took a picture of them at a friggin’ airline counter!

FFS.. what has happened to the world where shoving a camera phone in someone’s face at every possible opportunity has now become socially acceptable (e.g. the Queen at the BBC)???

  28. Angie says:

My husband being canadian and me american, we layover through either detroit or chicago almost always, so yeah, probably that. he has his passport so i imagine they just connected from canada and are on their way to NY.

  29. Emily C. says:

Not associating Michigan with vacation getaways is fine, but it’s also kind of… er, ignorant. The U.P./northern Michigan region is one of the most beautiful regions in the world, with one of the best hotels in the world (the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island), and is a major tourist destination. Also, Detroit itself has one of the best art institutes in the world.

Maybe Blake and Ryan prefer outdoorsy, interesting vacations to the get drunk, party, and hang out on the beach stuff Leo and his ilk like.

People actually can live good, fulfilling, interesting lives without ever stepping foot in L.A. or New York. I think it’s silly to be surprised when a celebrity turns up somewhere other than the really huge celebrity destinations. It’s not like Detroit is Antarctica.

  30. Tania says:

I like them. I don’t know why. But I do.

  31. palermo says:

I grew up in Detroit, go back every year. Right across the bridge is Windsor, Canada. They also film movies in Detroit now cause it’s cheaper. Lots of great stuff to visit in Michigan.

  32. Lexi says:

I dont like the dress at all

  33. GByeGirl says:

Detroit has some of the best food in the US. Yeah, parts are sketchy, but Detroit is a cool city. Many Detroit suburbs are quite affluent. Northern Michigan is one of the most beautiful regions of the country. Lush, hilly, Great Lakes and small inland lakes everywhere. The air just smells clean and lovely.

  34. taxi says:

The dress is beautiful & she wears it very well. Peplums, properly cut, look terrific on slim-waisted figures. Only thing I don’t like much is this hairstyle.
Great color too for that dress.

  35. Amy says:

Also isn’t Madonna from Michigan? You can’t get more American than being from Michigan. Even if you pretend to have a British accent.

  36. Emma says:

Lol that is not a real Instagram account. That account practically screams crazy fan and it is.

  37. gin says:

Love them as a couple. I think it’s her choice not to be filming right now. It has been reported previously that she isn’t pushing her career right now. I think she is enjoying her marriage to Ryan they both look very happy. I think Blake is a much better match for Ryan than Scarlett was.

  38. KAL says:

Uhm, he’s Canadian and it’s a border state?
