Please, let this one be a hoax.

  2. Ana says:

    I actually like the name.
I also like that they gave her two other normal names to go by if she doesn’t want to take Seraphina.
I almost named my daugther Everly Grace.

  3. Jaclyn says:

DD is NOT a Hollywood outcast! Just another rumor.

He is so great on Califorication, you gotta love him. 😉

  4. Tess says:

Mommy, can Seraphina and Violet come over to play?

Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up!!!!

  5. vdantev says:

How about Pretentious McStupidname? Why leave any doubts?

  6. I think Sassafrass would have been even better!

  7. HEB says:

I wonder if thats code for Jen had really bad heartburn during her pregnancy 🙂

I dont think its that bad, they’ll probably just call her Sera for short.

  8. Cath says:

Love it! Very old fashioned, just like Violet. I wonder if its another family name–since Violet was Jen’s grandmother’s name.

  9. katyalia says:

Yes, Cath, it was the name of his
    Grandma’s handbalm.

  10. NotBlonde says:

What a pretty name. It isn’t pretentious, it’s lovely. It certainly isn’t boring.

  11. Zoe says:

@Katyalia: “Yes, Cath, it was the name of his
    Grandma’s handbalm.” ha! funny.

not so crazy about it. It just sounds incredibly Catholic to me, but I could be wrong.

  12. Larissa says:

    @Katyalia: LOL

    que será, será…Seraphina? seriously?

why not just name the baby Cellophane Sunflower Elizabeth Taylor Garner-Affleck?

Enough joking,Rose Elizabeth is such a gorgeous name!!!! Both over used yet classic and refined, like Violet Ane! Seraphina is just too over the top for my taste!

  13. MomInNH says:

Sarafina was my great grandmother’s middle name. It’s quite old and hasn’t been in fashion for decades. I like it. She can go by Sera or Rose Elizabeth if she chooses. Nice traditional name without being oh so trendy like the poor Bronx Mowgli.

  14. Mairead says:

I’ve critiscised celebrity baby names often enough in the past – but I really like the name Seraphina. It’s Italian isn’t it?

I just remember that a seraphim is a type of angel. I guess they could have called the child Angela, but Seraphina has a real musical sweetness about it.

  15. Leandra says:

I like the name and I’ve heard it before somewhere. She may end up going as Sera but either way, it’s a fine name.

  16. Ned says:

Is she trying to compete with Brangelina’s Shiloh or Tom and Katie’s Suri?

I can see that hebrew- biblical names are now a trend, but if she thinks her daughters could compete with either Suri or Shiloh for media attention, she is in denial.

Nor daughter of hers could even compete with real beauties.

    Sorry, plain Jen.

  17. Tassi says:

I did name my daughter Everly!

Only to find out that a certain Red Hot Chili Pepper named his son Everly…. but really I think that it is a feminine sounding name.

We have had nothing but compliments.
    Congratulations on Seraphina!

  18. Ally says:

What’s wrong with Blake Lively on the cover? She’s gorgeous, fabulous, and adult woman-sized, as opposed to starving 14-year-old sized, for a change.

  19. Christina X says:

I’d buy Kim Kardashian’s exercise tape, actually.

  20. Mandy says:

I think it’s a very pretty and feminine name.

I don’t like to criticize anyone for their kids’ names, because whatever name they choose, it obviously holds special meaning for the parents. Take Bronx Mowgli, for example. Ashlee and Pete apparently chose Mowgli because they bonded over the fact that “The Jungle Book” was a mutual childhood favorite. They’ll probably read it with their son when he gets older, and maybe establish a family tradition. And really, how is “Bronx” any different than naming your kid “Dakota” or “Brooklyn?”

  21. Kim says:

I love the name. Can’t see any problem with it. Old fashioned but with character

  22. dovesgate says:

    Its a pretty name.

  23. Bellatrix says:

It can’t be italian as it would have an “f” instead of “ph”. But there’s a story about Saint Seraphina that does originate from Italy (wasn’t it a woman whose infidelities drove her husband crazy until he decided to bring and leave her at a convent?).

It is indeed a rather ancient name and I actually know someone’s grandmother who’s called Séraphine and also a little baby girl who’s been named so (in France). It means “angel taking the human appearance” in Hebrew if my memory serves me correctly.

In Russia, I believe the diminutive form to call a Seraphina is Phina (pronounce Feenah) which I find absolutely adorable.

  24. geronimo says:

I think I prefer your Séraphine, bellatrix, it’s got more of a contemporary feel to it but Serephina is lovely too. As is Phina.

  25. Mandy says:

For those curious about the name’s origins: in Judaism and Christianity, the Seraphim are one of the choirs of angels. The Hebrew word “Seraph” (“seraphim” is plural) translates to something like “one who burns,” burning being a metaphor for passion.

Finally, my Jewish education was put to good use!

  26. Anon says:

I like Serephina – it’s not ‘out there’ as far as I’m concerned. Plus it shortens to ‘Sera’ which sounds rather sweet.

  27. Emily says:

I like the spelling of Serafina better. Seraphina is too much like Seraphim.

  28. NJMDPS says:

    Stupid name.

  29. Mairead says:

Wow – thanks for all that info Mandy (and correcting my grammar.

Just for clarification I’m guessing you mean “passion” in the traditional or religous sense – not in the Hollywood bodice-ripper sense *wink*

I must say Séraphine is probably one of the prettiest names I’ve ever heard.

  30. Sally says:

Seraphina is dignified and elegant – as opposed to the sleazy moniker Matt Damon gave his kid – it just screams “Hey, I’ll be shaking my t*ts on stage just like my mom.”

  31. Ter says:

It’s a lovely name. An angelic based moniker is nothing to sneeze at. It doesn’t sound trite or made up. I’m sure that she will grow into it and wear it with grace.

  32. mamacharli says:

I much prefer quietly, elegant and delicate names for girls. Especially for a lovely young lady. Violet is also a quiet, elegant and delicate name so new sister’s name fits the family profile.

Old fashioned does not have to mean unlovely or unsophisticated, and at least it’s not over-used and abused. It may however be more than an mouthful for such a small bundle of love and beauty. *smile*
