Did People Mag make Duchess Kate look extra-tired on their special-edition cover?

I cannot believe how quickly People Magazine did their “Collector’s Edition” cover this week. They literally had this online less than three hours after Duchess Kate and Prince William debuted HRH Prince Cambridge outside of St. Mary’s in London yesterday. And you know what? I don’t know what they were thinking when they chose this image for the cover! Kate looked so much prettier in other photos. It’s like they Photoshopped her to make her look MORE tired than she actually was. I mean, Kate had her hair stylist come to the hospital and this is the result, People?!

Anyway, you can skim People’s online story here. There’s not that much new information thus far. Kate and William left the hospital roughly 27 hours after Kate gave birth. William drove Kate and his son to their cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace. Carole and Michael Middleton were the baby’s first official visitors, and Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall made a quick visit a few hours before Will and Kate left too.

For her first post-baby appearance, Kate wore a baby-blue, polka-dotted Jenny Packham dress which (gasp!) had an appropriate hemline. Kate has worn a lot of Packham in the past – Packham’s designs are usually feminine and girly, nothing too avant-garde or edgy, so it’s a good fit. Many are pointing out that Princess Diana wore polka dots when she left the hospital with then-newborn Prince William. Also: Kate loves her wedges. Are those the same wedges she wore for the Olympics and for her pre-wedding photo-ops?

As for yesterday’s appearance, I was struck by how incredibly small Kate was – I mean, her midsection still has to “deflate” (like every new mother), but her arms, her bust and her legs held up to pregnancy rather well. I also have to admit, I was surprised by the ease with which she was moving around. Remember how she looked and moved when she was hospitalized for HG? Every step she took, she looked like she was about to barf on William. Yesterday, she looked jaunty and comfortable.

Here are some more photos of the big reveal. I’m trying to include some close-ups of the baby’s face. People are saying Prince Crumpets takes after Kate… I see it in the baby’s nose, but I think it’s weird to judge a newborn baby’s looks. Give it a few months, then we’ll get to see his features a bit better. My guess is that he got his mum’s dark hair and nose and William’s blue eyes. Also: Baby Crumpets is a BIG baby, right? I don’t know much about babies, but it feels like I was looking at an especially big newborn.

I love the fact that she actually looks like the mother of a newborn. Not someone who is starving herself in expectation of bikini pics three weeks after the birth.

    • dahlianoir says:

Exactly !! Enough of the tummy tuck mania, let our bodies heal at their own pace >_<

      • Greenieweenie says:

Not everyone who has a relatively flat stomach after giving birth has had a tummy tuck, FYI. Some women stay in the hospital longer; many wear girdles or whatever you want to call it…I hate this notion that just because someone doesn’t look like ME or women I know after giving birth somehow means they must have had extensive surgery.

Dude, everyone’s different. Everyone’s body is different. Clothing, for those who know how to wear it, can work wonders. So no, I don’t believe Nicole Ritchie or anyone else who looked slim after giving birth had a tummy tuck. I looked slim too, and I sure as hell didnt have surgery!

    • Anna says:

Yeah, but besides the tummy, she looks basically bikini-ready. Her body looks nearly the same as pre-pregnancy.

    • Kate says:

We’re seeing her literally a day after the birth. Every celebrity, even those who’ve done the big post baby body reveal, have left the hospital with a bit of a belly (even those who’ve had tummy tucks. A tummy tuck will get rid of excess skin and fat, but it won’t make the uterus contract any faster). We just don’t see that part.

If Kate had the option to hide away for a month or two like most celebs, it would be a different story.

      • FLORC says:

        Well said Kate.
Kate isn’t showing off extra weight as much as her uterus just needs to go back to it’s original size.

Give Kate a few weeks and she’ll be as thin as ever. Just like most other celebs that have babies. There’s nothing revolutionary happening here

    • MooHoo says:

Totally agree. Really love her for that. Is Kate the face of a new feminism?
Watch all new celebs flash their jelly tums post-pregnancy from now on.

      • Kate says:

You realize she had no choice in the matter? There was no getting out of doing the pap walk out of the hospital, and given just how soon she had to do that, there was no hiding her post partum belly. She’s wearing Spanx or a girdle, you can see the outline in some pics, but even that won’t do much in the hours after birth.

If it had of been winter she would have been covered up, but she couldn’t get away with that during the heatwave.

      • Kim1 says:

I agree she had no choice ,her job is to produce an heir and make a public appearance ASAP

    • LAK says:

i think it’s sad that we’ve evolved to extent that natural bodies as a result of natural functions are viewed as somewhat unusual and worthy of comment.

      • Sloane Wyatt says:

ITA. Wouldn’t it be groundbreaking if Kate slimmed down nice and slow?

Letting the whole world see that baby weight is supposed to come off at Mother Nature’s pace could blaze a new fashion trend. I can see magazine covers now, “Best Celeb Natural New Mums!”, “You Too Can Naturally Slim the Royal Way!”, or even “Let Nature Reign: Royal Slow & Steady Slimming!”

      • Thinker says:

From Kate, keeping au naturale is an achievement worthy of comment. I’m sure she considered wearing a girdle yesterday, but in the end she let it all hang out. It was very cool.

      • lisa says:

honestly i had no idea that it is common to still have a bulge there right after childbirth, even though it totally makes sense now that i think about it

no one i know well has ever had a baby

      • Belle says:

@Sloane Wyatt: I really don’t think she has much slimming down to do though. The tummy is simply the enlarged uterus that most women have after giving birth… and will go back down in size over the next few weeks. After that, I think she is going to look quite slim again. 😉

    • ahoyhoy says:

Reminded me of how that K-trash won’t be seen til she’s done dieting—-THIS is how you do CLASSY (with a C). A brand new mom will be out-of-shape for a bit (she created a human baby in there, ffs!). When did we start pretending that everyone just ‘springs back’? I think that does such a disservice to new mothers, makes them insecure.

      • Nicolette says:

We didn’t start pretending, Hollywood just likes to make us feel like they all bounce back within days. They can’t wait to show us their bikini ready bodies, but they’ve had help, lots of help getting to look that way so fast.

      • FLORC says:

        Ahoyhoy
Will you still be saying this when Kate emerges a month from now pre baby weight? or will you be praising her for losing the weight? Kate’s lack of weight gain during pregnancy and the praise she has received for not gaining like other pregnant woman has already put extreme pressure on regular woman. Sadly, I saw this coming and have already seen many woman working out too much or not eating enough to mimic Kate. I doubt that would have happened if there wasn’t such praise for maintaining her slim frame while growing a human being.

      • Cerulean Skygirl says:

Absolutely correct! After I gave birth to my daughter I thought I’d be able to fit into my “regular” jeans again (although a size larger). NOPE. Thank goodness I had a pair of sweats with me that fit. It takes weeks or months for the stomach to go down, depending on your previous health level (and women aren’t supposed to work out again until at least 6 weeks after giving birth!)

Most Hollywood Moms give a false impression of what a post baby body should look like. ALSO, I might add that after giving birth, wearing Spanx or a girdle is quite uncomfortable. There are more important things to focus on after giving birth!

  2. Anna says:

Completely agreed. There were so many adorable pictures from yesterday, instead People chose one where EVERYONE looks bad, and there’s no chemistry.

    • Pinky says:

I think they Photoshopped her face from an entirely different time onto that cover. She didn’t look like that yesterday. PS Fail.

      • Belle Epoch says:

Agree! Is she wearing makeup in the PEOPLE pic?

I really give her credit for fixing herself up and having a PHOTO SHOOT FOR THE WORLD when she has to be exhausted, bleeding, sore boobs, maybe stitches – it’s a tough time and she’s hiding it well.

      • Thinker says:

Uh, she’s clearly wearing make up. The eyeliner and blush are applied with their usual vigor…

In fact, I think it’s the heavy skin make up that makes her look haggard in People’s print photos. The same pictures used by People were on the Daily Mail online, and the lines on her face were far less visible through a digital screen. The heavy make up was the problem. It’s very obvious when you look for it and compare William’s skin tone and texture to Kate’s.

I still think she has never looked better, or happier. Good for them.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I thought she looked so pretty and happy yesterday. Don’t know why they chose that picture. Not especially good of William, either. Odd.

    • Lindsay says:

With her photos especially the source matters A LOT. The Daily Mail always have really good, flattering, and heavily retouched Kate photos with maybe one outworn the end that aren’t enhanced. During the whole “Is Kate really pregnant?” and the “Is Kate too thin for a healthy pregnancy?” crazy media coverage stories the different photo sources and media outlets showed how wide the range was in retouching from one set of photos to the next she could gain or lose a week or 4 of pregnancy stages.

    • bluhare says:

I think the photo was taken when she was trying not to cry and that’s why it doesn’t look perfect. I hope it was happiness and not panic.

Anyway, I think the photo they should have chosen was the one of William by himself looking down at the baby he was holding. Perfect focus, blurred crowd in the background, and spoke volumes. Kate should get it framed.

      • Thinker says:

You are onto something here. The whole presentation was probably a highly charged emotional strain. Kate looks proud, but drained and nervous. Apparently, Diana cried the whole way back to Kensington Palace.

Blame Charles, turns out he was the first to insist that royal women give birth in hospitals. Oddly, I think that giving birth is such an intense, private and personal moment in a woman’s life that it should be allowed to be private and kept behind closed doors unless she personally choses to share it. It’s also interesting, because among the women I know homebirths are making a big comeback. Barring complications, most women do not need the facilities of a hospital or the assistance of doctors to give birth.

      • Inconceivable! says:

People also photoshopped William’s teeth. His are several shades more yellow than Kate’s. but the cover has then both smiling with bright pearly whites.

  3. Tanguerita says:

She just looks older than her age, not just in these pictures, but generally so. However, I agree, it’s a poor Photoshop job.

    • Ktx says:

I’m her age exactly. I don’t think she looks older (in general), except when her face gets too thin. Now her sister is a different story. I think Pippa looks older than her age. Maybe it’s the fake tan. These girls look better when they’re not orange, and Kate looks better when her face is a bit rounder (as it is now).

    • FLORC says:

Kate looks exactly how she always looks in these photos. Her make up is subtle and applied correctly though. It makes her look so much younger when someone else does it for her.

She’s smoked and tanned for years and years on top of her family not having the best skin. This is how Kate looks naturally. Also, the under eye work, nose, and something with the cheeks are all being undone with age. Personally I think she was her prettiest before cosmetic surgery. Why can’t woman age naturally?

  4. JenD says:

The cover photo doesn’t look anything like her, in my opinion. She looks great in the other photos, though. Beautiful baby, too.

I wonder if they had a coordinating pink outfit to debut the baby, too. I think Kate and William look adorable in the coordinating blue clothes.

  5. Sandy says:

My son was about the same size at birth and yeah, he looked huge compared to the other babies in the nursery. Better big than too small, though. Anyway, they look thrilled so congrats to them!

    • Marigold says:

Mine too. She weighed a touch more than the Prince and I never realized what a giant she was until I heard the media cover this kiddo’s weight. I’ll say this-a bigger baby does make you feel a little better about the fact that newborns can lose up to 10% of their birth weight in the first couple days.

This cover is awful. This is the best these 2 (+1) have looked and they provided countless lovely photos and People butchered the material. For shame.

    • swack says:

I had two babies the same size and on 7 lb 12 oz (16 days early). I don’t think that is really that big. Now when you talk of 9 lb babies – those are big babies.

      • Bijlee says:

I was 10 lbs. My mom said I looked like a 3 mo old compared to all the newborns in the nursery. Damn my baby weight has just stayed with me too.

      • Marigold says:

Well, he’s only about a half pound from 9 so I’m not sure I see your point. I had a friend who had an 11lb baby. That’s a big baby.

      • Belle says:

My second baby was 10 pounds 8 ounces (delivered a week early), and looked huge next to some of the other babies! When my sister came to visit, she joked that I’d given birth to a toddler. 😉 She is a skinny-minnny now though, as is my oldest daughter who was almost 9 pounds at birth.

    • Audrey says:

My daughter was the smallest in the nursery so he looks like a giant to me. She was 2 days early and weighed 6lbs 4oz. And she got down to 5lbs 5oz due to jaundice.

He’s big in my biased opinion

      • Bbb1975 says:

He sounds big to me too. I know he’s actually about average but all 4 of my babies were little. From 5lbs 7oz- 6lbs 13oz.

    • Scarlet Vixen says:

I had 2 over 9lbs and my 3rd was 8lbs even (and my longest labor was 4.5hrs), so I don’t consider 8lbs 6ozs to be ‘very’ big. That’s good sized imo. I liked having bigger babies–I felt they were sturdier and not so fragile! When my niece had a 7lber I was afraid to hold her–I’d never held a baby so little because we grow them big in our family. 🙂

      • Lemony says:

My mother’s friend gave birth to a 12.5 pounder! It was her 5th child, & she said each one got bigger with each delivery. I was blown away that she delivered her vaginally. But her tailbone broke during labor.

  6. DanaG says:

I think she looks great and she will be back to her old self within 6 to 8 weeks. First time mothers tend to bounce back faster especially if they breastfeed. You can see William in him except the new baby has hair and it look dark so far. William was bald as a badger! Glad they are home resting we should get official pictures in the next couple of weeks. We hate ones of William about 8 days after his birth. His name is the next big thing so many rules! Poor kid but I think he looks like a George…George Clooney better watch out. LOL

    • Syko says:

I read that all the bookies are favoring George as a name.

    • Lauren says:

That’s not always true w breast feeding- I have two children- one I was able to nurse and one I wasn’t. The formula fed one I was back into regular jeans in a few months (and I am not a super work out person) and the BF one I finally just had to buy bigger jeans. Sometimes your body actually holds into weight while you’re nursing.

      • GiGi says:

Same here! Breastfeeding burns a lot of calories, but I was absolutely starving while I nursed! I never lost the last 10 lbs until I stopped nursing.

      • swack says:

Thank you. I have said the same thing on other threads when people have talked about breastfeeding and losing weight. Everyone is different. And truly if you are breastfeeding you need the extra calories to help keep up your supply and make sure there are enough nutrients.

      • Thank you x2! I GAINED weight breastfeeding. (I bounced back to pre preg weight 9 days after I delivered, then I started G A I N I N G!!) it’s all for a good cause tho 🙂

  7. Talie says:

I’m actually shocked a baby that big came out of her! She carried that pregnancy well! Kim Kasashian must be seething… ha!

  8. Lucy2 says:

I was amazed how good she looked so soon, and standing there all done up and in heels! So yeah, that cover is not good.

  9. The Wizz says:

3.8 kgs would be just over average. My two, both girls were 3.5 and 2.9 kgs respectively.

  10. GiGi says:

My older two were 9 lbs – and I carried small, too. They were big babies (especially compared to my third who was 4lbs when we brought her home!) but I had natural non medicated deliveries and basically as soon as they were delivered I felt great. A bit sore, but not as bad as I thought & walking/moving around wasn’t an issue at all.

I thought the little family looked great – exceedingly regular (which I’m sure is the goal). And Will even brought the hot for the first time in a looooonggg time, lol!

    • Esmom says:

Agree about Will, I liked what he wore and he was charming and humble. Maybe not exactly hot but definitely cute!

  11. Esmom says:

Not sure about Kate, the thing I noticed immediately about the cover is that they whitened William’s teeth! Much better.

What a sweet introduction to the world, beautiful family.

As for baby’s features, my younger son came out and you could instantly see my husband’s nose, chin and mouth, rendered in miniature form. That strong resemblance has actually faded a bit as he’s grown, so you never know.

  12. mkyarwood says:

    Baby squishy face!

  13. GiGi says:

On the name issue – I know George is the odds on favorite, but there’s no way he’ll be George, right? Because Charles will be King George?

My guess is James Arthur Phillip Henry.

    • The Wizz says:

Has Chuck definitely decided he’s going with George?

    • LAK says:

Why not? are you forgetting the first 4 Georges who were consecutive?

Not to mention several consecutive Henrys

I am hoping for the first Philip myself.

      • GiGi says:

I actually prefer George – I have a Henry and if we had another son he would be a George, too.

It just seems with modern naming conventions to have a King George and a Prince George at the same time just wouldn’t be done. Of course Prince of Cambridge maybe wouldn’t be another King George and would take another name.

For some reason I just don’t think he’ll be George.

      • Suze says:

        Me too!!!!

    • GiGi says:

Ugh! Totes forgot Viscount Severn is a James. Put me down for Phillip Alexander Charles Henry. Or Alexander Phillip Charles James. Or something, lol!

    • bluhare says:

I vote for William Jr.. They could call the baby Liam.

  14. Sloane Wyatt says:

This is Photoshop gone horribly awry.

After contrasting the ‘People’ cover of Mrs. Cambridge with her beautiful candid photos, I think I see the Photo Editor’s fatal flaw. They added BACK IN poor Kate’s heavy raccoon eyeliner, which totally defeats her natural New Mum Just Like You Look her makeup artist labored over!

    • Maum says:

If you look at the candids you’ll find that she was wearing her usual raccoon eyeliner, it’s just less noticeable than normal because she (understandably) looks more tired.

    • m says:

The reason she looks terrible is because they DIDNT photoshop it. Most people arent used to seeing the real Kate.

      • FLORC says:

        Thank you M.
I’ve only seen the real Kate with crooked, yellow teeth, horribly damaged skin, and fried, broken hair. She has with the past year or so had veneers installed. When people cheer that Kate is so beautiful and natural they’re cheering photo shop and an editor for working those miracles. She’ll be back to botoxing soon enough too even though it’s nice to see some smile lines on her face and her smile looks less maniacal because she can move all the muscles.

The real Kate is best captured in her portrait. The softened look of the whole thing lessens a lot of lines, but it’s the best likeness we’ll get aside from civilian cell phone pics.

      • Belle says:

Completely agree FLORC. I don’t know what all the fuss over this cover photo is about. I think she looks fine… just not as photo shopped as so many other pics we see. I noticed this in the live video, and thought about it at the time, that Kate looked lovely, but definitely her ‘real’ self. Yes, much like her portrait (which so many were critical of, for making her look ‘old’).

  15. mel2 says:

I think her body looks great considering she gave birth the day before. It’s crazy how nowadays you give birth and within 24 hrs you’re kicked out of the hospital. I pray the pappos will not stalk her like they did Princess Diana and allow her to raise her child in peace.

  16. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

Whats wrong with her, she should be showing off her bikini bod like Kendra Wilkinson did hours after giving birth.

  17. Missy says:

She looks amazing, my colour never came back for months free my daughter was born. She must have had a relatively decent birth. I had very few stitches and tearing and still found walking incredibly painful.

  18. lisa says:

i think she looks great w/o the level 4 eyeliner

  19. Coconut says:

    Isn’t Harry’s proper name Henry?

Baby doesn’t looked properly strapped into carseat. Belt looks loose and the blanket should be *over* the belt.

    • Maum says:

Yep. People who pointed that out on British forums got accused of being haters.
I don’t understand how no-one in the hospital told them you don’t swaddle a bay before putting them in a carseat. With the heat yesterday that poor baby must have been boiling. It was very hot and humid too.

    • Mr. Stinky FishFace says:

That was the only thing I could focus on after I noticed it. There’s no way that someone could think that looks right. The little cutie isn’t even restrained!

    • LAK says:

It was amusing the internet meltdown around the time of the Olympics when Harry’s proper name was used. Some people were actually affronted that they didn’t know Harry is just a nickname. That it was some form of conspiracy.

  20. Marisa says:

I was the same weight when I was born, and I’m now 5’10”, and the daughter of two tall parents. I’m sure that Prince Crumpets will take after his parents as well 🙂

  21. emmie_a says:

For all we know maybe the other photos that were released were photoshopped and this one wasn’t… But considering she had her hair and makeup team there, I would expect her to look camera ready, in addition to the new mother glow.

And I don’t think it was ever confirmed that she had HG?

    • FLORC says:

      Emmie_a
All we have are previous pics of both photo agencies and regular folk to go on. When analysed Kate’s teeth are normally a bit yellowish. Not the bright white here. Her hair is smoothed out a bit and skin is slightly improved. Her make up is refined. There was mild touch up work done for sure. And most of pics of her are touched up a bit.

People thinking Kate isn’t photo shopped live under rocks. It’s so silly when the evidence stares you right in the face.

She was never confirmed to have HG. The palace claimed it once and never spoke of it again. Her pregnancy was very normal with mild morning sickness in the first trimester.

      • emmie_a says:

Oh I totally agree with you — she is always photoshopped. I didn’t realize that famous people buy photos from agencies, photoshop them and only then are they made public. I seriously thought famous people were THAT much better looking than us average folk. It wasn’t until I started reading gossip sites that I realized they just want us to think they’re that perfect. In reality they’re not.

And my other theory about her People cover is maybe People isn’t as gaga about Kate as other media outlets? Think about the unflattering pics of Lindsay Lohan that celebitchy posts along with her stories (I love those pics!) Maybe something like that is going on with Kate??

      • jwoolman says:

It didn’t look like mild morning sickness when she came out of the hospital a few months ago. She looked like she was trying womanfully not to upchuck before safely out of camera range…

HG is not always persistent throughout pregnancy, for some lucky people it stops much earlier. Some people also respond well to medications to control the nausea and vomiting. I doubt she would have been hospitalized for just mild morning sickness. Obviously her physician decided she needed more extensive testing and/or care than could be provided outside the hospital.

  22. Sal says:

No photoshop. This pic looks like all the other ones we’ve seen.

  23. janie says:

She looks like a new mom? Her body looks terrific, it may be her height? She’s fairly tall. I think we’ll see them sooner, than latter. Will was the first to change his diaper, that’s a dad Kim Ktrash! They will be as normal as they want. I love the name Phillip or Alexander… Will is the queens favorite, I think she will approve any name within reason.

  24. joblow says:

The baby’s so cute. Its face expression is like ‘Leave me alone I just want to bloody sleep’

  25. anon says:

her baby bump looks like a real baby bump now than before especially in that pale pink coat where it had looked so small or even at the hair salon pics where she stil looked small. i guess it must have been the final month that the bump really came out. nice to see her outfit and goes to show she gave birth to a healthy baby

  26. Amy says:

Kate did look very emotional when they first stepped out of the hospital. If you go back and watch the footage it looked Like to me she was trying not too cry. All the cheering of well wishers, the media presence, all these people wanting to see her new baby… That’s a lot of pressure and attention for a new mother who has just given birth and just so overwhelming. I think William took the baby from her so she could calm down and collect herself he could tell she was struggling to keep it together. She seemed to do a lot better once he started fielding questions. Such a contrast to when Diana and Charles stood there with William!

    • Sisi says:

I think they purposely both held the baby for the press. Now they have photo’s with the mother and the second in line holding little prince whatshisname.

She did look like she was about to tear up a little, but it didn’t look sad to me. She looked rather proud, happy and a little overwhelmed.

    • Belle says:

She didn’t look THAT flustered to me. A bit overwhelmed, but not terribly so. In the live feed (and subsequent video), she actually asks Will if he wants to hold the baby… and yes, I think it was planned that they would each hold the baby so the press could get photos of both.

  27. Cammie says:

    @ Kate & Florc..love your comments..

I have heard people say most celebs should be like Kate and show their post baby stomachs…blah blah

but Most celebs don’t do a photo Op 1 day after birth, and if they did they would be called famewhores…

Basically Kate had no choice in the matter and won’t do anything to upset Royal Tradition.

So really I don’t see her doing anything special because in 2 or 3 mths she will be skinny again like most celebs..

    • AllyUK says:

I think some of the media were saying she could have hidden the bump however chose to wear a dress that emphasised it.

She’ll lose her weight quickly because she’s naturally slender.

Kate’s choice of dress is fine. It looks comfy too. Some outlets always claim Kate could have done this or that to make her end choice seem all the better. It’s just bolstering an image they wish to sell. “Kate could have worn Dior, but chose to wear jenny p because she’s just like us!”
Kate is naturally athletic in her build with some weight. After one of the break ups between her and William she started smoking to keep the weight off and never looked back. That’s the Kate most people know. A very thin one. Naturally she’d never be a large woman, but naturally she’s not that thin either. The olympic weight was her lowest I think.

I just hope she’s given up the cigarettes for sure this time.

Thanks! This baby must be seen. It’s the price paid for being financially taken care of. People will want to see a happy family as often as possible. If she and William wanted to raise their child privately he could have abdicated and she would have married a private citizen. I don’t agree with so much attention on a baby, but I understand the price other women refused to pay by being William’s wife. Kate signed on and William remains in line.
A country in hard times needs that happy image even if it is another mouth for them to feed.

Love her, and I think she looks great.

    this is how she looks

    and her dress choice:
The dress looks like all her other dresses. Maybe she wasn´t thinking about her after baby tummy? Maybe she was thinking that she will be thin again after the birth? Not every woman knows what comes after birth…

    • emmie_a says:

Wow – People actually did her a favor and smoothed all her lines.

      • Belle says:

Agree, I’m not quite seeing the ‘bad photo shop’ that so many others are seeing on the People cover.

When I watched the live video feed when they left the hospital, I thought Kate looked lovely, but did notice her ‘real’ appearance… and thought about how she didn’t have the luxury of photo shop on a live video feed!

  30. Kristen says:

She looks GREAT! But after seeing these photos, it’s pretty obvious she gets botox. I never noticed the deep worry lines on her forehead before. She clearly had to stop during pregnancy.

  31. kg says:

The name thing is so weird because most kings pick a new name upon coronation.

    • GiGi says:

That’s what I think – even if they name him George or James or Linus or Larry – he may not be King (insert first name here) – he may chose another name, which is commonly done. I’m really curious for the name to be released now!

    • Sisi says:

I think he’ll have to pick out of all the names he was given at birth.

That’s why it takes so long, every single name he gets must be appropriate for a future king, and consented by the queen.

  32. Mrs.Krabapple says:

I see she still took the time to put on the eyeliner and pancake makeup. She’ll be starving herself again soon (if she hasn’t started already) to get back to her barbie image. Such a terrible role model. At least she had a boy so she won’t have to pass on her eating disorder an screwed image of “ideal” female to a daughter.

    • LeeBlaylock says:

Although it may go against feminism, some women do wish to remain thin and in good shape. It doesn’t mean they have an eating disorder.

Her body size is her business anyway.

      • ataylor says:

Ugh. Agreed. I’ve never understood why so many women HATE IT when other women take the time to take care of their health or looks. One of the ways doctors know someone is experiencing mental health stress/depression is when someone let’s go of their looks and stops taking the time to maintain their physical appearance.

I’m athletic and fit. I get so much crap from my overweight co-workers for having the NERVE to dedicate 45-60 min to my fitness 4-5 days a week. I like dessert just like everyone else. That doesn’t mean I want to stuff my face EVERY SINGLE DAY with early morning doughnuts that someone brings to the office.

Just because being overweight, fat, plumpy, chubby, whatever, is the national norm, doesn’t mean that it’s healthy or that others should subject their lives to being unhealthy for the sake of other people’s self-esteem.

And don’t get me started on the Curvy = Fat argument. Um. No. Curvy means having an hourglass figure due to a smaller waist compared to the hip/bust measurements. I’m so sick of hearing apple-shaped CLEARLY morbidly obese women claiming to be curvy.

        Denial isn’t helping anyone.

Is Kate too thin? Sure. We all know that’s not her “normal” pre-royal body-type or weight. Do we know if she’s anorexic? None of us have a clue.

What we do know is that she is going to be judge by millions and is one of the most photographed women in the world.

She knows perfectly well if she so much as gains 20lbs she will be called a fat cow or worse by the media. If being on the thinner side is what helps her avoid dealing with the media evisceration, that’s her issue.

It’s not pretty and it’s not a very feminist thing to say and I don’t agree with the lifestyle at all, but let’s face it, it’s not her job to be a role model for women.

Kate’s sole reason for existing in that family is to shut up, look pretty and pop out royal babies.

PRINCESS DIANA’s sole reason for existing was to shut up, look pretty and pop out royal babies.

Fergie’s sole reason for existing was to shut up, look pretty and pop out royal babies.

Look what happened to the marriages of the last two?

The problems with the royals got worse when their behavior started to overshadow Charles & Andrew by taking on more royal duties and courting the press and flirting with scandal.

There’s a reason Kate’s schedule is kept at a bare minimum. She knows her place. If she wants her marriage to last she’s going to need to shut up and play the part the right way. Hence, her lack of career.

Even Sophie had to give up her job in public relations when she ended up marrying Edward and raising her children.

    • Ktx says:

      Ataylor, very well said.

  33. CassT says:

    I want that blue dress.

  34. daisy says:

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have named their son George Alexander Louis, Kensington Palace has said.

  35. Inconceivable! says:

***Anyone else shocked at the incorrect way George was placed in his car seat?!! A swaddled baby and the straps are loose, as well as incorrectly placed. Even driving only a few miles this is dangerous! Am I the only one surprised by this???

  36. Suse says:

Terrible name. Sounds so old… no name for a baby in 2013

    • bluhare says:

QEII isn’t exactly 21st century, and she has to approve the names.

    • Lemony says:

Since it’s been rumored that Alexander/Alexandra was a favorite name of Kate’s I wonder if his nickname will be Alex?
Prince Harry is so well known by his nickname that many don’t know that’s not his given name.

    • CindyKennedy says:

A lot of old fashioned names make a comeback later on. I think George is a good, classic name for a boy.

    • jwoolman says:

A lot of families recycle certain names. A Jewish custom is to name a child after a dead relative (but not a living one). One study long ago suggested having an old family name rather than a newly minted name seemed to be an asset, something about having sturdier family connections was guessed. (The amazingly creative “new names” in our local newspaper do seem to come from young unmarried teen moms… Sounds like they’re naming a doll.) Obviously new names crop up all the time, but many regular parents don’t go for the currently popular names but stick with family favorites because they are personally meaningful.

For the royals, they now have three names to choose from for what they really call Prince Crumpets. For instance, they can call him Alex if they want, although I don’t see why anybody would quibble about George. Lots of famous and not famous Georges around. But it’s not uncommon for non-royals to use a middle name instead of the first name.

  37. taxi says:

In departure pics, Will drove & it appeared Kate was in the rear seat. She may well have done the strap adjustments after the car doors closed.

  38. Mia says:

Yea, I think this photo looks pretty terrible in comparison to the candid photos that were immediately released when they came out of the hospital with the baby. It’s weird.

  39. Donna McDaniel says:

Kate does not look tired, even if she did she would still look beautiful, and WHO CARES ANYWAY?
