Emily Ratajkowski is Esquire’s woman of the year: great choice or overexposed?

emilygq5

Emily Ratajkowski has been named Esquire’s Woman of the Year, which is no real surprise because she’s huge with the lad mags. She’s huge everywhere since the “Blurred Lines” video hit the internet. Emily beat out every other starlet after trailing Jennifer Lawrence in the reader poll’s early days of voting. Esquire describes her as a “part-time animal husbandrist,” which is … interesting. I wonder what she thought of that confused-looking lamb in Robin Thicke’s video.

I’m sure a big cover spread (hopefully not another Terry Richardson shoot) is planned for Ms Emily, but Esquire announced the big news over the weekend. The news arrives at a great time too — the NY Times just did an interview with her. They touch on her Gone Girl casting, which by the way is perfect casting. The first time her mistress appears in the book, her boobs are out, and Emily’s got the best rack. I’m not trying to be crude! She does. Here are some excerpts:

Emily Ratajkowski

On the frenzy of NY fashion week: “You do what you have to. It pays the rent.”

On acting: “I’m not worried about nudity,” she said. But “I’d rather play a complex character who has a love scene than a stupid girl who’s just a girl next door. All of a sudden, Hollywood, all of these producers, were like ‘You’re an actress.’ There’s been a lot of great offers, but you have to wait for the better one.”

She got noticed at age 13: Whenever modeling agents would approach, “my mom would snap back, ‘She’s going to be a brain surgeon.'” At 14, she signed with Ford models as a way to get into acting. She would model once or twice a month while getting small television roles, including a stint on “iCarly.” But she soured on the television industry because of its typecasting. “I was so tired of auditioning for the bitchy girl in high school.”

On the “Blurred Lines” vid: “The attitude was silly and playful. There isn’t this taking yourself seriously and trying to be sexy.”

She has big dreams: “Whether I’m talking about a perfume, a movie or an editorial, there’s always a part of it that’s about me but an equal part that’s about the project. I want to be a brand.”

[From NY Times]

Emily also told Fox News that she wants to move into acting full time: “I want to be the kind of person who you say, ‘Emily Ratajkowski is on this project,’ as opposed to, ‘Oh, the model, or now-turned-actress.” I guess we’ll see what happens after Gone Girl” arrives in theaters. She’s got a fighting chance, but it’s really hard for models to find staying power in movies. Even the legendary Cindy Crawford couldn’t do it.

She’s very beautiful but did she do something to her lips?

    • BW says:

First I was going to say, “Who?”

Then my second thought was, “Those lips aren’t natural. Gross.”

      • jane16 says:

Ditto. Never heard of her, (but I don’t listen to modern pop music), and the lips look really fake. Pretty girl, though.

  2. blue marie says:

Other than “Blurred Lines chick” I’m still not entirely sure who she is. She’s pretty but as far as I can tell right now, that’s about it.

  3. klue says:

Cindy was as compelling as paint drying on screen. Zero emotive ability. Emily’s hot..but she talks like a valley girl.

  4. Buckwild says:

In every thing I’ve seen her in after, she never looks as amazing as she did in the video. I think it’s the lighting and the red lips. She needs the red lips 24/7!

    • rtms says:

This! Something about the lighting, video shoot made her look so much different than in actual shoots. She just looked so different when I saw her in a mag shoot etc. Just no as stunning as that video.

  5. GlimmerBunny says:

Very beautiful but doesn’t exactly sound like a girl that could have become a brain surgeon in the interview…

  6. Dani2 says:

She’s gorgeous but what does she actually do?

    • Merritt says:

      She takes her top off.

    • Lameliah says:

It’s kind of depressing that all a woman needs to do to be “Woman of the Year” is take her clothes off. Surely it wouldn’t be that hard to find someone who’d accomplished a little more than that, non?

  7. lenje says:

I found out there’s a Tumblr pictorial of hers (not sure whether it’s hers, or someone else’s), almost all of which featuring her in bikinis. It has existed since before Blurred Lines. So yeah.. she’s been capitalizing on that body for a while.

  8. Merritt says:

She is just everywhere lately. This a lot for someone who I don’t think I’ve ever heard speak. But that is obviously not a requirement to be woman of the year in a men’s magazine.

I’m still annoyed that she has been cast in Gone Girl. I really hope there are last minute cast changes for this movie. So many of the people who have been cast are just wrong for the roles.

  9. Tiffany27 says:

Jennifer Garner should be quite concerned.

  10. Frida_K says:

She looks like Nastassja Kinski’s anorexic and slightly mentally challenged long-lost cousin who just came back from the plastic surgeon’s office after her quarterly lip injections.

Too bad that Dr. Feelgood over-did the top lip this round. Better luck next time!!

    • Sunny says:

OMG you´re right she has something from the young Nastassja Kinski. This chick with her super boobs will soon be forgotton exactly like Thicke and the song.

I think the lips could be real.

  11. Savanna says:

That header photo Esquire chose is so awkward of her! It almost looks like she has chocolate on her upper lip. But her lips are bonkers anyway.

  12. Calcifer says:

I think she is striking looking rather than beautiful. With something a bit predatory about her looks. She has a beautiful décolleté, but hips that are a bit too narrow for my taste. In every photo you see of her, she swings her hips to the side in order to make them look more curvy than they actually are. But well, not being perfect makes her more human, so thats fine. And men are probably so swept away by her sex appeal that they won’t notice any imperfections anyway.

  13. AlmondJoy says:

She’s gorgeous! To those questioning whether her lips are real, its very possible that they’re natural. I don’t think they have that swollen, fake look that most people have when they get injections.

  14. Lucy says:

I remember her from ICarly. Can’t believe it’s the same girl! Hahaha

  15. drea says:

Well, that’s what a great set of mammary glands can do for you in this world. It can get you into a greenlit film starring an A-lister faster than drama school and years of work in your resume.

I just hope she picks her opportunities wisely and has a solid plan to capitalize on her current popularity. I’ve seen her images for the Bruce Weber book. In the series I saw, she was topless and cavorting in the surf with different male models like Marlon Teixeira (lucky beyotch). I think that, unless she can really act, she might want to spend more time cultivating her connections with top flight photographers like Weber.

  16. Happy21 says:

I have no idea who she is. I’ve seen the blurred lines vid once and wasn’t paying much attention. She’s pretty but given her interview (or at least what I’ve read of it), she seems like she is just like every aspiring actress out there. I would be really surprised if she can actually act.

  17. Rae says:

Considering I have no idea who she is, I am going to go with a ‘no’ to the over exposure.

  18. Dana says:

She looks like the heavily operated version of this girl: http://jeromenicholas.wordpress.com/2012/01/10/catrinel-menghia/

  19. Haystacks says:

“Woman of the Year?” Wouldn’t that be Malala Yousafzai or Leymah Gbowee? Maybe they should reconsider naming is “Really Attractive Lady of the Year”. Though to be fair I think the above two are pretty cute as well.

  20. Yoda says:

She’s not even pretty but she has the most incredible, natural body ever. That BODY! OMG!
