Lady Gaga’s childhood dog Alice was put down, Gaga’s in deep mourning

This ^^ is a photo of Lady Gaga last year, carrying her then-new puppy Fozzi while on her Born This Way Tour. I don’t know what happened to this puppy. Is Fozzi still around? Is this puppy the second coming of Mercy Kardashian? I have no idea. I haven’t seen Fozzi in more than a year and I’m kind of worried. I thought at first that Fozzi was the same puppy being referenced in the following story, but maybe not? It seems that Gaga is in mourning for her childhood dog Alice:

Lady Gaga is mourning the loss of a family member.

The “Applause” singer, 27, stepped out in London Wednesday wearing funeral attire to pay tribute to her dog Alice, who passed away at 17.

“My puppy Alice died. We had to put her down, cancer ate away at a little angel. My daddy is so sad, we all are, lost a member of our family,” she wrote late on Tuesday.

Looking somber and donning an elaborate face mask that covered her eyes as she left a London hotel, she said that it was tough being abroad during this difficult time.

“I love being an entertainer but it is so painful sometimes to be away from home 17 years she held on, so many memories. Nothing beats family,” added Gaga, who’s promoting her upcoming album, Artpop.

Her dog had been by her side through her rise to stardom and everything in between. “I remember her laying [in] my bed, she knew when I was sad, or when I was sick. I should have been there,” she wrote. “I just pray Alice found her wonderland.”

[From People]

I had a English setter (my childhood dog) who lived to be 17 years old too. He was a good dog – he was a paranoid wanderer, playful and sweet-natured. His last year was hard though, but I couldn’t convince my dad to put him down. So the setter died at home and everyone cried. Ugh, I meant to write this as some kind of shade at Gaga for Mercy Kardashian-ing a pet who was no longer “cute” and “photogenic” but I get the feeling that Gaga’s parents were the ones taking care of this dog, and it’s not a Mercy Kardashian situation.

Here’s Gaga “in mourning”:

Sometimes losing a pet is harder than losing a human, depending on the relationship. I can’t cast shade on someone suffering the loss of a great soul simply because it came in fur form.
I just wish she’d stop wearing fur and contemplate the souls she keeps as attire.

    • txfollower says:

Amen. Ive noticed the fur too, and it hurts my heart! I can’t bear to see fur, it makes me wince and my stomach hurt. Not to sound dramatic. I am sad for her. Love for a pet is REAL. They truly are family members, and I know also that all dogs go to Heaven. Sorry Gaga. Prayers of peace.

I think that doorman’s expression says it all.

    • Lady Satan says:

Yup. How tacky to use the death of your pet, a member of your family, to debut a new outfit.

        +1

I feel like I’m being the local Pollyanna here lately, but … is this really a legit criticism? I mean, what she’s wearing is one thing, and the fact that she’s swanning a bit is another, but “she’s *using* the death *to debut* a new outfit” — hm. Wearing new and weirdo outfits in whatever situation is sorta part of her job. I think I can give her credit for actually mourning whilst also wearing crazyclothes.

  3. LadyMTL says:

Ohhhh, that’s sad. I remember a few years ago when we had to put down our cat (he was almost 15 and his health was failing), I was a total wreck afterwards. Losing pets really can hurt.

  4. blue marie says:

I can’t knock her for this, it’s too sad. When I lost my Annie to cancer I know I must have cried solid for what seemed like a month, heck I still get teary eyed. Losing a pet is always hard, but 17 yrs is a good, long life.

Ok, one thing about her outfit that I can’t contain. She looks a bit like Wicked Witch and may fly off at any minute, is that what she was going for?

  5. An says:

    Lady who?

  6. Hakura says:

I agree, Kiddo. Both about losing a great soul, & her choice to wear fur. I was surprised to find out she did, I always thought she’d be one of the ‘advocates’ against fur. I guess ‘fashion’ trumps all?

I’ve never had a dog, but I recently lost a guinea pig I adored, who lived longer than any we’ve ever had, to age 8. Pepper was awesome, I was crying every day for a month… I had him since he was super tiny, & sometimes still can’t help but slip & say his name when I’m talking to the others, now.

Gaga gets on my nerves no end, but my heart goes out to her in this case. Very sorry, Gaga. Come to think of it, when I can get online on something other than this iPod, I’ll change my avatar to honor him. He was my baby ='(

Oh honey, I’ve seen better costumes of Hellboy II’s Angel of Death.

  8. ANDREA1 says:

I came here to basically say the same thing. What a hideous outfit.

  9. eliza says:

No shade from me. Losing a pet is very hard.

RIP Alice. You are now over the rainbow bridge.

  10. prissa says:

    RIP Alice.

Off topic: I love her bag!

Always so sad to hear of the loss of an animal; I’m super attached to my babies. However, remove the hat/mask, and she looks chic.

  12. Kenyan254 says:

i LOOOOVVVVEEE animals around me…I feel that they were created for a higher, much important purpose than we can understand. our family has always had at least two dogs , a cat, geese and chickens.we all love our animals and treat them as part of the family;they at what we eat and when we eat it and also get regular check ups and washes. I believe they give you a certain type of joy that not even human beings can offer. Plus they are loyal to their deaths and don’t hold grudges against you and will love you regardless of what a kitty called Bubbles and he is the best thing in our house. He makes us soooo happy ….

  13. Axis2ClusterB says:

I feel horrible about the dog, but I can’t even with the outfit. I don’t get the impression that she’s really mourning – but then, I always think that Gaga’s going for the attention.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I agree. My heart goes out to anyone who loses a pet. When we had to put our Dog down it hurt so much I had to put my face in my pillow and scream. But her attention grab seems insincere . Maybe it’s just that I can’t stand her.

Is it wrong to love her Crazy Medieval Catholic Spanish Court mourning look??

  15. judyjudy says:

I lost my canine companion a month ago. It sucks.

  16. Carlos Danger says:

Like her dog, can’t someone put Lady Derivative down – please!

  17. Jayna says:

It turns me off that she uses her dog’s death to go out and wear a dramatic in-mourning outfit for a photo moment. Grief isn’t some big photo-op moment for another one of Gaga’s outfits. My dog is five months away from 15 and went blind this year which has been heartbreaking, and her breed’s lifespan is usually 13 to 15. She is a mixed breed, though, so I am praying for 16 to 17 years old. I am facing losing her eventually and it breaks my heart. I was never a dog person before her, but she won my heart the moment I laid eyes on her. And she was my baby and still is. She looks like a puppy to me still, just a slower version of herself. I won’t be out buying an over-the-top dramatic mourning outfit for a photo-op when it happens. I will be on the floor.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I’m so, so sorry. It’s the worst and it breaks your heart. But they are worth every tear.

Totally agree with what you said about Gaga, too.

  18. Kasey says:

She looks pretty in that mourning hat. The picture used as the header on the main page is the prettiest I’ve seen her look in a long time.

  19. eliza says:

    That coat is gorgeous!

  20. loie says:

How far can you walk carrying your purse like that?

  21. bondbabe says:

Though I feel for her loss, whenever I’ve lost someone – be it a person or an animal – I usually grieve in PRIVATE.

However, I just can’t with her over-the-top (again), public, look-at-me, “mourning.” Nothing more than another narcissistic display for her.

  22. lylaooo says:

its very hard to loose your “pet” kid. i love my animals so so much..

  23. nicegirl says:

My childhood dog lived for 17 years, too! Her name was Toto and she was my favorite friend, for years. Same kind of last year problems, and our mom would not put her down until the very last day – I couldn’t go, I was so upset, and I still regret it, although the rest of the family was there.

We do have a family dog now, that I’m a mom. We love her to pieces. Pets are wonderful friends.

    Best wishes!

  24. DetRiotGirl says:

@Kaiser I’m pretty sure Fozzi belongs to her friend Tara. They used to be photographed together a lot when Gaga was on tour, because Tara and the dog were around her more at the time. I have no idea what the dog’s current status is, but I hope that eases the Mercy Kardashian fears a little.

I don’t like Gaga, but I love animals. So, I’ll quietly refrain from shading how her new music is free falling from iTunes right now and leave this post at that. I’m sorry for her loss.

  25. DetRiotGirl says:

Ok, one bit of shade; I love that Gaga’s new single is being beaten by the Ghostbusters theme on the iTunes chart right now! Lol, happy Halloween!

  26. Antony says:

Fozzi is still around, and played Toto in a Wizard of Oz style performance of Applause she did recently .

  27. Dommy Dearest says:

This is very off putting to me. My little brother died earlier this month and I’ve been in complete meltdown mode ever since. I don’t deny that pet love can be a lot like human love (I’ve had pets, too) but I find nothing sincere about her in ‘mourning’. This is Gaga in costume, acting for the whole wide world. Just another attempt at getting some type of media coverage due to her fading fame. This feels mocking and I just hate her for it.
