Well, this is just shocking! What is the world coming to when Jake Gyllenhaal can’t make it work with a swimsuit model? Jake, 33, began dating model Alyssa Miller, 24, last summer. Their first big coupled-up debut was in NYC, through some candid photos also featuring Jake’s mother (coughMotherBoycough). Their romance also featured a handful of glowing tabloid stories about how Alyssa was “the one” and Jake was ready to “settle down.” So… of course it’s over now.
Ladies, he’s single again! Jake Gyllenhaal and Sports Illustrated model Alyssa Miller have split after nearly six months of dating, multiple sources confirm to Us Weekly.
“They fizzled out. It happened a while ago — before the holidays,” one insider tells Us. “He’s back on the scene.” (Lainey Gossip posted a story speculating Gyllenhaal’s now-confirmed single status on Tuesday afternoon.)
“Things were really good between Jake and Alyssa right up until he had to leave for L.A. to go shoot a movie [Nightcrawler] in the fall,” adds another source. “Then the distance just really got to them.”
Indeed, the handsome actor, 33, has been busy filming upcoming thriller, Nightcrawler, in which he plays a struggling, freelance crime reporter who comes across the underground world of L.A.
Another source tells Us that Gyllenhaal “was very taken with [Miller], but I think their work definitely drew them apart.”
The big chill occurred before the holiday season. “They were apart for the holidays, and things weren’t good with them even before that,” a source says. “She’s very much a long-term relationship girl. He’s not as much of that mindset.”
24-year-old Miller opened up to Us in late October about her relationship with the hunk. “Things are good,” she said then. (As Us Weekly exclusively revealed, the couple started dating in June after they first met at their gym.)
Gyllenhaal has a long history of dating gorgeous stars: His exes include Taylor Swift, whom he briefly dated in late 2010, Kirsten Dunst, his girlfriend from 2002 to 2004, and Reese Witherspoon, his last longterm relationship, which ended in 2009. “I know people are bummed, because many thought he had a chance this time,” an insider tells Us of the actor’s latest split.
Over the holidays, I did a marathon of Will & Grace. I miss that show so much and I was reminded (again) of how groundbreaking it was for network television to have a prime time TV show with a lead character like Will Truman. Why am I bringing this up in a Jake Gyllenhaal post? I don’t know. Something about the situation just reminded me of it. LaineyGossip says that her sources think Jake and Alyssa aren’t totally over, that they might get back together. Eh, who knows? I think he may be done with her. It’s time for him to start up with a new model that he rarely spends time with, and when he does, it’s only in the company of his mother.

Gay or bi, I don’t know but he did date Reese Witherspoon for awhile. I doubt Reese was bearding for him. That girl strikes me as a person who enjoys a good roll in the hay. If Jake wasn’t putting out I doubt that relationship would have made it past the first date.

Ellen Pompeo Said that he hit on her non stop during the filming of Moonlight Mile. It was a random comment in an interview and I can’t see why she would make that up. They never dated and she seems like an “honest” celebrity.
The gay rumours will never stop with him, which is kind of a shame. I feel like they’ve become so prevalent now that it has probably hurt his career in some aspects (most fan posts are people urging him to come out). He’s always made fairly decent movies, is GREAT and hilarious in interviews, good looking guy and yet he has never really gotten the super ‘movie star’ title.
And to add, he actually asked a hot waitress out in Vancouver a couple years ago. It never made the papers or anything (I only found out from family who lives there).. which leads me to believe that if he was actually gay, why would he be asking hot waitresses out on dates when he knows it isn’t going to help squash the rumours. Why would Jake come out of he was gay? Why would Jake, in particular, be the first A-list movie actor to come out of the closet in the history of Hollywood? I think he’d be nuts to risk his career like that. He’s not established enough to take a risk like that.
For the record I don’t actually believe he is gay. But I also see no reason why he would come out if he were.
He hasn’t come out because all the people still making money off him have prevented him from doing so. However, as his big “leading man” bid never took off, he might just do it in the near future. But as long as there’s a chance he might be a big moneymaker in films, he will stay firmly in the closet. It’s the Hollywood way: the masses [meaning het women] have to have their fantasies and illusions so that they’ll spend many of their dollars at the movies, and if that means an actor has to deny his true nature, so be it. Money talks; nobody comes out.
I read comments from people who based their assumption he was gay on the fact that he is very soft spoken and has a rather high voice for a man. Going by that logic, Ian McKellen with his deep, manly voice and very badass way of speaking must be totally straight. Other than that – he looks very metrosexual in many official tv appareances (too much foundation, slicked-back hair, too tight suits) and that”s why some say they get the gay vibes from him but he usually looks like a hobo who dressed in the dark in pap pictures, so…
I don’t think he’s gay because of the same reasons you all pointed. If he’s gay – Jenny Lewis and Kirsten Dunst are professional beards and and all of them are big fat liars and that and not the fact he’s gay would be awful for me to accept . There’s nothing wrong with being gay but I kind of get why some guys would want to stay in the closet for professional or personal reasons but it can be done without bearding (“I’m single, not your business”.)
I used to be a big fan of Kirsten Dunst and I remember how she and Jake couldn’t keep their hands off each other when they were together – they had an amazing chemistry and I can’t believe she would sign up to be anyone’s beard and fake all that during their relatively long relationship. She would be much bigger star by now if she played the PR games. Their bearding contract would expire at the moment they broke up, wouldn’t it? But it was she, not he, who talked about their “amazing sex-life” in an interview long after they were over. It was a big TMI but a few years ago she talked about how she and Jake used to have sex in public places and how kinky they were together, Why would she do that if this was not true?

Good lord – EVERY woman he’s “been with” has been a PR relationship, from Dunst to this woman in the photo above. These sorts of arranged relationships have been going on in Hollywood for at least 80 years – they’re a PR staple. They’re all smokescreens and just an extension of the acting these people have to do onscreen. “Protect the brand at all costs!” is the PR rallying cry.
The reason Gyllenhaal and this woman “broke up” is because her contract expired.

This man’s rep has certainly evolved from his Kirsten and Reese days where it was heavily publicized he is the longterm type. Apparently, he was the needy one in both. With Kirsten, he wanted marriage allegedly yet she was not ready to settle. With Reese, she’d just ended a marriage to a bad boy, which gave me the impression she was on the rebound and no matter how well he auditioned for the hubby and daddy role he wasn’t going to make the cut. I have nothing to say about his hookups with Taylor. But all three are blue eyed blondes…with a similar look… Alyssa kinda has the same dainty features but full lips and a brunette… Good for him for changing it up a bit. You know what they say about doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result.
He was super serious with Kirsten and they were all over each other all of the time in that first love way. It was reported that he wanted to settle down with her but he was kind of needy and she wan’t ready. I also think his relationship choices are fascinating because he is super tight with his family, very domestic, and he is a super nice guy(although lately the rumour has been he hasn’t been as nice to fans) and yet he chooses these women who are super bitchy.
When he was with Kirsten and she was still really famous, she was apparently the biggest bitch to everyone from valets to waiters/waitresses. He wouldn’t chastise her in public but apparently he would double back to apologize for her behaviour and tip extra. LMAO.
And yet with Taylor who was very into him he runs screaming for the hills. I think he likes them crazy and demanding and he needs to be the one pursuing. When you don’t want someone who is into you but always chase after the aloof ones, my friends and I call it Groucho Marx Syndrome, “Why would I want to belong to a club that would accept people like me as a member” indeed.
You make interesting points Sunny. A few years back my gf who complained about her inability to snag men or at least to get them to ask her out or stay longterm she theorized something similar. She insisted guys love bitches. I can’t remember the title but she was reading a book on ” how to be a bitch” or “why guys love bitches”.
Yeah some guys just LOVE drama–I don’t know why. My uncle is the same way. His first wife was a thief–she stole a car off the lot once. She told him that she had bought a car, and he didn’t think anything of it–until the cops showed up. She was supposed to be test driving it, but just drove off with it. He’s had tons of girlfriends like that–all crazy. He likes it, I don’t know why.

LOVE LOVE Will & Grace! I still get my fix every Saturday & Sunday mornings (8am to 10am). It airs on the W network in Canada. They took it off all December to air cheesy, crappy old made for TV Christmas movies over and over and over again and I was furious!

It is hard for someone to be gay in Hollywood. I would have trouble seeing a gay actor play a lead in a straight romantic comedy. However, I think when we start seeing it more and more it will no longer be an issue. I use to watch Queer as Folk, great show, I have since seen the actors play straight roles and did not have any trouble seeing them as straight. Who knows I guess it is the actor.
I have trouble watching John Travolta in Urban Cowboy and Grease now that I know he is one trip to the spa away from “To Catch a Predator the Gay Version”.
Neil Patrick Harris is gay and plays straight roles with no problem whatsoever. Even love interest roles.

I don’t get gay vibes from him, but he could be one of those people who’s just not that into sex in general. There are a lot of people like that, and no doubt they exist in the celebrity world too. I get the sense he’d not the type of guy to bust his ass for a relationship, or put up with any drama. His momma and sis probably take good care of him. And most hot celebrities in LA/Hollywood are verrrrrry high maintenance.
