Angelina Jolie in sparkly Elie Saab at the Oscars: style vindication after The Leg?

wenn21142831

This was Angelina Jolie’s big Oscars comeback after The Leg. And she delivered. The Leg of Doom did not make an appearance at all. The Leg did not even peek out on the red carpet. The Leg was demure. The Leg was sandwiched in between Brad Pitt and Benedict Cumberbatch during the Oscars. The Leg got to present with living legend Sidney Poitier (and The Leg had to support Mr. Poitier, because he seemed very frail). The Leg got to announce one of the biggest winners of the evening, Best Director. The Leg has been vindicated!

At the end of the day, Angelina Jolie did not go with Saint Laurent (it was widely predicted that she would go with Saint Laurent) or my designer pick, Jenny Packham. She went with this glittery Elie Saab. I mean, if you want to choose a designer who is one of the most Oscar-friendly, you go with Elie Saab. I did predict that Angelina would go with a metallic, and I’m pleased with this. She looks good in this grey/silver. The dress was flattering, it wasn’t a sack dress, but it also wasn’t too pilgrimy or modest. From certain angles and in certain light, Angelina was showing off a lot of cleavage. Which is bold considering she had a double mastectomy one year ago.

As for the styling… I loved it. While Angelina wears her hair down often enough, I feel like she made an effort to get a blowout and have her hair look very full and bouncy. Her makeup was lovely (her skin is fantastic) and the jewelry was to die for. VICTORY.

Obviously, I want to know more about Angelina sitting next to Benedict. Did their legs touch? Did he whisper bitchy observations to her throughout the evening? Did she whisper back? Did her hand linger on his arm as she laughed at one of his jokes? I could seriously go on and on. I’m planning on writing a series of erotic fiction based entirely on where Angelina was sitting at the Oscars.

But fine, let’s talk about Brad and how he’s now an Oscar-winner. Brad Pitt, Oscar winner. Brad Pitt, Oscar winning producer and his beautiful fiancée, double-Oscar winner Angelina Jolie. Oh, today is a good day to be a Brangeloonie.

Looks matronly. That would have rocked on Helen Mirren, a dress like that needs some meat to fill it, it makes her shapeless.

    • erindipity says:

      +10000000

Glad I’m not the only one who feels this way!

      • Serene says:

Amen! Angelina is gorgeous and has an awesome figure to match and then she goes and wears this! What the…???

I say bring back The Leg of Doom! So much better! (Also, would it kill her to wear bright colors? I’d love to see her in reds, yellows, blues….)

      • Tanguerita says:

+1000. Besides, I feel like I’ve seen this dress before – on Taylor Swift or Leightion Meester? And I think Kate Middleton wore a very similiar design by Jenny Packham, only with short sleeves.

      • V4real says:

I guess I’m the only one on this thread who feels differently. Though I’m not a fan of the dress I thought she looked good in it. I thought the dress made her figure look fullerand not so thin

      • Katiekat says:

I agree, it made her look more average sized. It might have been the boobs and the waistline of the dress, but the dress faked weight gain on her. I noticed that immediately, and I’m not a fan, either V.

      • It just needed the waist to be taken in–she has slender hips, so that’s the issue. I think that she was going for this look again, but it doesn’t work this time:
        http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/01/12/article-1112425-030608CB000005DC-882_468x833.jpg

      • V4Real says:

@VC yeah that was a much better look. Angie’s waistline is sort of boxy so she has to be careful with these types of dresses but I thought she looked good.

      • Suzanne says:

THANK GOD I’M NOT ALONE. If someone else had worn this dress, everyone would have hated it. But because it’s Angelina, it’s perfect. From the neck up, she’s perfect (of course), but the dress just does nothing for her. A v-neck, or some waist definition would have made this dress a homerun.

      • Delorb says:

        @V4Real,

So true. She has no true waistline to speak of. She goes shoulders to hips in one line. There are dresses that can mask that. Sadly, this one isn’t it. She should have ditched the lace as well. Yeah, it would have shown off those trashy tattoos, but what can one do?

BTW, nothing can absolve her from flashing that spindly leg. NOTHING. That faux pas should follow her around like the appendage it is.

      • Fan says:

It could have been a beautiful dress but the shape is so bad. Love her makeup, hair, and her skin is gorgeous.

    • emmie_a says:

I agree. As soon as I saw it I thought matronly. It’s sparkly but doesn’t shine. Not even close.

    • Eleonor says:

Helen Mirren would have killed it! You’re right.

    • Esmom says:

Yes. I had to do a double take I was taken aback by how sedate and yes matronly it is. Say what you will about the leg, she really brought the glam with that look overall. She looks pretty here but there is no drama whatsoever. Probably just how she wanted it.

      • That’s what I think–she’s the date of one of the producers–she’s not there for HER film or anything like that. So I think it’s appropriately low key. I wish that the waist had been taken in more, but other than that I love the dress. I wish we could’ve seen the shoes though. And the earrings are very pretty.

      • danielle says:

I agree that she may have wanted to be low key as she was not nominated, but she could have gone simple rather than downright unflattering.

      • Esmom says:

Danielle, ITA. So many choices for someone like her so it’s hard to imagine how or why this thing made the cut!

      • Malak says:

Yes, I definitely like the leg-flashing dress better.

    • Tapioca says:

Another one for “matronly”! Didn’t she sack last year’s stylist over Leg-gate? ‘Cos there could be another one for the chop…

      • Carol says:

Not feeling this look; I completely agree with the matronly comments.

If she indeed sacked her stylist for The Leg controversy, then that was a horrible decision on her part. The problem with The Leg (if you want to call it a problem) wasn’t the dress. That dress rocked! Her stance was the problem because she held the pose too long and therefore moved into mock-worthy territory.

      • John says:

Exactly, Carol, she looked pretty Wow last year, but she popped The Leg and held it over and over and over until even the winner *she* announced mocked her for it.

      • The Original G says:

Jennifer Rade has been her stylist for years and she was not fired.

    • Lucy2 says:

I agree the overall look is matronly. I love the skirt part of the dress, but the top and waist didn’t seem quite right and weren’t very flattering. Hair, makeup, and jewelry were great though.

    • crab says:

I don’t like it either! It’s looks like a total sack dress and should be on an older woman!

    • Godwina says:

      Yup. Hate.

    • lenje says:

That’s what I thought too. But I want the earrings!

    • aang says:

at least her arms are covered, that goes a long way

    • Hubbahun says:

Yep, the dress is horrible :S Her hair looks nice.

    • Sarah says:

Thank you! All the fawning over her and I thought she was one of the worst dressed of the night. As aang says though, at least her arms were covered.

    • queenfreddiemercury says:

I agree Team Golden Girls and Soap Dish (first thoughts seeing this dress) hair and makeup are nice though

      • Tulip Garden says:

Ha! Love Golden Girls and Soap Dish 🙂
Agree that Jolie hair and makeup are very good. Her face is striking as it always is when she is professionally made up.
But, yeah, the dress is not doing her any favors and is matronly.

    • kristen says:

Lovely dress, but for an older woman. Angie hasn’t brought it in years.

    • Merritt says:

Agreed. the second I saw it, matronly was the word that cam to mind.

    • don't kill me i'm french says:

      Yes!yes! Yes!

    • JessMa says:

This dress is way too old for her. It also seems like it doesn’t fit right. I actually think the black dress with the high slit was way better. I think it is unfortunate that Brad can’t seem to get an oscar for his acting. I know some people think he is not deserving, but he has had some great roles. I think he was fabulous in Legends of the Fall, Se7en, Snatch, Fight Club, and Burn After Reading.

    • Decloo says:

Yeah, I’m pretty sure Nancy Reagan wore this to a state dinner back in the 80s.

    • pru says:

I think it’s kind of funny that Angelina Jolie, of all people, is being called matronly. I thought the dress was beautiful and just sexy enough for the role she played at this Oscars.

    • bns says:

I immediately thought of Helen Mirren and Jane Fonda when I saw her in this.

    • Mari says:

Boring. I was afraid I’d be the only one…

    • Malak says:

The dress looks heavy. It looks nicer, sexier from the back.

    • Evi says:

Wow. Exactly what I’m thinking. Helen Mirren style.

    • Zwella Ingrid says:

I really like the dress. I thought she looked beautiful, but I think belting it would have improved it.

    • I thought the dress looked much better in motion, and when she was in the theater, than it does in these pictures. But what I really noticed was that she looked like she was actually enjoying the evening–she really seemed more relaxed, and like she was having fun with it.

  2. lower-case deb says:

she doesn’t take selfies very much i guess, cuz she gave a little wave which is so funny. her kids should get her on snapchat more and learn to take proper selfies 🙂

meanwhile, how amazing is Poitier, btw?

  3. annaloo. says:

    She looked incredible!

  4. len says:

Loved the look but i just wished the sleeves ended halfway. They are too long. Just a minor detail.

  5. LadySlippers says:

This was another dress I don’t love or hate. Although, it seems to be growing on me a bit…

    • LadyMTL says:

Same here. When I saw it on TV last night I was like “Oh girl no!” but now I kinda like it. I still have an urge to hike up the top part a bit and rip off the sleeves but other than that, not bad, lol.

      • Esmom says:

I wouldn’t rip the sleeves off completely — maybe it’s just me but I think a cap sleeve, I’m a sucker for them, would be perfect.

    • SonjaMarmeladova says:

I really hate it. It ooks budget. And her breasts are too big for her frame.

      • zut alors! says:

I think if it looked like this, it would have been better. She has a boxy torso, so she should always find gowns that give her the illusion of a waistline.

        http://www.marieclaire.co.uk/news/celebrity/534867/brad-pitt-and-angelina-jolie-add-sparkle-to-the-berlin-film-festival.html#index=3

The one thing that puzzles me though, is in her pre Brad Pitt days, she always looked so good on the red carpet and movie premiers. Her clothes, hair and makeup were always pitch perfect. Nowadays, she’s more miss than hit.

Just look at her during the Alexander premiere. Magnificent!
        http://www.aceshowbiz.com/events/Angelina+Jolie/DGG-001049.html

      • anotherrandom says:

Thank you! I kept saying that over and over. I think she went too big. She looks almost Dolly Parton-esque with how small her bone structure is.

      • AmandaPanda says:

Agreed re the boobs – I feel terrible saying this, but…they’re too big. They look silly. They’re stopping her from dressing the way she likes to (sacks). Deflate, Angie, deflate!

I suffer from a similar body shape (skinny arms and legs, thick waist) and can confirm that you should NEVER pick a dress that just bunches loosely in like that on the waistline. Either fitted or sack, that’s my rule.

Facially, though, she is just so beautiful. Sigh.

      • deanna says:

        Ladies,

After having had a double mastectomy myself I can share that breast size is not entirely a choice. You work with your surgeon and have to be with in a certain range to center the nipple. Really, it’s a horrible thing to endure, and women should just be supportive of medicine’s ability to create a foob (faux breast plus boob), not what
        size a survivor is…

  6. Cassie says:

    She is stunning!

    • Chinoiserie says:

I looked from the wikipedia and Angelina has been nominated two times but only won once.

  7. Mylene - MontreL says:

i prefer when she cover her arms like that. The dress is nice, Good look.

  8. Eleonor says:

I like that she choose something different from her beloved sac-dresses, but to me that style is a bit dated.

  9. Anna says:

What is Angie’s second Oscar for? I only remember one.
I like this dress on her – she’s one of the few people whom it wouldnt wash out and who wouldnt look like every other starlet in neutral sparkles. My only beef is that the sleeves are about an inch or two too long.

    • lower-case deb says:

the Jean Hersholt humanitarian honorary award, which is oscar-shaped top, but not an acting/movie-related necessarily.

      • Delighted says:

Its not an honorary award. Its a Humanitarian award. The honorary awards are for lifetime achievement of some kind. But her award is the Hersholt humanitarian award (not honorary). Not a lifetime achievement award. Awarded for bringing credit to the industry. Plus, she’s brought credit for over 10 years. “In 2009 the Board of Governors voted to establish an annual event at which it will present its testimonial awards – the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and the Honorary Award.”

    • Tanguerita says:

Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award last year. The first one was for “Girl, interrupted” (I don’t know which one you meant).

      • Anna says:

OOOH. It’s the second one I forgot. She seems young for these kinds of ‘lifetime achievement’ honors but she does do a lot of good work.

  10. Fangirl says:

    Breathtaking !

  11. Katren says:

I don’t think the dress is flattering at all. Her makeup looks good though

  12. Nikollet says:

Agree, today is a good day to be a Brangeloonie!

She looked stunning in that dress, it made her look curvy and beautiful. My highlight of the night would have to be when they played her acceptance speech and she choked up on the last line about her mother – cut to Brad giving her a kiss. So freaking cute!!!

    • Hootysgram says:

So freaking staged….they play off like they are the happiest, most in love couple on the planet….all while looking as smug as humanly possible. He was thirsty for attention last night and was like a kid showing up in every shot he could get his mug in to. I’m over them both!
That bigger rack she’s showing off these days seems to have made her even more smug!

    • Tulip Garden says:

I had never seen that clip and I thought it was good. My only complaint, and this isn’t on Jolie, is that they didn’t acknowledge the other honorary Oscar recipients at all (unless I missed it). I get that Jolie was the only one there and the only one presenting but if it is such an honor (and I believe it is) then aren’t the other recipients due acknowledgement as well?
The Oscars seem to be full of filler. The college students got an acknowledgment and they were introduced for winning their spots in the contest. Would it have been too much trouble to do the same for Steve Martin (whom I adore), Angela Lansbury, and, forgive me but I have forgotten the name of the fourth recipient?

  13. raya says:

That 3rd pic is really pretty, but I’m still surprised at how bad her implants are. They look rock hard. Like something vintage Pamela Anderson would have requested. She could have gone for a more natural look.

    • len says:

I agree, they look unnatural and sort of hard. I thought that it was because they had just been put in, but it has been a while now. Wish she’d gone with a smaller more natural size.

      • Jayna says:

My friend just had both of hers removed, and give Angie a break. My friend had beautiful, natural boobs like Angie, and it was devastating to decide to take both off because she did have cancer in one and had the gene. She said it is so hard because they don’t look like what she had before and is trying to adjust. They take all of your breast tissue out so it’s not the same as getting a regular boob job and that makes them seem a little more unnatural compared to their old boobs. Her doctor told her to err on the side of going a little bigger than what she asked for because she might regret it and she was glad she did. They are still settling.

You know how people on here make fun of the big gaps between boobs in some women’s boob jobs. For the way some women are built, that’s why they go a little bigger to help bridge that gap and have the boobs a little closer. I had a friend getting a boob job go smaller because of her size and her boobs were s far apart the way she was built. She had to go to another doctor and he used a different kind of implant and he told her she had to go bigger to get them closer together. She didn’t go as big as she would have needed to make them the best that way, but she went big enough to give a better cosmetic appearance of having no huge gap between her breasts.

Anyway, people stop judging. This is not an easy science trying to pick an implant size especially when they are taking out all of your natural breast tissue, and I think she looks amazing for all she’s been through and still will have to go through having a hysterectomy.

      • Amelia says:

Breast reconstruction after double mastectomies is a very, very tricky area of plastic surgery.
I highly recommend David Jay’s SCAR Project if anyone would like to see a beautiful series of portraits of breast cancer survivors, and hear about some of their stories.
It’s not easy reading/looking, but very inspiring.
        http://www.davidjayphotography.com/gallerymain.asp?GalleryID=64806&AKey=QNZ9HFXP

      • lucy says:

Those David Jay portraits are BEAUTIFUL, thank you for posting.

I had completely forgotten Jolie had the double mastectomy. Nevertheless, I agree her dress is matronly and unflattering to her, and that the fit and bedazzled embellishments make her breasts look droopy. I also agree they outsize her frame.

      • mayamae says:

It’s a matter of opinion when discussing whether implants are too big for a woman’s frame. Having said that, I personally believe they look more natural the smaller/more average they are. I blame the plastic surgeons primarily for this. I have never heard a story regarding implants that did not include the doctor telling the patient to go larger than they think they want. I’m sure there are just as many women regretting going too large as there are regretting going too small. Plastic surgeons don’t seem to believe there is anything called “going too large”.

    • maynot says:

Angelina is Angelina. Simply stunning. However I have to agree with you. I think she went for a small enhancement after her mastectomy, but she lost her original proportion. Hers were much better. These look like a couple of melons.

    • Buckwild says:

They still seem a bit too big for her frame. She looks gorgeous though.

    • Isadora says:

+1000! Rock hard and too big for her small frame. She is really very slender (a cause for oh so much speculation…) and I can’t understand why she didn’t chose a smaller size.

I think the dress would also have looked better on someone with a smaller chest to avoid the matronly look. I mean, there are so so many dresses that only look good if you can fill them out and then there are a few dresses that actually profit from a smaller bust. You just have to chose right.

      • Esmom says:

Agreed, the top-heaviness of the look is what really takes it into matronly territory.

      • Delighted says:

Some of you women are very mean. How would you like to have people take you apart and comment on your personal body parts? No one can withstand such scrutiny. Everyone is perfect the way they are. You are and so is she. We have what we have. Stop going under her dress with your speculation. Horrible.

    • Mouse says:

Isn’t that what double masectomy implants looks like (serious question)? I always assumed they would look less natural with there being less skin to work with…I have no clue

      • Jayna says:

They are. My friend just had both of hers removed, and believe me it’s not like getting a regular boob job. My friend has been through the ringer with what they have to do for months, putting the tissue expanders in and having them stretching your tissue bit by bit, after a double mastectomy, preparing for the implant down the road, and after listening to her and all this entails and saving the nipples, I’d like everybody on here to go through it and then sit and have everybody judge on how they should look.

My friend says she mourns her real breasts and having no natural breast tissue now, but knows the alternative, either possible death from breast cancer or having had no boob job at all and just scars across her chest, that she is lucky and always tries to look at it that way as she’s adjusting. She did say she second-guessed for weeks after seeing the final result what size she should have gone as they just didn’t look natural and finally let it all go and they are still settling a bit she said. She actually thought at first she should have gone even bigger the way they sat in her chest but is fine now with it. It’s hard like she said when you have naturally gorgeous breasts to try to compare a reconstructed mastectomy to it.

      • Blood&Sand says:

Thank you Jayna for sharing your friends story. She sounds like a brave woman who did what she had to do to stay alive.

Personally, I think Angie looks amazing and she’s obviously gotten her confidence back to wear such a sheer top to a majorly viewed event.

Angie said she had small scars but I wonder if that is possible. There was a woman who posted pictures of her procedures I saw on the dailymail that made me cry from all the damage that was done to her, it was called Under the Red Dress. I hope for Angie that means her scars are under the fold and visible only from under the breast, but I don’t know.

    • Okay–they took all of the fat/whatever else we have filling our breasts, and put implants in. So it’s nothing but skin. Why would anyone think her breasts would look natural–they aren’t natural. They’re fake. And I don’t think they really look all that different–they look great. If it was me, I’d be showing off those puppies every chance I got. I agree with (Esmom???) who said it contributes to the matronly look—it’s hard to pull this kind of look off with a large chest.

      • raya says:

From what I have read there are diffetent shapes and materials available to mimic a more natural look. I believe many actresses and models (especially SI Swim and VS) have these. I’m sure there were fewer options, but still some. These are bad. I read she used the same doc as Heidi Montsomething. Bad call. Plastic surgeons need an artists eye AND a surgeons skills. These look like cyborg boobs. She may have done this preventatively, but she had the time and the means to get a better look. Of course it is entirely possible those melons suit her taste. She has never been particlarly celebrated for elegance or style (award winning wine and handsome husband exepted). Her sense of sexy can be both a little on the nose and off the mark.

      • len says:

Thanks everyone for explaining this! I really didn’t know.

      • @raya
Angelina’s doctor and surgeon was Dr. Kristi Funk, and Dr. Jay Orringer.
        http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20700806,00.html

Heidi Montag’s plastic surgeon (who died shortly after he completed surgeries on her, in a car accident) was Dr. Frank Ryan.
        http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/heidi-montags-plastic-surgeon-dies-2010178

You should look things up before you just start saying stuff like that–it’s easily verifiable.

      • Meme says:

If breast reconstruction is done properly they don’t look fake. Look at Christina Applegate…she had a double mastectomy and her new breasts look natural

      • In that dress, what looks fake about her breasts–other than the fact that they’re not saggy (bc she’s not wearing a bra or any kind of support). We can’t even see her nipples. I am someone who is really bad at telling if someone’s had any type of plastic surgery (it has to be super obvious for me to tell most of the time), and if I hadn’t known any better, I wouldn’t have thought that she had anything done to her breasts (other than the fact that they’re sitting high up w/out a bra). And it’s not like AJ never had big boobs–that was her figure–she was tall, thin, no waist/hips, with big boobs. So I’m honestly not getting it when people say that she chose implants that were bigger than what they were before–her breasts were a little saggy before from breast feeding, but she’s always had big breasts.

      • V4Real says:

Here’s my two cents about Angie’s surgery. I do agree that the docs may not have much to work with after a mastectomy. But keep in mind it’s not like the docs go from removing your breast tissue to sticking in implants. What you guys are forgetting is that there is a process (can’t remember the name and to lazy to look up) that happens in between the two. For a few months the docs inject some type of fluid into the breast wall to increase the breast fat before they insert the implant. If you remember that’s why some people were saying that Angie got her implants too soon. I know this because my co-worker went through all this before Angie. They removed both breast but she went through over a six month period of them injecting her with whatever it is they use to increase the fat in that area. Gradually she went from having nothing but skin to fat that made her look like she had small breasts. After this process then the implants are inserted. So yes, even women who have gone through this can have natural looking implants. AJ just jumped the shark and had her implants inserted too soon.

      • Blood&Sand says:

        VC: ^ couldn’t agree more.

      • yumyum says:

This explanation of reconstruction after mastectomy couldn’t be any more inaccurate. There is no fluid injection that would create subcutaneous tissue as described (think about it, there would be no need for an implant if connective tissue could be created in this manner). Instead, a tissue expander is filled with saline to expand the skin and muscle. This is then swapped for the permanent implant.

      • V4Real says:

@Yumyum didn’t I say I don’t recall the name but I know something is injected into the tissue to make it expands. It takes months to get the desired results. Still doesn’t change what I said about the process in between the mastectomy and the implants now does it? Which is what my coworker had done. I don’t know if it’s a tissue expander or she had something injected. My coworker still went through this process before the implants. I know because she showed me her breast as the fat was expanding. Also it doesn’t chnage my opinion in saying that Angie had her implants inserted to soon because this process takes time.

      • The Original G says:

It’s still early days on the settling of her implants, so even for people who feel the need to be critical on the procedure, etc. might wait a bit before they subject us to another tutorial on “What’s wrong with Angelina’s boobs.”

      • yumyum says:

You didn’t just get the name wrong. You have basic science wrong. All this process does is stretch the skin and muscle. Tissue is NOT magically created. So yeah…this does make this majestic process that you have conjured up incorrect. I also made no mention of Angie. I am simply clarifying that you have grossly misrepresented a medical procedure.

      • Belle says:

I used to work for a plastic surgeon, and unless something has changed, tissue expanders are inserted after the mastectomy (usually right after… same surgery). The patient then has regular post-op visits to gradually fill the expanders with a saline solution. This is to stretch the skin to allow room for implants. It is done gradually, not only to allow the skin time to stretch, but because it can be a painful process. Once the skin has been expanded enough to accommodate implants, another surgery is performed to remove the expanders and add the implants.

Also, they can look quite hard and large at first, but if the proper size is used, they should settle in quite nicely. I think Angie went a bit large for her petite frame, but that’s JMO.

      • V4Real says:

@Yumyum Regardless of if I got the basic science wrong I made a point of saying I didn’t know what it was called and didn’t want to look it up. My point is still valid in that there is a process a person goes through in between the mastectomy and the insertion of the implants. I never mentioned anything about tissue being magically created. I do know that I saw my co-workers breast and they had went from being just skin, to actually having something there.

I wasn’t so far off in saying that fluid is injected because even with the expander liquid is added into it. I do recall her saying something about fluid being injected, so I was pretty much right in saying so. I just didn’t nail down exactly what they were injecting the fluid into.

Another coworker actually had fat removed from her ass to reconstruct her breast after the cancer. Unfortunatley her cancer came back and spread to her stomach and she didn’t survive.

Have we reached the point where everything somebody says on this site has to be exact. The main thing is I was right about the in between process, no matter the correct science of it.

      • Val says:

Would the process be different with someone who is having a preventive mastectomy (thus has healthy tissue) vs someone who already has cancer cells?
This could be what made Angie’s process different to most other peoples’.

(I am just speculating here, correct me if I’m wrong!)

      • Katherine says:

V4Real, please sit down. You posted inaccurate medical information so it would seem as if you had a real basis or some knowledge for criticizing Jolie’s breast reconstruction.

You got called out on it and corrected. Your continual backtracking and double talk changes nothing – you don’t know what you’re talking about. Period.

I’m not even in the medical field and I knew immediately you were talking out of your azz.

      • V4Real says:

@Katherine I am sitting down but thanks for offering.

I was the first one to point out that I didn’t know what it was called. How am I backtracking? I dare you to point that out. Expanders are filled with fluid. Saying that my coworker said that she had fluid injected into her, is not back tracking.

Perhaps you need to relax and read my comment again before you start to make things up in your head. I didn’t criticize Jolie anywhere on this thread so what comments are you reading.

      • TC says:

I would encourage everyone to read (or reread) Angie’s NY Times Op-Ed, “My Medical Choice,” which details the process of her surgeries and includes a timeline of when the reconstruction took place. The first process was the “nipple delay,” followed two weeks later by the complete removal of her breast tissue (major surgery), which was then followed nine weeks later by breast reconstruction.

  14. serena says:

Stunning and amazing as usual! I wouldn’t have minded for a bit of The Leg thou, lol (it was nice and fun).

    • raya says:

You should allow that whichever surgeon completed her chest could have done a more flattering job. The name of the doctor doesn’t change my opinion on the look of the work. But you were absolutely more diligant in  your research.

      • Okay, but you were insulting her by saying that she chose some fool of a doctor who did TEN surgeries on Heidi Montag in a day–pretty much saying that she was an idiot who didn’t know to go to a ‘real’ doctor. She went to the Pink Lotus facility. Why couldn’t you just say that you didn’t like how the doctor did her breasts??? Especially since it took all of thirty seconds to pull up the info on both women.

  15. QQ says:

It was a good-for-her-moment and looked happy and healthy BUT if I’m honest it wasn’t a “punch me in the face this is so amazing”, in fact none of the dresses I’ve seen so far gave me that

    • LadySlippers says:

I adored Sandra’s dress! Amy’s was nice but needed better accessories.

      • QQ says:

You know who i just remember that killed it for me? Kate Fucking Hudson and it pains me to say that that dingbat was looking a gazillion bucks on that dress

      • LadySlippers says:

        @QQ: You’re right — Kate did look
awesome. And I typically hate white/nearly white dresses.

    • Rhea says:

@QQ : ITA. She’s beautiful as always but I still wish she would wore something with a dash of colour for that extra “punch in the face” like you said. And I would like her to do something else with her hair beside colouring it lighter.

@ladyslippers : I also think Sandra was perfect last night. Amy’s dress look similar with J.Law’s just different in colour.

Regarding Benedict, was it just me who was thinking he got similarity in facial when standing next to Gardner last night?

    • Decloo says:

Despite the dress, I think Angie seemed incredibly relaxed and gracious. She was so sweet with Sidney Poitier, holding his arm and walking very slowly with him. When reading his bit he was kind of slow and stilted and it seemed she was at the ready to step in if necessary. Then asking “shall I get this bit?” when he seemed to be stumbling over words at the end.

  16. LaurieH says:

Angelina looked beautiful, but I felt this Elie Saab dress was too mature for her. She is still in her 30’s, yet wore a dress better suited for someone in her 60’s. That being said, I can’t help but wonder if the fact she was presenting with Sidney Poitier somehow influenced her dress selection.

    • prayforthewild says:

I actually wondered that as well, as far as her rather matronly dress went, about her presenting with a legend like him. I know it would affect me and how I dressed, out of respect for his station and age.

  17. Ice Maiden says:

Facially, she’s looking better than I’ve seen her look for ages. But the dress is distinctly underwhelming, and bordering on the frumpy. Never thought I’d say that about an Elie Saab gown but that’s how it is. And I’ll probably get eaten alive for saying this, but Brad is looking distinctly ‘refreshed’.

    • Kim1 says:

So he is refreshed today next week he will be called old and wrinkly.

      • lisa2 says:

anytime they think he looks great it is he is “refreshed”..lol

whatever that man was smokin hot. I saw pics of him going to the press room just gorgeous..

      • Ice Maiden says:

Looks great? Where did I say he ‘looks great’? I don’t think Brad has looked ‘great’ for quite some time now.

Anyway, thanks for proving me correct when I predicted I’d be eaten alive for the type of comments which wouldn’t raise an eyebrow if said about ANY other celeb.

      • The Original G says:

        Eaten alive? Over react much?

    • lithe says:

+Ice Maiden, I agree on all counts. But you know, Angelina is so beautiful that it almost doesn’t matter what she wears.

    • Well if he’s had anything done–no clue, can’t tell–he looks good. I like ‘old, broken down, father of six’ Brad, better than ‘pretty boy’ Brad.

      • Esmom says:

I think he looks good but I gotta be honest, he doesn’t make me swoon the way that pretty boy Brad did.

He still looks better than 99.9% of guys his age and to people who say otherwise I say go to your nearest Little League game and check out the dads. Many of the moms are still hot but the majority of middle aged dads? Not so much, at least in my neck of the woods!

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

The only pretty boy that I ever liked was Ralph Fiennes–he was PRETTY. Other than that–uh, no. My little sister has a crush on Titanic era Leo–I was much more interested in Kate Winslet’s boobs than Leo’s baby face.

And I hear you on average 50 yr old dad’s–in my neck of the woods, most of the men and women who are good looking start to go downhill after 25…it’s pretty bad…we have a lot of drugs and drunks around, so that’s the issue.

But I love older looking men, in general–I don’t know why–maybe because I always looked mature for my age, and everyone else my age looked a lot younger. I remember at 14, in a gas station, being asked if I was filling up my car (w/gas)–and it wasn’t like I was wearing hot pants or anything either.

    • Tulip Garden says:

      @Ice Maiden,
agree that Brad looks “refreshed”. For awhile there, he just look very bloated and also very aged. Simply put, imo, facially his looks have improved dramatically which leads me to believe he has had some kind of cosmetic procedure. Idk why this is even such a big deal to say. Hollywood people do this all the time and Brad is a Hollywood person. I will say I think that I don’t know why judging him to have had work done is judging him harshly. To me, his looks have definitely improved. He’ll never be a “pretty boy” again but why wouldn’t he, especially in his line of work, want to age as well as possible even if *clutches pearls* it means having procedures?

    • Delighted says:

Maybe its simply because she is a mother now of nearing teens and she is aware that she has plenty of riske dressing out there from her younger days and she simply intends to tone it down a bit. Her Spirit awards tux was outstanding but showed nothing. Plus she is doing hard core humanitarian work now. She’s hosting a summit in a few months cosponsored by the UK and the US. She has to walk a much finer line now. Best to err on the side of matronly than to bring embarassment to her serious work and her children. You know that children will call you on showing too much skin.

  18. Teri says:

Lupita owned the red carpet last night and Sandra Bullock came in second. This was a very lovely Mother of the Bride dress.

  19. BendyWindy says:

Is Angelina gaining a bit of (needed) weight? She looks so healthy and glowing. I actually like the top of the dress, it’s the Greek goddess-esque bottom that doesn’t do it for me. But she looked beautiful and happy. Good for her!

    • Jenny says:

Really? I thought Jolie looked more emaciated and fragile than ever, especially in the face. The only “healthy” glow I saw was from the expertly applied makeup on her face. I have no idea if she’s anorexic or just stops eating when she’s stressed but she definitely did not look at all healthy to me, just the opposite in fact. The dress was truly awful and somehow managed to make her emaciated frame look lumpy and big on stage. I usually love Elie Saab’s designs but this was truly ugly and so unflattering. And yes, as so many have pointed out, matronly.

But no matter what Jolie wears and how emaciated she gets she is a stunningly beautiful woman. Her speech about her mother felt real and having lost my own mom (she was also my very best friend) to breast cancer way too soon I can relate to her pain.

  20. babythestarsshinebrite says:

I thought Angelina looked beautiful, as usual. She and Lupita were the lovliest last nite; nothing beats inner beauty. Gosh, I’m a Cate Blanchett fan, but I wish Sandra would have won because she is so gracious and that’s lovely, too.

  21. Senaber says:

She and brad were very cute together. It looked like they were having a lot of fun!

  22. xboxsucks says:

    i am in brangeloonie heaven

    she looked stunning

  23. blue marie says:

While I somewhat like the dress, and she does look beautiful, it’s not the best I’ve seen her look. I was hoping for more drama I guess, like maybe The Thigh of Thunder.

  24. Janet says:

She looks like she put some weight on. Good for her.

  25. the original rachel says:

OK. How the heck did she get her boobs to look like that? I’ve had a mastectomy and my reconstruction looks like two pancakes stapled to my chest. How do I get THAT? That’s all I thought about all night long. Seriously. “Show her boobs again!” I’m developing a disorder. Plastic surgery consult: stat.

  26. lady mary. says:

i enjoyed the part when Ellen was passing out pizza and Angie eagerly took a plate and waited for her turn ,sadly Brad and the pizza boy went over to Kerrry’s side and Ellen was left screaming ,”give Angie her pizza” ,and worst Brad was later on seen chomping on a pizza all by himself

    • I don’t get that–why was Ellen passing out pizza. I don’t really find that funny. I’d be the moron who would get the slice and then hold it, because I’m not sure if I can (or should) eat it.

      • lady mary. says:

i would have done the same ,i actually would have got all conscious and stuffed it in my purse , i bet the room must have started stinking of mozarella and pepporoni ,eh ,thats ellen for u ,nvr understod the selfie thing too ,it was disruptive ,and she seemed to be circulating only around Meryl, sandy ,julia,Angie crowd ,rather than engaging the whole audience ,it was meh ,i enjoyed last years more ,performances were top notch ,there was a smooth flow to the program ,this felt like hey its sleepover tonite at oscars!!

      • V4Real says:

I didn’t like the whole pizza part of the show. It’s like she copied The People’s Choice Award when Kat Dennings handed out cheeseburgers to the audience. I thought it was the Golden GLobes but It was The People’s Choice. Anyways, that was not original.

      • Xantha says:

I thought it was mildly amusing but I see your point. Even though he got a lot of shit for not taking the pizza last night, I don’t blame Leo for passing.

      • Esmom says:

Don’t you think it was all rehearsed?

  27. lisa2 says:

my Brangieloonie flag will wave proudly today.

She looks amazing and he looked fabulous. They were the sexiest couple there. Loved all the pics I have seen of them at the event. They seemed like they were having a lot of fun. I imagine they are all glad it is over. Great night.. heck Great weekend.. lots of pictures to see and so much to read about them.

    Flag waving with such pride

congrats to all the winners.. and of course MY BRAD.. so happy for him and his production company; Deedee and Jeremy.. job well done.

    • LoloL says:

Why didn’t “Your brad” (lol) acknowledge his family like at all. I don’t think he actually forgot to thank Jolie he must not think she deserves a thank you or any acknowledgment.

Enjoyed watching Leto and mathew mc win and thank their families and partner.

      • Josephina says:

Were you this concerned for the other producers to thank their spouses, SO’s, and family? Sheesh.

Brad was loved up the ENTIRE night with Angie… staring at her, kissing her and touching her.

Brad has deliberately played up his celebrity status and played down his celebrity status so that the rest of the cast, director and producers could get their recognition and shine.

        Well played, Brad.

      • TC says:

Brad’s win was part of a producing TEAM, led by Steve McQueen who was also the film’s director. It was not an individual award for Brad, as it was for Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey. Hence the reason he stayed on point THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE AWARDS SEASON with with praise for his producing TEAM, Steve McQueen and Solomon Northup’s incredible story.

The hate just amazes me. You whine about everything Brad and Angie do. But if Brad would’ve acknowledged Angie and his family onstage, then you’d accuse him of stealing the spotlight.

Brad kept the attention off of himself throughout the entire season and stayed in the background. He wanted Steve McQueen, the film’s director, to be recognized for this story, as he rightfully was last night at the Oscars.

      • prayforthewild says:

        +1 What TC said.

      • Sal says:

        Whamo, f*ck off.

    • Sal says:

      Yes. Nods head vigorously. 🙂

  28. MrsBPitt says:

I was disappointed in Angie’s dress…after her sexy, tux look at the other awards show (was it the SAGS ??)…this old lady dress was such a let down…I understand she didn’t want to upstage Brad on his night, but come on, this looked like a mother of the bride dress…her face looked gorgeous as usual, though…

  29. gennline says:

Angelinas dress was beautiful, naughty with that hint of nudeness. All her tats were on show, so you see the real Angelina under a demure dress.
She was never going to go va va voom, she was there in of support of a serious film about a serious subject and she would never want any dress to overshadow that.
Angelina has said that her sexiness is for Brad, so you may never see her in va va voom dress again.
Angelina’s sexiness is in her attitude, she doesn’t have to work at it, that’s why clothes don’t mean that much, she doesn’t need them to be who she is.
So she wears clothes that are appropriate for the occaison, she wasn’t nominated she was there in a supporting role and she looked beautiful as ever.

    • Andrea1 says:

      Word

    • Josephina says:

Very well said and thank you for pointing out the obvious.

Angie wears the dress, the dress never wears her. Her natural beauty and sexiness WORE that dress. She is glowing from contentment and love (for her Brad that won his first Oscar, finally) and it shows up in all of the photos.

    • Shannon1972 says:

Couldn’t agree more!! It would have been really inappropriate to vamp it up considering the subject matter of TYAS. I thought she nailed it last night. She oozes sex appeal and has nothing to prove to anyone. I think that’s what what sets her apart from all the others – she doesn’t have to let everything hang out in order to look alluring. She is truly one of Hollywood’s greatest beauties.

Yep, I’m a brangeloonie. Nothing but respect for these two – they are stars worth admiring (and those are in very short supply these days).

    • TC says:

Great analysis gennline. Very well stated.

  30. Frida_K says:

“I’m planning on writing a series of erotic fiction based entirely on where Angelina was sitting at the Oscars.”

    and

” Oh, today is a good day to be a Brangeloonie.”

Oh, Kaiser! These two statements put such a smile on my face this morning! LOVE IT!!

And yes, it is a GREAT day to be a Brangeloonie (I am a proud one, natch).

    😀

  31. Marianne says:

I feel like it isn’t fitted correctly.

  32. Andrea1 says:

Angelina looked great she was there to support Brad and not there as a nominee herself her face is exquisite I just wonder how she does it. Congrats to TYAS. And just look at Brad he looked very hansome and doesn’t even look 50 at all. How does he do it. Kudos to them both. And I am proud to be a jolie pitt fan.

    • Josephine says:

I agree – she wasn’t nominated for an acting award this year, and the dress reflects that. She was there to support Brad, and she did that well enough. Her face and hair look gorgeous, and I’m used to the fact that her dresses are always pretty sedate and never really wow.

  33. Maya says:

Angelina looks healthy and gorgeous – she obviously didn’t want to steal the show from Brad and 12 years a slave cast and crew and she succeeded – her dress was classy and Oscar worthy. Despite her trying to melt into the crowd Angelina was still voted one of the best dressed of the night by several critics and millions of people who saw her.

Angelina will definitely be nominated for Best Actress for Maleficent and Best Director for Unbroken next year so she will bring it on. I can already picture her in green during Maleficent promotions in May as Maleficent is green.

PS: did anyone see the tweet/snark Chelsea Handler poster during Oscars about how Angelina is going to adopt Lupita next?

    • LoloL says:

I don’t know about maleficent but she’s coming for that Best Director nod. Lolol

      • JessMa says:

Hm, I actually think she has a better chance in the actress category. She is a good actress. But the movie she directed bombed. It lost millions and has terrible scores on imdb and rottentomatoes. On the other hand this second movie looked better based on the trailer.

    • Josephina says:

      I heard about it.

Chelsea needs to move on, like her BFF. There is no excuse for her behavior.

      • lisa2 says:

Chelsea wants Angie to give her attention. Nothing more nothing less. for someone she claims to dislike so much she can’t keep her mouth shut. Bitch wants to be Angie’s friend.. But but Angie has never spoken her name..

STFD Handler.. stick to you girls girls.. Angie is a woman.

      • prayforthewild says:

Chelsea really needs to move forward, if she can, and start doing more than making fun of people who have actually done something with their lives. Her shtick is old and as tired, just like her.

  34. floretta50 says:

Angelina Jolie looked stunning as usual this is not the first time Angie have dressed matronly, I remember that green and then that blue that she wore at different Oscar events. Personally, I think that the 12 years a slave and company was pushing Lupita Nhogo. I am not familiar with how a movie company operates. Have any or you stop to wonder who is footing Lupita’s wardrobe bill, i don’t mean to be rude but I don’t think she has the money for those expensive clothes? Isn’t it Brad Pitt company? Sometimes you have to play the matronly role, Jolie knows how she can turn out and turn them on when she is good and ready.

    • LoloL says:

This dress looks a lot like one she’s already worn. I think.

As for this being a Good day to be a brangeloonie?

I don’t think it’s so good when pitty doesn’t acknowledge jolie when he wins the biggest award of his career. Also that was the happiest pitty has ever looked… His happiness is winning awards. Too bad he has to share his win with the real producers.

How does one produce anyway? 12yas was filming at the same time as Wwz so it’s not like he was on set doing work.

When Ben affleck forgot to thank his wife it wasn’t a good day for his fans.

I enjoyed watching mathew Mc and Leto win and acknowledge their families. very unselfish men and mathew is a good partner and father 😉

      • The Original G says:

Pitt was acknowledging the win of the film as a team. He gave Kudos to Steve McQueen and stayed out of the way of upstaging the cast and the film’s message.

Real producers? Steve McQueen thought he was a real producer, the Academy thought he was a real producer and Paramount thought he was a real producer.

Why shouldn’t he be happy to win an award?

There’s room for everyone. If you need to use him to express your antipathy to Angelina, too bad.

      • Bea says:

Since this seems so difficult for you – Brad gave his speech as one of the producers – you know there were more than just him which was appropriate. Since McQueen was not given an opportunity to express himself as the LONE director, he took that opportunity then.

It’s ridiculous that you people are harping on this – believe it or not people in long-term, loving relationships do not run around proclaiming their love every 5 minutes.

It’s called being a secure adult. Not a love-struck teenager who wants the world to know that someone, anyone loves them.

      • Maggie says:

He threw them a cheque…that’s it. LMAO at his speech. He was almost peeing himself with glee.

      • Maya says:

@Maggie: at least he gave a cheque and uses his own money to produce a movie and that movie is universally praised and now has given him an Academy Award as well.

Unlike your idol who never produces anything and will never win an Academy Award – let alone get nominated.

So hard to keep the bitterness and jealousy away isn’t it? Well you just tell yourself that Brad only gave money and is gleeful of winning. The rest of the world – the Academy Award, critics, fans etc knows that he did a lot more.

      • Maggie says:

Maya please tell me who my idol is? It’s not some over rated celebrity I can telll you that!

      • Bea says:

Funny how everyone who is anyone in HW knows that Brad did more than “threw a cheque” but the nobodies who are no one here think they know everything.

      • Katherine says:

Brad didn’t finance the film. That’s easy enough to learn before you post nonsense.

      • If all Brad did was throw a check at the movie, I find it hard to believe that Steve McQueen would go out of his way to specifically mention Brad (instead of just saying thank you to all the producers), and thank him first before all of the other producers (Jeremy, Dede, et al)…..plus when you just throw a check at a film, that makes you an ‘executive producer’, not a ‘producer’….

      • TC says:

You can’t just “throw a check” at a movie and expect to win an Academy Award if the movie gets nominated for Best Film. The process to win an Oscar as a producer requires a pretty hefty submission of all producing responsibilities on the film: from development to pre-production to production and then post-production — as the film producers are the only crew members who are involved in all four areas, and very rigid requirements have been put in place for eligibility. Plan B was most instrumental in the getting TYAS made, as Steve McQueen has reiterated ever since TIFF in September.

And this is probably why Brad didn’t submit himself for a producing nod on the film The Departed. The eligibility is rigid and Brad’s participation probably didn’t meet AMPAS requirements.

      • Sal says:

Maggie, Aniston is the most over-rated celebrity there is. She is nothing but trash, shes on the level of the Kardashians. So deal with it.

      • The Original G says:

The film was financed and distributed by New Regency through Fox Searchlight.

      • Janet says:

Awww, Maggie, yesterday must have been a bad day for you, what with Brad winning an Oscar and he and Angie being lionized at the ceremonies, while your poor idol and her boytoy weren’t even there and couldn’t wangle an invitation to any of the after-parties.

      • Maggie says:

Why are you ppl bringing up Aniston? FFS! What I said was the truth by the way. I cant stand Pitt. He’s so over-rated as an actor. That’s my opinion and I’m not alone in thinking that. Cant stand him!

  35. Mabs says:

She’s too young to look this old. Too matronly. It would’ve been beautiful on a 60-plus celebrity…she could have helped Streep with that dress, but wear it herself? Bad choice.

  36. The Original G says:

Oh, “the Leg” was funny. Nothing to get over.

Her hair and make-up flawless. The dress doesn’t fit. Sleeves too long, hem wrong, the bodice baggy, the waist in the wrong spot. Still she’s beautiful and a great night for her and Brad!

The whole Ellen/Pizza thing? Not at the Oscars…..no. Thanks goodness everyone was a good sport about it.

I’m going to stop watching the E! red carpet show. Tedious and stupid.

  37. queenfreddiemercury says:

The dress looks like a combo of Betty White or Bea Arthur (rip) would have worn to an event on the Golden girls or that scene at the end of soapdish where the Mom (sally field and her daughter both wear the same dress in different colors accept their awards) I guess what I’m saying is the dress is dated and looks like it should be worn by someone older. By the makeup and hair is nice.

(it does bring me warm feels thinking of soapdish and golden girls though) That’s a nice thing.

  38. Andrea1 says:

Wow So many mean comment about her boobs thought people would be over that by now. Smh

  39. Meme says:

She chose the ugliest Eli Saab dress she could find. And her breasts look ridiculous. I doubt her stylist told her to stick that chicken leg out like that last year.

  40. ToodySezHey says:

Umm….wasnt Brad Pitt already an Oscar winner for The Departed. Didnt Plan B produce that film as well and didnt it win Best Picture?

  41. toto says:

The jealous Chelsea Handler managed to tweet about Angelina adapting Lupitaand people lashed out at her on twitter for the raciest she is .

    • Just looked at her twitter–she also made an incest joke about Bruce and Laura Dern (why Laura kept holding her father’s hand), and hashtagged it with Woody Allen. Gross.

You’d think that she, of all people, wouldn’t want the Oscars to be about Angelina–so why would she even bring her up? All Angelina did was support Brad and present an award. It’s one thing to make a joke to your friends in your living room (or on Celebitchy 🙂 ), but quite another to do it in a professional forum i.e. she’s a comedian on twitter.

    • Bea says:

You really cannot take anything that bitter hag says seriously – especially since I’m sure she had a little encouragement to go after Angelina by one of her has been x-list “Friends”

    • TC says:

Well, I think at the end of the day Handler’s getting exactly what she wants — attention. Yes, it’s unfunny in my opinion, but she gets press every time she opens her mouth about Brad or Angie or someone in the spotlight (which was the case with Laura and Bruce Dern since he was nominated for Best Actor last night). She’s an insult comic who coattails off of more famous people. That’s how she’s sustained her career. Not something to be proud of in my opinion.

    • willowtree1921 says:

In my foolish youth, i used to be a fan of handler’s…then i reread one of her books and read and i qoute “if i was raped, i wouldn’t complain about it. instead i’d turn it into lovemaking and let my lover seduce me.” ok, so not an exact qoute but the general gist…i run a women’s empowerment group on my campus and reading this qoute made me sick. and more than a little ashamed at how i’d clamor to get her books….(i used to not be as feminist as i am now). wretched woman.

  42. Val says:

Looks matronly and ages her. Underwhelming in my opinion.

  43. Sassy says:

The dress is fug and matronly. Her hair looks nice though.

  44. Shannon1972 says:

They are such a gorgeous couple that it is almost painful to look at them. Angie looks good in anything, and I thought that the dress was a clever way to show cleavage after her surgery without having everything hanging out. I thought it was sexy.
She absolutely owns everything she puts on.

  45. SayWhat? says:

It’s Lupita’s night. Therefore I think the outfit is appropriate so not to overshadow Brad and Steve’s other girl. Who knows??

    • lower-case deb says:

her dress is actually remarkably similar to the dress of one of the producers/cast (?), pictured here in the far left, behind Lupita.
      http://www.independent.co.uk/incoming/article9165021.ece/ALTERNATES/w620/Brad-Oscars-Acceptance.jpg

same beige color, long sleeves, perhaps even the same designer.

so maybe it’s Angelina’s aim: to blend in with the TYAS crew.

plus, AJ’s dress is last season (Fall 2013). if AJ really wants to she can get current or future fashion piece, right? so i think it’s a deliberate choice by AJ.

      • TC says:

That’s Sarah Paulson, one of the cast members. She played Mary Epps, Michael Fassbender’s vengeful wife in TYAS. She’s also in American Horror Story.

Yes, it is very similar to Sarah’s. Very good points you made on the dress. I agree it was a deliberate choice as well. Angie wasn’t trying to be the center of attention last night.

  46. Calcifer says:

Angelina has and will probably always have the most beautiful face. Also last night. That being said, I don’t like big, overly coiffed hairdos on her. I really really loved the natural little chignon in which she wore her hair at the Golden Globes 2013. I also always like a ponytail on her (though that wouldn’t be suitable for the Oscars). And regarding color: she looks amazing in jewel tones, like the scarf she wore at LAX when returning from Australia. I appreciate that she tends to keep things simple when dressing, but black sack dresses (SAG Awards 2014) and matronly beige glittery dresses (Oscars) don’t do her any favors.

  47. Bea says:

I think she chose her dress based on her place at the event. She wasn’t going to look anything but elegant and sedate while presenting with Mr. Poitier. She had a proper interpretation of what she was there to do. Hanging out or over a dress while with him would have been the height of rudeness.

She was graceful and very respectful of Mr. Poitier, especially given his physical limitations and her covering for him when he couldn’t was dignifed and gentle.

I think she did a lovely job.

    • TC says:

      Well said Bea!

    • Tulip Garden says:

I also thought that she did a gracious job with Mr. Poitier however being gracious and dressing appropriately doesn’t exclude dressing well. In a lot of people’s opinions on here, including mine, she simply looked matronly. That doesn’t take away from her accomplishments or the good job she did onstage.

  48. shellybean says:

I don’t know. I’m not a fan of the sheerness and bead placement on the bust area of this dress.

  49. The Original G says:

Producers are routinely fetted for the Oscar win of Best Film . They’re the producer. For a recent example, see Ben Affleck and Argo last year.

Angelina is the 34th recipient to be awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. It’s wasn’t just tailor made for St. Angie

As for why all the media seem to disagree with you, maybe it’s because you haven’t clue what you’re talking about?

EDIT: Oh, I see the post I’m responding to has been deleted.

  50. Maritza says:

They looked really nice, her dress was perfect for her and she even looked like she gained some needed pounds.

  51. Maggie says:

Looks like she raided Betty White’s closet. Not a standout in my opinion. On another note if you want to see what breast augmentation looks like google Beth Chaanga. Brave woman!!!

    • Maya says:

Women like you are a disgrace. So what if Angelina choose to have implants after her mastectomy – just like thousands of women who did exactly like her. That doesn’t make Angelina and them less courages and brave.

In your hatred for Angelina you are showing your ugly personality by attacking her mastectomy and millions of other women. I am hundred percent sure that Beth Chaanga would be horrified over the way you use her story to attack Angelina.

      • Maggie says:

Are you crazy? I’m not attacking anyone. Having this surgery is an absolute horror. I’ve witnessed it through some very close friends. I can only have the greatest of sympathy for them. Shame on you for turning this into something ugly!!!

      • Maya says:

@Maggie: I am sorry Maggie – I took my anger on you for someone else’s comment. My colleageu read your comment and said a horrible comment about mastectomy and implants and since I couldn’t take my anger on her I took it on you.

I am sincerely sorry for turning your innocent comment into something ugly.

  52. Nikita says:

    Angelina grabs brads a$$ haha
    Have you seen this?

  53. Rachel says:

Angelina is not a double oscar winner.

    • The Original G says:

She won for Girl Interrupted and was awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award last fall.

    • TC says:

No, but she has two of them. One for Supporting Actress in Girl, Interrupted and one as the 2013 recipient of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian award in which Kathryn Bigelow (Producer & Director of The Hurt Locker) submitted her for.

Her first Oscar was “won” in competition. The other, the Jean Hersholt award, was “bestowed.”

      • Katherine says:

The Jean Hersholt award is nominated by the entire AMPAS membership and then voted upon by the Board of Governors. So it’s not exactly “bestowed” out of the blue – there are multiple nominees and there is voting by a diverse segment of the Academy.

      • TC says:

Katherine – Yes, I realize this is how the Governors Awards are decided. My point was that Angie’s Jean Hersholt honor was not “won” in competition, and a completely different process than her Best Supporting Actress “win.” Hence, I was debunking the semantics of the double Oscar “win” comment postulated by Rachel.

  54. KateBush says:

I thought her face looked beautiful, and I like her lighter hair.
Her face looks fuller lately which really suits her.
I wasn’t a fan of the dress overall, for me it was the waist area which looked unfinished….! I think it would have looked better with a belt maybe.

Brad I can’t comment on because I always get told off! Lol

    • Jayna says:

That’s what I thought about the waist. It almost just looked like it had some elastic in this waistline and nothing else, like a cheap dress would that needed a belt. She always looks beautiful but the dress looked dated looking to me. But it was a tasteful gown, not ugly by any stretch of the imagination. Just not her best. But Angie never looks bad in any gown at the Oscars. She hasn’t pulled a Julia Roberts, who rarely gets it right except the time she knew she was probably going to win an Oscar and wore that vintage Valentino gown and looked like she was going to the Oscars for once in her gown choice.

  55. mar says:

I hate the dress, but to me, her and Julia Roberts won for best face. Both of their faces were glowing and both showed off their great smiles all night long.

  56. JenniferJustice says:

I like this dress but it is rather odd-looking at the waiste. I fear she has limited her fashion with the new giant boobs. It’s difficult to dress in a tailored-style with a huge rack and small hips.

  57. LAK says:

Kaiser, you know how much irritation AND wiglet fun kate middleton’s hair gives me [and others i presume]. i wish she’d take a leaf out of Angelina’s book on how to wear her hair down and long since it seems that is never going to change.

  58. Camille (The Original) says:

Honestly, Angelina’s dress wasn’t my fav, but she does look flawless. Her face is everything. So incredibly beautiful! And what a hot and talented duo these two make. Truly a ‘Hollywood Royal power’ couple if ever there was one.

Congratulations to Brad on winning his 1st Oscar!

  59. Kelly says:

I prefer the Leg to be honest

  60. Jayna says:

It’s a real disappointment reading about the obvious rift between John Ridley, the scriptwriter, who won for best adapted screenplay, and Steve McQueen, the director, who went up to accept for the Best Movie. It is said it might be because McQueen wanted a co-writing credit for the screenplay b because he usually gets one. But they didn’t acknowledge each other at the Oscars. McQueen barely clapped when his own movie won for best adapted screenplay it’s been reported as Ridley went up. Ridley, when he went up, didn’t even acknowledge any of the TYAS cast or Brad on the way up to accept, and hugged someone else in another movie. I wonder if Brad was pushing him to give McQueen co-writing credit. McQueen has ignored Ridley in his acceptance speeches, I guess, too.

What a shame that egos get out of hand when it’s about celebrating all the wins they had last night, three important wins, Best Movie, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress.

    • Did McQueen co-write it though???

      • Jayna says:

I doubt it. He probably threw in a little bit and Ridley just didn’t think he deserved a co-write credit just for McQueen’s ego and the feud started. I could be way off. I’m only surmising that, but I was comparing it to songwriting in my head. Sometimes the pop stars throw in a little something and demands a co-write on the song so they can brag they write their own songs when, in fact, the song was written by the songwriter.

    • mayamae says:

I sensed a little tension as well. The scriptwriter walked right by McQueen and they didn’t even look at each other. Plus, the scriptwriter said the movie wouldn’t have been made without (I can’t remember, not Pitt), and McQueen said it wouldn’t have been made without Brad Pitt. I definitely noticed.

      • TC says:

Not sure about the overall backstory, but John Ridley, the credited screenwriter on TYAS, was naming all the Plan B folks in his acceptance speech: Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner & Jeremy Kleiner. But he stumbled over Dede’s last name calling her Dede Kleiner before correcting himself.

    • andypandy says:

I’m actually instinctively more on McQueens side with this one I do believe he genuinely had some input especially after fnding out that Ridley wrote that God awful screenplay for that God Awful Movie ” Red tails about the Tuskegee airmen

McQueen may have an ego but based on his past work Shame etc and his camraderie with the cast and crew and his willingness to give credit where its due I dunno more inclined to fee that its Ridley who is being the jerk

  61. Paige says:

For all Brangeloonies. Let your panties melt.

  62. TWINK says:

Why would you even notice the Lizard (Batch) when you have that hunk of a man (Brad) next to you?!?! She looked stunningly beautiful.

  63. Jaxx says:

You know, I’m kinda shocked it’s lasted this long. I just never saw her with Brad Pitt, of all people. To me, a bigger mismatch than BillyBob. But it has lasted, and I am convinced they really love each other. Maybe not gaga in love anymore, but their body language looks solid. Respect. Admiration for each other’s achievements. Bonded. Who knew?

    • I’m really wondering how I would have reacted, if I had been old enough to actively follow gossip back in 2005. Because I’m just *so* used to them being together. When I was young, I knew who Angelina was (by sight, not her name) because Tomb Raider was one of the first action films that I saw as a bigger kid–I think I was 9 or 10 when I watched it. And then I saw a picture of both of them at the Cannes film festival–and I sorta knew who Brad was. But I’ve never known him as anything other than ‘Brad Pitt, father of six, partner to Angelina Jolie, founder of the Make It Right Foundation, etc’–I think it’s interesting to see how far HE’S come, and how it’s not too late to literally get off the couch and do something–something that interests YOU, not necessarily what’s cool or humanitarian.

    • Janet says:

I think they have developed a sense of deep happiness and contentment with each other, although I suspect there is still some gaga there too.

    • Sal says:

      Well said. +2 billion.

    • jeranel says:

I think their relationship is what it is. But I do not believe in that fairytale “love that knows no bounds” crap. I think there was a time in their relationship where they both seemed like they were just on autopilot (the last few years up till recently actually) but they seem much more content now than they have in a while. Maybe because they are both getting what they want from the public and as long as everything is ok there, they are ok period.

  64. willowtree1921 says:

They are such a beautiful couple, they really are. Not just for superficial reasons but because they seem to have a relationship that went from lust to real, honest love. She is a lovely woman, inside and out. say what you will about her past but to deny the good she has done around the world would be extremely hard (although i’m sure someone will rise to the challenge). I really love her lips…they’d look ridiculous on my baby face but i’ve always been envious of fuller lips (i mean, no one’s ever complained about them but me but still)…

  65. pnichols says:

I know I will catch holy hell for this but I do not like this dress. I think her chest looks weird, and the waist. Idk. Sooooorry because I do love her!!!

  66. Dirty Martini says:

No one will ever say anything that makes me change my mind about her.

She’s all I ever wanted to be.

OK seriously. SHe’s gorgeous. SHe’s smart. She’s a humanitarian. She loved her mom. She loves her kids. Her adopted and birth kids the same, and she can’t tell the difference between them.

    She loves her man.

OK she has daddy issues. So she’s human too.

Just love her no matter what.

    • TC says:

Nice pic of Jolie and Cumby, with Chiwetel’s girlfriend and Cate Blanchett’s husband, Andrew Upton, looking on.

  67. Kosmos says:

Her larger breasts actually make her look a bit matronly, especially in this kind of a cut, so right, not really the right style for her…..

  68. hayley says:

Pitt’s body language is interesting. He is pulling his pelvis away from her in those pictures. In the top pick you could fit a cow in between them.

    • lisa2 says:

Well there are tons of pictures and links of them very affectionate and love up. So if you want to focus on that ONE picture enjoy.

      I’ll focus on the others.

    • Bea says:

Maybe he knew if his “pelvis” was too close to her, the media shots would have been quite different.

I love how everyone is an expert at body language and this relationship.

God, I love my husband more than my luggage (and he loves me) but we don’t feel the need to be glued together 24/7 anymore – it’s called being grown-ups.

    • Ennie says:

Somehow in the last years they have managed to make 3 children, o don’t worry!

  69. Janet says:

Interesting. Laney reported that Maddox was with Brad and Angie at the Governor’s Ball after-party. Wonder why he wasn’t sitting with them at the Oscars?

  70. Francis says:

Angelinia was stunning at the Oscars. Her beauty’s beyond reproach, IMO, she’s just one of the most beautiful actresses to ever In Hollywood. She’s up there with Grace Kelly,Vivien Leigh,Hedy Lamar.
She and Brad look totally united in love and family life. Angelina helped make Brad a better man and he helped make her a better woman. No way Brad would have grown as a man the way he has if Jenn was his wife still, IMO Jenn just doesn’t go very deep emotionally.
I wonder if Jenn Anniston looks at them and cries sometimes?

    • Ennie says:

I really think that she would roll her eyes when she sees them. AJ and BP are and do things that she is kind of lazy to try to do or be.
I think that what she (OR HER PUBLICIST!) misses is the higher status she used to have. You know? be right there in the world’s most famous selfie?

  71. Jade says:

I loved how Kate Hudson looked so I thought she killed it for the Oscars.

I only started liking Brad when he got older as pretty boys don’t really appeal to me. That being said, I like Brad but I love Angie. That dress is not her best but she still looks beautiful. When she gets it very right, she just commands the entire red carpet. She is definitely not the best actress but she is truly a movie star. That she also happens to be a dedicated mother and humanitarian is admirable.

I’m a bit wary of Hollywood couples who seem so lovey dovey but I still wish them the best always.

  72. Paige says:

So many beautiful pics. Absolutely stunning couple. 🙂

  73. Helena Hand-Basquet says:

Maybe it’s just the weird angles, but it looks like Angelina Jolie is wearing a half-wig. Pretty though.

  74. TOPgirl says:

She looks great! She seems a little tired but still always beautiful. Her body can wear almost anything and she still looks beautiful!

  75. jeranel says:

Seems to me that their happiness it dependent on winning oscars and receiving accolades from the public.

  76. Hi there, yes this paragraph is really pleasant and I have learned lot of things
    from it regarding blogging. thanks.
