Tom Selleck has been married 26 years and still leaves his wife love notes

"Killers" Los Angeles Premiere - Arrivals
For all the stories of celebrities cheating, lying about it, and eventually breaking up (I’m looking at you, Goop and the Pinkett-Smiths) there are the rare success stories. We have couples like Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson (25 years), Bryan Cranston and Robin Deardon (24 years), and famously unmarried Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell (30 years, can you believe it?). You can add Tom Selleck and his wife of 26 years, British born Jillie Mack, to that list. The Enquirer had a rare feel good piece about the couple’s relationship and how they keep it hot after all this time. I’m sure this is embellished, but that’s just the cynic in me. Tom and Jillie’s relationship sounds so romantic that I had to share it with you.

The still-handsome 69-year-old actor and his second wife, British-born beauty Jilly Mack, 56, have been enjoying marital bliss since 1987 – because they made a pact to never fight.

“We decided long ago that fighting was a waste of time,” a pal quotes Tom as saying. “So we said that if we had a difference of opinion about something, we would sit down over a cup of tea or a meal and talk it through.

“Jillie has a great sense of humor, so our talks often end with both of us laughing, and as they always say, laughter is the best medicine.”

The lovebirds live with their 25-year-old daughter, Hannah – a professional horse show jumper – on a 65 acre avocado ranch in Ventura County, California. And Jillie appreciates what a catch she has in her husband – he’s both handsome and a hopeless romantic.

“Tom dotes on Jillie,” said a source. “He gets up early every morning, makes her a cup of tea and takes it to her before she gets out of bed.”

He also leaves little love poems he’s written around the house for her to find while he’s in New York every other week filming “Blue Bloods” adds the source.

“And he’s constantly texting her sexy messages. He’s also on a first name basis with the local florist because he’s always sending her flowers.”

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, April 14, 2014]

The article goes on to say that they have their own interests so when they do get together “the sparks fly.” Damn.

Can you believe Tom Selleck is 69 freaking years old?! He’s my dad’s age and so help me I still would. I would say his wife is a lucky bitch, but she probably puts up with a lot of his crap too. I’m not buying that everything is roses in their relationship, but it sounds like they’ve worked out a nice way to communicate and to show appreciation and love for each other daily. This was probably the sweetest story I read all week.

He is the exception for sure. So many men don’t realize that it’s more difficult to stay in one relationship than to have many many many.

  2. blue marie says:

I knew there was a reason I still liked Magnum, good for them.

  3. chloe says:

I love Tom, I think he get’s more handsome as he ages.

  4. Serenity says:

This is a sweet story. It always makes me feel happy when I read about long term couples or partners who make it work and who love each other very much along the way.

  5. GiGi says:

I love him so much. And his wife’s body is insane!

    • Suzanneg444 says:

But her face would stop an 8 day clock.!

      • Jaded says:

I saw her in person – I live in Ontario and they have a huge place in Burlington on the waterfront, not far from my town. I was shopping in a Whole Foods there one day and she came in alone. She’s not the least bit ugly and that comment is mean – we can’t choose what we look like. She has an elfin kind of prettiness and is very fit – she was a professional dancer appearing in the New York cast of Cats when they met. For him it was love at first meeting and he pursued her tirelessly. He’s often said that her sense of humour is one of the things that really attracted him to her.

Kudos to them, they’re the kind of Hollywood love story that sets an example for all those multi-married, philandering famewhores who couldn’t keep a relationship going with a pet rock.

      • someone says:

        @Jaded

        omg i’m from burlington too!!!

      • ann carter says:

she’s very, very attractive. inside and out. maybe you should think about trying that?

      • Azurea says:

Me, too! Though I live in Hamilton now. I didn’t know a Whole Foods was open there!

      • Jaded says:

Clarification – I meant the Whole Paycheque in Oakville, where I live – well it’s nice to see some local fellow CB-ers here!!

      • Belly says:

In your opinion. However, she has a successful 26 year marriage to Tom Selleck, and you don’t.

      • rlh says:

@Suzanneg444: I’m with you. And I don’t think she has a killer body; I think she looks like an 11 year old boy and I thought that when they first got together. I have always found her physically unappealing.
It is not mean to state one’s opinion of another person looks on A GOSSIP BLOG! All this shaming for saying, anonymously, what we think of someone’s looks is ridiculous.
That being said I don’t give a damn about looks. I am attracted to the inner person. And someone who makes me laugh, whether physically attractive or not, will move right up to the top of my list.
And I always liked Tom as an actor. He has a very pleasant screen presence.

      • Rascalito says:

Yayyy Burlington! I grew up in Hamilton, just next door lol. ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. PunkyMomma says:

I can’t believe he’s 69! And buy, you sure can tell Jilly’s a dancer. Such a refreshing story – good for them!

  7. mettelray says:

Well Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick should also be mentioned.. 26 years and going strong it seems. So good for those who last!

    • mayamae says:

Ron Howard and wife – 39 years.
Henry Winkler and wife – 36 years.

Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward – 50 years at his death. I hesitated before including a relationship beginning with adultery, but they did last 50 years, and Tom Hank was listed by Kaiser.

  8. paola says:

I had a teacher that looked exactly like him. He was soooo handsome and us kids used to call him Tom Selleck. He had a soft spot for me and all the girls in my class were jelous! It was such an innocent thing..but hey, after a few years I went on a holiday in Hawaii and while I was sunbathing my friend elbowed me and there he was! The real Tom Selleck! I felt so frickin’ embarassed because in my head my teacher was looking at me in my bikinis. Of course he wasn’t even looking in my direction.
Anyway..he is the best, so charming and such a private person. He would make a great teacher too. I would still hit at 69. I’d cringe and hit because he’s as old as my father. Hit and cringe. Hit and cringe. ohh man.

  9. Jen34 says:

I am always skeptical when I read stories like this. I will give them the benefit of doubt, however, because I don’t ever remember hearing anything bad about them. Plus, if their grown daughter lives with them, they must get along well enough.

    • aquarius64 says:

Those are the Hollywood marriages that tend to last – the ones you don’t read about in the tabloids every other week, no matter what the reason. I think the two of them met on his show Magnum P.I. Still can’t believe Selleck is 69 years old.

  10. Eleonor says:

    Wait 69??? I would have said early 60′ !!!!

  11. PrettyTarheelFan says:

Nope, can’t do it. It’s adorable, but in that “aww, parents are still in love” way. My dad looks EXACTLY like Tom Selleck. He is now bald, but 6’4″, mustache, the long dimples, the whole thing. He used to get mistaken for him a lot if he was wearing a ball cap. My mom has guarded him like a Doberman her whole life.
I also look almost exactly like my dad so now ya’ll know…I look like Tom Selleck without a mustache. ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Shelby says:

They make a very cute couple, I’m happy for them!
    I’ve had a crush on him since I was a little girl…heehee!

  13. TG says:

Tom Sellick may be the only hairy guy I would let in and hit it. I still remember this Magnup PI days and he holding that woman in a bathing suit in the water as the show came on each week. Gosh those were the days.

  14. eliza says:

Always have liked him. Good for them.

  15. Christin says:

Tom has always seemed like a solid person. When he hit it big in the early 1980s, he apparently had an amicable relationship with his ex and her son Kevin, whom he adopted. He’s kept his personal life relatively private, and I respect that.

  16. Illyra says:

Awww. Not sure why because I’m pretty unfamiliar with Selleck, but this post made me tear up a little. Very sweet.

Also: DAMN, he IS handsome!! Not “for his age” either, he’s just plain good-looking.

  17. Jayna says:

    Sixty-nine? Unbelievable. He’s a robust man, so still a virile-looking man.

  18. Bucky says:

He’s 69?!?!?! My dad is the spitting image of Tom Selleck, seriously, so I always assumed they were close in age, but my dad is 55. Damn, Selleck looks amazing for 69.

  19. Erm says:

    Awww. And 69?!

  20. jess says:

It seems the older Hollywood generation seem to have longer relationships. I guess its because they dont really go out looking for publicity or the public doesnt really have interest in their personal lives so the tabloids leave them alone.

    • Trek Girl says:

It only appears to be that way, especially since they are older. A lot of them did the same or similar things that younger stars are doing now.

  21. Marmaduke45 says:

Holy shit, 69?!?!?!? Duuuuude. And his wife?? I’m 10 years younger than she is…that I could look that good. They’re just a great looking couple.

  22. GeeMoney says:

It’s nice to hear about a relationship that has lasted for so long… kudos to them, and he looks DAMN good for 69.

And who cares whether or not she had to put up with his crap… he had to put up with hers too. Relationships (whether someone is famous or not) are not all one sided, people.

  23. Teri says:

Wow, 69??? He’s looks at least 10 years younger. And good for them for finding ways to keep the spark alive. It seems that they don’t take each other for granted and really work at it. Nice!

  24. kpist says:

Does she remind any else of Jennifer Love Hewitt?

  25. k miss says:

My Magnum, still my all time favorite show.

  26. bluhare says:

She’s 56 and can still wear a dress like that. Wow.

I’m probably biased (see posting name), but I wish he’d let his natural hair through.

    • Jayna says:

She was a performer in the Cats musical in London when he saw her on stage and fell in love. So as a dancer, she probably kept that up over the years, because her body and legs are great.

    • Paige says:

      Dancers have the best bodies.
Bluhare! So agree about the hair. On his current show ‘blubloods’, his hair color is so jet black it is ridiculous …especially his brows and mustache-you can’t look away… look at his female peers on 80’s tv, suzanne sommers is scary looking. Good on him not going Burt Reynolds on his face.

      • clare du lune says:

Agree he should go a bit lighter with the hair/stache/brows. I used to have darkdark brown hair, almost black, and at 55 I really can’t pull it off anymore. I do the medium brown with silver in it. Don’t cover my grey at all:)

  27. AlmondJoy says:

Beautiful! Reminds me of my parents โค March 5th made 30 years for them and they are still in LOVE. Always making googly eyes at each other and doing sweet little things like leaving flowers and notes. Of course my siblings and I tease them and pretend to be grossed at times, lol.. But it really is great to see relationships like theirs and Tom Selleck’s.

    • mayamae says:

Good for you. I read a comment the other day in which a poster said her parents’ happy marriage was the best gift they gave her as their child.

    • Emily C. says:

My grandparents were like that. And they died within days of each other.

  28. Suzanneg444 says:

At least five people on here posted that their dad looks EXACTLY like Tom Selleck!
That kinda makes ya wonder…doesn’t it…?
    LOL

    • Bucky says:

Haha, maybe it’s a mustache thing ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s just a long-standing joke in my family.

  29. JudyK says:

    They are adorable together.

Tom Selleck, like Mark Harmon, have both aged well and are still just as sexy as they ever were.

Oh, and you can add Mark Harmon and his wife, Pam Dawber, to your list!

    • Sugar1 says:

Mark Harmon OMG crushed on him forever as much as I was bummed that Pam got him (she is adorable too) I have to admit they make a the perfect couple that I thought was suppose to be with me;)

  30. Feebee says:

He looks younger in the photo tagged 2010 than the one in 2006. So they’ve either been mislabeled or he truly doesn’t age like normal people. I’ve been in love with his superior genes since Magnum PI. This is a lovely story.

    • snowflake says:

i noticed that too. i think hes had a facelift and botox, her botox, but they look great!

  31. Isadora says:

I really like him – and while I probably wouldn’t hit him today (although he DOES look phenomenal for his age), I’m quite in love with him in his Magnum days. And I think it’s great that his wife of 26 years (wow) is within is own age range and not necessarily what you would call a typical generic Hollywood beauty.

  32. CeltLady says:

He is the reason that I won’t miss “Blue Bloods”. The man is gorgeous.

    • Abby_J says:

Me either. I love the show, and I love him on it. I love all of their characters, really

Donnie Wahlberg is growing on me. I especially love that Wahlberg’s character isn’t the “cheating on his wife” character. They are together, they work at it, and I think that is awesome.

  33. Happy21 says:

Thank you! Thank You! Thank YOU! for posting about my forever dong Tom Selleck. I am 36 years old. I have been in love with him since I was probably 6 years old (ok that may be creepy but he is seriously my first ever celebrity crush). Magnum PI is and will always be my favourite TV show and Blue Bloods isn’t even that great but I just watch it for him (and Donnie Wahlberg is pretty great too).

I love that he’s so happy with his wife and I think that adds to his attractiveness. I read an article a couple years ago in People about them and their low key life on their ranch. It seems pretty great

    ๐Ÿ˜€

    • InLike says:

Wow ! Selleck is still hot.

@Happy21 I don’t think it’s creepy at all. My childhood crush when I was a little girl was Jerry Lewis (the comedian). Some people would think thats creepy.

Even as a grown woman my heart still goes pitter-patter when I watch a Jerry Lewis film.

I’m sure the animals on their ranch are far less dangerous than the ones in Hollywood. It’s probably one of the secrets to their bliss.

    • Isadora says:

My childhood crush was Terence Hill. I was probably 5 or 6 years old back then too and have seen his movies with Bud Spencer only because my older brother (then 13/14) loved them. And goodness, I still think Terence Hill was amazingly hot in those crappy/legendary movies.

  34. Nicolette says:

I’ve always liked Tom Selleck, he just always came across as a very likeable person. Loved him on ‘Friends’ and always thought Monica should have wound up with Richard.

  35. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

If they’ve been married 26 years I don’t think she could be called the name bitch.

  36. ReignbowGirl says:

My grandparents met them on an elevator once while they were in Hawaii on vacation, and they had the lovliest chat (my grandma’s words!) about nice restaurants and interesting things to see and do while they were there. My grandpa said afterwords that my grandma was rather chatty with them; my grandma looked at him and said, “Don’t you know who that was?!” He had no idea. ๐Ÿ˜€

  37. RobN says:

You know, there are actually guys out there who don’t really have any crap to put up with. Easy going and fun to live with; he sounds like one of them.

    • karid says:

True that. I’ve been married to one for twelve years, never a single regret.

    • Emily C. says:

Lots of them, too. I don’t know where so many women here get the idea that it’s unusual for a man not to cheat or generally be a jerk. Because it’s not. Maybe they get their ideas about men from Hollywood, land of the cheating jerks? Idk, but Tom Selleck’s a lot closer to an average guy than the Hollywood types we gossip about most.

  38. pirategirl says:

Tom is my mom’s biggest celebrity crush, would always freak out when Magnum PI would come on when I was kid. I recently started watching the reruns on Netflix, and now that I am older, I see what the fuss is about. He still looks good.

  39. joan says:

I heard long ago that he was gay. Whatever happened to that rumor?

  40. holly hobby says:

Ah, he just gets finer and finer with age. I was too young to admire his short shorts on Magnum PI but I definitely was into Dr. Richard Burke during the Friends era. I wanted Monica to end up with him rather than Chanandler Bong!

Whatever, sounds like they found a way to make it work!

  41. wow says:

Wow! They both look great! And good for them about what works for them in their marriage. I’m usually a cynic to but I want to believe this one. Of course, couples can be married that long and longer but still have a shady partner (i.e. Marie and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bill and Hilary Clinton etc…). But Tom & Jilly are more believable to me for some reason.

  42. TheCountess says:

Tom & Jillie, Mark & Pam, Robby & Karla – Those are the three celebrity couples I’d be genuinely sorry to hear about ever breaking up. They all seem grounded and down to earth, and not sucked up into famedom (which probably accounts for their longevity, they have their priorities straight).

    • manta says:

I usually don’t get invested that much in celebrity hookings/breakups because I feel a little bit ridiculous caring about personal lives of people I’ve never even met.

But, like you, there are some couples that I’d be very sad to hear about a separation: Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen (married 20 years), Ed Harris and Amy Madigan (30 years), Christopher Walken and his wife (45 years), Martin and Janet Sheen (morethan 50 years).

And in the sports area, I’ve always liked Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi together and all of their charity work. Since their years in the spotlights are behind them, it probably is easier to keep a low profile.

  43. Camille (The Original) says:

Aww, lovely story! She’s an interesting looking little thing, but I think she looks better with the brunette hair. (Hey beauty is in the eye of the beholder OK).

  44. headrot says:

adorable! this is how people keep a marriage alive and well.

also why tom selleck is the best!

  45. snowflake says:

I LOVE TOM SELLECK! one of my first crushes, from watching magnum pi. i would love more posts on him : )

  46. Vicky says:

I’m 38 and I would hit that!!! Wow he’s so attractive for 69. Good for him. Blue Bloods is worth watching 80% because of him. If he wasn’t playing the Francis Reagan role, I doubt the show would have made it to season 2.

  47. Moi says:

Thank you for this. My mom had a poster of Tom taped to her closet door throughout my entire life. I still have that poster. My daughter shellacked it to perfection after my mother passed away. Mom had great taste in celebrity crushes! Kudos to him and his wifey. Love hearing that he is as great as I had always heard from my mom growing up.

  48. Emily C. says:

What a great antidote to Goop. I’d love more posts like this.

  49. MsAubra says:

    God bless them!
