Matt Bomer covers the May issue of Details, and I’m underwhelmed. Where are the piercing blue Bomer eyes and the amazing facial structure? Details “beiged-out” Bomer’s eyes and gave us a photoshopped leading man that looks more like Josh Duhamel. Unlike Matt, Josh is a generic pretty boy, so I don’t know what Details was thinking with this shoot. Matt revealed to Details that he’s been married to his partner, Simon Halls, for three years. Matt publicly came out two years ago.
Matt is also promoting his new HBO film, The Normal Heart adaptation. The movie also stars Mark Ruffalo, Jim Parsons, and Julia Roberts. Matt plays an AIDS-afflicted writer turned human activist. Details’ article describes Matt as “More Than Just a Pretty Face.” No kidding. Excerpts, please:
He read The Normal Heart book in 1992: “At the time, I was clueless and obviously in a different place in relation to my sexuality. I was in romantic relationships with girls–whatever that means at 14. But I read it. And it completely rocked my world. It’s just such an amazing call to arms.”
His passion for the movie: “It’s rare that you get to play a great role that has an arc. It’s rare that you get to be a part of something that, hopefully, has some significance socially or historically. And then to have a role that changes you? I think that’s the best you could hope for in this profession, and that was certainly the case here. I don’t think I’ll ever be the same as I was when I started the job.”
He lost weight for the role: “I stopped weighing myself after losing 35 pounds. I thought the number wasn’t the important thing to focus on. This wasn’t Biggest Loser. [Matthew McConaughey] called me and walked me through what he did. It was very generous, but I took a slightly different path.” It took Bomer three months to attain a sufficiently skeletal figure. “That’s what I signed up for. That’s my job. And it’s the least I could do.”

A Normal Heart will inevitably be compared to Dallas Buyers Club because of the two films’ similar themes. I’ve included the trailer at the bottom of this post. Julia Roberts pops in for a role comparable to that of Jennifer Garner, but Julia is far less likable as an actress. Why is Julia doing an HBO film in the first place? Strange days.

Am I the only one who already knew that Matt was married with 3 kids? I feel like that it’s been out there (no pun intended) forever. He’s so effing sexy!
I thought it was already known that he was married too. When he came out, I’m pretty sure he said he was married.
It was reported he had a partner not a husband but the three kids is well known (at least to those that follow him).

In the last picture he looks more like Johnny Knoxville than anyone else to me which BOO Details, BOO.
The cover looks like Channing Tatum to me. Basically he is everyone and anyone BUT Matt Bomer.

The inside photos are hot. The outside photo does say Channing Tatum and mouth breathing Cro-Magnon man face, (which is what I don’t like about Tatum, aside from his ‘potato’ acting, as someone said yesterday). I don’t know what he did to deserve that edit as a cover.

He’s definitely still hot on the cover but it’s terrible that they changed his eye colour. His blue eyes are one of his most recognisable features.

The cover picture is so odd, he looks like a super chiseled Channing Tatum. But definitely still hot, despite the bad airbrushing. I think it would take more than some overdone photoshopping to make him look bad.

I second this, and third it and everything it! I usually only lurk here, but Bomer is one of the good guys, the triple threat, the underrated talent that’s finally getting the attention he deserves. Been said before, better than I can say– beautiful inside and out. Wanted to add- Ditto on Lupita. She too is an actress with an ability that I’m excited about, and a woman who is such a wonderful example for young women, and I’m hopeful for what she’ll do next.

Looking at a bland picture of Matt is like watching a movie based on a book you’ve read; you can fill in what’s missing or washed over from memory and see all the true beauty in your mind’s eye.

I also thought the cover was Channing Tatum. He’s great looking, but Matt is, in my opinion, way more attractive. His early promos for White Collar are better than this – and he was barely known then!
I really hope the film won’t be compared to Dallas Buyers Club, they’re two different films that happen to have a few things in common but are also quite different in many ways. It’s a sign that there aren’t enough movies made about the HIV/AIDS crisis of the 80’s because what else could you compare it to?
As for the shoot … someone needs to be fired for making him less attractive. It’s not hard. You point the camera and shoot, the man’s face and eyes will do the rest. Good gawd.
That’s so very true. My first movie I saw about AIDS (an oldie but a goodie) was ‘And the Band Played On’ by HBO (I think it was HBO)….

I only watched a few seasons of White Collar, but always thought he was a very charismatic actor. Glad to see him getting more and more roles, with his talent and that ridiculously beautiful face, he should be a huge star.

I love him! what a coincidence i was just watching reruns of white collar today s and here he is on the cover:) ,this cover does absolutely no justice to this man’s beauty , why oh why don’t these hollywood ppl cast gorgeous men like him in big budget movies , instead of budget ,bland over rated stars like justin timberlake ,ryan reynolds and the rest of the hollywood . Definetly gonna watch this movie, strangely a small part of me still wishes he should have been cast as Christian grey ,what a treat it would have been to watch those blue eyes, sigh!
