George Clooney tried to woo Amal via email, she didn’t reply for days

I’m sorry for the crappy quality of these photos. Even though George Clooney really, really wants us to know every (sketchy?) detail of his courtship and engagement to Amal Alamuddin, they’re pretty good at not being photographed in the traditional coupled-up pap-walk ways. Aw, that makes her special. Usually when Clooney does a Girlfriend Rollout, she gets pap’d right away and we have lots of photos to go along with the stories. Not so much in this case.

Anyway, these are some (blurry) pics of Clooney and Alamuddin out to dinner last night in Malibu. They had dinner with Bono and Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford. I wonder if Cindy is mad about getting dethroned as Clooney’s Forever Crush? He probably still has a crush on Cindy, but Amal is sticking around to keep it in check.

The Daily Mirror had a new story about how George wooed Amal, and we haven’t heard some of it, I guess. We already knew that Amal played hard to get and she refused to give George her phone number. So first he e-mailed her. A friend told The Mirror: “It was all very tongue in cheek, but it got the ball rolling.” While Amal liked George’s tone in the e-mail, she still waited a few days to reply. And then just a few months later, he proposed with a ring that apparently set him back $600,000.

He finally got himself a smart one! I can see why he fell so hard, they must have the best converstations. I think they will make a great pair and I for one am happy he can stop with the arm candy now.

    • Lori says:

who does she get to talk to then. He’s just a dumb Hollywood actor. Did he even go to college?

    • Katherine says:

It probably went into SPAM and she didn’t even see it. When she did she panicked and feared she’d blown it. LOL!

      • Not to try and bash you, but I honestly don’t understand why people think that an educated, hardworking woman (who presumably earns a ton of money herself) is simply with George for the money. Or exposure. I think that it’s degrading to women just to say, ‘oh! he’s got more money and exposure than her (while she is well off herself) and so she’s with him because of money, etc’. Same thing with George Lucas’s wife. They met at a charity meeting (whatever they’re called)–where she had to give a speech–George Lucas really liked the speech (and her), and he asked to be introduced to her. She’s an educated, beautiful woman in her early forties, who married George Lucas–apparently because he’s rich. Even though she works HARD to make her own money. Same with Amal.

I mean, I can see a different side to why they got with the two Georges…..maybe because they were having a hard time finding a dude who would want to date someone with a busy schedule like theirs, who had more than half a brain, and weren’t going to be intimidated by how much money they made (especially if they made less).

But I just find it completely degrading to say that these women who have clearly put more than their money’s worth in their education, are clearly accomplished, beautiful women–who are great role models for young girls–are only with their current S.O’s because of money–like they have a history of going from rich dude to rich dude.

    • Megan says:

In what universe is he considered smart enough for her? Maybe it’s time to stop believing the hype about him.

      • Truthtful says:

        Lol! And totally!
Plus he is way too old for her! So old, dumb and uneducated… What else?

      • Island Planet says:

How easy do you think it is for a smart, successful, beautiful woman to find a man who makes her laugh, is dynamite in the sack, has truckloads of money and can offer a lifestyle it would take her a lifetime to attain on her own (if ever). Even if he does fall short in one area like smarts I would think he more than makes up for it in many other areas.

    • Fue McCormick says:

You can be a smart woman and still be an idiot when it comes to men. You can also be successful and be “starstruck” and want to travel all over the world with a handsome, rich dude who appears to be your Prince Charming on a white horse. I hope that GC is happy and I hope it lasts. But I think it’s crazy when people get engaged when they’re still in the “honeymoon” phase of the relationship. At this point she probably still thinks it’s cute that he snores. Pffff …
I don’t think GC is a dumbass … and you don’t need a college diploma in his line of work. I’m GC’s age and I don’t have a 4-yr degree; I went to the “school of hard knocks” and did all the crap that I wanted to do so I wouldn’t have regrets when I got older. Now that I’m “older” I have a successful company and I’m glad I chose the “f**ck college” route and experienced a lot of things and took a lot of jobs that educated me more than 4 years of college could.

    • zana says:

I always thought there was some threesome going on there lol — Cindy and her hubby do not look happy…I might be wrong though.

  2. LadyMTL says:

All of this is starting to weird me out. Like…are they angling for a reality show or something? I’d like to think that they’d be above the Kim / Kanye, Tori / Dean (and etc) type of famewhoring.

  3. TheOriginalKitten says:

That’s interesting that they make children’s clothes for adults.
She’s really owning that toddler shirt with the bow…..

  4. Mrs. Lecter says:

Oh, well she played ~hard to get~, we all know how easy it is to land a guy who can’t commit by just stringing him along for a few days! And then of course she changes him and they live happily ever after! tee hee~

    I hate these stupid narratives.

  5. Loopy says:

Cindy and Rande must be sick to death of meeting his new girlfriends .

    • Sabrine says:

I’m not going to look for the negativity or diss her clothing choices. Who cares what she wears….it’s her deal, not mine. In the here and now they look very happy together. I hope they last for a while. I give it 10 years which in Hollywood years is practically a lifetime.

It’s nice to see she’s gone back to her real job. It may be hard to keep it real but I think she really needs to do that in order to keep and preserve her own identity.

  6. Little darling says:

Hmmm…perhaps it was because she was actually working? You know, at her real job that actually requires her to put in long hours.

I’m so tired of all of the hooplah here, especially the press saying she’s his match (if match suddenly = upswing) and I have to say it but it’s so suspect that there are so many leaks about it.

    George has gone soft!

  7. blue marie says:

We get it George, you’re getting married now put the rest of this sh-t away, it’s ridiculous.

  8. Hannah says:

I shouldn’t complain because he finally got himself a smart, self-made, accomplished woman. But her dress sense is the WORST! Doesn’t matter of course but her outfits make me nauseous. Maybe she’s making up for the boring, conservative stuff she has to wear for work but, blimey, that top! A sparkly skull with a pink bow? Seriously?

  9. janie says:

He seems happy and that’s all that matters. Gorgeous ring and lady. I wish them nothing but the best and lots of happiness.

  10. Renee28 says:

Why is she dressed like a 5 year old? She really has terrible style.

  11. Daffy says:

New staged pics (there are better pics on other sites) at Rande’s restaurant (of course) with the Casamigos logo in full view (of course). What a surprise! He’s a private man, remember! He won’t use his private life to promote his product. pffff.
    She dresses like a teenager. She’s 37.
In one of the email, he said: ‘The world’s hottest man should meet the hottest human rights lawyer’. Whoa, George, you have a big ego. And it’s immature.
These people never work? They always are on vacation.

  12. D says:

Enough with the “leaked” info about how he got her! I’m really starting to question this relationship. I personally think the initial roll out about the engagement was too much. So what, are we going to hear every freaking detail leading up to the wedding?! I’m really no longer interested.

  13. Elise621 says:

I still can’t get over the comments from his PR people about how he finally met a woman on his level. People seemed to cut him slack on that because some PR flac put it out there. He has made repeated clarifications and statements about the Steve Wynn argument and if he wanted to clear up that statement he could have done so too. He is the one who chose to date all of them. No one forced him to so basically he is just insulting himself for choosing the women to begin with.
The whole thing with Amal just seems off to me. She seems like an educated accomplished woman but deciding to marry him so quickly after his history should give her plenty of reasons to take it slow.

    • Jayna says:

I agree. He dated all D-listers whose careers were on the periphery of the celebrity world, except one who was a cocktail waitress. He has plenty of women who were doing more with their lives or had more interests in line with his own no matter their careers. He dated Renee Zelweiger privately and others I’m sure. But he mostly chose the women he did, because they requested nothing from him and could fit into his life which was his main focus for years, building his career up, going into producing, directing, screenplay writing, his humanitarianism. I think he was with Elisabetta purely because he was hot for her and he was in italy a lot anyway. So now he’s blown away by an accomplished woman with her own life and ideas and has interests more in line with his own. I think it was just the right timing. If he had met her even five years ago it wouldn’t have lasted.

But the comments coming from his team are offensive to women who he chose to date. There’s no reason to insult them like this. They all seem nice, just not very interesting in interviews. I did like Lisa Snowdon a lot, who is 40ish now and has carved out her own little career in the UK.

      • lina says:

A D lister would be like Kim Kardashian. None of his girlfriends were ‘D listers”. They were women who were just not famous. Including Amal. I don’t think Clooney would jeperdoize his A list status by dating C, D and F list women.

    • Katherine says:

I thought he dated – and maybe was engaged to – a law student back in the day. She was French and quite lovely. Wasn’t he with her for years?

      • Jayna says:

Celine. She was 23 when he met her. I’ve read she was a law student or pre-law while working at a restaurant. She dropped everything and moved over here and moved in with him. She never pursued her education over here and played housewife. Her interviews were all about making a home for him and she came across very young and adoring. How he woke up in the morning to have breakfast with her, blah, blah. I think she taught pre-school once while they were together and he was gone a lot. Then she tried modeling, etc,, the usual Clooney girl deal, and stayed in the U.S. when they broke up trying to be in the entertainment business. She turned into another D-lister of his basically. She dated some artist over here after Clooney. She eventually went back to Paris after her try in the business didn’t work out. I think she got married to someone over there and lives in Paris with one child. She was very pretty and sweet.

      • Me Three says:

Celine was actually only 19 when she moved here and she was in “Pre-Law” as an undergrad. She was 19 and he was 39…as usual. This one is 17 years younger…I guess he’s moving on to more “mature” women–at least she’s not 20 years younger than he is and he doesn’t look like her pervy uncle like he did with the last one!

  14. Miss M says:

if this relationship was quiet like Ashton and Mila Kunis was and is, I would believe it is real. At least he is dating someone who, apparently, has substance. Will his team change her wardrobe?

    • HappyMom says:

The very private Mila who was on Ellen discussing how she wants a natural birth?

    • ataylor says:

Mila and Ashton have been anything but quiet or private. They literally have daily pap shots arranged over on DM. At least with Demi, Ashton kinda kept it on the red carpet. I really didn’t see much of them on the daily pap tours until he got caught with the chick in the hot tub. Whereas with Mila, it’s every. freaking. day. Or are you seriously going to tell me that there are hordes of paparazzi just waiting for them to visit Ashton’s sister in Slidell, Louisiana? Yes two or three shots were from fans and their phones, but the rest were professionally taken.

And that whole wearing her ring for two months? Um no. She didn’t start wearing the ring until that infamous visit to The Grove, also known as, the most papped outdoor mall in Los Angeles/West Hollywood area. Splash News (I think that’s the photo agency of choice for her?) and X17 practically have daily photos (though she gets really pissed when those photogs take pics of her). Plus, she forgets that there are fan pics of her on twitter, also not wearing the ring.

  15. Jayna says:

I like that she dresses how she wants and isn’t all of a sudden being called a fashion icon and aware of everything she wears or is given to wear by her new A-lister fiance’ (cough cough Katie Holmes) the second she’s linked with him.

  16. epiphany says:

Another day, another exploration ad nauseam into the latest relationship of the World’s Most Private Celebrity, a man who rails against the intrusion of paps into his personal life, who refuses to discuss anything beyond his work and politics, but wants us to know every excruciating detail of THIS relationship. Can’t wait for the real reason beyond all of this to finally emerge. Is George going to throw his hat in the political ring, or will he be implicated in some scandal? Whatever the case, this 180 in attitude in terms of using his private life for PR is very deliberate (as is everything Clooney does) so we should know soon enough.

  17. Mean Hannah says:

I’m almost 40 and I have T-shirts like that – from my younger days and some given to me by others as a goof. I wore them at home even just a few years ago, but now I can’t. Maybe this was a surprise party? She looks like she was lounging in her Malibu beach outfit or PJs and threw on a sweater or a jacket to go to brunch.

  18. whoozy says:

Really? The funniest thing about all this is her wardrobe?? I’m starting to think they’ve never been alone. And I guess the kiddie clothes are in line for a grown woman who still lives with her mommy.

  19. OhDear says:

The more that gets published about this couple, the more sketchy the story seems. Though hopefully some of it is made up and not leaked by either of their staffs?

Also, Cindy Crawford’s expression in that photo – she looks so disinterested! It’s as if she’s thinking “Ok, let’s get this over with.”

  20. Cody says:

About the ring, not to be mean and it is his money . But for a guy who is into humanitarian work and woman who is this great international human rights lawyer ,you would think they would not want to spend that type of money on some ornate and in your face engagement ring and spend on let say -finding those girls who have been kidnapped in Nigeria. Next time Georget gets preachy about saving the world, he should take the ring and sell it. I hope she isn’t planning to take a trip to Darfur with that ring.

    • siri says:

It probably wasn’t meant to be funny…but your last sentence just made me laugh sort of hysterically. That’s what annoys me the most. I have no doubt that George has his “human right moments”- but at the same time, he is completely inconsequent in his personal life. Splashing out that amount, and then making sure everybody can make a clear picture of it. Sure, it’s his money, but is it needed to show it off like this? Does it make the relationship more valuable, or serious? I don’t think so.

  21. Aqua says:

The only reason those pictures in People magazine came out when they did is because I believed George knew then that he was going to propose to her, that he wanted us to know that he was serious about her and possibly wanted us to get use to the idea of him finally getting remarried.

  22. GeeMoney says:

Ugh… we are still talking about this engagement? SNOOZE.

  23. JuJuBee says:

Funny how they found no privacy at a restaurant owned by Rande. Luckily the ” pap” shots included the Casamigo logo in most shots. I do find it interesting that Rande and Cindy seem to be in the thicke of all of this. George’s tight circle of friends are nowhere to be seen, nor heard from.

  24. Ann says:

Why do people say she’s “at his level”? She’s highly educated and he’s not. If anything, he’s beneath her intellectually and professionally. He’s an actor, his work is not that important.

    • Tapioca says:

GC may be best known for playing make-believe, but he’s also been Oscar-nominated/won for producing, directing AND screen-writing and I’m struggling to think of any of his contemporaries who are so accomplished.

Let’s not pretend he’s some brainless himbo marrying the human face of altruism. Amal’s current client just happens to be one of Colonel Gadaffi’s right-hand men – after all, even war criminals and despots have the “human right” to try and avoid facing justice by paying very expensive lawyers.

  25. lunchcoma says:

Getting a little tired of this “play hard to get, gals!” narrative. As if women don’t have enough pressure to do that already.

  26. Jade says:

Part of me thinks he doesn’t give an f anymore and is just letting the press report whatever they want to. Another part of me thinks due to his worsening back, he wants to be behind the scenes more and needs a credible wife figure to work the Oscar circuit. Another part of is me is like just get married already! And can I also add she looks similar to pre-pregnancy Lauren Silverman. So I guess Leo may end up with an exotic brunette too?

  27. Hissyfit says:

Why the hell is she dressed as a 5 year old? And why are they still trying to sell this engagement? If he’s really head over heels in love as what he claims, then why not marry her and be done with it?

  28. Asha says:

Agreed, it was his choice to date celebrities all these years, I hate this “he finally found his equal” comment. It was his choice not to date intellectuals (although it seems he did every now and then, Carole Radziwill for one).

Also agreed that she should be more wary. This man in his 50s who has never wanted marriage or a long term relationship is suddenly engaged after months of dating? She should be hearing alarm bells.

  29. Aqua says:

If you all think the roll out of this relationship is bad now, wait till the wedding. It’ll be a three ring circus.

  30. The Original G says:

Yes, of course. Only lawyers are worth talking to and are above everyone else’s level.

  31. Cora says:

This is very much Clooney’s traditional girlfriend roll-out. There were no blurry pics or bad quality photos of the two of them in the onslaught of pap pics that came before this. The photos in Tanzania, the Seychelles, LA, and New York were crystal clear (and beautifully lit).

  32. Aqua says:

I don’t know if she played hared to get or not.No one really knows for sure but what ever she did it clearly worked.

  33. racer says:

She didn’t play hard to get, she just agreed to play the game with him.

His entire relationship history can be found in a goggle search. If we assume she’s intelligent instead of giving her an intellectual pass because she’s educated, she would have played hard to get longer simply to assess how serious he was. If a man wants you he’ll pursue you until you relent or make your disinterest clear. The stories about their courtship doesn’t sound like George put in a lot of effort or substantial time before she folded.

  34. Fan says:

This is not an unusual behavior for older men. They always treasure the very much younger women in their lives.

  35. Suki2 says:

The outfit is hideous but I kind of love it. It’s like the inverse of an E Hostess trying to classy it up in Prada. Amal is a card-carrying elite and is taken seriously in her work so she can wear the neon Hello Kitty bedazzled skull tank top with impunity.

  36. joan says:

Some commenters really embarrass themselves trying to hard to be negative, twisting themselves into knots trying to claim Clooney “isn’t smart” or “she’s a golddigger” when they have no proof of either.

Just because they only read gossip sites doesn’t mean a movie star who’s been involved with the UN is stupid. Just because they only read about uneducated, shallow starlets doesn’t mean an attorney as accomplished as she is is in it for the money.

Do something to prove that YOU’RE smart.

  37. DOROTEA says:

I looove her t-shirt! It looks fun and neon colors are the latest fashion. Not all women in the world are americans and not all of us want to wear beige, grey and black all the time. She is a middle eastern and I guess, like us latinas, they like vibrant colors over there too. I find her extremely pretty and with a cool sense of fashion and I hope she and George found in each other a companion for the rest of their lives.

  38. lisa says:

let’s pretend we like the shirt. it totally clashed with the skirt. not in a fun ironic way. but like she was dressed by FEMA.

  39. african woman says:

with those sunglasses. she looks somehow like Michael Jackson lol

  40. TOPgirl says:

Whatever! In five years, they’ll be divorced AND with a baby named Looney Toons!

  41. Suki2 says:

I am ashamed to say that I cannot get enough of this story.

  42. ataylor says:

I gotta say, I love her t-shirt and I’m in my 30′s. LOL.

That being said, I hate those clown shoes she wears sometimes WITH those ultra-flowered skinny jeans. Like, really? You’re wearing those two, together? At the same time?

  43. nora says:

Mickael jackson is not die he’s date clooney
