Alexa Ray Joel again denies having any work done other than a nose job in 2010

Alexa Ray Joel was the subject of plastic surgery rumors last month when she emerged looking very different than she used to. Alexa had a nose job in 2010 and she admits to that, but she denied having any other work done at all. It’s possible she has an excellent makeup artist and that she looks different due to weight loss, or it’s possible that she has had injections and non-surgical procedures and that she’s fudging the truth.

Alexa was on Good Morning America earlier this week, where she repeated her claims that she has only had a nose job. That may be the case, it’s hard to tell. The 28 year-old daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley is promoting her music career. She’s been singing live at the Carlyle Hotel in New York. They showed clips of Alexa performing and she really does have pipes. When she spoke, I was surprised at how young her voice sounds, to put it nicely. She has somewhat of a baby voice. Alexa also talked about when she fainted on stage about a month ago. She simply called it “par for the course” and said that she was “tired.”

On fainting on stage
I think it’s par for the course. I had been working a few weeks straight and I was tired and it just happened, you know. It was just a case of sheer exhaustion.

On the plastic surgery rumors
It was interesting because they were comparing pictures of me from when I was between 16 to 18 to recent pictures of me now when I’m 28 years old. So of course I look different, but I can tell you right now that the only thing that is true, which I have been open about, is that I did have rhinoplasty surgery but no I haven’t had anything else done. I don’t even dye my hair.

On how it was growing up with famous parents
It was [tough]. I was a very sensitive, painfully shy young woman and I probably wasn’t ready for the limelight and I think it did hit me pretty hard but I’m really grateful for it. I think anything that you go through in your life where there’s obstacles, you learn to overcome them and it just builds character. And it also makes for really good songs.

I would have liked it if she didn’t frame her childhood as so hard when she had incredible wealth and advantages growing up. It would have been nice for her to pay lip service to the fact that her struggles came from a place of privilege.

As far as the plastic surgery issue, I want to believe that she’s telling the truth because if she admitted to a nose job why would she fib about getting more done? She still looks way different to me, and it doesn’t look like just makeup and weight loss. But maybe her makeup is simply spectacular now. I want to figure out how to contour like that.

She’s always had that nice square chin, but they may have cleaned up her jaw line area (or did she just lose weight?) Other than that, it appears to be the nose job alone. She’s got great, expressive eyes.

    • Stef Leppard says:

I agree. Maybe her chin looks slightly more chiseled, but otherwise I don’t see anything other than a little weight loss, maybe. Oh, and BOOBS.

    • tinyjones says:

The brow lift is obvious..i was thinking botox on the brow (forehead) but having seen her younger pics, I think she went for a subtle lift. My guess is it was to open her eye area up..her eyes, though really big with great big lids, droop downward like her dad’s. He has the same big ol basset hound eyes. But the brow lift brings the top of her face (forehead) upwards makes it even wider, taut and smooth. Your eye goes there and not at the droopy eyelids

      Plus the nose job.

So I’d say at least two surgical procedures

    • Mixtape says:

I agree. I think any perceived differences are due to makeup and comparing a clearly posed picture against shots with more candid facial expressions. And yes, she came from a privileged background, but I still feel so sorry for her. Forever she was told “too bad you’re not as pretty as your Mom,” and now that she looks great, it’s all, “there’s no human way you can be that pretty”–she can’t win!

      • Delorb says:

But it must suck to come out looking more like your dad than your gorgeous mom. Meanwhile all her half siblings have that blond thing going on.

      • gefeylich says:

Exactly. I love Billy Joel, and he looks OK for a man, but no one could help but feel cheated when his are the dominant alleles you inherited and not mom’s princess genes. I mean, Joel is no Henry Fonda, whose face was beautiful on a man or a woman (his daughter Jane), or even Sting, who passed on some great bone structure to his younger daughters.

Alexa is just trying to correct what she was given, I guess. It’s her face to “improve” or destroy.

See this girl transform into Angelina Jolie, which Alexa now kind of resembles…..all through the power of makeup.

Plus angles and shadowing and lighting have a big effect: http://postimg.org/image/jg0iga8u9/

    • reddy says:

Yup. When Angelina Jolie had this make up desaster going on a few days ago (or was it just yesterday?) everybody was like “what do you need this HQ make up for?. Well THIS is what you need it for. To really sculpture and structure your face. If you look at alexa’s face closely, you can see for example that her jaw is highlighted heavily. Plus, she’s sucking in her cheeks to look seductive, so that stretches the face even more.

      • tinyjones says:

Jolie had the powder on her chin, jaw and left clavicle. The makeup artist went over her whole face with the hd powder and kabuki brush probably to set it and make it glow. How was that sculpting her face? You don’t use hd silica powder for sculpting you use it for highlighting and/ or making luminous after you use contour. Contour powder is what you “sculpt,” with.

      • reddy says:

The powder wasn’t right for the flashlights. In the right lighting you wouldn’t have seen it and it would have looked good. The point is to highlight certain areas and make some others appear more subtle by using different shades of makeup. Thats why only some areas of Angelina Jolies face were powdered instead of her whole face.

      • Sarah says:

@reddy: Exactly!! She just learned on how to properly use make up!!

@tinyjones… AJ didn’t sculpture her face like ARJ did, she just partially highlighted and set the makeup, but HD make up in general is a great way to sculpture your face, more than with regular products. It’s because of the silica that’s in it.

    • minime says:

wow that is pretty impressive! If only I could use makeup properly… 🙂

  3. lenje says:

Based on the comparison photos, yup, it’s make up.

    • homegrrrl says:

If she -only- had her nose made smaller, how do you explain the “turtle eyes” that she had? She used to have swollen upper and lower lids that made her have eye slits, and now she has gigantic Betty Davis eyes.

  4. ToodySezHey says:

Eh, I liked better before. Something about her old nose highlighted and accentuated her eyes. Overall she was cute and her fave had personality. Now she is just generically beautiful

    • reddy says:

You are so right! Like with Kim Kardashian, she looked much much better with her old nose (I mean the real one…well I’m just thinking, maybe I’ver never seen real nise as I don’t know when she had her first surgery… So ok, the first nose I’ve seen on her)

    • chaine says:

i agree. why do they all want the same generic nose? it makes her look like everyone else, nothing unique or memorable about her.

  5. akivasha says:

I think she is more beautiful than her mom. The side by side 2013/2014 picture…it looks like she has a good makeup team now.

    • DaniLakes DDS says:

So do I! I find her mom to be generic looking, but I have always thought Alexa was stunning!

  6. Lesley says:

Nope, she definately had some lower lid surgery to get rid of the bug- eye look of Billy’s that she inherited.

    • QQ says:

THAT!!!!!! (Which is also something the Olsens were rumored to undergo forcedencouraged by their management ..like at 16)

    • TheOriginalKittenq says:

Yeah this is what I thought….but upon further review, it could be makeup. When her bottom lid has liner on it, her eyes appear quite different in shape.

FTR, I’ve always thought she was pretty.

      • kri says:

Hmm, this one is a bit tough. Def had something done, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe some tox or something. Whatever it was, it’s fairly subtle. In some pics she looks alot like Penelope Cruz and her sister. I kind of love those beautiful eyes. Her face is like a Byzantine icon, although she has got tons of makeup on in that top pic.

    • aenflex says:

That’s what I was thinking. Her eyes have done whatever the opposite of widening is.

    • Evie says:

I agree. This is NOT just makeup. She inherited Billy Joel’s “prominent” eyes. Looks like she’s had upper and lower lid surgery. Her eyes look deeper-set now. The chin is different as well. It’s true that by late 20s/early 30s most people lose the “baby fat” from their faces and look more sculpted (unless you have a naturally round/plump visage) – but the change is far more than even a professional makeup team could accomplish.

Alexa was attractive before and she’s still a lovely young woman. The difference is whatever work and/or makeup tricks she’s done have served to de-emphasize Billy Joel’s DNA! I think it must have been hard on Alexa to be Christie Brinkley’s daughter and not look anything like her. Even though Alexa has always been attractive, it seems like she’s suffered from self-esteem issues. I’m glad she’s doing well with her music. All the reviews have been good.

    • tinyjones says:

Close. But I call brow lift to lift the droopy bug eyes upwards..no lid surgery.

  7. starrywonder says:

I do feel bad for her though since she grew up Christie Brinkley’s daughter and from what people have said about her online acted like she was a troll living under a bridge. To be compared to her mother all of her life had to be hard which is what I think led to her eating disorder. Frankly I am surprised she is trying for a music career with the comparisons she will be getting to her dad.

    • jinni says:

I was just think that. I think that’s what she meant by her childhood being “tough”. I must have been hard for a kid whose mother is the classic, All-American, blonde haired, blue eyed ideal and you come out looking like your dark and ethnic looking father who is not considered a looker.

Personally I think she is better looking than her mom, who though pretty is really generic looking to me, while Alexa is striking. I hope she stop messing with her face because it is lovely, especially in that 2011 pic that’s up there.

      • starrywonder says:

Glad I am not the only one whose mind went to why her childhood was tough for her. I am sure having money helped but to have kids and probably other adults comment on your looks and act like you are ugly because you dont have your mother’s looks must suck.

    • Mayamae says:

I’ve never heard her mother shamed her for her looks. I know it’s not uncommon – both Jennifer Aniston and Tori Spelling had mothers who made sure they knew they were lacking in that area.

If Alexa was made to feel unattractive compared to her mother, having a younger sister who is a carbon copy of Christie would be difficult.

    • holly hobby says:

I think Olivia Newton-John’s daughter suffered the same fate. I don’t know what happened to her but she was on a reality show a few years ago and she was screwed up. It also didn’t help that she messed up her face.

  8. QQ says:

Lol she is into scarfing and neck drapery this one, no?

Ah re: what no one was asking her about …uh Ok, we are still gonna kinda go with what our lying eyes are telling us but..uh Thanks

Also amongst her interests: Whining about her hard time childhood being rich to anyone that will listen

    • TheOriginalKittenq says:

+1 to your 3rd paragraph. She annoys me.

      • Kiddo says:

I know she annoys you O’KItt, but her mother is a narcissistic crazy-pants drama queen and her dad had alcohol issues. I’d take my more hard scrabble life over hers, any day.

      • FLORC says:

        Agree Kiddo
She isn’t just another child of rich and famous parents that has nothing to complain about. On top of her Dad’s issues she’s constantly compared to her mothers beauty and her fathers talent. This girl has rarely had a chance to be herself while always being told too bad she didn’t get her mothers features and her father’s talent.

If 1 child of celebs can get a pass on this it’s her.

      • Macey says:

        agree with Kiddo & Florc

Doesnt matter how much money you have if you have low self esteem, money cant fix that. The general public has always been beyond harsh with this girl even before the internet days. I couldnt imagine growing up and hearing everyone say some of the stuff thats been said to and about her. I always had nothing but sympathy for her. I dont care if she did have a PS, it would be hard for someone growing up in her world not to but I honestly dont think she did any more than she says and Im actually pretty good with spotting that stuff. Ive seen some amazing transformation with just make up alone so I totally believe her and wish people would let her alone about her looks. I find her absolutely stunning, she has a unique and exotic look to her now.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Ok except by “average person standards” she’s still very VERY beautiful. I mean, come on…sorry, just can’t feel that bad for her. She’s hardly a ginormous ogre.

      • Kiddo says:

I wish I had made “ginormous ogre” my nick on here. Maybe another band name?

  9. Steph says:

Honestly, seeing all these different pics and at various angles, I believe her. I think she looks so different in the header photo because of makeup. She has major contouring going on and it really makes you look different. At first I thought her jaw looked more squared off but then in one of the other pics it looked that way too. Just makeup.

    • littlestar says:

I believe her too. I lost a lot of weight in my face over the last couple of years and I look different now. My best friend sent me a photo a couple of months ago of myself from about 6 years ago and said I am almost unrecognizable in it. When you lose the fat in your cheeks, it really does make a difference!

I don’t know much about this woman, but I do think she is beautiful. It’s kind of sad how much people have been carrying on about her looks.

  10. Colu says:

I believe it is contouring. I’ve watched youtube videos of people using makeup to make their face look totally different.

  11. CariBean says:

Who cares if she’s had additional surgery? That’s her business and not anyone else’s. She is gorgeous and she really can sing!

  12. Little darling says:

I don’t think she had anything more than a really great nose job. To me she looks the same except for makeup and maturity.

In regards to the growing up question, we all know she grew up wealthy, and I believe she was talking about how is personally felt inside for her to grow up with these two very very famous parents – parents who were both at the tippy top of their respective careers.
The press was AWFUL to her, and as she said she was very shy to I think she was just focusing on that angle, not by any means saying she was unappreciative.

I like her, she comes across as a good egg. I also like that she keeps getting out there even though people and press tear her down.

    • Jayna says:

I agree. She’s a singer at jazz like joints I guess. I like that she has stuck to her genre she loves and not trying to be a Katie Perry pop singer. I find her vocals too thin and high for me, but she writes music and works paying her dues in small clubs. She will probably never be in bigger than that if it hasn’t happened these past five years, but she is doing something she loves. I commend her putting up with the trolls that definitely attack her I read comments yesterday other sites about her looks in general compared to her mom pretty much calling her ugly, and they were really disgusting, especially since they came from women too.

  13. Dani says:

Looks to me like a skilled makeup job. And even if it’s not, I think she looks really great. That’s one hell of a surgeon.

  14. mkyarwood says:

She looked great before, ‘even’ in 2011/2012. She looks really severe now — nothing wrong with a little softness and character to a nose.

  15. harpreet says:

am I the only one who thinks she looks like Amal???

  16. Hannah says:

Contouring is overrated. I find her way more beautiful without all the slap on (same goes for Kim K, btw).

  17. MrsBPitt says:

Honest to God…I know single Moms who work THREE jobs and they have never fainted from “sheer exhaustion”…I hate when celebrities say that…this girl has no clue as to what hard work is!

    • Christin says:

I rolled my eyes at that comment as well. Perhaps it’s only relative to what SHE knows as hard work.

The grocery store near my home has several very elderly folks (as in early 80s) still working as baggers. They are on their feet all day when some can hardly walk well as it is. If THEY wish to talk about exhaustion, I will listen. Not this chick.

    • Jayna says:

I have a feeling that was an excuse. It’s probably like she wasn’t eating much for a couple of weeks, trying to quickly lose weight for the shows, and probably hadn’t even eaten that day or barely and got light-headed and fainted. She’s not going to admit to that, because then the rags would start with she’s got an eating disorder.

      • Msmlnp says:

        ITA. Or drug related.

      • MrsBPitt says:

Maybe she is a drama queen who will do anything for attention. After all, who would even have known about her shows if it hadnt been reported that she had fainted.

  18. cro-girl says:

Well…. she looks like me. I think she’s stunning and amazing and flawless and perfect… hahaha 😉

  19. Candy Cane says:

I think she’s gorgeous and probably only had her nose done. Looks like her face now is the work of a really good make up professional. Sadly, I can’t stand her singing.

  20. Hissyfit says:

I believe her. She lost weight too so that changed the look of her face a lot along with contouring.

  21. (The original, not CDAN) Violet says:

She probably thinks that admitting to one surgery will make her denial of the rest of the work seem plausible but, looking at old pictures, I’d say she’s a lot more work done, including her eyes.

I agree that Alexa Ray comes across as a bit of a whiner, not acknowledging the life of privilege she’s enjoyed thanks to her parents (who no doubt footed the bill for the cosmetic work).

I thought she used to be quite striking, but now she just looks plastic to me.

  22. Grumpycat says:

She looks great. She had a nose job and she has had something done under her eyes to remove the buggy look. This may not be surgery though. I don’t think it can be accomplished with just makeup. There is no makeup that is that powerful. Perhaps there is a filler injection or some other procedure that can help with this that isn’t technically surgery.

  23. Deedee says:

She looked so much prettier before.

  24. Lisa says:

    Why should it even matter?

  25. Jayna says:

She’s lost weight, but I think her face was prettier with a little more weight on. I don’t see any difference otherwise when she was on the morning show the other day. The one photo is heavily made up for a concert. I like her better more natural. Even other photos she seems to be caking on the makeup and the horrible lip-lining job in the other photo. It makes her look older, not fresh and young looking like before.

But that photo of her in the black and blue and pink jacket she looks beautiful. If that’s a recent photo, then the rest is she just overdoes makeup sometimes. I hope she stays away from botox. All it will do is freeze her eyes and they are aleady big with big lids. She doesn’t need that hard stare look these women get using too much botox She’s young so doesn’t need that stuff I don’t get these 20 somethings using botox and fillers. Look what happened to Lindsay Lohan’s face. Hopefully, Alexa Ray isn’t before shows and events thinking it makes her look better.

  26. Penelope says:

She looked so much prettier before all the work she “didn’t have.”

  27. Jh says:

    Yeah, ok.

  28. Maggie says:

I think she’s pretty in the before and after photos. Surprisingly because I find her dad to be so homely, bordering on ugly.

  29. Indira says:

She is SO gorgeous I’m not sure why she should have ever gotten surgery. Just goes to show how harsh we are on ourselves. I think she’s stunning.

  30. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

She looks a little like Susan Sarandon’s daughter.

  31. Dommeh Dearest says:

Doesn’t look like anything but her nose. Majority women post here, do they not know about contouring of makeup?

    • snowflake says:

no, i mean i’ve heard the term contouring and highlighting but i didn’t know how it works. how can i fnd out more about it

  32. Meghna says:

I believe her. It looks like weight loss and definitely amazing make-up. If you want to contour like that try this product. And the image goes to show how much difference good make up can make.

    http://www.anastasia.net/media/home-featured/Contour%20Kit%20Banner.jpg

  33. H.E.H. says:

She definitely looks different as the pics progress through the years…especially as of 2014. It’s hard to put your finger on just where (on her face) the change occurs though. I notice that her skin looks clearer, smoother, and darker as of late — and, let’s face it, it truly is remarkable what a little sun and a lot of makeup can do for our appearance.

  34. ParisPucker says:

Apparently, a slow news day…wtf cares.

  35. Suzy from Ontario says:

I believe it’s possible she didn’t have any work done. Girls faces can change a lot from their teens and early twenties as they get older and start losing the last of the “baby fat” that tends to stay on faces until the mid-late twenties. I really looked different at 27 years old compared to 17 or even 21. The face thins out a lot in many girls and their bone structure becomes more prominent, plus with makeup and different hair, etc…

  36. Liz says:

This girl is nuts. She was and is beautiful and has a very striking look. While her mother was a beautiful model, I think Alexa’s looks are much more of a head turner. Now Christie’s youngest daughter is just cute. She may be blond like Christie but that’s where the similarities end. Her son when I last saw him was a hottie.

  37. Amy says:

A nose job can completely alter a person’s face. Jennifer Grey anyone? (Not sure if Grey got any other work done, but when she got the nose job, she was unrecognizable to most people).
