Guy Ritchie ordered to refilm 5 weeks worth of Sherlock Holmes scenes

After initial screening of scenes from Guy Ritchie’s new film Sherlock Holmes were judged not up to Warner Bros. standards, he has been ordered to refilm them. The movie, starring Jude Law and Robert Downey, Jr., was rumored to be cursed after Downey was knocked unconscious and a petrol tanker exploded on set in separate incidents. The scenes were also shot during Guy’s public divorce from Madonna, and I’m not at all surprised that they weren’t up to Guy’s usual standard. Dealing with an unhappy Madonna has to put anyone in an uncreative mood.

Guy Ritchie was fuming last night after being ordered to re-shoot five weeks’ worth of scenes for his Sherlock Holmes film.

Warner Bros chiefs said the first cut was not good enough — and blasted one scene as “ridiculously unrealistic”.

Guy, 40, must now call back A-list stars including Jude Law, and is battling to meet the November release date.

A source said the scenes were filmed while director Guy was “distracted” by his divorce from Madonna.

The insider added: “It’s disastrous news, but Guy has promised to fix it.”

I’m actually very excited about this new film. Ritchie’s style has very quick cuts, quick dialogue, and quick plot twists. Two of his best are probably Snatch (starring Brad Pitt), and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. I’m wondering if that “ridiculously unrealistic” scene that Warner Bros. didn’t like was dubbed so because it doesn’t quite jive with the studios’ perception of what a Sherlock Holmes movie should be. Robert Downey Jr. may be in period costume, but the execs have to remember that they hired Ritchie to do the movie – and he has a style all his own.

i’m a big fan of guy ritch movies. I’m terribly partial to periwinkle blue 😉

Is Jason Statham in this movie?

The Madge curse. Difficult to imagine that his full attention could have been on the direction when all the divorce stuff was going on. If it’s not up to par, best he does spend time on it now and get it right – far too much below-par crap already hits the screens as it is. Would really like to see this do well for him.

I agree Geronimo. Even if you’re happy the marriage is over, divorce is still traumatic. Also he was facing the prospect of losing his kids/battling with Madonna over the kids, which must have taken a toll.

I think Guy style of film making is a one trick pony. He never goes beyond the quick cuts and gansters mode. He may be over his abilities here. anyone remember his last movie?? yeah I though so. ( it bombed quick )

  5. Ron says:

With his 78 million dollar divorce settlement, he has no worries.

Ugh, I love the Sherlock Holmes stories. It bugs me that they’re going to be mangled by Ritchie’s one-trick pony brand of suck.

    ….”they weren’t up to Guy’s usual standard.”

In which case, anything should do. His “usual standard” is crap. Its pathetic to use his divorce as an excuse.

HOW does this dude still get jobs?! He had ONE hit back in the 90s and since then has put out a steady stream of box office duds or straight to video crap, so the studio’s assessment doesn’t surprise me, what surprises me is that they hired him in the first place!
