Kristen Stewart thinks she would be ‘desecrated’ if she ever ‘sold out’ & smiled

KS4

Kristen Stewart’s dead eyes and blank expression took the September cover of Elle Mag. All of the clothes are Chanel (she’s the face of the Paris-Dallas collection) and the photoshoot took place at some sort of elite grocery store. It’s probably going with Karl Lagerfeld’s recent “People of Walmart” themed runway show, I guess. As for the Elle interview… ugh. You can read the excerpts here, and here are some highlights:

Stewart on letting her career evolve naturally: “Never at any point have I sat down and plotted how I should proceed from here on. As soon as you start thinking about your career as a trajectory—like, as if you’re going to miss out on some wave or momentum—then you’re never doing anything for yourself anyway. Then you’re truly, actually, specifically working for the public. You’re turning yourself into a bag of chips.”

Stewart on not being able to please all the people, all the time: “Now I feel like if I smiled for a paparazzi photo—not that I ever would—that’s exactly what people would be desecrating me for. They’d be like, ‘now you’re going to give it up, now you’re a sellout.’ like, okay. What do you want? What would you like?”

Stewart on when she realized how big Twilight would be: “The day the movie came out there was a picture of me—in the New York Post, I think. I was sitting on my front porch, smoking a pipe with my ex-boyfriend and dog. And I was like, Oh ****, well, I have to be aware of that.”

[From ELLE]

So hardcore, Lip-Biter. Never sellout! NEVER. Except when it’s for Balenciaga. And Chanel. And all of the ass-kissing she did post-Mini-Cooper to ensure that she would still have a career. While I don’t understand the “You’re turning yourself into a bag of chips” conclusion of that one answer (??), I really, really do not understand this: “that’s exactly what people would be desecrating me for.” I don’t think that word means what you think it means, Kristen. You are not a church, or a grave site or some holy place deserving of special treatment. I think she meant “disrespect” or “tear me down” when she said “desecrating.” Plus, she’s talking about smiling in candid photos!! For the love of God, Kristen. Don’t desecrate my mind with your nonsense.

…Because Twilight was The Queen Mother of all indies.

    • shanaynay says:

      lol!

    • stellalovejoydiver says:

right after Snowhite and the Huntsman

    • Mia V. says:

She’s so fucking dumb and rude! When the first Twilight movie came out, it was already a big hit book, so it was kind of obvious it was going to be a big hit movie, so if you didn’t wanted to be in all the 100 sequels, didn’t sign off. Or at least pretend to have some fun and do the shit right. Bella is annoying? Hell yeah. You could’ve read the book before signing for the part, so don’t complaing now that you are rich and famous and dressed in Chanel.

      • Algernon says:

It really wasn’t obvious it was going to be a big hit movie. It was Summit’s first solo feature as a studio, it was directed by a woman best known for genre indies, starring people no one outside the industry had ever heard of before. The books were best sellers, but they had not crossed out of the YA genre. I remember when Twilight broke out, it’s all anyone in LA talked about for weeks, it was such a huge surprise. Kristen says dumb/BS stuff a lot, but I think she, and everyone else, was actually blindsided by how fast and how big everything Twilight got.

      • Bob Loblaw says:

I agree with Mia V., it was obvious it was going to be huge. I’m not in the target demographic, and I would have to be paid to read the books or see any of the movies spawned from them, and I knew the movie would make bank and the “unknown” stars cast in it would be very famous.

    • Lady Macbeth (Hiddles F.) says:

      LOL

Btw she was that way even before. Maybe someone could explain to her that she could smile at people because it is beautiful to smile. Sellout? She already did, her brain seems quite out of her body.
I smile to everybody and I never saw a paparazzo in front of me lol

      • Bob Loblaw says:

I smile at people too, and try to be friendly. At lot of people are very rude and self-involved and there is nothing wrong with acting like a civilized person and making an effort to be kind and considerate to others. The world would be a much better place if people thought more about being nice to each other and less about being “desecrated” by smiling in public.

  2. Hawkeye says:

Something I notice about Kristen Stewart a lot is that she misuses words. I think it’d be a good idea to invest some of that Twilight cash in an education… or at least a dictionary.

    • bns says:

Yup, it’s hilarious. People think of her as smart because she throws around big words, but she often uses them in the wrong context.

And LOL @ her still trying to pretend that she isn’t as calculated as the rest of Hollywood. Give me a break.

    • Algernon says:

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

    • CTgirl says:

Yeah, I’ve been pointing out her misuse of words for a couple of years. She is really uneducated and not that bright. She may be “instinctual” according to directors but then again so is a feral pig.

I saw more photos of this spread and I have to say that the styling and fashion in the photos are, in KS terminology, an epic and iconic fail that desecrates her authentic self. It illustrates that design houses like Chanel own the fashion magazines rather than fashion magazines choosing the best out of each season and each collection. The photos look like Forever 21 threw up on KStew.

      • FLORC says:

Weren’t her parents in the “industry”? Her mother was/is a script editor or something to do with proper english skills? She is educated, but has likely not retained her knowledge. Or maybe i’m just a sell out for showing off my educated skills?
Ofcourse, for years I misused (had to spellcheck “misused”) words. Dilapidated and decapitated were interchangable. So, I feel i’m not one to judge that.

And you’re right. It’s a Forever 21 meets Trader Joes mess.

      • CTgirl says:

@Florc, KStew dropped out of school as an adolescent and was “home schooled” after that. Obviously, the home schooling didn’t take too well. Her mother was a script supervisor, a position that entails maintaining continuity. It isn’t a job that deals with proper English skills. If KStew was a 15 year old I don’t think that anyone would make a big deal about her inability to express a thought. But she’s in her mid-twenties and still can’t seem to string together a couple of sentences coherently.

    • JennySerenity says:

So true! She’s almost as bad as LiLo with her misuse of language. I wish she would just stop trying to use B-I-G words.

  3. Sam says:

I imagine 10 – 15 years from now she will have grown up some more, maybe went through a stint in rehab or perhaps had some minor issue with the law, learned how to better manage her PR and people will like her. She will be asked about her youth and she’ll say something like, “I was a kid. A stupid kid. We all go through it. Sitting on the porch smoking a pipe? C’mon. I was a try-hard. We were all try-hards at some point in our lives.”

    • jenny12 says:

I don’t think she’ll ever be that self aware because she’s too full of her own (perceived) importance. But it’s worth it to hope!

      • MeganDraper65 says:

So pretentious still. Well she can be a miserable c u nt——–her own words. One day she might recognize how try hard she was. (Agreeing with Sam)

    • Tiffany :) says:

Am I reading you right…do you think sitting on a porch smoking a pipe is trying hard? That isn’t a big deal to me. That is a pretty casual, common activity that requires no effort.

      • Ey says:

No, trying hard to put out a faux rebel badass image of herself by doing pot, cussing every fourth word, constantly claiming to not care what people think. Its the same thing alot of young 12, 13, and 14 year olds do because they think it’ll make them be taken more seriously and be thought of as grownups. Did you seriously think she meant ‘trying hard’ as in physical effort?

      • FLORC says:

Yea, not the act of having a pipe on the porch, but what image she wants to create by saying that in an interview. She’s rebelous in the same way many of us were. Only we grew out of it. She’s still young and still in that “enlightened because i’m high” act.

She and her whole road so far reminds me greatly of Shia Lebouf. He did some small and good movies, but nothing like Transformers. Post that he kind of started losing it. While he started many drunken battles post scandals KStew did the pr thing and was contained. I wouldn’t say she doesn’t have it in her to screw up again and go full Shia. They both rub me the wrong way.

    • Maria of MD says:

I was so damn serious when I was a teenager. Thank the fates, I aged out of that. A ready, bright smile and a sense of humor can make the whole difference – someone needs to tell her that.

  4. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

Its too late – Posh Spice already pulled this schtick.

  5. Jayna says:

Well, at 12, she was still a serious girl as far as demeanor as this casual interview shows. A lot of her is not put on that way, beyond some of the statements she makes trying to be deep and mysterious. It’s odd to see her at 12 and she was very reserved and mature for her age and doesn’t sound much different in the way she talks beyond raving about her dog. I didn’t realize she was the daughter in the Panic Room with Jodie Foster. Although, it’s funny to see her as a kid who loved surfing and had lighter hair, and a tan when she must have been on summer break, when I’m so used to seeing her with dark hair and pale skin.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_82uLixDHk

    • mimi says:

That’s a really cute video of adorable 12 yr old Kristen with her sunkissed hair and tan who was into surfing and skateboarding back then. Thnks Jayna for bringing it over here.

  6. Ali J says:

Meh. Could have been worse. Harmless.

  7. Jaderu says:

Kristen honey…you are a bag of chips. You’re crunchy and oily and afterwards peeps get a bloated feeling in their stomachs.

  8. jenny12 says:

This is why I can’t stand this girl. She thinks she’s hardcore or something, despite the appearances on high fashion, mainstream covers and in big budget films. Kristen, if you make these decisions and then act like a witch about them, you’re still doing the mainstream things and not getting credit for being indie. She wants to be more like Zoe Kravitz while quietly chasing mainstream fame and she can’t have it both ways.

    • Bob Loblaw says:

She doesn’t have it both ways, her “indie creed” is a fantasy in her head. She’s a spoiled, ill-educated child and her every interview reinforces that perception.

  9. Josephine says:

Here is my take-away on this gal: she’s very emotionally stunted, and probably intellectually as well. She reminds me very much of my fifteen year old self: thought I knew it all, thought I was so unique and misunderstood, couldn’t be bothered to think about others, etc…

She grew up in a bubble and has limited life experiences, so in a sense I get it. But she’s getting to the age where she needs to recognize these things and needs to develop as a person.

  10. OhDear says:

Her answers make no sense at all.

  11. MonicaQ says:

    Don’t disrespect chips like that.

    • PunkyMomma says:

Thank you. No trashing the chips.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Chips are all that and a bag of chips.

K-Stew wishes she was a chip.

      • Bob Loblaw says:

I buy chips all the time. I will never give up chips and salsa, pass me a mojito. I love carbs and I’m not ashamed to say it.

    • mia girl says:

      Respect the chips!

Especially when your interview exists only to support a fashion shoot in which you are posing in clothes you are paid to wear in the very place where chips are sold!

  12. nadia says:

    thank you.

haha, thank you. the only thing being desecrated here is the english language, Kristen.

  13. in_theory says:

I can’t help it – I like her for some reason, even though I detest Twilight and have never seen anything else with her in it. I think she’s beautiful and that it’s tragic that no one has taken the time to tell her how to use that face in a way that doesn’t look bored and dead-eyed. And I think she gets treated unfairly by Hollywood, but she’s hardly the first actress this is happening to.

About “desecrating” – you really shouldn’t use big words unless you’re certain of their meaning.

  14. Jane says:

You sold out to that director who you minicoopered, the fashion houses, studios and the paps you love to call but then pretend to hate.
This girl complains about fame that she badly wants as seen by appearing in these magazines while shilling overpriced fashion.

She’s Kanye, only he’s still more talented and entertaining. He hates the paps but is married to the biggest famewhore and Kristen does the same while doing everything to stay in the media and being the biggest cliche by banging the married director.

  15. Nola says:

Kristen’s biggest “problem” is that she doesn’t give out digestible sound bites. She never says cute, quotable things like her peers. And for a female entertainer this is paramount. Honestly if she were a dude people wouldn’t be so critically. However, this polarizing affect she has on the media and people is the very reason why she is so popular.

    • Jane says:

Kim Kardashian is also “popular” but that doesn’t make her really popular.
Also the excuse that she is crucified for being a woman is ridiculous. The media was kissing her ass until the scandal and her PR has done a pretty good job at whitewashing her skankyness and attitude even though she continues the same.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

They’re still kissing her ass. I mean, honestly, the worst thing I heard from the entertainment media regarding Kristin’s affair was when Will Ferrell called her a trampire on a talk show–Conan, I think.

I was a lot more ‘upset’ (as upset as one could be about gossip), when it was ROB who had to answer (albeit backhanded) questions about KRISTEN’S affair. Getting ‘advice’ from David Letterman. While Kristen was acting coy with the press that was asking her about her relationship with Rob.

I don’t think people should be crucified for affairs, especially in Hollywood–where an affair is small potatoes. But I just really, really, REALLY hate how the whole thing went down–that Rob took more heat for it than Kristin, imo.

      • Anname says:

Virgilia – And Rob never said one negative word about her – he handled himself with a lot of grade and dignity through the mess he got handed (not really relevant to this article, but worth saying!).

      • Ey says:

@anname And alot of her fans still crucify him on his interview articles and other things “for not coming to her defense when she needed him the most.”/ “not speaking up for her when he knows he cheated too” etc.

    • nadia says:

nooooo, she comes off just about the same as James Franco, maybe slightly less literate. (this is not a compliment)

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I’d say it’s a compliment because James Franco always sounds like he put as many big boy words into his sentences as possible, as well as rearranging the syntax order to make himself sound smart. Hint: he doesn’t.

    • cocos says:

digestible sound bites? how about sound bites that makes at least a little bit of sense and don’t come off as hypocritical and ridiculous?
I can’t stand James Franco but he at least makes kind of sense sometimes.
Is there a male actor out there that is just as bad or worse than her when expressing himself? I can’t come up with anyone.

    • T.C. says:

This has nothing to do with sound bites, she is uneducated and ignorant but pretends to be above it all while rolling in Channel contracts. Shailene Woodsley is the same. Pattinson is as hypocritical as them but he at least comes across as smart in interviews.

I like the pictures of her chained to Channel locks because it’s fitting of what she did to herself.

  16. Original Tessa says:

Did she mean decimate? She really needed to go to school. I don’t think she knows what half the words she uses actually mean. I read her poem. I think we all did.

    • booboocita says:

“Denigrate” would be more appropriate, and is probably the word for which she was reaching.

Grammar and word choice before I’ve had my morning coffee … well, la-dee-dah.

      • K says:

Yeah, I thought she meant denigrating, too. It’s kind of an entertaining malapropism though, as they go. I don’t hate her or anything but the Rupert Sanders/ her having been pretty thoroughly desecrated already jokes do write themselves.

    • Abbott says:

      Deficate?

  17. Faith says:

If only she could learn to act.

    • Anname says:

That’s something I can compliment her on. She has a presence, and although her personality seems to seep into every role she plays, she definitely has talent. I think she will do well careerwise.
For me it’s her personality that grates. She really seems to think that her feelings are so much deeper and more honest than everyone else’s. She is so serious all the time and never seems to have a sense of humor about herself. I think people would be more receptive to her if she could learn to lighten up a bit.

      • Lyn says:

Lol she is the one dimensional actor and has been playing roles that is so close to her real persona. Playing safe too much or else some of the gullible and clueless audience who thinks she can act will finally realize she is talentless and can’t act at all.

      • Jane says:

She can’t act. The critics who give her good reviews are living their Lolita fantasies through her and she only feeds on with her roles and behaviour.

      • jenny12 says:

        She’s one dimensional, IMO.

      • Faith says:

She has presence don’t get me wrong that’s a talent in itself but she can’t convey emotion and she has bad habits on screen. There is no difference in her characterization and no real deep emotion. Its funny how a bad actor with the right role can look like an ok actor but whenever watching her I can’t believe her and see no range.

      • Dani says:

If lip bight and huffing counts as acting, I deserve an Oscar. Blake Lively deserves an Oscar, too. K Stew isn’t even one dimensional.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

She can’t act, and she doesn’t have any sort of charisma to overcome any acting deficiencies.

Like Angelina Jolie is one of my favorite actresses. Not because she’s the best actress in the world, but because I always enjoy what she puts out (I think I only disliked that romcom she did while she was with BBT), and it seems like she always puts everything she has into a role, so that even if the movie is horrible, SHE’S always good.

Like that horrible Alexander movie, where she played as his mother–Olympias. The movie was long and shitty. I ended up fast forwarding through it all, to Angelina’s scenes, because even though her accent was weird (no clue what she was going for, except for the fact that she was an outsider in her own palace) she played Olympias to a T. She was great. I loved her.

Kristen doesn’t bring any of that to any of her characters. She always acts the same. And it’s not good acting either.

      • Anname says:

She consistently gets good reviews in her Indies – she is successful at playing young moody contemporary females. The best reviews of her life are in Sils Maria, where she is basically playing herself. I think she does badly outside of that range (like Snow White, not so good for her). Saying “she can’t act” sounds a bit hyberolic, I think she just has limited range.

There is some talk that she may start an Oscar campaign for Sils Maria – can you imagine the interviews she would give over those weeks?!

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

        @Anname
God, it would be Anne Hathaway’s Oscar campaign all over again. ALL OVER AGAIN.

      • Courtney says:

I thought she was good in Adventureland. Then I realized she was basically playing herself (smokes pot, cheats on boyfriend with married guy, bites her lip often, etc).

    • Jane says:

She also thought she would get an Oscar for On the Road. LMAO.
She plays herself, that’s the only way to find suitable roles.

  18. livan says:

I think she looks good actually!

  19. Ciria says:

It’s a smile, not selling your soul.

Please get over yourself, Kristen Stewart.

  20. Luisa says:

I get what she is trying say. If she were to smile for the papparrazi
They would critize her in the media. It’s unfortunate that her message gets lost because of her choice of words.

  21. Jane says:

Oy KStew, I don´t know about you being a bag of chips, but your brain seems to surely be a box of rocks.

  22. mfmaefh says:

    I love the photo shoot

  23. PunkyMomma says:

She still has those dead eyes. I don’t care how she’s photographed, her eyes are flat, her affect flat. I don’t ever recall a photo of her with any expression of joy in her face, whether it be a candid shot, or a photo shoot. Makes me always wonder.

  24. tara says:

She always comes off so defensive. Nothing convinces me more that you’re obsessed with your public image than spending years whining about how people are wrong about your public image. I think she knows she’s a sell-out and she’s always trying to justify it in her own mind.

  25. reba says:

Ok, for years I have been biting my tongue until it bleeds to restrain myself from commenting on this girl but she brings out the hate in me like no one else. I read these items because I am so fascinated that such an ugly, untalented bizatch could be so successful. And I am scared to death that she might become the biggest thing in hollyweird because, of course.
And she has the gall to ask ‘what do you want, what would you like’? Don’t you effing address your readership, viewership, or me in that way. What I would like is not to see her unavoidable, hateful face (the sneer, the sneer, please with the gaddam sneer!!!) ever again. Even though I think she may be half palatable (vampire) when she has a bit of a smile. Except she would need major surgery to correct the arrogant, jutting chin.
Yes, the arrogance!! She is like, ‘oh please, don’t be a fan, do I have to smile for the camera, oh how tiresome’. Well, bizatch, the fans are what get you the work. What do you think, Snow White, you make movies for the director? Give me a bloody break, trampire.
May this girl PLEASE vanish from the screen. She’d make a good waitress or manicurist. I can just see her there, scowling at the customers. Ugh.

    • Ruyana says:

yes, reba. You said it for me too. She is super-fake pretending to be “real”. And she can’t act at all. She’s always Twitchy McLipBite (hair flips included free of charge).

      • reba says:

        LOL
Usually I try to avoid being a hater, but this girl… I wish she would fix her attitude (and that her face would follow). Otherwise, would she please go away (and that her face would also follow).

  26. Deb says:

Does she even know what “desecrate” means?

Good lord, the queen of sellout won’t ever sell out.

  27. Van Rijn says:

I think she meant to say “eviscerated.” Looool.

  28. Jamie says:

She does look pretty on the cover. She’s giving her usual one-note expression, but she manages looks nice anyway.

The interview on the other hand… bleh.

  29. Corrie says:

I didn’t mind it. She uses words in the wrong context continually but she’s genuine. and just needs to work on interviews. Just like Rob btw. ha. Cute photos. She’s maturing. Its funny, because i agree that when she was much younger, she was more down to earth and much better communicating than she is now as a adult. I’m giving her til thirty for her to get out of her own bubble. She’s living in her head.

    • Rachel says:

She hasn’t matured at all. She’s been giving these same whiny “no one gets me, everyone’s mean, I’m an ARTIST” answers for years now.

The entitlement rolls off this woman in waves.

  30. Lara says:

    Where to begin?

    1. “Never at any point have I sat down and plotted how I should proceed from here on. ” Yeah cause SWATH & Balenciaga & Chanel were not planed career moves AT ALL.

    2. “They’d be like, ‘now you’re going to give it up, now you’re a sellout.’ ” But you are a sellout, dear, You’re on the cover of a magazine without anything whatsoever to promote.

    3. “The day the movie came out there was a picture of me—in the New York Post, I think. I was sitting on my front porch, smoking a pipe with my ex-boyfriend and dog. And I was like, Oh ****, well, I have to be aware of that.” And it never occured to you to be aware of not fucking married directors on the side of the road in a pap filled city?!

Oh, and yeah, KStew, please grab a dictionary before using words you don’t know the meaning of just to sound intelligent.

    • mia girl says:

Lara – that was my exact thought… Where to begin?

It’s just the same old uninspired and incredibly unoriginal thoughts about herself, cemented in her brain around the time of that Sean Penn movie and fermented over time by a combination of little education, fame and straight up immaturity.

Plenty of Hollywood types publicly defended her after her tryst with Sanders. And the payback they get from her is more petulance and defiance. These are the very folks who “plot and plan” their career trajectories. But hey, they are sellouts man. Stewart is a true artist.

Stewart has apparently learned nothing over these years and especially from her scandal. In fact, she’s doubling down on this image, constantly reinforcing it while her hypocrisy becomes more and more evident. And the irony is that it makes her the worst kind of sellout there is.

      • Starbuck says:

^^This is the sense I have always had. She has not changed or matured one iota. The more interviews she does, the more this will become even more evident. If anything, she will be worse than she was before. She has a publicist does she not? These quotes just make her seem like she firmly believes that she is so fabulous that her career will just happen for her because she is gifted and a such a true artist. Anyone who doesn’t plan their career, in any field, is just dumb. She is ignorance personified. She will do herself in again. With that arrogant attitude, ignorance, lack of education and stupidity – how could she not? She is an asshole – always was and continues to be. If Lainey is struggling to excuse the bs, think about what the general public’s impression will be? In the end, she just a self-serving asshole who thinks the public should be honored to watch her indulge in her “artistry”. Gross.

  31. stacey says:

So pretentious. Like being conscious and thoughtful about your career path and planning for the future is beneath her? You have got to be kidding me. I feel like she says that sort of bs so when her movies flop and her popularity continues it’s downward trajectory, she can say “well I never tried to be successful anyway. ” Because actually trying to be successful is such a bad thing, right Kristen? eyeroll

I hate her new hair, it’s awful.

  32. Gaby says:

She’s beautiful. Unfortunately, she takes herself way too seriously and she needs to read a couple of books, or better spend the whole summer reading to actually understand what words mean.

    Also, chips are the greatest.

  33. Yo says:

I think Kristen is victim of something here in Mexico we call “cantinflear” is a word approved for the RALE (Real Academia Española) and it means “Action and effect of speaking very much with scanty or void coherence”.

  34. InsertNameHere says:

    I’m thinking she meant “denigrate”.

  35. redvixen says:

So funny all these actors and performer who “hate and abhor” attention, but sign to be the faces of multimillion dollar campaigns.
If it’s so bad, get a desk job or do community theater.
So tired of the stupid attitude like they just don’t care, like yawna del dead eyes rey.

  36. Livan says:

For some reason I like her and want to defend her! She is not articulate or media-savvy. She seems insecure and does not like to smile in photographs and she is (somewhat) pretentious. She also had an affair with a married man, which is not especially nice. But I was like her when I was younger (except for the affair), and being like that is not fun but you usually change over the years..

  37. Ellie says:

It’s really amazing reading some of these comments. If she looked the paparazzi in the eye and gave a big smile for the camera, she would be torn to shreds so I completely agree with her point there. And for people saying she takes herself too seriously and is sooooo pretentious, you sure are ragging on someone an awful lot for misusing a word. It happens, but the endless mockery and sneering over it is what’s pretentious.

I don’t think she sits there and plots out where she is going to go next or what she is going to do next, and her eclectic mix of roles shows that (and of course if she did do such a thing, you’d all be here calling her cold and calculating). A project will land on her agent’s desk, whether it’s something commercial like Snow White or some small indie, whether it’s a comedy or a drama or a lead role or a small role. Sometimes it’s a well-known director, sometimes it’s a first time director. If the project means something to her or if she identifies with the character, she’ll take it. If she was so calculating as everyone says, you wouldn’t see such a quirky jumble on her resume, but that’s what she has. She does a variety of things. If she did sit there and always be planning what the next move is, you’d probably see a lot more consistency.

Where Twilight is concerned, she was 17 when she signed on to that role, and Twilight was NOT a guaranteed blockbuster. It did not have the massive fanbase when it was filmed. Both she and Pattinson have said for years that they didn’t know it would be as big as it was until Comic Con the summer before its release. It was not like Harry Potter or The Hunger Games, which already had built-in, bigger fanbases. Twilight had a small budget and I believe she has said that she thought it would be some weird little vampire cult movie.

I think she is far from manufactured and a “sellout,” despite the designer contracts for people she has been friends with for years, and which she discusses as being similar to an acting role and creating a “character.” I just find it astounding the level of venom some people spew at her from all ends. And I am pretty sure if she said the opposite of what so many of you criticize her for, you’d slam her anyway.

    • Miss Bennett says:

      Ellie,
None of this matters if she won’t learn to keep her mouth closed. She is not a victim of the press or of irrational, unfounded criticism. Miss Stewart brings this all on herself with her actions and words.
And the truth is, she wants to have it both ways. She wants to be an indie actress who’s anti-Hollywood and anti-establishment and still have the income from a Chanel contract. Chanel and other design houses and the magazine covers that go along with them are the definition of Hollywood and Establishment. Her hands are NOT clean, she plays the game just like the rest of them.
The best thing she can do is to sit down and have a discussion with her management team and talk about her career and her PR strategy. Because it does matter if the public can’t stand her and stays away from her films. This wave she’s riding from Twilight is over and she needs to make changes if she’s going to keep her career.

      • Ellie says:

        Miss Bennett,

Thanks for the reply. I am going to disagree with you a bit on the no “irrational, unfounded criticism” part. I by no means think she is a victim, but I do think people and the media can indeed be irrationally critical of her. She gets chewed out for saying things that plenty of other actors/celebrities say all the time. Example: She once said something along the lines of how actors are not saving lives or anything and in reality what they do is really not that important. Result? “Ungrateful, whiny, quit if you hate it so much.” Jennifer Lawrence (who I love btw) said that acting is stupid and it’s not like she is performing brain surgery or anything. Result? “Look at how grounded and REAL she is.” I do think that people tend to nitpick every word out of her mouth way beyond what they do to other actors and celebrities. I’ll take it another step and talk about the whole “Kristen never smiles and is so miserable and hates her job” thing. They just had a press conference for her new movie, and most of the media outlets ran stories using pics of her just standing there or with her admittedly resting bitch face. Go elsewhere, like a fansite, where they post many more pictures, and there are TONS of her with a big sunny smile and where she seemed genuinely excited about her new movie. There is definitely a public perception about her and I do think some of it is fed by the media.

As for her career, she is currently filming her sixth movie in the span of one year, and is about to go right into filming another one when this one wraps. Mostly indies, which is what she is definitely gravitating towards, but a few of them have bigger box office potential — American Ultra, which was acquired by Lionsgate; the one she’s filming right now, Equals; and the ones she filmed with Julianne Moore, Still Alice, which is adapted from a bestselling novel. One of the film sites did a sort of prospectus on the Twilight alumni (or maybe franchise alumni in general) and noted that she has more than enough indie cred to keep working for years. I’d say her career is just fine, especially within what she seems to want to do. I’ll also point out that she has never said she doesn’t like big films or blockbusters — she has said the opposite, in fact. She recognizes that she thrives more in indie movies, but that she grew up on blockbusters and again, if the role is right for her, she’ll do it. For all the crap she gets about complaining, she has NEVER complained about acting or making movies. She complains about the “dark side” of fame, something plenty of other celebrities do and yet manage to never get the same amount of crap she does for it. Last I checked, most people are not 100% satisfied with every aspect of their jobs yet wouldn’t just quit, especially if a big aspect is the fact that they do what they love.

As for being “anti-establishment,” I don’t see it that way with her. I don’t think she plans and calculates each and every move. I don’t think she sits down and says “well next year I wanna do this type of movie or work with that type of director.” I think if the right thing comes along, she’ll take it, whether it’s an indie movie, a Snow White type movie, or a Chanel deal. As for that Chanel deal, do you know how many celebs say they would never do that kind of thing, and then a year later do it? And guess what? They don’t get NEARLY the backlash she does from places like her. If you listen to her interviews from when she did the Balenciaga and Chanel shoots, she goes into a weird amount of detail on the “character” she created for those “roles.” Maybe BS to you, but I think she’s just quirky like that.

Anyway, sorry for the long post, and you might think I’m crazy, but those are just my thoughts.

  38. tracy says:

I love the photo shoot. And I personally find some actresses smiling and mugging for the cameras strange. I seems fake and staged. Those smiles could be totally genuine, but they sure look fake and staged. If the girl doesn’t want to smile, she shouldn’t. I doesn’t make her ungrateful or bratty, it makes her a woman, who doesn’t like the paps. I am hearing great reviews for Clouds of Sils Maria and Camp X Ray. The truth is, actors only owe us the performance on screen. If in their personal life they want to be grumpy, oily etc. (all the things Kristen is accused of) that is her business. For all the “happy and smiling for the pap” actresses out there, Kristen seems to be doing just fine, Balenciaga, Chanel and six new movies. As for using incorrect words, even educated people make that mistake. Love the girl.

  39. MM. says:

I will take Kristen over some of the nauseating nonsense for Jennifer Lawrence any day. I like Jennifer, but she is always ALWAYS saying something dumb, silly or inappropriate and very few people call her on it. And Shailene Woodley is always acting like she has a screw loose and the media gives her a pass.

I like that Kristen takes her self serious. It is her life to live as she sees fit.

    • Jane says:

Kristen says more stupid and offensive stuff than any other actress. She calls other actors sell outs while being one of the worst, she compared being pappd to rape, accused teachers of failing her for not being better educated even though she left school at fourteen, she fucked a married men in public and then went to say she doesn’t regret anything because she is honest with herself.

This bullshit how real she is, is nothing but empty talk from an insecure actress who wants to play in the big league but knows she doesn’t have neither the talent nor personality to pull it off.

  40. Lendy says:

I laughed out loud at the “I don’t think that means what she thinks that means” because I thought the EXACT SAME THING when I read the headline! Most actresses are so dumb.

  41. Hoo says:

Paps, Chanel, tabloids, Balenciaga, twilight, snow white, mini cooper, robesten,… Those words resume her amazing career. She was never able to be know for her work. She relies on the hollywood game to keep her name going. Why she is on the cover? because of chanel. Now she doesn’t have Robsten anymore she use anything she can to get press like Jen and her now ex bf (equals), tomorrow is going to be something else. Anything but her work but whatever kristen. Keep saying how you are not a sell out.

    • Ellie says:

#1 Chanel and Balenciaga ARE her work. She is paid by them, so it’s a job.

#2 This year alone she has been to two film festivals already and all she spoke about was her work and her movies. These are excerpts from an interview with Elle, a lifestyle/fashion magazine. You haven’t read the full interview yet. She has a movie premiering at the Toronto Film Festival in September (Still Alice), another one coming out in October (Cam X-Ray), another one in December (Clouds of Sils Maria, for which she most certainly caught the attention of many critics) and a fourth that will probably be shown at one of the fall festivals (Anesthesia). For the last year or so, she has been working non-stop. It’s nothing but work for her.

  42. aquarius64 says:

“Stewart on letting her career evolve naturally….” Translation: Her professional reputation has not fully recovered from SWATH-gate. Studios are giving her the side-eye because she in part almost took down two franchises because of her Mini-Coopering. She can’t be trusted to be involved in major movies because she’ll drag her personal life to work; thus bringing bad press to film projects. So her manager is earning his/her 10% by getting her fashion house gigs, magazine covers, and indie scripts. Stewart is making decent money, but she’s in career purgatory now.

  43. FWIW says:

I like the pictures and I think she seems like a good person trying her best. Don’t understand the hate she gets on here.

    • tracy says:

Go read other interviews by her then. I get freedom of speech and all that but when she constantly talks and judges people who don’t do things the way she does, (example: people who plot and plan their careers: not art, traipsing over the film, not going to end up happy, etc) You can give your opinion ’till your blue in the face but when you start making negative judgements and half a*sed assumptions about people who choose other ways of action than you, you’re probably going to get flack for it. Go read her words in her last interview about people who plan their careers.

  44. Jules says:

I truly loathe this girl….holy moly, how I can’t stand this girl. Terrible, terrible actress who has the emotional maturity of a blueberry scone. Apparently, her PR team is working overtime on the “romance” rumors between old dead eyes and Nicholas Hoult…who actually said Stewart is a “great actress”. I officially can’t stand him either now…it’s like he’s been tainted (LOL!).

  45. Janet says:

Those vegetables she’s posing with look more intelligent than she does.

  46. Blackbetty says:

Lol she sold out when she slept with her director

  47. Goodnight says:

I’m pretty sure she’s being sarcastic and just saying she’s going to get criticised no mater what she does… which is true. People just despise her. It makes me like her.

  48. Jag says:

She’s such a sellout that she doesn’t even realize that she’s sold out. Smiling isn’t selling out, Kristen. Jumping at the commands of all the design houses and other people who own you is.
