Miley Cyrus adopted a new pet pig named ‘Bubba Sue’: cute or bad idea?

Miley Cyrus

I can’t believe that I’m writing about Miley Cyrus so soon after for yesterday’s premeditated pee pose. We’re playing right into the twerkmaster’s clever plan, but this story bothers me. Miley has so many pets. The situation is coming to a head with her new pet pig, which she uploaded all over Instagram yesterday.

I have strong feelings about people treating pigs like accessories. It happens often enough with dogs and cats. Pigs have it even rougher. I think this is a “regular” pig in Miley’s arms, right? So it will grow much bigger and possibly become too much pet for Miley to handle. This could be even more disastrous than the case of the micro-pigs who were part of the 2009 Golden Globes swag bags. Celebrities were gifted “coupons” and only had to attend an hour-long seminar to adopt these pigs. For real. I heard of one situation where an attendee cashed in his coupon and kept the pig for a few weeks. He and his family were delighted that the piggie was so cute. Before too long though, piggy was shipped off to god knows where.

Anyway, I hope Miley is responsible with this pig. She’s named it Bubba Sue and seems attached already, but her track record with pets is spotty. Miley just lost her favorite dog, Floyd, in early June. (This wasn’t the first dog she lost under similar circumstances.) She wisely waited three months to adopt a new dog. She started showing off Emu for the paps a few weeks ago. Emu is now the fourth dog in Miley’s current cache. Four dogs should be more than enough, right? Now Bubba makes five.

The pigs nails are painted, is that safe?

I would never get a pig, I love bacon too much.

Non meat eaters, please don’t yell at me.

    • Jaderu says:

If it’s nail polish designed for pets (I hope it is) it’s non-toxic.

    • Liv says:

I can’t believe that she painted the pigs nails. She’s really that stupid. Pigs are really cute and I think they are pretty intelligent too. What a shame that a popstar is able to get one just because she wants to. Probably just a matter of time until the dogs or the pig get hurt again. I don’t even have to be a therapist to know that she obviously tries to fill a void.

    • NoName says:

haha I know you asked us not to yell at you, but it’s funny that you’re worried about the safety of pig nail polish but then not worried about how the pig-before-it-became-bacon was treated.

Morning Star has a ‘facon’ that is really great.

it looks so creepy to me…not cute at all. Reminds me the guy from the Fifth element who had that weird little elephant creature around his neck đŸ˜€

She always gets a new a pet and is in love with them for awhile then forgets about em

  3. in_theory says:

Pigs, no matter how cute they are, are animals, so you don’t paint their toe nails. That’s just f’ed-up. I was already disgusted with how Miley tongue-kisses her dogs, so this doesn’t surprise me.

    • Sabrine says:

Probably vegetable dye on it’s nails. Still though, the poor thing is going to be hundreds of pounds when it’s fully grown. Long before that happens and after it loses it’s cuteness, it will be shipped off to the stockyards and end up on someone’s plate as crispy bacon or tasty pork chops.

    • Pumpkin Pie says:

      She tongue-kisses her dogs ??????????????

One of my best friends has a pot belly pig. First of all, it is HUGE. Easily 150- 200 pounds. Good luck travelling with that thing. Second, it’s not that nice. It does (kind of) get along with the dogs, so I guess Miley has that going for her.

Another friend I grew up with lived on a farm, and they had real pigs which were even bigger and meaner and dirtier. This will not end well.

  5. eliza says:

Personally, I feel that unless you live on a lot of land or in a rural setting, owning pigs, mini horses, fainting goats etc is somewhat cruel.

And why in the heck are the pigs hooves painted? #PetOwnerFAIL.

  6. Kiddo says:

I hope that adorable pig is safe around her dogs, or whatever predator killed her smaller dogs.
    Baby pigs are so lovely.

I’m not as worried about Bubba Sue in the Cyrus family as I would be with another celeb. Billy Ray has a lot of acreage. Bubba Sue can probably have a happy pig life on the farm, and better than other pigs because she probably won’t get eaten. Now if BS (haha) had to live in an apartment, I’d worry

People need to stop giving/selling/buying This girl, animals…

  9. Sonya says:

A friend of mine (who is a huge dog lover and has quite the pack – but they are loved and well taken care of) just adopted a pig. He said it gets along wonderfully with the dogs and that as a pet it is similar, but smarter louder and more determined.

My neighbors across the street have a son about 8 years old. Two weeks ago I saw him up the block walking something on a leash. I thought it might be a micro piglet, but not sure. A week later I saw him and his mother and sure enough the piglet. She said they make great pets, and she already has it house broken. Yesterday morning my windows were open and I heard it squealing as the son was walking it. I live in Queens NY and hearing that was just so odd. My daughter has her mind set on getting one herself, she absolutely loves them.

Miley’s piggy looks adorable though, the ‘smile’ is too cute. He wont be smiling after he realizes what a knucklehead his owner is.

  10. Mika says:

Yeah, it’s cute now but wait shit only gets real when the pig gets bigger than the dogs..

  11. Murphy says:

Its horrible b/c now everyone’s going to run out and buy a piglet–forgetting that its a baby and that it will grow into a much bigger pig. Even if its a pot-belly pig its going to get bigger. It’s not like taking care of a dog–there’s going to be a lot of irresponsible pig ownership in the near future. Hundreds of innocent pig victims.

    • Nicolette says:

Unless it’s a micro piglet, they stay small and have become popular pets.

      • Mixtape says:

There is no such thing as a micro piglet–these are just pigs bred by puppy-mill type breeders from smallish parents that the breeders hope will stay similarly small. It rarely works out that way. In addition, under most municipal codes, all breeds of pigs count as livestock or barnyard animals and aren’t legally allowed to be kept in residential housing without a permit.

      • ol cranky says:

thanks for that @mixtape there are loads of very large “micropiglets” and other farm animals people bought because they thought it was cute that are now in rescue because the cuteness wore off or the animal got too big

  12. InvaderTak says:

That’s not a pet. That’s livestock. Just like cows and horses and chickens. They do not belong in a house. I don’t care that they were bred to be pets. They are not meant to be pets. This is part of the reason farmers/ranchers tend to hate animal activist groups; they get attacked one day and asked to take animals that came from people like Miley the next. The activists don’t seem to get that you can’t treat all animals the same. Dollars to dog biscuits she’ll take it to a farm or “animal rescue” when it gets too big.

  13. kri says:

What a coincidence that she named it Bubba Sue-that is what I call Miley in my head. Perhaps the pig represents her alter ego? I am all for people adopting animals-so many need a good home. Hopefully the pig will end up with her dad-I’m sure he has a farm. The dogs do look v.healthy and happy, tho. Pet nannies must be working hard.

  14. Green Is Good says:

You know what’s a bad idea? Cyrus wearing red lipstick.

  15. Ginger says:

I love pigs so much I had to stop eating pork. They are super cute and just as (if not more so in some cases) smarter than dogs. My favorite feel good video is of a Hawaiian pig surfing with his owner. All this being said I know from experience how large they get. It’s probably a recipe for disaster to have a smart, full size pig running amok with four dogs. I predict Bubba Sue will be gotten rid of at some point.

  16. Marianne says:

I absolutely love piggies and would want to own one so part of me might be a tad jealous that she gets to snuggle with one and I don’t.

However, I have to wonder how she really feels about all these animals. I mean, it just seems like she’s more interested in “collecting” them. Like how can you properly take care of ALL of them especially when she’s so busy.

  17. Elizabeth says:

Lipstick on a pig is still ….. Oh nevermind.

  18. Mixtape says:

I have only seen three episodes of Honey Boo Boo in my life, but they dealt with a baby pig and I thought they were very educational about the realities of trying to make a pig a pet. The family got a piglet just like Miley’s from a local farmer, and at first he was cute, but he quickly became very loud (middle-of-the-night bleating capable of waking a family that sleeps with a train running through their yard), destructive, and needed to eat nonstop. They finally returned the pig to the farmer, where it is much happier, and now they just visit it occasionally. I had to give the producers props for telling the whole story (the pig could have just “disappeared” from the show) and, hopefully, dissuading others from making the same mistake.

At least she isn’t popping out kids!
