Many of you seem totally “over” the speculation on Beyonce and Jay-Z’s allegedly rocky marriage. But the speculation is going to continue. For a while. Probably another five weeks or so. The bulk of Bey and Jay’s On the Run tour is over and they’re taking a vacation right now, but they have to go to Paris in September for their final On the Run shows, which will be filmed by HBO for a concert special. HBO released the first teaser commercial for the special yesterday:
I love “Bang Bang” (originally recorded by Nancy Sinatra) and I think this is a cool version. I hate the constant theme (in music videos, commercials) of Beyonce performing for Jay-Z while he sits around and smokes and watches her. I guess we’re supposed to be turned on by the voyeurism, but they do it so much, it’s gotten sort of boring.
And in case you think HBO is going to do a “warts and all” concert-diary sort of special, not so much. The special will be almost entirely performance-based. We will not get to see the behind-the-scenes side-eyes or the fights. They just have to keep it together until September 20th, which is when the HBO special airs. After that… maybe. Maybe we’ll get a divorce announcement. But not before then.
Also, something to look forward to: Beyonce at the VMAs this Sunday. She’s performing, she’s up for a million awards and she’s also receiving the Video Vanguard Award. Will Jay be there too? Will she perform “Partition” while he watches from the audience? Or will he be on stage with her for “Drunk In Love”?

I’m 100% convinced that this drama was set-up by B and J. These two are master manipulators and this drama guaranteed that they would be in the media all through their tour leading up to this special where they will dispell any problems between them.
B is a glorified kardashian in a lot of ways and she truly follows their method of generating drama to keep themselves in the limelight.
Are you certain she isn’t desperate enough to mess with her fans? Because I think that being old hat in the business, turning (OMG!) thirty, and going on hiatus to have a child (supremely unsexy) has made her desperate enough to try anything. Look at how overtly hookerish and oversexualized she’s gotten lately. I feel like I’m at a strip club. To what motive can that be attributed? She reeks, absolutely reeks, of desperation.
I agree with your analysis. I used to really like Beyoncé. She seemed to keep her private life private, had talent, and, while she was a provocative performer, she wasn’t “hookerish and oversexualized” like she is now.
When a talented singer stoops to the levels of “performance” that she has given lately, it may garner attention but, imo, it damages their worth in the bigger picture.
I feel like her image cracked when she fired her father. I always found him…I don’t know, too controlling, a bit shady – but really, her image took a toll when she got rid of him. I really liked her when she was with Destiny’s Child and around the time she put Crazy In Love out. Today she seems like a narcissistic machine who needs to show off her body all the time.

I watched it with the volume off (sleeping ppl around me), expecting to be at least dazzled by some very high production value. But I was not! Your description is right on. How sad. I thought they were doing some innovative work recently but that preview made it just seem like a cheesy rehash of every MTV video ever made.

Yeah seriously, that was truly awful. She doesn’t project an ounce of brooding, melancholy, wistfulness, nothing that is needed to sing that song. It’s kind of a pun on an old mournful tale of the Wild West. Put some drama into it!
Agreed! I was not impressed. I don’t like how she put a sexy spin on it, but I only watched the short soundbite from the video. Maybe if I heard the full length version without the video I may feel different.
No chemistry at all between these 2. I think she is hot when she performs usually, but when he is with her it is just blah.

I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one who felt this way while watching that clip. I saw it last night before True Blood and the only thing that came to mind was a feeling of disgust. It’s such a misogynistic picture. Her being his eye candy for sexual pleasure as he sits back and puffs on his cigar. It just boggles my mind how this woman can talk about feminism, when her idea of feminism is being sexually subservient to a man. It would have been awesome if Jay was the one performing as she sits back and appreciate him. But no one wants to see a camel give sexy faces, so whatever. I’m really sick of these two assholes. I really am.

My theory is all the rumors have been planted by them to give the tour some buzz because besides the rumors we wouldn’t be getting so much info about every leg of the tour. I’m not saying I think they are really happy but I think it would take a lot for Bey to breakup the merger.
