Chelsea Handler had a star-studded send off for the last episode of ‘Chelsea Lately’

wenn21515947

Satan’s human form, Chelsea Handler, has officially retired from her E! show, Chelsea Lately. Unfortunately for all, she’s going over to Netflix where she will reportedly be doing a similar kind of celebrities & gossip show, only for less money (apparently and fewer viewers). So, a demotion? That’s what I think, but other people act like Chelsea is finally moving into the big leagues, so what do I know? I’m just happy that she’s not going to be on a cable outlet anymore and that she didn’t get any of the open late-night gigs on network TV.

So, to send Chelsea off, all of her friends (“friends”) came out to celebrate her on her last show. Here’s one part where Mary McCormack, Jennifer Aniston and Sandra Bullock do an “intervention” for Chelsea. Who is the most Botoxed one in this segment?

Eh. I stopped watching halfway through Aniston’s thing.

And here’s Chelsea’s star-studded send-off. Avril?! Avril singing about Chelsea pretending to care about Kim and Kanye is pretty meta. RLY AVRIL?! And LeAnn is there too.

Oh, well. Good riddance, Chelsea.

PS… I don’t think any of us even talked about Chelsea’s awkwardness at the VMAs, right? I wanted to ignore it, but here you go. She thanked Taylor Swift for “being so white”. Ugh.

I had no idea it was her last show and I don’t care.

    • heidi says:

Leann Rimes sang after Sam Hagar and had the best voice—well she and Fergie

      • No Chance says:

Rimes was the ONLY one there who’s every single word was unintelligible.

        Garbled noise and shrieks.
Didn’t you see the other’s cringe?

        Ugh !

  2. Abbott says:

    Bye, Felicia.

  3. Lori says:

glad she’s gone. Might have to cancel my Netflix subscription.

    • JudyK says:

I find her downright homely, but a lot of that probably has to do with her more than obnoxious personality.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I find it interesting how personality, rather than looks makes you feel about a person. Like if Chelsea Handler was part of my mom’s side of the family (dear Lord), she could easily be one of my crazy (read: AWESOME) great aunts that travels with her beer in the back of her truck, in a freaking cooler. No joke. She’s like seventy years old, hasn’t shaved her mustache in the past twenty years, wears a bajillion diamond and gold rings on both hands, used to smoke pot with my mom, and has ME go get her a cold beer out of her trunk every once in a while.

She is not beautiful (not anymore), but she is awesome…

      • CG says:

@Virgilia I feel the same way! Like Mario Lopez is obviously conventionally attractive, but because of his personality he just completely grosses me out. Never in a million years would I hit that!

And OMG is that Tim Gunn in the video clip? Is he friends with Chelsea???? Because I totally love him and will actually be kind of upset if he is friends (as opposed to professionally courteous) with someone like that! 🙁

  4. Loopy says:

Yes the VMA’s i am actually surprised that didn’t create more reaction, i think everyone has now numbed to her racist comments.

  5. Kiddo says:

I thought about watching for a sec, with previews, and then promptly forgot about it. What were the ratings like?

  6. NewWester says:

Never watched her show and after reading articles on Celebitchy and other sites, I am not missing anything.

  7. JoJo says:

Just watched this whole clip. I can’t stand her, and worse, I’m constantly shocked and perplexed about why these actresses associate with her. It’s sad, but I kind of lose respect for all three guests – I thought their skits were really crass and SO NOT funny. What’s also weird is that some of their skits really rang true – Aniston saying Chelsea is dirty and Sandra saying she’s not funny at all. Ugh – I’m so glad this woman is going away.

    • eva says:

Maybe its a, if she’s with us, she’s not agaisnt us type of thing.

      • Sozual says:

I just think they are all female comedians, so they are trying to promote the female comedian. They all have the same promoters. Huvane or somebody. They all know the comedy industry is not popular anymore. No one goes to see comedies in theaters any more. I also think that people like Bullock don’t watch or read what is online.

  8. MrsBPitt says:

wow….Out of all that, I cannot believe how UNMOVEABLE Sandra Bullock’s face is….Hate Handler, hope her Netflex show dies, and she is never heard from again….

    • Luca26 says:

No ones face on that stage moved. It was slightly nightmarish.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Sandy is the worst offender. She’s in Courtney Cox territory.

    • Sacred And Profane says:

MrsBPitt: And, yet, only a couple of days ago, I saw a little thing on Australian TV, and a small write-up, endorsed by that Dr Oz person, spouting how Sandra Bullock has never had any facial work done. The story/ad claimed she uses some miracle cream to keep her looking 20 years younger than she is. It’s really an insult to our intelligence to assume we’re simply going to swallow such garbage. I’m not bothered if women want to meddle with their faces, but to blatantly lie, when the “enhancements” are so obvious, in an effort to have us believe it’s all down to creams, good living and great genes infuriates me.

    • Sozual says:

I thought whatever she has done her face looked good.

  9. PunkyMomma says:

    Ciao and adios Chelsea.

  10. Gina says:

I watched it, and was genuinely surprised how many A-listers came out for her last show. Ellen, Gwen Stefani, Gerald Butler, Alanis Morrisette, Dave Grohl, Selena Gomez, Melissa McCarthy, Tim Gunn, Miley, Kate Beckinsale, Joel McHale, etc.

Now a bad send-off for someone so reviled.

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Too bad none of them could help her shitty show stay on air…….

I’m guessing that Ellen and Gerard Butler came on because of Jennifer (don’t know any previous relationship with Handler), and Joel McHale came on because of E!…..

    • starrywonder says:

Please besides Ellen and perhaps Melissa McCarthy and Mley depending on who you are talking about are A listers in that group?

      • No Chance says:

Bullock, Anniston, Ellen, Beckinsale, McCarthy, Butler, and a few dozen others.

        Rimes is D-list. Odd choice.

    • BNA FAN says:

I did not know Selina Gomes, Tim Gunn, Gerald Butler, Joel McHale, Ect were considered A lusters, lol, IMO, Most of the people there were B, B- C and D listers.

    • Artemis says:

This is why I think she’s here to stay. She obviously doesn’t care because no matter what she says or does, she has A-listers being chummy with her. She even said she didn’t like to interview celebs yet they still kiss her ass. I am very curious to see where she takes her career because for some odd reason, Hollywood embraces her.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

That IS interesting–she said that she was tired of interviewing celebs…..and then has a whole bunch of celebs give her a send off on her last show. What? Did all the real comics tell her to go see a c-u-n-t????

      • Gina says:

@Artemis, exactly. People thinking that because they don’t like her or don’t think she’s funny (or are defending Angelina) that she’s some nobody who’s career is in the toilet. That just isn’t reality.

She’s made it. She’s successful. I think it bugs some people, because it doesn’t seem fair, but that’s Hollywood for you.

I find her amusing in small doses, and her books are pretty fun.

@Virgilia ‘Did all the real comics tell her to go see a c-u-n-t????’ Huh?

      • FingerBinger says:

It isn’t just A-listers. Whether we like it or not Chelsea has fans. Plain and simple.

      • Luca26 says:

@Gina I’m not going to comment on whether or not all of those people like her but they all have the same representation (CAA) in common. I’m betting for some of the people who appeared on her show it was more a favor to the agency then about personal ties.
As for her move to Netflix it is at best a lateral move but considering she has a failed movie and sitcom behind her I think calling it lateral is generous. The woman works really hard and she isn’t going to go quietly but she definitely peaked a few years back.

      • Candy Love says:

@ Artemis and Gina I disagree the only thing she was really successful at her standup? and book. She sleep with the main guy at E! to keep the E! show, and her rating have been down for the last 3 or 4 years. She tried to do a sitcom and failed and she also tried to be a movie star and failed at that also.

As for her A list guest most if not all her A list friends and the people kissing her ass have the same PR guy and are apart of CAA management just like she is. So they all help each other out she give them a softball interviews and dosen’t talk about the stupid thing they say or do like she would other guest. In return they come on her show and kiss her ass and make her look good.

Gerald Butler, Alanis Morrisette, Dave Grohl, Selena Gomez, Tim Gunn, Kate Beckinsale, Joel McHale aren’t A listers.

      • Artemis says:

        @Candy Love:

Don’t you think she made it quite far despite all of that??? You mention a book deal, appearances in films, opportunities for a sitcom. Seriously, can you not notice the opportunities she gets despite being not liked and failing in several areas?

Why the hell would PR people kiss her ass when she doesn’t really have that much going for her? When she is clearly not popular? Who benefits? Seemingly only Handler, the one with the LEAST power and talent. So she’s doing a good job to stay relevant and you just pointed that out even though that wasn’t your intention.

Besides, you seem to missing the many times she and Theron, Witherspoon, Aniston AND Bullock, all very much A-listers with a lot of clout have been seen with her in their personal time. She is TIGHT with them and that falls outside of their PR. Theron, the crusty bitch even told her about her adoption (she was one of the first to know). Aniston might be the only one who really flaunted their relationship but the other ones have been known to hang out with her and Bullock especially.

The A-listers really make up for the B-listers you mentioned. Fact is, she ain’t hanging out with people who aren’t famous for being famous. All the people you mentioned are respected to a certain degree. If she’s hanging out with Paris HIlton, then I might reconsider.

    • doofus says:

I know people don’t like her but I have to wonder, how much of her shtick is just that…a shtick?

like, all of her nastiness and controversial statements are for her public persona, sort of like Howard Stern, and she is actually a good friend to her actual friends? if she were really a nasty person, why would all of these (A-listers or however people want to categorize them) famous people take the time to do this?

I personally don’t find her funny (I tried watching her show but was bored) but who knows what she’s like in private? as has been proven over and over, hollywood folks are NOT always like how they portray themselves in the media. Julia Roberts was “America’s Sweetheart” for along time, and it turns out she’s kind of a b*tch. Same for Reese Witherspoon and plenty of others.

      • BNA FAN says:

I’m thinking CH is even more racist when she is with her friends at home than on the show. Very disappointed in Sandy being friends with the racist CH. Not disappointed in Jennifer being there because CH has had dreams for Jen and her X to get back together. That’s CH own words.

      • Bridget says:

Some of it is a shtick. She tries to be outrageous and provocative, but part of the issue is that it is just not funny and it makes her come across so incredibly badly. As much as people want to make her out to be the devil, the truth is she’s just a really un-funny comic.

The other issue, though, is that she’s well known for partying hard, and you can tell over the years that its really impaired her judgement. Mix that with the fancy friends she met through her agent and her television show, and you have a recipe for her very unfunny jokes to be repeated on a wide scale.

      • Colleen says:

I will start by saying I am fan of CH but I haven’t watched the episode yet. I think most of it is shtick. She constantly takes her friends and co-workers and family on vacations all on her dime. She has set up college funds for their children as well. She is an animal lover and gives alot to charity. I happen to enjoy her comedy but I don’t really think that is the her real personality, just like Howard Stern. And no I’m not a Howard fan, I could take or leave him. Maybe some of CH friends are using her for all the freebies, but alot of comics and/or celebrities from her show have done quite well after the exposure. So even if she is truly a horrible person she has done alot of good things for alot of people.

      • doofus says:

“I’m thinking CH is even more racist when she is with her friends at home than on the show.”

of course you do…other than your obvious dislike for her (and anything JA-associated), what’s your basis for that?

” As much as people want to make her out to be the devil, the truth is she’s just a really un-funny comic.”

yeah, that’s how I see it, too.

      • Bee says:

Calling someone a c*nt is not being funny, it is being nasty & cruel.
Calling a child a trans is not funny.

      • Bridget says:

@Bee: the question wasn’t whether or not some of her comments are funny, rather if her obnoxious public person is a schtick. Whether or not she’s being deliberately outrageous because she thinks it’s comedy, rather than reflecting a personal worldview.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

I think a lot of it is a schtick but she doesn’t do a good a job of balancing the rude humor with moments of sincerity and graciousness.

Howard Stern has really mastered the art of being shocking and still somehow really sincere in a way that endears himself to his audience. Chelsea should follow his lead.

BTW, people have accused of Howard of being a racist and he’s continuously expressed on his radio show how untrue that is and much that hurt him.
Has Chelsea ever addressed that issue in an honest and heartfelt way? I know her show format isn’t the most conducive to something like that, but surely she could give a prologue or at least address it in an interview.

      • doofus says:

“I think a lot of it is a schtick but she doesn’t do a good a job of balancing the rude humor with moments of sincerity and graciousness.”

good point, and this is likely why people think that she really IS like her stage persona.

      • Bridget says:

@OKitt: doesn’t one need a heart to be heartfelt?

And I agree with you on the need for balance, and to me that is a result of her not being particularly funny on her own and therefore leaning on her schtick. Stern is an interesting example to use, and I think what helped him a great deal was to get off of terrestrial airwaves daily. When his persona wasn’t constantly present for people to make a big deal out of, there was finally room for the more ‘real’ aspects of his personality to come out. Chelsea is different in that she *needs* that press. Her audience peaked a while back, and she constantly needs to flog whatever she’s selling, and part of how she does that is her presence on entertainment and gossip blogs. She’s raised her profile there, and part of which is by saying deliberately provocative things that’ll get her even more press.

      • No Chance says:

        All of it.

Only fools don’t understand scripted satire when they encounter it.

    • Erinn says:

Wait… Dave Grohl AND Tim Gunn – my Music husband and TV Uncle!? (Yes this is weird, I don’t care haha)

I almost want to watch it just for them 🙁

    • Sal says:

Apart from Ellen, I’d say those you listed are C-listers (with a couple of D listers in there). NONE bar Ellen are A listers. Not…one. Now if there were Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep etc, then yes. But apart from Aniston and Bullock, she only attracts C, D and some E listers to her show. That says a lot about how she IS reviled.

  11. Sullivan says:

Go. Just go. And stay gone.

  12. kri says:

The only thing I take away from all of this is what a sh*t pit E! network is. Now if they only got rid of the Frankendashians….

  13. lisa2 says:

I guess BAD THINGS do finally come to an end.

  14. Adrien says:

I only clicked on this article because i want to know if Chuy was there.

  15. Lucy2 says:

I still don’t understand why Netflix hired her. I watched her show a little bit in the beginning years ago, and it started off okay but got pretty bad. And she’s just not a likable person. I still wish, if Netflix wanted a talk show, they’d hired Craig Ferguson.

    • FingerBinger says:

She probably has more creative control at Netflix. She probably has a deal to produce her own shows. There’s any number of reasons why she went to Netflix. Howard Stern went from terrestrial radio to paid subscription radio and he’s done very well.

      • Bridget says:

Its not hard to guess why Chelsea went to Netflix – her fishing expeditions for the CBS and Comedy Central jobs were squashed down immediately and she probably didnt have a ton of options. The question is why Netflix went with Chelsea, since a topic show like hers doesn’t really fit well with their viewing model.

      • lucy2 says:

Agree Bridget. She/her PR tried spinning the CBS jobs her way and it didn’t take, no surprise she jumped at any offer. But Netflix’s reasons are what I’m wondering about. I just feel like there are so many better choices out there.
I’m not even sure how a talk show would fit in with their business model, unless they’re hoping to have people tuning in nightly/weekly/whatever this is, vs binge watching their content.

    • No Chance says:

      Money $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
In short, she creates earnings for investors.

She signed a $10 million a year contract be exact, plus huge profit points. Kimmel and Fallon each also earn $10 million per year.

Her earnings are quite impressive. She also earned from $10-12 million a year on “E”, meaning she earned the network’s investors $100’s of millions.

      Hollywood is a business.

P.S. – Healthy people read entertainment articles about people and ideas they enjoy, they don’t seek to profess hate or comment negatively about strangers they dislike or worse, an actress’s scripted persona. Mirror anyone?

  16. Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Okay, I watched the video–the one w/Jennifer, Sandra, and Mary. It seems that the underlying theme of this send off was for Chelsea to be herself–whether she be a drunk, have bad hair (in Jennifer’s point of view 😉 ), and isn’t cool (or a lesbian). I found that funny, because by having Jennifer and Sandra on (don’t know how long she’s been frenemies with Mary) she has become the antithesis of what she set out to be, in doing her show. Especially since she’s become friends with celebs. Didn’t she say she doesn’t make fun of her friends? Well…..

And how funny was it when she introduced them and said that they’d been on the show ever since she started? Mmmm, again, maybe Mary was….but Jennifer didn’t become frenemies with her before the fall of 2009 (when she first went on the show to promote ‘Love Happens’, after Handler was picked up by CAA), and Sandra after that.

    • No Chance says:

The speeches were each scripted PARODY, you analyzed the words of comedy writers.

      Amazing.

Did you also just attempt to ascertain your version of when these people became friends? You do realize you don’t know them, don’t you?

Also, never start a sentence with “Okay”, unless you’re a high school student in the San Fernando Valley.

  17. don't kill me i'm french says:

    Good for her!

  18. Hmmm says:

Didn’t she go on vacation with Sandra Bullock recently? I don’t know but somehow I get lesbian vibes from her.
Don’t really get mean vibes from her, I think she is just very frank and No-BS.

  19. Melibea4ever says:

Goodbye Chelsea, don’t let the door hit you on your way out!

  20. Jess says:

I like Chelsea from time to time, she doesn’t kiss too much ass and tells it like it is, I’m surprised so many celebs showed up for that reason! Especially LeAnn Rimes, Chelsea just ripped on Eddie for being a gold digger. I also couldn’t understand a single word LeAnn sang.

    • briargal says:

I read comments on another site saying the same as you–noone could understand anything she sang. Even captioning didn’t show what she was singing. Apparently they couldn’t figure it out either. Yet a few stupid people actually PAY to hear mumbling??? Also what facial expression did Leah Remini make???

      • Byte Me says:

        That was Leah cringing.

      • Jess says:

Ha, I noticed Leah’s face as well, she had the same look I’m sure we all did trying to figure out what the hell LeAnn just garbled, and what was with her hand gesture shushing Alanis?? That was rude and uncalled for, especially when she can’t even enunciate properly.

      • Byte Me says:

@Jess..I took that as Leann telling Alanis to take it down a notch. I got a real insecure vibe from Leann when the camera was on her.

    • julie says:

I watched the video a few times and could not understand a word LeAnn said. She just warbles. She just didn’t seem to fit in there. She looked uncomfortable in her skin, the skirt was fugly, and once again she tried to take that moment away from someone (Alanis) and become the focus of the moment with her *tone it down* hand movements. It’s always just me me me with her. Chelsey could of said she was the biggest whore in town and LeAnn would still have shown up to get her 2 minutes of camera time. She is disgusting and such a has been. As for Chelsy… Not a fan of hers, but I wish her success with her new show with Netflicks or wherever she is going. Leah said on twitter the face she made was not directed at LeAnn. Sure could of fooled me. lol. Don’t feel bad Leah, we all rolled our eyes too. It was an eye rolling moment for sure. lol

      • Brin says:

They showed the clip of her yodeling on “Access Hollywood Live” and as they showed it Billy Bush laughed because he was talking about A listers like Jennifer Anniston & Sandra Bullock there. He can’t stand LR.

      • Ming says:

Loved Leah’s facial expression after hearing leann ‘sing’.

    • Tracy says:

I just listened to LeAnn’s part and I think… I think one of her lines is something about “lights out”

      I don’t know… very hard to understand.

  21. lucy says:

    “Satan’s human form”? REALLY?

  22. TheRealMaya says:

Good bye and stay away from our screens forever Chelsea racist children attacking Handler.

As for these people being her friends – oh please all of them share the same agent the mafia Huvane. Chelsea is not real friends with these people is my guess – they are all ass kissing her to make sure she doesn’t attack them on her shows. Jennifer uses her as her mouthpiece against Angelina, Reese uses her to excuse her DUI arrest, Charlize to show that she has found an equal bitch in Hollywood, Gwen Stefani uses her because she likes attention and Sandra uses her to show the world that she is not the nice woman everything things she is. The rest of them are not even worth mentioning and are not A listers.

I will bet you the second karma hits Chelsea all of these so called friends will break their association with her with a doubt.

  23. lucy says:

I enjoyed Chelsea Lately. I’ll miss the comedians on her show and all the snarking on pop culture. CL was WAAAAAY better than all that a$$-kissing on that horrible E News show hosted by Guiliana Rancid and its ilk.

    • Kiddo says:

I didn’t watch her show for a long time, but as a personality, I like her better than Jimmy Kimmel.

    • CuriousCole says:

Thank you! I enjoyed Chelsea’s show for several years, but *after the big move she started phoning it in and I left. It’s great that she tells it like it is, half the comedians Chelsea introduced on her roundtable now have their own shows, and she owns her faults. I’ve never understood why most of CB think she’s horrible. If so many legitimately nice A-listers are real life friends (as has been documented by pap photos) with Chelsea, I think it’s time haters adjust their perspective and re-evaluate dubbing her “satan’s human form”.

I can’t stomach E News, it’s a joke, and one of the big reasons Chelsea left. She’s smart and sick of having to discuss the Kardashians every week – who here can’t relate to that?!

  24. Bea says:

I hope when Sandy and Charlize’s sons grow up and ask their mothers why they were friends with racist who frequently reduces a black man’s worth to the size of his penis, they have a good answer.

You know, along with why one married a Nazi and the other is dating a rage filled moron who taught his son that the n-word and homophobic slurs was appropriate to toss at photographers because he can.

  25. Bliss says:

    Good riddance witch !

  26. Bubulle says:

I’m surprised she has so many famous friends considering how crass she is.

  27. Stacey says:

Good riddance! I always thought she was kinda mean (could be the botox giving her b i t c h face tho)

  28. Kelly says:

I think she’s funny and seems nice. Where did all the hate come from?

    • No Chance says:

The uneducated narcissistic masses can’t discern or understand dry wit or satire, to the humorless, every spoken word is taken as “literal”.

Now, they rush to the dictionary to search, “literal”, “narccisstic”, “satire”, and “witticism”, however hopeless the endeavor.
      SMH

  29. Bridget says:

The devil, huh? I hope you guys realize that when you call Handler things like that, all you’re doing is playing into what she ultimately wants: controversy. An awful lot of her public persona is intentionally outrageous and intended to stir up a reaction. That’s her thing. Because either you find it funny or you hate it and make a stink about it in which case she gets to claim that you “just don’t get it” and she still wins because now she’s ‘edgy’. But if you just ignore her, she’s left with silence – no blog posts, no free advertising, nothing. Without the controversy all you’re left with is an unfunny lady who slept with her boss to get her job.

  30. BunnyBabe says:

I used to watch her show years ago and I am not easily offended plus I like raunchy or borderline inappropriate humor. But I randomly came across a new episode of her show on TV and honestly it seemed to me like she lost her sparkle. They were also doing look-backs to celebrate the show’s end and she just seems… different/in a fog. My gut reaction was it looks like she’s on Rx pills.

    • CuriousCole says:

Ditto, but in my opinion she stopped caring after renegotiating her contract i.e. securing more money, with no intention of re-upping, so she didn’t need to “sparkle”. It was disappointing, and not exactly professional, but it’s a solid bet she’ll continue writing, so we have that to look forward to.

  31. moot says:

I’m rather disappointed in Sandra Bullock for liking Chelsea Handler. I understand Sandy is thought of as a very warm and inclusive person, but this … Okay, perhaps that makes her über-generous in her attention to people. Knowing that she is voluntarily friends with Handler (I’ll give her Aniston), makes Sandra slightly less likeable to me than before.

Why can’t she be BFFs with Sarah Silverman, instead?

    • No Chance says:

Yes, why can’t everyone have the exact same taste as you?

Has this bothered you for a long time?

It’s a TV show, a false person, schtick, it’s ACTING.
      FOCLMAO

  32. Marlene says:

This friendship makes me side-eye Sandra Bullock.
