Brad Pitt’s ‘Fury’ wins the weekend box office with $23.5 million: did you see it?

wenn21841864

Here are some photos of Brad Pitt in London over the weekend. Fury closed out the BFI London Film Festival and I’m not really sure what’s going on with Brad’s clothes. That’s the worst tuxedo I’ve ever seen on him. And his photocall outfit – the plaid jacket, plaid shirt and 1970s striped tie… well, all of that is just BIZARRE. I have a theory that because Brad and Angelina are playing characters in the 1970s, that means Brad is still sort of stuck in his character’s ugly clothes. Still… Brad usually wears, like, Tom Ford perfection. He’s usually the best-dressed one while Angelina sacks her way through red carpets. Marriage has changed him!

I’ve been disappointed in the fact that Angelina has been nowhere during Brad’s Fury promotion. Even if she didn’t want to walk the carpet with him, why not a family photo-op with the kids in Malta? Brad’s “date” to the LFF premiere last night was a 91-year-old veteran named Peter Comfort. He looks like fun! As for the box office… Brad ruled the box office! Most people predicted that Fury would take home about $25 million and it ended up opening with $23.5 million. It was #1, finally knocking off Gone Girl. It’s a good month for R-rated dramas and the opening was particularly good for historical war films. Did you see it? I did not, but only because I just didn’t get around to it.

Meanwhile, Brad told Us Weekly that he enjoyed visiting Buckingham Palace to see his wife become an honorary Dame Commander. Brad said: “It was just a pleasure and certainly one for the books. [It was] a wonderful afternoon for our family, a great honor for Angie and something we won’t forget.” When asked if Angelina changed after becoming Dame Angie, Brad said: “Aaah, no. We have our own pecking order at home!”

Last thing – a UK paper claims that Brad owns a WWII-era Spitfire and he’s paid to have it completely restored. They also claim he’s flown it a few times. Eh.

I saw it. War movies aren’t really my thing but it was a well-done ensemble piece. Shia Leboeuf was quite muted, thanks to there being more memorable characters in the tank. Also saw St. Vincent – loved it.

    • NYC_girl says:

I saw St. Vincent too. I didn’t really like it; not in the mood for schmaltz right now. I also saw Birdman last Wednesday; interesting. The cast was really great and I liked Michael Keaton. Naomi Watts was in both!

    • phlyfiremama says:

Yes My Husband and I saw it. I had no expectations but I thought it was very realistic, gritty portrayal of how war actually is~not prettied up, glorified, or “churched up”. We both thought it was very good~

  2. David99 says:

No I did not and don’t plan on viewing.

  3. LadyMTL says:

I haven’t been to the movies since Guardians of the Galaxy. I don’t know what it is this year, but there’s very little out there that interests me. I’m just waiting for Interstellar and the next Hunger Games film, I guess.

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I haven’t been to the movies since that stupid Avatar movie came out (cartoon). Incidentally, my theater IS NOT playing the movie, which further solidifies my belief that they suck. They only play stupid romcoms (that stupid Nicholas Sparks movie is playing), franchise films, and kids movies—90% of their movie list.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Go through the list of fall films you wish to see, call the theater’s manager, and ask when they will be showing them. EXpress your dissertation if they won’t be showing, and follow up in writing.

    • lucy2 says:

Usually this time of year is really good for films, but there’s not a huge amount I’m eager to see either.
Definitely Interstellar (in IMAX), and my family is planning on going to Into the Woods around Christmas. And I’d like to see St. Vincent, but most likely will end up waiting for Netflix.

I saw the theatrical trailer for Fury before Gone Girl, and I didn’t find it very appealing, it was mostly just loud explosions. I’m not a big fan of war movies though anyway, but it’s had decent reviews so it will probably end up doing alright.

  4. lower-case deb says:

nice wedding ring, tho the detail made me think of a gold Dunkin Donut cruller (maybe it’s just my less-nourished state right now). anyway he’s not a hand model that’s for sure.

re his frumpy styling, i guess Angelina took Craig Ferguson’s advice to heart: dress your man dowdily to keep the competition away. next on his list would be… feed him until he can’t move?

    • Lilacflowers says:

Yes! The Dunkin Donuts french cruller. I want one now!

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Haha, here I was thinking that I hated the style of the wedding ring. I guess I’m more traditional at heart–I like the straight, simple bands. At least he doesn’t have diamonds in his–I have an uncle that has diamonds in his wedding band. And I’m not just talking like a few small diamonds–so that you barely notice, I’m talking like full out engagement ring type diamonds–but the diamonds are cut flat, and into the actual ring, so it doesn’t ‘stick out’ like an engagement ring diamond would.

And maybe Angelina dresses him–how hard is it to look good in a suit–and when he goes off on his own is when it spells disaster. Same thing with my dad. He dresses fairly nice, but my mom always ends up ‘fixing’ some sort of detail. I remember once he wanted to go to a work Christmas party in a jeans and tshirt–and my mom had put some slacks on, heels, a nice blouse, curled her hair, big hoop earrings, etc. She made him change into a pair of jeans, dress shoes, and a nice sweater–he ended up being the least dressed up person there. Imagine if he’d gone in his orig. outfit.

  5. Lee says:

He looks like retired porn performer from the ’70.

    • nora says:

      very funny!!!!!

    • lisa2 says:

I guess that is the go to comment.. because it is said too much and too often.

He is working on a movie set in the 70’s.

I like that he actually changes his look for films. Many actors don’t.

  6. PixieWitch says:

i saw it. very good. brad was pretty amazing in it.

  7. Jessica says:

Didn’t see Fury. The trailers didn’t really make it seem that exciting, so I skipped it. Maybe I’ll watch it when it comes out on Netflix or something.

  8. Rhiley says:

The plaid is not only dated but also kind of sad. He looks like an unemployed clown or some guy that just got out of rehab and is trying to get his life back on track. It makes no sense. But it is Brad Pitt so we know all is good in the hood.

    • Renee says:

      Rhiley…

…you win the internets today for this: “or some guy that just got out of rehab and is trying to get his life back on track”. lolz.

    • Esmom says:

Lol. I actually don’t mind the jacket, shirt and tie, they are kinda cute in a quirky way. But the overall vibe I’m getting with his hair and facial hair is veering disturbingly into Steve Buscemi territory. Also Benico Del Toro but that’s less frightening to me.

I didn’t see the movie, I’m still trying to carve out time for Gone Girl.

      • noway says:

Go see Gone Girl it was really good, but a bit long. Could have used a really good film editor, but still worth it. The trailer for Fury looked blah so I didn’t plan on seeing it, but maybe I might.

What is up with Brad’s attire lately, either he looks good or homeless and smelly. I know he is starring in some 70’s movie with him and Angelina, but that means he always has to look kind of skeezy.

    • Hiddlesgirl85 says:

@Rhiley: Yes, you win for today. That “rehab” comment had me in a minute-long giggle fit at my computer. It was also so descriptive and on point!

  9. Tapioca says:

$23.5M seems low for a mid-high budget movie opening, given the press attention. Maybe it’s a slow burner?

I refuse to watch anything with LaDouche in it any more – he’s my new Julia Roberts!

    • Monica says:

Actually most WW2 movies don’t do well at the box office. If you go on mojo the only other movies that opened higher are Pearl Harbor, Inglorius B, and Saving Private Ryan. That’s out of 60 or so movies that have been released. The budget was only $68mil so with Pitts international draw it will make more than enough money. The directors last movie grossed $10mil in total and his movie with Jake G did $13mil OW so he isn’t really a known name. The movie only had Brad selling it.

      • Ennie says:

…And I am guessing that Saving Private Ryan and Pearl Harbour had a huge budget… I wish well to this movie. It won’t open in many countries until next year…

      • Monica says:

@ennie wow just looked it up and you are right. Pearl Harbor cost $140 in 2001 which translates to about $200il now and Saving Private Ryan cost $70mil in 1998 which is prob about $120ish today. Both movies were released in the summer time too with Pearl Harbor being the Memorial Day weekend blockbuster. Fury’s budget is pretty modest when you put it in perspective plus it will make a good amount abroad.

      • noway says:

It’s not a bad first week number and about what was expected. The real test for movies now is the staying power after the first week. Fury got decent reviews and the audiences seem to have liked it, and as someone suggested this will be big internationally so they will make plenty of money off of it.

    • Lilacflowers says:

He’s actually rather muted, thank God, and probably has the fewest lines of any of the guys in the tank.

    • pwal says:

Not trying to change your mind, but LaBeouf wasn’t half bad. In fact, the whole cast was great, even Scott Eastwood. This movie was very frightening, given how exposed the soldiers were, despite being in a tank, and who they were fighting in certain instances.

I haven’t seen Saving Private Ryan, but I’ve seen other classic WWII movies, and it was interesting that there wasn’t any chest-beating about America, Mom and apple pie. It was about these men who had a purpose that they had to navigate towards incrementally.

      I’d see it again.

  10. jane16 says:

Haven’t seen it yet. Was it super gory?

    • PixieWitch says:

      yes.

    • Nicole says:

If you are light of heart, you probably should pass on the movie. It’s realistic in nature in regards to what war is like, when it comes to gore. I, personally, like WWII movies more along these lines. I hated Pearl Harbor because they put a stupid love triangle in the plot line.

  11. Andrea1 says:

    It was well done.
    A bitter sweet movie

  12. Maya says:

Very nice of Brad and the crew to appreciate the soldiers who fought for us.

I am difinitely seeing this movie when it comes out in UK on the 22nd October. It’s has been rave reviews and an a cinema score of A from the audience. There are also hundreds of tweets from people praising the movie and the acting especially Logan and Brad’s.

As for Brad’s clothing – he has always seemed like a person who never lets anyone dictate what he should and Shouldnt wear. He also always channels whatever character he is currently shooting for.

  13. Kim1 says:

LOL Angie has nothing to do with Brad dressing like that.He looked great days ago at DC premiere in Tom Ford.He is responsible for that plaid mess.
There are pics of Angie filming this weekend in Malta online.Brad left for a few days to promote Fury ,so she is filming the other actors
I think Fury will have legs because of word of mouth,it has A- Cinemascore, approx 80% RT,and Brad’s appeal abroad.
It performed better than Clooney’s Monument Men.The only war movies that did better are Private Ryan,Pearl Harbor and Inglorious Basterds

  14. BNA FAN says:

I have not seen Fury. I’m planning to see it this weekend. Getting a good closeup on anyone’s hands generally is not very attractive so I’ll give him a pass. I guess if all of us takes. Look on our hands right now, most of us would not be very happy, jmo. I noticed Brad loves the word, “my wife” he’s has used it quite frequently in his interviews. Btw, what’s going on over at JJ?

    • Ennie says:

It seems that someone posted a nasty comment pretending to be a moderator or something. Some people seemed to believe it until it was reported. I saw another comment with a special “MOD box” next to his name, and he clarified how the comment was fake and they deleted it and encouraged readers and poster to report any trollish activity.
It may have been a consequence of having to register to comment. I hope that diminishes the trolling at JJ. It was out of hand in many threads, not only the JPs, but of course it was very annoying, particularly some looooong repetitive troll posts are gone… for the moment.

      • Lady D says:

The falcor story posters on JJ were a nightmare, or a psychiatrist’s dream. I gave up on that site about 3 years ago, and it was still the same the last time I was there.

      • Lady D says:

If I can clarify here, I didn’t mean all JJ posters were nuts. There are just a few who have ruined the site with their 1/2 mile long posts.

      • Janet says:

It’s gotten worse since Jared switched his comment platform to Disqus and enabled pictures and videos.

  15. serena says:

Even in those ugly clothes (cuz they are) he looks amazing lately, doesn’t he?

  16. doofus says:

um, maybe he forgot his tux and that one’s a need-it-on-short-notice rental?…

    yeah, I got nothing.

  17. aang says:

No. Not a fan of war movies, Pitt or La however you spell it.

  18. Rachel says:

The movie was over acted and boring. After to film everyone looked bored.

    • BNA FAN says:

Most of the tweets from people who saw Fury gave it positive comments, especially Brad’s performance. The WW2 solder who saw the movie gave it a thumbs up, said it was realistic to what he went through.

    • Ennie says:

Some movies can be very good, and still are not funny or “exciting”. Some are serious movies, IDK about this one, I tend to avoid dramas lately, but Brad and Logan Lerman, oh, yes!

    • Nicole says:

I think people whom are bored with this movie probably didn’t get the nuances that this movie was giving. And not to sound mean, or rude, but I tend to notice the people whom didn’t like this movie, were either non-history buffs, or are incapable of detecting subtle aspects that make a movie like this great. It’s as if they need something bright and shiny in front of their faces to be content (i.e. sugar coated plot lines – Love story, etc…).

      • Jam says:

Do you mean nuances? I hope people don’t think the movie is a nuisance. Lol.

      • Nicole says:

Jam, yes I did. LOL! Auto-correct strikes again! Thanks for pointing that out, so I could correct it. HA!

      • norah says:

If u look up all reviews by and large pple have given positive reviews tbh I think that there will always be pple simply don’t like brad Pitt. So a movie with him in no matter what role will never appeal regardless of how good the movie actually was. If the ww2 pple have said that it was accurate and that all actors put in their max which they did sd all be commended.

  19. Dibba says:

    Nope

  20. The Original G says:

I’m not one for war movies, but the DH is a bit of of a history buff, so we went.

It’s different from the more sure footed depictions of war where everyone is clear that what they’re doing is right and the hero and his gleaming smile are victorious. (Spoiler alert.) It’s more about the toll that the gruelling battle takes on all the characters. How they’re dehumanized and damaged by what they’ve seen and what they’ve had to do. Brad is, I think, very good in this. Nuanced and subtle and you get glimpses of what he was like before he was ruined by a long war and his coming to terms with the fact they’re all going to die.

The film over-all has problems with it’s structure and story, but I’d say on balance, this is a good day for Brad Pitt.

    • lower-case deb says:

speaking of wars, my eldest is just beginning to go into WWI part of the history syllabus. this week the class learned about the death toll and they’re put into groups making an infographic on the “numbers”–casualty, mobilised troops, workers, equipments, etc. my kid’s study group worked on theirs in my living room yesterday. i’ve never seen a set of ashen faced kids so quiet in the house before.

“it’s like life don’t matter in there,” one of them said. like one fourth of a country’s population, dead. three in four deployed never made it back. one in three household lost one or more more family members. those are just cold numbers, but they are chilling numbers. the kids kept writing down numbers in the millions and listening to sound clips, they were so distressed it’s quite hard to see actually.

    • The Original G says:

Yes, I got a couple of things from this movie. One is how stoic that generation was about their trauma and their sacrifice. The other about how many soldiers in similar instance are being sent out or coming home from something comparable. Sobering.

  21. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

He needs to cut his nails. Yuck.

    • Kim1 says:

Maybe the nails are for the role in BTS.I hate the moustache but it’s for the role

    • tracking says:

He’s not exactly known for punctilious personal grooming habits.

      • lisa2 says:

People really need to let that go. Brad has worked with loads of people. On Red Carpets and none of those people have ever said anything about how this man smells. In fact they are always saying how wonderful he smells. He take a lot of selfies with fans. All these years and no story.

This is some narrative that people like to spread that is OBVIOUSLY not true.

      • maggie says:

So much war in the world, last thing I want to do is see a war movie!

    • Esmom says:

I noticed that immediately, too. One of my biggest pet peeves of male grooming. My sons will attest to how I nag them constantly to not let their nails grow too long. If either of theirs ever looked like Brad’s I would forcibly clip them!

    • Sal says:

Its just the downward angle of his hand. If he had his had up and straight, it would look like his nails were almost to the quick.

  22. hildy9 says:

We saw it- astounding…so much better than I expected. Brad picks decent films, but so much more than a “guys” movie. Great story and leaves you with a lot to think about… My boyfriend LOVED it and wants to go back again with his dad (who NEVER sees movies & brothers).. Bonus- Shane from Walking Dead was also in it and was EXCELLENT, the whole cast was.

  23. Sal says:

I love his wedding ring! My mother’s ring was in a similar style.

  24. Nicole says:

This is probably one of the better WWII movies I have seen in a long time. Outside of one particular scene at the end of the movie, I feel as if it was the most realistic one in its gritty-ness. Most movies like these, lack realism in my opinion. They romanticize war, trying to make it about some stupid love-story, or tone down the gore of war. War is not pretty, it’s not nice, it’s ugly, and this movie did just that. I didn’t think I would like it, but its up there with Band of Brothers for me. So if you like that sort of thing, this movie is definitely for you.

  25. yikes says:

Saw it- very, very good and refreshingly original for any type of film, especially a war film. None of the big shiny cliches & flags- it’s not about sides- just people in an awful situation trying very hard to do their job & being exposed to awfulness The gore is far less overall (and less gratuitous) than you see on an average TV crime show. As others have said, it will leave you asking questions and feeling FEELINGS. I was kind of worries that Shia would wreck it, but he was actually good and not distracting at all. Performances are all top notch and seeing those tanks is INCREDIBLE. Brad’s plaid- eh- I remember he wore an bunch of plaid for Ben Button press…some clashy stuff, too- he pleases himself and Angie has gone on record that she loves him in all states (when questioned about his hair/beard combos), so it’s all good. He wore another plaid jacket for a short BBC interview this weekend, which may be more “acceptable” to the fashion lovers:

  26. Eleonor says:

Did he steal Robert Redford vintage clothes ?

    • Somenestolemyname says:

He always remind me of Redford, in Redford’s Classic photos and films when he was younger.

  27. maddelina says:

    Herb Tarlek WKRP!

  28. Jessica says:

His wedding ring is gorgeous. I’m planning to see Fury this coming weekend. I was too busy this weekend.

  29. pwal says:

And on a thoroughly, completely thoroughly superficial note, for those who wondered/commented/derided Brad’s jawline last year, citing possible fillers, the answer is in this movie. Dude put on some weight and was pretty ripped, IMO, more beefy and definitely more attractive than his build in Troy.

I apologize for tiptoeing into the superficiality of Pitt’s filmography and the Fury’s cast wanting to pay tribute to WWII veterans, but I have to say that G.D… Pitt still got it.

  30. lisa2 says:

We went to see it on Sunday.

It was a great film. Brad was excellent; as were the entire cast. Shia did an outstanding job. Logan too.

Even if you don’t like war movies this is so much more. The relationship with the men is so raw. They all have a great connection that you can see.

Fury is worth the watch. Glad for Brad (as a fan)..and David Ayer.

  31. Somenestolemyname says:

Congrats to Brad on winning box office.
Can’t wait to see the film.

  32. Jam says:

Actually, its the Aniston fans on JJ that are the scary obsessed ones. They make JP fans look normal by comparison.

  33. Dany says:

I don´t like war movies much. Every few years i watch one on tv and it´s enough because this band of brother thing + war horror is always the same. Maybe i´ll watch this movie someday on TV when i´m in the right mood. I have a soft spot for Logan Lerman and even somehow Shia. The other guys and the story just don´t interest me. I haven´t seen a single Brad Pitt movie in theater and the last one on TV was Benjamin Button. I love Tilda Swinton and Cate Blanchett.
