Rita Ora calls a truce with Calvin Harris: ‘Right guy at the wrong time’

Rita Ora

Rita Ora covers the December issue of Cosmo. I think she’s promoting her role (as Christian Grey’s sister) in 50 Shades of Grey. Her upcoming album still doesn’t have a title or release date. She might not even have any songs after her epic bitchfight and shade-throwing match with ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris. Rita probably had to start from scratch, which sucks for her.

Cosmo released a few excerpts, and Calvin’s name came up. Rita handles the question well and sidesteps the cheating rumors. She says the breakup was all down to hectic schedules. That’s what they all say, right? Publicists like to say a breakup is “amicable,” and the alternative is that a couple was just too “busy” to make it work. If you say so, Rita:

On the Calvin breakup: “It was the right guy at the wrong time I was about to start a tour, and he was also all over the place. There’s only so much you can do when you don’t see each other. I really admire people who have long-distance relationships. It’s an incredible achievement. I couldn’t do it.”

On “Black Widow” as a “feminist anthem”: “As soon as I heard it, I was like, ‘This is the f—ing song.’ Katy Perry cowrote it — it felt nice to have all women involved.”

She’s sensual: “I’m very proud to say that I think about sex. It’s what everybody thinks about, whether they say it or not. For me, sex is a form of getting to know a person — feeling someone’s skin.”

On loving her body: “You have to come to terms with loving your body. Stand naked in front of the mirror and say, ‘I’m f—ing sexy.’ That’s where it starts.”

[From Cosmo]

Is “Black Widow” really a feminist anthem? That was Cosmo’s term as far as I know. Rita may feel the same way, but the lyrics are all about revenge after a breakup. Help me out here, people. It’s hard for me to accept that Katy Perry and feminism can fit in the same song, but I’m open to other interpretations. Not that anyone cares too much about the lyrics to “Black Widow.”

I’m including photos of Rita with her current man, rapper Ricky Hil (Tommy Hilfiger’s son), at LAX last week. I wonder how he’ll feel about hearing that Calvin Harris was the “right guy at the wrong time.

Is Rita Ora a thing? Cause she looks like a cheap Rihanna.

    • David99 says:

      LOL +1

    • shunty says:

      This cheap rihanna sings better

    • Anthea says:

haha, yeah, that’s sort of true in a way but as someone else already said – she sings better. I actually really like her voice.

      • Leah says:

She may sing better than Rihanna but she lacks Rihannas charisma and star quality. Rihanna also gets better songs. Ritas song material hasn’t been very good up till now. Also doesnt help that she seems to rub everyone the wrong way.

    • Charlie says:

I think she’s pretty big in the UK. She’s also quite popular in my country. And she’s a better singer than Rihanny, but then again, almost anyone is.

      • Leah says:

I live in the UK i wouldn’t say she is big, she’s had a couple of hits and is an ever present figure on the celeb scene and in tabloids. Very visible. But she isn’t a massive artist like Rihanna or Beyonce. Her ex Calvin is much bigger here.

  2. Nicola says:

She’s a man eater and I love that.

I know other women are calling her a wh*re, but those men wouldn’t be crying and b*tching so much afterwards if she was charging. I wonder if Calvin Harris is going to gain 70 lbs now too?

  3. khymera says:

Uuuh. Too early for this. She’s hoping and praying he lets her use the songs.

  4. QQ says:

Katy Perry Black Widow Feminist Song??!?? *Biggest “Baroo?” Face EVER*

She looks nice here …even her disaster of a Hair so Ima assume witchcraft wigs and Photoshop are at play here

    • Bridget says:

Has the author actually heard the song? Just because its a song by women doesn’t actually make it a feminist anthem.

  5. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

You mean…you mean….everybody thinks about sex? Really? Even women and men? Everybody? This is news people! Stop the presses, cause I didn’t know that anyone, ever, thought about sex. I thought it was just me.

  6. Anna says:

I think the only reason she said nice things about Calvin at this point is because she wants the songs she made with him.

    • QQ says:

THIS! She is smoothing stuff over for that track

      • Sarah says:

        Agree!!

It did not look like their relationship ended very amicably at all, so it seems the only reason she would say something nice about him is to get her album back on track!

  7. Shahrizai says:

I’m not sure I get what’s going on with Rita Ora or how she’s a thing. The only song I’ve ever heard of hers is Black Widow with Iggy, and I’m not that impressed. It’s the same sound for the radio. I am interested to see her act, oddly enough. Why is someone trying to make her happen?

  8. Hannah says:

Her new boyfriend is so gross. But I guess it doesn’t matter when he is the heir to the hillfigger fortune. Eyeroll.

  9. Sarah says:

This woman has willingly dated Rob Kardashian… I can’t think of anything about her except for this fact.

  10. KDOM says:

I might be in the minority here, but I think she has a really good voice. I heard her singing live on the radio and her voice sounded beautiful to me. I heard Charlie XCX a couple days ago on the same radio station and she sounded horrible. I think she can actually sing.

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I don’t think it’s her lack of talent that puts people off–it’s that every time she’s in the news, it’s for stuff like this…..I don’t think I’ve ever heard one of her songs, but I know that she ‘allegedly’ cheated on Rob Kardashian and Calvin Harris.

  11. OTHER RENEE says:

This woman rubs me the wrong way. Mediocre voice, cheap looking, screws for tracks and would be nowhere without bed hopping and cheating. I don’t get it As for the comparison to RiRi, yeah she’s overboard often, but she has true star wattage. Rita by comparison is a low wattage bulb.

  12. Bridget says:

This whole Calvin Harris debacle must have been quite the lesson for Rita Ora. She screwed up big by not nailing down the rights to those songs, and when things went bad she attempted to do some spin that just didn’t work. She sounds like she’s regrouped and come back with a better message.

  13. Dani says:

She plays Jamie Dornans sister? REALLY? Who was in charge of casting????

    • Tia says:

Since they were both adopted (the characters, I mean) if you are referring to the lack of resemblance, I d think it matters.

  14. Brasileira says:

Well…. she does need those songs back, doesn’t she? It wouldn’t surprise me if she tried to fall into his good graces again… at least until she had the album out.

  15. Mimz says:

    Goodness it’s so annoying.
Just because she’s not a US mega star doesn’t mean she’s not famous elsewhere. She’s quite big in UK from what I have heard and here in South Africa we know more songs by her besides Black Widow. People actually like her.
And she has way too many deals/sponsorships to be unimportant/irrelevant as some commenters seem to think. I mean her Adidas line is quite good.
Anyway, point is: Just because she’s not well known in America doesn’t mean she’s not good/she’s not famous/ she’s not successful.

About her quotes on sex – it’s cosmo, cosmo always has the stupidest, most redundant quotes on sex. That’s what they sell, over and over again.
And finally, her Calvin H quotes. She’s doing the PR game. What’s new?

ps. i might come off a bit rude today, I guess am having a bad day…

  16. KC says:

She looks like a mash-up of Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez. Is she talented at all? I don’t think I know/have heard any of her tunes (she sings right or is she an actress)? It has to be hard looking like some other famous person to make it as a (whatever her talent is) in your own right. Maybe it’s just bc I can’t look at her and see anything original and I don’t know what she’s famous for but I’d feel bad for her if she wasn’t casually cashing in while I struggle to pay my bills. Hmmm….which famous person do I look like?

    • Mimz says:

She’s a singer. And she does have a very good voice (much better than rihanna’s, just not as memorable/striking). And she has her own fame, just not so much in the US I suppose.
Yes I am struggling to pay my bills too, maybe I should look into that haha

  17. Jessica says:

“For me, sex is a form of getting to know a person — feeling someone’s skin.””
Um, maybe I’m in the minority here, but shouldn’t you know a person BEFORE you have sex with them?
