Anne Hathaway is trying to make her husband’s jewelry designs happen

wenn21864898

Last week, I covered these photos of Anne Hathaway at the LA premiere of Interstellar. I didn’t hate her Richard Nicholl gown, although it seemed sort of like one of those satin slipdresses that were so popular in the 1990s. In last week’s post, I also identified Annie’s jewelry as James Banks Designs. I even joked about how her husband, Skinny Jeans McGee, I mean Adam Shulman, is a self-proclaimed “jewelry designer.” But I just found out that Shulman IS James Banks Designs. You can see the (budget) website here. So, he designed Annie’s awkward “star” hand glove thing (plus the matching necklace). That’s why she was posing like the most awkward hand model in the world – she was trying to create some buzz for her husband. You too can own a $980 monocle designed by “Anne Hathaway’s husband.” So… what do you think of Adam’s gift for his lover? HA!

Speaking of love amongst the Hathahate, Annie has some thoughts about married life. She told The Daily Mirror that she wasn’t looking for anything serious after the mess with Raffaello Follieri. But then she met Adam:

“I got through my pain the way I always deal with unpleasant things and that’s to make a joke of it…. When we got married I thought it was a great party, but I honestly thought we were doing it more for tradition and I wasn’t prepared for the radical shift that my heart was going to have. Marriage isn’t for everyone but for me it has been the greatest spiritual journey I’ve been on. No matter what your dreams are, you’re always surprised by whatever life hands you. There’s a great quote that I love which says ‘Regardless of desire, life hands you who you are.’ I wish I knew who said that. It was a really cool person.”

[From The Daily Mirror]

If it’s really love, then good for them. I’m guessing that Shulman is a nice guy and he seems to adore her. But I sometimes get the feeling that Shulman is Cris Judd to Annie’s Jennifer Lopez: a starter/filler marriage until she gets to the next guy (Ben Affleck?!). Shulman is always going to be Mr. Anne Hathaway, no matter how many times she tries to make his jewelry line “happen”. And I sometimes wonder if Anne sometimes wishes she had more drama in her life. But hey, maybe she’ll get pregnant and this marriage will last longer than I expect.

Pretty sure you can buy the same jewelry on Etsy for $31.00.

    • InvaderTak says:

      Why 31$s? That’s random.

      • Kiddo says:

Probably because it is a good price point to move sales. Not cheap and not overly expensive. When people make choices about spending, a lot of times they believe the least expensive might be garbage or questionable and the highest is over-priced or a rip-off, so they pick the middle. Just like Goldilocks. There is psychology behind it and not to mention that there are significant items priced this way on Etsy.

    • Lis says:

There are slave bracelets on Etsy that are WAY nicer than this one.

  2. Kiddo says:

I didn’t notice before these close-up shots, but whatever that manicure is, it has the appearance of dirty nails, so ick.

    • als says:

Exactly. That mani is the worst.

    • Charlotte says:

Yep, that was my take away.

    • JudyK says:

It’s just a silver polish over the tip of the nail–I’m sure it looks better in person.

      • Kiddo says:

I don’t like it. It still comes across like she scratched off a lottery stub with her bare nails instead of a coin.

      • Candy Love says:

It’s a glitter silver nail Polish which give off that freshly scratched off lottery ticket look.

      • tealily says:

Haha. I was going to say that it made her nails look grimey, but “freshly scratched off lottery ticket look” is exactly it!

    • littlemissnaughty says:

I can’t stand these reverse French manicures but loads of women love them. They just seem to dated to me. As for the jewelry … no. Not for that price tag. Is he kidding with this??? Some of the pieces are pretty and I’d pay maybe $50 for them but that’s it. He makes diamonds look cheap for God’s sake!

  3. Trollontheloose says:

    The quote is from C.Haynes

  4. Mrs. Wellen Melon says:

The necklace is cute. The hand thing is to get us talking about the necklace.

    • Stef Leppard says:

The hand thing looks like a spiderweb and not in a good way. The necklace is cute, yeah.

      • Tifygodess24 says:

The hand bracelet thingy looks like it would turn her hand green , just looks cheap and very 90s.

      • Size Does Matter says:

It looks like the ring parts of the hand thing go right around her knuckles. How can she bend her fingers? How awkward.

    • Nikki L. says:

Sort of, but it looks like that middle star might be jabbing her in the neck.

  5. Indira says:

The stuff on the site looks like Silence of the Lambs memorabilia in jewelry form….

  6. Nikki says:

Her current face reminds me of Renee Zellweger’s old face – puffy with heavy eyelids.

  7. Observer says:

AnnE has really lovely warm brown eyes.

Welp, that was my something nice for the day.

  8. Birdix says:

I don’t really understand why he has to be as famous as she is to make the marriage work. That’s not true for male actors having equally famous wives, why would it be true for Anne?

  9. Sozual says:

It is nice to see couples support each other. I happened to see Zach Galifianakis’ episode with Brad Pitt on Between the Ferns. Galifianakis was taking so many jabs at Pitt and even calling him Mr. Jolie, practically. It was some hilarious stuff. Clooney with Amal and Pitt with Jolie, I am sure they have their insecurities, but it is interesting they married women more accomplished than them. Especially Clooney. Women have to work harder than men and sometimes the ladies surpass them. I think it is in most women’s best interest to be accomplished people for yourself and being accomplished can give you the means and time to find the right man.

  10. teatimeiscoming says:

that is a weird tangly mess.

  11. Dany says:

Judging by her face i think she really was sick when these photos were taken. Maybe the thing with her cold wasn´t a lie. Her eyes look puffy and tired. Her stylist tried to hide it with light make-up, powder and an eyeliner overdose. Horrible make-up

  12. Kliving says:

Love the look from the neck (including necklace) up. The dress, though a lovely color, is SO unflattering to her figure. The manicure is hideous and so is the jewelry on her hand. She is such a strikingly attractive woman, why does she continue to wear such horrible clothes?

  13. Renee says:

Good luck to him, I don’t think that his line is going to catch on – the jewelry is not that nice.

    • Eleonor says:

no it looks really cheap. I do not say it’s awful, but it looks like something you find in a mall.

      • Candy Love says:

I agree it looks like somthing you can get from Claire’s for $12.99

      • Renee says:

        Eleonor and Candy Love,

I think that you are both right but I have to say that I’ve seen stuff at the mall – you know, at those kiosks that are set up in the corridors because they can’t afford the rent of stores – that looks better than his stuff.

      • Candy Love says:

@ Renee your right I’ve definitely seen better looking Jewelry at the mall.

    • Belle Epoch says:

OMG visited his web site. There is hardly anything there and none of it is attractive. There are extremely talented jewelers out there and he is not one of them.

For $200 you can get this empty egg:

      http://jamesbanksdesign.com/butterfly-chrysalis.html

Yeah, yeah, chrysalis. Has he ever SEEN a chrysalis? How do you take an interesting concept like “chrysalis” and end up with an ugly egg?

  14. Rhiley says:

    Very Anthropologie.

  15. Toot says:

    I like the necklace.

  16. don't kill me i'm french says:

Nice necklace ,nice jewel for hand but you need long fingers and a nice manicure …what Anne hadn’t this day

  17. BengalCat2000 says:

That mess gives me Hot Topic bargain bin vibes.

  18. original kay says:

    dead hand.

    someone call Tyra, stat.

  19. Venuslotus says:

I really hate that dress she’s wearing, the older ladies in my family would call that a Nightie.

  20. Icarus says:

I’m worry, but I hate both the necklace and the weird hand slave bracelet. Looks like something I can pickup from Claire’s for maybe $10.

  21. Julie says:

She hasn’t always had such terrible style. I think it started when she began dating Adam. It’s been a few years of terrible dresses and hair and jewelry.

  22. SpookySpooks says:

Has anyone seen the Graham Norton episode with her? She was so lovely, but Matthew McCblabla is such a boring person.

    • Charlie says:

I’ve seen it. Anne and Lena were Anne and Lena ( mind you, I like Lena and I LOVE Anne), Mickey Flanagan was very funny but it did strike me just how boring Matthew McConaughey is. I guess I’ve never seen him in talk show before.

  23. Hissyfit says:

That bracelet / ring thing looks tacky as hell. I wouldn’t wear that thing even if it’s free.

  24. FingerBinger says:

I like the lightkeeper necklaces those are cool ,but not for $5000. You can make a lightbulb necklace for $5.

  25. santana says:

All I can see is a hairy arm that could put to shame my husband’s. EW.

    • Orly says:

What do you expect her to do about it though? Wax her arms the rest of her life? Wear a cloak to hide the shame of body hair? Sheesh.

  26. whatsmyname? says:

The jewlery is OK she is wearing the wrong dress for it, might look better with another outfit.

  27. tealily says:

On a positive note, I think her hair’s looking really cute these days. That’s a good length for her!

  28. Katenotkatie says:

I don’t want to hear about anyone’s spiritual-journey marriages. Pretty sure that means you’re experiencing the opposite.

  29. may23 says:

The jewelry is nice, good luck to him. Silver tips = dirty looking nails. No.

  30. Bread and Circuses says:

When I first saw that star bracelet/glove, I actually really liked it, and I still do, although I don’t like the stars up close. I’d prefer them made of a prettier material. The metals look a bit cheap.

  31. Whiskeyjack says:

I can pull something that looks just like that out of the bottom of my jewelry box.

  32. Jh says:

His website made me laugh out loud. Butterfly jewelry? Come on now. And that hand atrocity is simply embarrassing.

  33. Danielleisgodess says:

    Conspiracy!

I think she might already be knocked up judging by her face and that sack of a dress.

    That is all.

  34. Sparkly says:

I could almost like that hand thing, but the ring placement is just too weird. It makes her hands look so stubby.
