We haven’t had the photos of Michael Fassbender this week in Australia, which has depressed me to no end! Go here to see some of the pics. I linked to them earlier this week too. Fassy has been seen out and about with his costar Alicia Vikander several times. They went surfing with a larger group and then Michael and Alicia were spotted eating lunch together, just the two of them. And now E! News says they are actually dating!
Is Michael Fassbender off the market? The 37-year-old German-born Irish X-Men and Inglorious Basterds hottie has been seeing 26-year-old Swedish actress Alicia Vikander, his co-star and onscreen wife in the new movie The Light Between Oceans, E! News has learned. Reps for both stars had no immediate comment.
“Michael and Alicia are casually dating, spending a lot of time together,” a source told E! News.
On Sunday, the two were photographed together at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. He went surfing and was seen having a meal on the shore with Vikander. The two had filmed parts of The Light Between Oceans in the country.
The movie set for release in 2015 and is based on a 2013 psychological thriller novel by M. L. Stedman. Fassbender plays Tom Sherbourne, a lighthouse keeper who lives on an island in Australia with his wife Isabel, played by Vikander. The two, who have been trying to have a child for years, one day discover a boat that has washed up onshore. On board are a dead man and a living baby, who they raise as their own and name Lucy.
The movie was also filmed in nearby New Zealand. In October, Fassbender and other members of the cast and crew celebrated Vikander’s 26th birthday at a hotel in the Marlborough region, local outlet Stuff.co.nz reported. Also that month, the actor and actress were photographed together at a local spa and massage parlor, as seen on the shop’s Facebook page.
Alicia is a very pretty young woman and I could see why any dude would fall for her. I’m kind of hot for her just because of her amazing skin. Plus, we know the story of this film – Alicia and Fassy play husband and wife The Light Between Oceans. That was one of our CB Book Club selections and I hated the book with a fiery passion (Bedhead hated it too, but CB thought it was okay). I thought Rachel Weisz was playing the wife, but Rachel is playing the biological mother of the foundling baby. Just FYI. I could see how an on-set romance could build between Fassy and Alicia within the story. Most of their scenes are with each other, isolated on that friggin’ lighthouse.
So… Fassy’s got a girlfriend. For now. From what I know about his romantic life, he doesn’t do a lot of longterm relationships. Nicole Beharie lasted for about a year (they started dating when they were promoting Shame) and Zoe Kravitz lasted less than a year… although I think they’re still friends with benefits. Will Alicia last longer than a few months? Who knows.

I think it’s fair to say that Fassbender’s legs are not his best feature.
He was so gorgeous in that bar scene in Inglourious Basterds. Granted he was lit to perfection and drinking scotch, but between then and now he has seriously aged.

Alicia is SO pretty, but she has the face of a twelve year old to me–she’s so baby faced.
I know. I’m a little skeeved out by this, mainly because she looks so young. They look more like father and daughter than lovers. She’s gorgeous. He’s sexy, but a bit rough looking (easily looks 40s rather than 30s).
I often hear women complain about when a man dates baby-faced woman, even when said woman is a capable grown up — 26 is young, but not a kid. As someone who is baby-faced myself, but in my late 20’s, it is insulting. Are baby-faced women not suppose to date anyone and step aside so more “womanly” looking ladies get the dates and no one has to feel skeeved by it?
I think the issue is women are judged so harshly for their looks/age these days that some women feel threatened by baby faced women because they will by default be chosen over women who age poorly. I have a friend who is 50-60 lbs overweight and in her early 40’s and she complains no men look at her or offer to help her with anything anymore, she is viewed as a leper. Men in general look for youth and beauty in a partner (harsh observation but it is true). I am sad my friend never discloses her age due to these reasons (I don’t even know it). I proudly say I am 33, but I have noticed some people have started to say I am “old” now and I cannot say a 22 or 25 year old guy is cute now. I blame the society we live in and advertising over anything else!
@Andrea: I agree with the threatened thing. However we as women should be the first to stop judging other women for their looks – be it because they look younger or older. I’ve heard both so often and it’s not exactly helping.

She’s a wonderful actress. Though the leads were very good in Anna Karenina, I loved her parallel “alternate type of love story” with Domhnall Gleeson. They very moving, heartbreaking and never seemed affected or corny, which is difficult to do playing characters who are that earnest.
They really wasted her talents in The Fifth Estate (BC connection!). The character might as well have been called The Girl.

Let’s not pretend he’s mostly dating 18-21 year olds. Bradley Cooper, Leo Dicaprio, Joaquin Phoenix have all started dating women in that age range recently. James Franco tried to get with a 17 year old.
Most of Fassbender’s hookups have been in their mid-20s at least. Nicole Beharie, Louise Hazel, and Vikander were all about 26 when he started dating them. Yeah, they’re younger, but he’s not robbing any cradles. Those women know what they’re getting into. They shouldn’t be denied their own agency/choices.
I’m really getting tired of this younger women are not self-assured nonsense. I am 25, just finished my Ph.D. in Biostatistics (from an ivy league school). I also picked up a Masters in Biostat and a Masters in Statistics en route. So at 25, I have a Ph.D. and two masters in a STEM field. I work at a pharmaceutical and make a 6-figure salary. My boyfriend meanwhile is still in graduate school, trying to finish up his degree. He’s 32 by the way. So despite being younger, I am making 4 times as much as he is and am farther along in terms of my career. I think he finds me plenty “challenging”. I’ve met a lot of very impressive and self-assured older women. On the other hand, I’ve met a lot of very insecure older women. In the same vein, I’ve met several self-assured young women and some very insecure young women. Based on this comment, I am assuming you are “older”. I don’t think being condescending towards people for no other reason than their age is a sign of great wisdom.

I agree that everyone has his or her own pace. And it’s also not always either “self-assured and successful” or “insecure and a clueless child”. Some people are very successful at their jobs but highly insecure in relationships, some people have gone through a lot of personal stuff but still no clue about some areas of their life. We are all different and we are all “mature” in different fields and probably not so much in others.

Putting aside his (great) talent,what I like about Fassy is his relaxed attitude. He’s still living in his 2-room flat in Hackney,you can see him eating at the park barefoot,he doesn’t give a damn about what he wears,and above all is one of the most gracious actors with fans.

Fassy is also a more versatile actor – he’s able to be a believable leading man (that both men and women like, not so for Cucumber who it seems only a certain % of women like), also a character/indy film and ensemble actor. Cucumber is best suited to villain type parts.
I’m a Fassy fan and, weirdly, I don’t feel a great interest to read or comment on stories about what he’s up to anymore. This is the first one I’ve clicked into in a while and – to be honest – so what?
Well… good for him, isn’t it? I think Fassbender’s reputation as an outstanding actor is quite solid, while his private life seems to be not really gossip worthy these days. Isn’t it a perfect combination? Cumberbatch on the other hand has a fanbase that is VERY active on the internet and in social media and people know practically every minute where on the planet he is and with whom and somebody snaps a blurry picture which ends up on twitter. Ugh. But in the end, that’s most of his fanbase and I guess even he himself doesn’t know if he wants to court or avoid them, his PR has been a complete train wreck lately.
And in my eyes Cumberbatch still needs to proof his acting chops in a way, because he nearly always played a specific type of character and does that very well, but he’s been not very versatile and no leading man.

Totally agree, Anne. Most women in their 30s want to settle down and are thinking about starting a family. He might not be ready for that given that he’s been very busy working the last years and continues to do so. Nothing wrong with either concept but it might be easier for him to have casual relationships with girls in their 20s.
