Are Rihanna and Chris Brown planning a book and PR tour together?

Well Chris Brown’s plans to be a self-centered girlfriend-beating douche just got even bigger. I didn’t think he could possibly come up with a new way to offend absolutely everyone, but he sure managed to. Chris is going to write a book. About abuse. With Rihanna. All in an incredibly offensive (and some would say mentally abusive) attempt to salvage his career.

Chris Brown and Rihanna plan to co-author a book about abuse and go on a talk show tour in a desperate bid to salvage his career, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Saturday.

Quoting sources close to Brown’s legal team, the paper said the R&B singer charged with brutalizing Rihanna even has a name for his rehabilitation effort: “Project Mea Culpa.”

“The only way Chris can possibly reverse things is to come clean and help raise awareness about abusive relationships,” a source told the paper.

“Obviously this is a public relations campaign, but it only will work if there’s genuine healing, contrition and a path to preventing future problems,” the source said.

“It’s another example of trying to turn a bad situation into something good … where people can learn to change habits.”

[From the New York Daily News]

I find this offensive on so many levels. The biggest one that he’s clearly just doing this for himself; there is no contrition or repentance there. But involving Rihanna in this? It’s absolutely disgusting. While I’d love to think this is untrue, the Chicago Sun-Times is a very reputable source. And we’ve already learned that absolutely nothing is below Chris Brown.

He clearly wants to profit off this nonsense. I’m sure whoever came up with this ridiculous scheme (probably his PR firm) will also be smart enough to have him donate all the profits to a domestic violence charity. But since Chris is only doing this to save his career, he’s still hoping to profit off it. I cannot believe more people aren’t calling this guy out for what he is.

Let me guess… all proceeds to the Chris Brown Foundation, aka, his bank account.

She must be really lost to put up with this.

Can we just have this twit removed from the planet please?

Sigh…not that I believe everything I read, but so between that, the global meltdown, and the raging snowstorm outside my window, the apocolypse is here then. Great.

So… the transformation into OJ-lite is about 95% done then?

    SICK.

  8. FF says:

    W.T.F!

How come EVERYTHING is about salvaging his career? You left someone bleed, unconscious and humiliated. Admit it and apologise, dumbass. Doesn’t he get it?

How wrong is his head screwed on?

Is he in dept to some gansters or something because I don’t see why he’s so desperate to keep the money flowing to the point that he’s absolutely willing to alienate everyone.

The more I see his behaviour the more I see that his image is EVERYTHING to him. Screw everyone else, they’re only there as props to his image.

I wonder if the people around him can even tell him he’s doing nothing more than hurting himself. Either they’re a load of hangers-on who want the money too, or he’s NOT the guy you can speak to about anything. Or maybe both.

Mea culpa’s a ‘project’ now? He needs to GTFO.

I can only hope this is a load of bunk but I’m not holding my breath because it tallies up with everything else he’s done so far.

  9. BluePlanet says:

He clearly does not have the experience and wisdom to see that he has to own what he did, and that a publicity tour is not going to bring him closer to redemption. He is listening to his agents and PR team who want to keep making money off him, they seem to be convincing him this is the ‘right’ thing to do when all it is is the ‘profitable’ thing to do. The goal is to salvage profit, not self respect.

  10. geronimo says:

I know the word unbelievable is overused but it’s really appropriate here. If true, it’s an astonishing and disturbing misreading of public opinion on this and the PR company/Brown should be deeply ashamed of themselves.

  11. mommy says:

now wait a minute, when Jenny from the block was involved in that gang/not gang style related shooting in a night club, didn’t she stay with diddy/daddy until his trial was over?
    Same thing.
And…isn’t mr diddy/daddy involved in this as well?
    yeah, that’s what I thought.

  12. orion70 says:

I dunno Chris, how about, you know, going into deep hiding for some intense therapy and showing some humility. There’s a thought.

    douche indeed.

  16. Sarah says:

They must think very little of the fans and public if they think this will make it all just go away. The media isn’t going to just sweep it under the rug, that’s for sure.

I really, really hate this guy.

  17. Lina says:

Since there’s so much backlash against his music right now the only thing his P.R. people would think to do is put out an apology/awareness book to help revive his career.

And having him and Rihanna STILL be together doesn’t hurt either.

Much as I love to blame Sean Combs for all the ills in the world, that was a totally different situation.

In that case, JLo wasn’t the one being shot AT by Combs/his entourage. And it made sense for them to present a united front as she was also charged with possession of a firearm as well as Combs and i believe she had to stand on trial as well.

  19. mommy says:

Mairead…I didn’t know she was charged as well, I thought she was accessory or something. Just when I think I know it all…ha
Either way, Chris Brown is evil and must be stopped. (best line from Steel Magnolias)

  20. Enter Tained says:

I read this last night and I wasnt sure if it was true or not. Of course with the perfect tool that twitter is, I checked Rihanna’s page and she said

“I am not writing a book with Chris Brown, nor am i going on a book tour. This has not been brought to my knowledge! -RiRi”

Now if that particular comment happens to get deleted somewhere down the line, then we all know the truth. The sad part is that she doesn’t understand that her decisions effect a whole world of men, women and children that idolize her (for whatever reason).

Chris and his team are just assholes. Pure assholes! But its a PR’s job to try to make the best of any and EVERY situation so we cant fault them for trying, especially since its a recession. if they cant figure something out, his whole camp is out of a job. its up to the people to not let the bullshit from the assholes fool ’em

  21. Mairead says:

Enter Tained… hit the Print Screen button and save it!!! You’ll be doing a public service 😉

Hey mommy – sorry if I was coming off as critical. Although I could be wrong, but even as an accessory can’t you still be charged?) Now if he’d pistol-whipped or shot her with the gun, I would totally agree that it’s a similar situation.

I know, I’m just as disappointed that I can’t blame something else on Combs 😆

I wouldn’t go so far as calling him “evil” though – he’s got quite a bit to go to catch up with a latter-day Mugabe or Kim Jong Il.

  22. Jag says:

Unfortunately, people are still buying his album. Last I read, he was still moving 3k a week… disgusting.

She’ll write the book with him (if that’s true) and will do everything he says, until she’s either dead or wakes up from the nightmare and runs. It’s so sad – and frustrating – to know that she has the means to get away from him, but won’t.

Had I been able to afford bodyguards when my ex turned from emotionally abusive to physically, I would’ve done it in a heartbeat. Instead, I tried to wait him out… but he didn’t leave for another 2+ years. It was torture.

At least now I know what I’m worth, and it’ll never happen again. I pray that Rihanna lives long enough to have the same epiphany.

  23. Terrian says:

Is anyone even going to give Chris a chance at trying to make himself better? Isn’t he only 19? He has so much more life to live… Even thought what he allegedly did is bad, he still deserves a fair chance at becoming a better person.

Does everyone just expect to keep doing bad things?

I hate society and how everyone labels people.

  24. jay_center says:

If Chris Brown has a 9 inch cock, I would not mind sticking to him even though he beats me up! Relationships are complex, I was addicted to my previous boyfriend, suffered from his abuse, but never had the same pleasure from anyone else in my life, so I stayed with him until enough was enough… So I can understand Rihanna, there must be something that makes her addictive to that man

  25. fortuneteller says:

Come one people….give Chris Brown a break. I dont like what he did to Rihanna, that disgusting to say the least..but lemme tell you, and you’ll will know that in due time….Chris DID NOT BEAT her to that extend…infact that is why he is so calm and collective. And RIRI will not get off the hook, she will NEVER leave him, infact it will be the other way around……for the same reasons he left her weeks b4 the awfull accident/incident. I know what Im talking about, and quote me “I KNOW WHAT I KNOW”. So just hold your horses, one of the damn days youll hear the terrible nasty stories of RIRI blaming her family and friends for making money outta her (by selling stories), for being sorry and not telling all and the worst will be ‘the case is dropped, cause the victim is no more the victim” —–

  26. for_realz says:

    @ jay_center

Just when I think there could be no comments as idiotic as those that have been posted about this situation before, YOU have just taken the cake.

    This is NOT a compliment.

  27. FF says:

Uhm, no one’s stopping him from becoming a better person, there are just consequences to his actions, i.e. people are disgusted and saying so, and there may be judicial price to pay also.

So he’s free to be a better person, he just has to realise you can’t take back hitting someone in the face, and sometimes people don’t forget or forgive.

If that makes other young people think twice about the repurcussions of their actions in this kind of situation then I don’t have a problem with it. He knew from his upbringing the devastation that intimate abuse brings. What more can be said.

He can get better and be better – if he wants to. And the first step is taking responsibility for his actions and accepting – for yourself – that he did something very wrong. Another reason people aren’t feeling very lenient is because that’s yet to happen. His response to the entire uproar has been pretty wack, actually.

Also, it doesn’t matter if Rihanna turns out to be the wicked witch of the west – smashing her head into a car window isn’t a fait accompli. Walking away would be the adult thing to do. And if you really must play it that way he’s a victim of his OWN damned fool behaviour. No matter what Rihanna doesn’t have the power make him assault her. That’s all on him. He should ALWAYS have known and done better, particularly given his history. The end.

  28. FF says:

Honey, please go get yourself some professional help. Your marbles aren’t all rolling in the same direction. Co-addictions are a very serious psycho-emotional illness that could leave you dead one day.

  30. Mairead says:

    Jay-center – it’s one thing having a 9-incher, it’s another thing BEING a 9-incher 😉

Fortune-teller – you’re not same one who came on the other day to say that it was someone else who beat Rihanna? No-one doubts that “you know what you know”, but I daresay you know any more than the rest of us.

If Chris Brown was really undergoing a process of mea culpa there wouldn’t be any of this “spin” about writing books on learning from his experience. Both he and Rihanna would be still undergoing the process of healing. He, to break the cycle of his own abuse so that he can move forward from the demons of his past. And Rhianna from this relationship and whatever is causing her to believe that this is “love’.

I’ll support any real effort on their part to truely learn from this terrible experience – but this just reeks of an arse-covering exercise.

  31. DD says:

Terrian, jay_center, fortuneteller… all posted the same r*tarded comments one after the other. Me thinks its the same person.

  32. Viper says:

Oh for the love of God. Has she gone mad???

  33. eva says:

enough from him. he’s done enough.

  34. Jag says:

    @ queenie

I’m stealing this… “Your marbles aren’t all rolling in the same direction.” lol

  35. tigerlille says:

The New York Daily News is quoting the Chicago Sun Times as DISCOUNTING the rumor that Chris Brown and Rihanna are planning on writing a book about abuse and hitting the talk shows to promote it. So save us your phony outrage and grandstanding, Jay Bird, this is just another example of you deliberately distorting information to write another one of your pathetic pieces.

Congratulations, you got 33 + comments with your bullshit.

And if anyone reading this doesn’t believe me, just click on the yellow highlighted New York Daily News link to read it for yourself.

Chris Brown is despicable, and so is lying.

  36. IvyMades says:

Chris Brown’s cavalier non-apology, his flexing on a jet ski, and Rihanna’s family not be able to commmunicate all show he’s not sorry about a damn thing! In fact, they show classic abuser traits on display.

He’s pissed that his career is in trouble and is all about repairing his image. He’s using Rihanna and I feel sorry for the girl. She’s obviously not well, and at this point deserves a Britney style intervention where her parent is declared her guardian DESPITE being legally of age.

  37. The Old KC says:

Well, the New York Daily News link does say the story was updated late Saturday – I’m going to give Jaybird the benefit of the doubt and assume it was updated after Jaybird blogged this.

  38. The Old KC says:

Never mind – I need another Monday morning cup of coffee. Yesterday was the 8th. The NYDN story was updated on the 7th. My bad.
