Princess Charlene debuts bangs, twin babies on the palace balcony in Monaco

Princess Charlene and Prince Albert did the “official” presentation of their babies today in Monaco. I guess this is a thing in Monaco? When the newest heir is born, the parents take the baby (or in this case, the babies) onto the balcony to present the baby to the people of Monaco. We actually got our first glimpse at the babies just before Christmas, when Albert and Charlene released the first baby photos to Paris Match and other publications. Prince Jacques looked a bit grumpy, remember?

Anyway, the babies came out. It looked cold and I hope little Jacques and Gabriella weren’t out on the balcony for long. Charlene and Albert looked happy enough. I think the look on Charlene’s face is probably closer to “relief” rather than happiness. She married him. She gave him a male heir (even though Gabriella was technically born first). Now maybe Charlene will get her passport back. Also: Charlene debuted some new bangs. She didn’t have those before. They’re pretty bad, right? Why do so many new moms try out bangs right after giving birth? Is it in the manual?

Jacques and Gabriella are four weeks old now. They will spend the rest of their lives on that balcony, waving to people. Crazy, right?

I think bangs look good on her.

  2. mimif says:

Holy sh-t balls, do I see a semblance of a smile, and perhaps a twinkle of happiness there?

    • GreenBunny says:

I was going to say, I think she actually looks genuinely happy.

    • Thinker says:

He has his baby, and she has hers.

But she does look proud and happy, so congrats to them.

    • Audrey says:

She does look happy to be a mom! Maybe happy about being able to live a separate life from her husband too lol.

Their daughter looks EXACTLY like her dad 🙁

  3. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Is her hair pulled back or cut shorter? She looks pretty, I think. They just have zero chemistry, she said, feeling for some reason that urge we all have to state the obvious.

    • mimif says:

They have like negative zero chemistry. Please tell me she opted for the turkey baster method, because can you imagine….*shudders*.
Also, she looks like a young Kim Cattrall here.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Hey, she does! Even Samantha would use a turkey baster here. Ugh.

      • Nikki says:

I thought “Samantha!” As soon as I saw her. She even has a tad of Samantha’s joie de vivre; FIRST time I’ve ever thought she looked happy! Yay and congrats to her!

  4. Abbott says:

I don’t think the bangs are Dakota Johnston-as-Ana-Steele-bad, but they sure aren’t Beyonce’s baby bangs.

  5. Delta Juliet says:

    1. The babies are so tiny!!!! Adorable. Although I wish they had hats on their little heads.

    2. I love the way one of them is waving to the crown 🙂

    • GingerCrunch says:

Right? I’m sure he’s holding the boy and since he’s the heir he’s waving like a little champ! Too funny.

    • Ag says:

that was my thought – yikes, put some hats on them! haha

    • Stef Leppard says:

Oh my god thank you!!! All I could think was, if you’re wearing a wool coat and gloves, why are your babies not wearing hats?!

    • MinnFinn says:

The little arm in the air is perfect. IDK about the need for hats though. Temp was 52° around 12pm there today. Plus the babies were likely wearing warm onesies under their blankets. Add to that the body heat from being enveloped by much bigger, warmer bodies of their parents and I think they were at no risk of getting chilled.

  6. kri says:

I wish someone would put Prince Albert in a can. I find him unbearble. Nice to see her smiling for real, though.

  7. Kate says:

Charlene looks wonderful. I’m sure she’s relieved.

  8. Freebunny says:

First time I see her smile, happy for her.

  9. aims says:

She looks happy, but dear Lord she is botoxed to the hilt.

  10. BW says:

“Why do so many new moms try out bangs right after giving birth?”

Because shortly after giving birth, your hair falls out. My mom lost an inch of her hairline after she had me. Bangs allow you to cover up the bald spot.

    • Delta Juliet says:

True. I’ve pretty much had bangs most of my life but after I had each of my boys I lost A TON of hair. It was so depressing.

    • tealily says:

Plus, after your hormones go kablooy and your hair falls out, it starts to grow back in all at once and you get a ton of new growth. Bangs are the least awkward way to deal with that.

  11. minx says:

I usually don’t like bangs but they look pretty on her, maybe because she’s blonde and they have a little separation here and there. She looks happy.

  12. j.eyre says:

I feel bad about this but the only thing I can focus on in those photos are her gloves. I am sure everything else in the shot is very lovely and perfect but those gloves, I cannot see past them.

Okay, I don’t really feel bad about that.

  13. Racer says:

Tiny babies! She looks good and Albert looks happy. It will be good for him to have children he can raise in his domain and publicly. I genuinely wish them the best.

  14. Darlene says:

My hairdresser told me that so many new moms get haircuts/bangs because “nothing is in their control” and at least they can “control their hair.” Makes sense! I got a cut when I was pregnant, probably for that very reason!

    • Thinker says:

Also because new moms are tired as all heck and when you lose those magic glowing pregnancy hormones, your face starts to look different than you remembered it… Quite suddenly, new wrinkles appear on the forehead, around the brows and eyes, and you look old and sallow and tired all the time. Bangs are girly, they harken back to youth, and bangs have that advantageous trait of providing inexpensive coverage of those pesky new forehead wrinkles.

  15. OTHER RENEE says:

DM has a wonderful photo of them looking at each other smiling. It’s really lovely. They’re adorable babies and I hope they lead happy lives. And not become spoiled unhappy people like their aunts.

  16. FingerBinger says:

I love her coat and she doesn’t look miserable.

  17. RobN says:

Was a weight ever given for the babies? They still seem so tiny.

  18. scout says:

She is in love with her babies, of course she looks happy. Now her hubby is tolerable too, to her I mean. One baby is already learning to wave! 😀

  19. The Original Mia says:

They are so tiny. Look at that little hand waving. Happy for them.

  20. GiGi says:

Cold enough for coats & gloves but NO HATS ON THE BABIES!?!?! This kind of thing kills me!

Also – I like the bangs, and that’s saying a lot, as I generally think they’re terrible. They suit her face.

    • Malificent says:

I’m ordinarily fanatical about hats on babies too (my kid leaves the house looking like Ralphie’s little brother in A Christmas Story). But I’m guessing that people want to see there little faces. I’m sure they were only out on the balcony for a few minutes and then they were bundled back inside.

  21. enike says:

They look happy and the twins are adorable

I like Charlene´s hair! (she looks like Samantha from the sex and the city:) )

  22. AuroraO says:

Kaiser, are there any bangs you DO like?

  23. PHD gossip says:

Her hair looks different because the back of her hair is a wiglet. The bangs are hers, though.
Check the photos carefully, you will see what i am talking about.

  24. bored_01 says:

Moms try out bangs aftr giving birth because, for many, their hair breaks off and falls out after the hormone crash of birth. Bangs can help cover up some of the trauma around the temples. Mine was horrific.

  25. Green Is Good says:

    Bangs TRAUMA.

  26. wow says:

My goodness, she looks old. She’s only been married for what…5…years? It’s drained all of her looks. Or maybe longer hair suits her better.

    • candice says:

Was just about to post the same thing! Can’t believe she’s only in her 30’s. Becoming royal seems to have an adverse ageing effect on women – look at Kate.

  27. krtmom says:

Awww, daddy’s first legitimate children! How sweet!!!

  28. Nicole S says:

I have an answer to that question! New moms do bangs because all the thick, luxurious hair they grew while pregnant starts to fall out. My friend had baby hairs sticking up all over her head and opted to cut some bangs to hide the worst of it.
