Kristen Stewart: ‘No one gives more of a f–k than me. It’s just ironic to me’

Kristen Stewart has a lengthy interview with Salon this week to support Still Alice. You can read the full piece here. To her credit, she spends much of the interview praising costar (and presumptive Best Actress Oscar winner!) Julianne Moore. She also talks about the technical aspects of making the film and how she signed on and all of that, none of which is very interesting. But she also talks about her career, how she’s a “lucky bastard” (seriously) and how no one in the world gives as many f—ks as our beloved K-Stew. Some highlights:

How she felt watching Still Alice: “I’ve seen it twice now. The first time I saw it I was so blown away. I was present for a lot of what she [Julianne Moore] did that was impressive in the movie, but for the things that I was not there for she so destroyed me. I thought nobody else in the movie existed. I’m super technical, I will sit and watch one of my films with a little list of checks and balances and this finally took that away. Usually the first time is never a proper experience, it’s always getting over hangups and weird memories, and this time it was just absolutely undeniable. What she does needed to be done. It’s so important.

After Twilight, getting the indie career she always wanted: “I’ve never tactfully maneuvered through anything I felt passionately about— my job being really, really high on that list. I haven’t planned, I haven’t thought about my trajectory or how to design my career in a way that I can get what I want. Luckily I’ve gotten what I wanted naturally — I’m such a lucky bastard— but I had no idea “Twilight” was going to be a big deal, it blew up. It’s always hard to compare projects and I think each moment we live obviously makes us the person we are right now, so each project has a bit of a through-line because it is me at different stages of my life but they don’t have anything to do with one another in terms of design.

Using the film to educated about Alzheimer’s: “You can f–k around on a movie set, do this and that, make fun of things. It’s like, this isn’t real, we’re not curing cancer. In this case, actually, we’re taking one massive step towards helping people overcome something that’s denied. Lisa Genova’s constantly talking about how we need to rip Alzheimer’s out of the closet and show that this is not an old-timer’s disease. It’s a very real thing and there’s a lot of shame in it. There’s so much isolation, so much loneliness, so much denial, and so much shame, and it shouldn’t be that way. We’re running marathons for cancer— why aren’t we doing that for Alzheimer’s?

Being told that people admire her ‘no f—ks given’ attitude: “I’m like, actually, no one gives a f–k like me. No one gives more of a f–k than me. It’s just ironic to me. I’m always like, really?

Supporting a project she loves: “Yes. I find myself saying things that I hear other people say where I’m like, ok, you’re lying. But I say the same thing, and I wonder if people think I’m lying when I say, oh, we were just a big family on set! I hate that stuff. People always ask if I chose the projects I’ve chosen because I’m trying to redefine myself or people’s perception of me. Uh, no. In a word, nah.

Is there no one else in the world who gives as many f—ks as Kristen Stewart? Debatable. I have to say… I’m sort of surprised that she would take that position. Even I think that she’s more of “I don’t care what you say about me or my films, whatever” kind of person and that’s one of the qualities I’ve always liked with Kristen. If she’s not really that girl, then who is she? Does she actually care about people calling her a trampire? Does she really care that people think she’s a bad actress with one trick (lip-biting) up her sleeve? SO many questions.

Her face in the top pic looks so different from how she normally looks. I know it’s just a bad picture, but it’s funny.

  2. Gracie says:

Okay, I don’t normally comment on KS threads. But why do all her title quotes sound so… rudely narcissistic… or narcissistically rude?

  3. PunkyMomma says:

I’m surprised Kris hasn’t used her well-worn thesaurus and found some polysyllabic synonyms for “f*ck”.

  4. Josephine says:

I truly wish she would never give an interview. I haven’t seen her recent films so I can’t judge her recent acting, but she sounds so incredibly immature every time she opens her mouth. I think she has no self-awareness at all. I also think so many people who have acted since a young age get stuck in their emotional development.

    • Diana B says:

She is still as wooden as she’s ever been.

    • Kosmos says:

Agreed. I’ve always found her seeming rebellion to be boring and self-centered–trying to look cool and indifferent while madly pursuing an acting career. I’m glad she and Rob are dunzo because I did like him. She might still appear in films, but I’m never going to be a fan.

  5. Kitten says:

Man…actors are so egotistical. It’s not enough for them to just take their ridiculous paycheck for playing pretend, on top of that they have to perpetuate this idea that what they’re doing is SO MEANINGFUL. Also, if she would just step outside of her Hollywood bubble then she’d know that there are races to benefit Alzheimer’s research going on all the time, maybe not as widespread as races to benefit Cancer, but they’re out there.

I mean, it’s nice that you’re making a movie about a disease that’s definitely not talked about enough but you’re not doing charity here, you’re really not helping as much as your inflated ego wants to believe. Helping is what my friend does working for http://www.alz.org/manh/.

Eh, maybe I’m taking this too personally because I saw my grandma rot away from Alzheimer’s in front of my eyes. Maybe I’m being a bitch. This interview just rubbed me the wrong way.

    • PunkyMomma says:

I’m losing my Aunt to this horrific disease. Stewart has absolutely infuriated me with her ignorant psuedo “you should be aware, people” comments. She’s promoting her role. We have Alzheimer’s races and fundraising events all year long. (Sorry, this is hitting close to home for me, too.)

      • Tig says:

That statement struck me as odd too- there are fundraisers and walks nationwide-why act like they don’t exist?

      • Kitten says:

I am so sorry, Punky. It’s horrific to watch a loved one disintegrate from this disease. I still have nightmares about what happened to my grandma, whom I watched transform from the kindest, most loving person with a wicked sense of humor to a shell of a human who could do nothing except for rock back and forth, screaming gibberish.

I wish I could say it gets easier but it’s a degenerative disease….

Sending internet hugs and positive vibes to give you strength to get through it ♥

      • PunkyMomma says:

Thank you. Sadly, my Aunt is in the final stages. Its heartbreaking to us all.

    • whoisme says:

This post speaks the truth. You’re not being a bitch at all.

    • Maria says:

no you are right. its obviously more meaningful than doing Twillight but even Transformers was deeper than that.

i think its bugging more and more people that celebs really think they are doing something, its nice when they shine some light on certain topics but they get so much praise for doing extremely simple stuff while others are doing the grunt work and may be even risking their lives.

    • Dani2 says:

@TOK @Punky So sorry to hear about your relatives affected by Alzheimers, hugs to you both 🙁 I think the problem here is that Kristen has not made an attempt to educate herself on the sorts of things people are doing to support those affected by Alzheimers. When I’ve watched Julianne talking about this movie and the disease, there’s a real sense that she’s done research and that she’s spent time with people affected by/involved with this disease, with Kristen, there’s a lot of goodwill, just too little knowledge. My friends and I are doing the cambridge half marathon for Alzheimer’s Research UK in March. There are a lot of people worldwide trying to support those affected by the disease and her interview makes it sound like that’s not the case.

      • Kitten says:

I just feel like she should use her platform to plug the organizations that do REAL work, instead of acting like a movie that is ultimately for commercial and entertainment purposes is what’s suddenly shining a light on this disease.

But yeah, I guess it’s nice that she’s talking about Alzheimer’s…I just wish she could do it a bit more “tactically” 😉

    • Azurea says:

I lost my mum to Alzheimer’s. She lived to 89, but the last 10 yrs of her life it was a slow decline, & it was so painful. It’s difficult to remember what she was like before it happened,
because of the slow decline. Sure, I can conjure up memories, but they almost don’t seem real, now.

And Kristin Stewart really needs some remedial English, unless she’s misquoted a lot. “Tactfully” instead of “tactically”? Most of what she says is such drivel, it’s unbearable.
      😬

      • PunkyMomma says:

Oh so sorry for your loss. It’s such a nightmare of a disease.

      • Azurea says:

Thanks, Punky Momma. I’m so sorry your aunt & family are dealing with this, too. It’s so heart-rending. My best friend’s dad is quickly declining, now. It’s an absolute scourge.

    • mädchen says:

Her fans donated over 24000 dollars to ALZ research AS birthday present for her. Her name brings big attention to this illnes, not just in the US but all over the world. She is proud to be a part oft something meaningful and wants to help. Lisa Genova said the same things about awareness. I think it is amazing. I learned a lot about ALZ just by reading about this movie, because KS is in it. Maybe you just don’t see it because its personal for you or you just don’ t like her. Both is OK. Just wanted to offer another point of view in case anyone was interested.

  6. Dani2 says:

I was going to just say that I’m pretty sure she’s made this exact same statement before (?), but these pictures of her laughing look so…derpy. They made me lol just a little.

  7. Wren33 says:

Makes sense to me. Clearly she has some sort of anxiety issues and is not comfortable on the red carpet and in interviews. Probably having a script to read from is freeing and she can be comfortable in front of the cameras in that way.

    • Maria says:

that plus she was a child actor, she grew up like that and it certainly is something familiar which gives your security.

  8. wolfpup says:

I’m behind in any real knowledge of Kristin (except the naked pic’s), but I thought her comments were quite thoughtful. No one person is ever completely correct, but that she cares enough to actually think about her feelings and ideas, put her far ahead of many celeb’s who say stupid, silly comments like who cleans themselves best.

  9. scout says:

Me, Me, Me, Me…….on and on and on. It’s so uncomfortable to watch her being uncomfortable, even when she is “acting”!

  10. Allison says:

My takeaway is that she probably gets frustrated with people saying she doesn’t give a f**k about her work — some people call her lazy or say she doesn’t put any effort in. That’s probably what upsets her, because I actually think she is very passionate about her work and her roles. What I genuinely don’t think she gives a f**k about is what people say about her in general.

  11. tealily says:

“You can f–k around on a movie set.” Oh, Kristen, we already know where you stand on that one! *cough*–minicooper–*cough*

  12. mädchen says:

She cares about her work, doesn’t care what others think about it. AS she should! Tastes are different. Acting isn’t math or physics. Online anonymity turns many people into a..holes. No one needs to care about it.
