Kendall Jenner wrote for the Wall Street Journal: ‘I feel like I grew up too fast’

Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner gets laughed at a lot for saying her family name didn’t start her career, but I still root for her a little bit. She’s entitled and has no idea what it’s like to not be famous, but that’s not her fault. If any of the Kardashian-Jenner klan can break free from the reality show business and still make money, it’s Kendall. She’s a decent model and worth a lot of money for brands. Does she have lasting power? Only time will tell.

Kendall was chosen by the Wall Street Journal as one of several “luminaries” to discuss youth and aging. I’m side-eying WSJ for letting Kendall write for their February issue, but she reflects the younger demographic. Other contributors included Tim Howard and Goldie Hawn. Here’s Kendall’s part:

“I feel like I grew up too fast a long time ago. Having older siblings, you grow up around adults, so you mature more quickly. I saw my sisters and parents working every day, so I was pretty much brought up to be a workaholic. But I just turned 19 a couple weeks ago, and I’m scared to be 20 — it’s the first step out of being a teenager. My sister Khloe always says to me and my younger sister, Kylie: You have your whole life to be an adult but only so long to be a kid. And we get it. In the right situations, I try to be as immature as I can sometimes — react to things as if I were 12. You can’t take things too seriously. I just laugh thinking about my dad being a teenager, partying. It’s the funniest thing. And it makes me think — what am I going to be like when I’m 65?”

[From Wall Street Journal]

Well … I am pretty sure Kendall didn’t actually write this paragraph. The publication probably interviewed her, and someone translated the text into a readable format. I’m not saying Kendall is dumb, but she isn’t a writer. She and Kylie used a ghostwriter to write their YA novel, Rebels: City of Indra. No shade there either. Most celebs use ghostwriters, which is paid work for writers, so it’s all good. This Wall Street Journal gig is more of the same, but Kendall’s getting credited as a budding journalist.

Her and Kylie both have grown up too fast. With a mom like Kris Jenner, it couldn’t have been prevented.

    • Snazzy says:

Yes, while I find that whole family ridiculous, I do feel for her on that point. Let’s see what comes of it

  2. Dońt kill me i'm french says:

She barely knows to read so I guess she barely knows to write

    • neelyo says:

      This.

And the Wall Street Journal featured Suzanne Somers as a health expert and then had to issue a correction longer than her original article, so there you go.

  3. Lucy2 says:

Budding journalist? Not so much. Ask her about anything besides her family or the party scene and she won’t have a clue.
I shudder to think of their lack of education- especially considering how many girls her age around the world would kill for the opportunities she could have had.

    • danielle says:

She comes from a wealthy family, but I don’t think she did have the opportunity for an education. I believe their mother pulled the youngest 2 out of school against their wishes to work.

      • perplexed says:

Wasn’t there an episode of the show where one of the younger ones wanted to do her homework, but she couldn’t get it done because her mom wanted her …uh…not to do her homework? It seems like all of them could have gone in a different direction with a different mother.

      • Anon33 says:

Embarrassed that I know this but it was actually the opposite. The presented it as the girls whining and crying about not wanting to go to school anymore-because they were “so busy” with “work”-and Kris finally giving in and letting them. I’m sure she was in favor of it the whole time though.

      • perplexed says:

Oh, sorry, my bad. I think my brain cells shut off when I watch the show.

    • BengalCat2000 says:

I read the headline as, “Like, I feel so old, you know”. I don’t understand the lack of desire for an education from these people!

  4. Josephine says:

I don’t understand what she thinks her sisters do for “work.”

But more importantly, I don’t really see the point of her little blurb at all. Many kids grow up too fast, but not because of a spoiled, pampered, entitled existence, but because they are thrown into adult roles to support their families, contribute financially to the household, help raise the siblings, get meals on the tables, help with their parents health issues. It’s too bad as a society we think someone like Kendall has anything meaningful to say.

    • smcollins says:

      ^^^Exactly this! Couldn’t agree more.

    • Val says:

Exactly. And I had the misfortune of watching an episode of KuwtK and she was terribly immature and entitled. I don’t see how she has “grown up” at all.

      • Josephine says:

Val, I think the media mistakes over-sexualized at a young age and going to bars at a young age with “growing up.” Mature she is not.

    • Chrissy says:

Agree, but somehow she’s become the spokesperson for her generation. What is this society coming to? SMH

    • littlestar says:

You stated it perfectly. There are a lot of 19 years out there who are incredibly mature because of their own personal life experiences. I find it hard to believe that Kendall, someone who has been spoiled and pampered her whole life, with little education and no other job besides modelling, is actually mature or adult-like. I’m sure she thinks she’s mature because she’s been around adults most of her life, but I doubt she’s had anything happen in her life to make her more mature. She seems to lack self-awareness.

    • Aubree says:

      This

  5. Willa says:

At 65 she’ll probably be obsessing over the fountain of youth like her mother and sisters.

  6. NewWester says:

Kendall can be considered a model and as long as she keeps getting modelling gigs, plus is financially wise with her money. She should have a successful career. Kim on the other hand, what actually does she do? I could easily see her and Justin Beiber on a E Network special ” What ever happened to?”

    • perplexed says:

Yeah, I think Kendall has a legitimate career. The younger ones are lucky they don’t have the shadow of a sex tape lurking over them.

  7. Lis says:

People I loved died when I was little and nobody talked to me about it. Growing up too fast happens all the time.

  8. scout says:

Not fun to grow up too fast when you are that young but don’t blame her, blame the K family. Even her dad had to quit and run out of the relationship to grow up and do what he wants to do finally. She is doing well now, so shouldn’t complain but be grateful for a career.

  9. Jayna says:

I lost a billion brain cells when reading that for the Wall Street Journal. I like Kendall and wish her well. But my 16-year-old niece could write a more mature piece than what Kendall wrote. Reading some books and maybe taking a college course might help her. And her viewpoint of hard work is so skewed when talking about her family all working so hard.

    Give me a break.

    • littlestar says:

That’s why I think she’s still pretty immature, her piece lacked depth and clarity. I finished reading it and thought, what makes her think she’s an adult now?

I feel bad for the two younger girls, missing out on an education and real childhood has severely limited them in social/life skills. But then again, Kendall is at an age where she can start thinking for herself and finish her high school education if she wanted to.

  10. maeliz says:

She lost her childhood because PMK had put them on the show so young. They definitly had no choice about showing themselves grow up for the world to see. Dragging them everywhere when PMK seemed to care for Kim. They grew up rich, but that’s not everything a kid needs. She seems like the best and actually pretty, so maybe she’ll get away and have a good career

  11. Katrina says:

She really brings nothing to the table.

  12. kri says:

I’m just gonna stamp a “Bitch, Please” on thisone and move on.

  13. Dawn says:

First of all the so called book they wrote with a Ghost writer would mean they did some work on the book with the ghost writer. Kendall and Kylie admitted that not only did NOT write it they did NOT read it. I think the issues with this family keep getting worse because of all their lies. And then there was her little temper tantrum about not getting served at lunch and ditching out on a bill or trying to and throwing money at the waitress who ran her down. That shows not only a lack of maturity but also a lack of empathy. This kid doesn’t know what hard work truly is and never will unless something really bad happens to the family fortune and the way they spend money it most certainly could happen. I think it is a shame that the WSJ does not do more research about the people they are profiling.

  14. word says:

Typical for a Kardashian/Jenner. They get someone else to do the work but take all the credit and money lol.

Also, how on earth can she say she grew up seeing her family working all the time? That’s the biggest lie.
