A lot of Game of Thrones people attended the SAG Awards, probably with the hope that they would win Best Ensemble for the first time. They didn’t. Downton Bloody Abbey won Best Ensemble, because NOOOOooo. I’m sorry, but there is no way in hell that Downton has a better ensemble than Game of Thrones. At all. Poor tiny Kit Harington’s resting sadface was even sadder. That’s what you did, SAGs!
Anyway, let’s talk fashion. Gwendoline Christie was pleased as punch to be there, and she wore the biggest, brightest dress she could find. This red gown is by Giles. I don’t like it because it’s satin and it’s wrinkled and I actually don’t think it’s that flattering, but I love her for trying. She’s going for an Old Hollywood vamp look, and bless her for it.
Emilia Clarke wore Donna Karan Atelier. Yeah, I don’t believe this is atelier. It’s really poorly tailored and she looks just as pregnant as Amy Poehler to me.
Natalie Dormer in Naeem Khan. CB liked this dress a lot. It did stand out in a sea of solid colors and I didn’t actively hate it. She was probably the best-dressed out of all the GoT ladies, actually. Nice beachy hair too. Her styling felt very natural, nothing too overdone.
Maisie Williams in a red Azaelea lace dress. She looked cute. She’s getting taller too. Soon she will tower over Kit Harington.
I don’t have an ID on Sophie Turner’s dress, but I like it a lot. She’s pretty, she’s young, why not wear heart-shoes, you know?

You know, if you just look at the dress, it’s not great. But when you look at the whole picture, she looks fantastic. Her genuine pleasure in being there (and obviously feeling amazing in the dress) elevates the entire look.
I think the colour looks amazing on her pale skin, and if you’d remove the outer stiff skirt thingy, it would look really good. And yes, she looks like she feels fantastic in it.

As a fellow Amazon, I love love LOVE her; she normalizes substantial height on a woman in television. Everything about this particular look for her works because of the smile she’s got on.
I love the color and that she wears heels, but the styling of this at the hips is flattering to no one.
I was at an event with Gwendoline a few months ago and she is is absolutely stunning in real life. She works the hell out of her height and her legs go on forever.

Am I the only one who has noticed that Maisie’s dress doesn’t fit? Like, at all? In some pictures, you’re just like, “Honey, don’t lean forward. Don’t lean forward. Please don’t lean forward.” It’s super awful. It would have been nice—- If it actually fit. It literally looked like she’d been given a much taller, bustier actress’s dress by accident.
The SAG awards were just the worst, fashion wise. But at least it got me to care about the SAG Awards for once, if only to gape at the bad clothes.
On a positive note: KIT HARINGTON DITCHED THE MAN BUN THANK GOD. It was seriously sucking all of the hot out of his face and replacing it with a windowless van.
I think Maisie’s problem is she needs to stand up straight and put her shoulders back. The dress looks too big because she’s slouching.

Yay, all my girls! (And Kit, I guess. He’s just sort of there.) Maisie was best dressed in my opinion – cute, fun, age-appropriate dress. She’s said in interviews that she loves playing with fashion so I always like seeing her hit her stride. Her makeup looks heavy here but photographed better in other pictures.
Sophie’s beautiful and her hair and makeup are on point, but that dress is like the absence of a fashion statement. That’s what you wear if you don’t want anyone to talk about your outfit. Gwen is a bombshell, but her outfit is purposely over-the-top. Emilia… wow… what happened?
And I hated Natalie’s look! She looks washed out without a hint of color on her face, and her hair looks understyled. That’s literally what my hair looks like after I sleep in braids and have to use a little dry shampoo because it’s dirty. She’s done so much better.

I’m reminded of two things:
1 – How much I prefer Natalie as a brunette. She’s gorgeous no matter what, but the blonde washes her out and detracts from her unique features.
2- How utterly overrated Emilia Clarke is. Don’t get me wrong, she’s pretty enough, in the way that any number of young women are pretty. However, if it weren’t for that wig and those dragons, she’d be nowhere near the top of any ‘Hot 1OO’ lists.
I found that with Orlie Bloom too- without the Legolas hair he was dull.

I love Sophie and Maisie, their friendship is so cute. They deserve better than the sexist crap that is Game of Thrones. As for their dresses, I like the top part of Maisie’s but not the bottom. I like Sophie’s, but I wish she had gone with something less safe, and I’m not sure I like black on her.

My two favorite characters were Catelyn and Sansa and the show ruined them, they took away their storylines and made them supporting characters to the men around them. They also continually turn consensual sex scenes into rape scenes (and then deny it was a rape scene). They take out Arianne and replace her with Trystane for no real reason,.They turn Arya into a girl hater, with her line “most girls are stupind” when no such thing happened in the books. They turn Loras and Renly into walking cliches. Now it seems they are turning Sansa into some sex nymph, when in the books, her strength was not in being sexy but in being ladylike. Also there is a difference between a world having sexism, and the writing having sexism, and in this show the writing is sexist as well as the world. Have you read the books? I mean even GRRM is distancing himself from the show, and he disapproved of the Cersei, Jaime sept scene.
I mean for heavens sake one of the producer’s said the sept scene wasn’t rape, because “it became consensual at the end.” If you don’t think that is sexist, then I don’t really know what to say.

Then there’s the fact that while we’ve seen long, lingering nude shots of almost all the adult female stars, the men mostly get to keep their clothes on. Even in the same sex scene! If the boys get to see Daenarys naked just about every season, why don’t we girls get treated to a little bit more of the Kingslayer?
And I don’t really get the argument that ”oh this was the Middle Ages, so of course it’s sexist”. It’s not like GoT is going for realism. After all, I don’t believe that there were dragons, direwolves and wildings in the Middle Ages. And there certainly weren’t any fake boobs, ‘natural look’ make up or Westerosi waxes.

I think the problem in Gwendoline’s dress is the fit. The dress is loose. If it was altered to her shape it would’ve looked better. But she rocked it and kudos to her for showing the world that tall girls should not hold back on the color and the heels.
