Does Mandy Moore think Ryan Adams is coming after her money?

Many of us were surprised when Ryan Adams and Mandy Moore announced their split/divorce a few weeks ago. My instinct was that there probably wasn’t a lot of drama and angst about it, that these were just two people that grew apart. But apparently there were blind items about him fooling around, plus stories about him being angsty, moody and douchey in general. So… now I kind of think “good riddance, Mandy!” Well, in any case, “sources” are talking to the tabloids and magazines about what went wrong and what the mood is around their split.

People Magazine says Mandy and Ryan “split forever ago” and “they honestly hadn’t seen each other in forever… There came a point where they almost never did.” People’s sources also say that Mandy’s age was a factor – she was only 24 when they married. And Mandy is a nice, sweet girl and Ryan is angsty and introverted. So, that’s the official story coming from the official gossip bible, People. But what do those dirty gossips at Us Weekly have to say?

Mandy Moore has seen better days. A source tells Us Weekly that the Walk to Remember actress was “totally shocked” by how estranged husband Ryan Adams handled their split. Moore was the one to file for divorce, and her rep confirmed the split to Us on Jan. 23.

“They specifically discussed her filing,” the insider tells Us, explaining that the discussion of divorce then sent Adams into high gear to attempt to resolve the marriage. “He was desperately trying to make it work up until the days before he filed,” the source says.

In court documents obtained by Us Weekly, in which Adams filed for a dissolution of their marriage on Jan. 23, he listed their date of separation as Aug. 4, 2014. However, the insider tells Us there’s no truth to the date. In fact, it’s “coming from there being no prenup and is financially motivated.”

Now that Adams has officially filed, the former pop star is still trying to take the high road. “She had been unhappy for awhile. She tried to make things work and eventually she just had to walk away,” the source tells Us. “She’s trying to keep things civil but is pretty upset about the way he’s handling this.

[From Us Weekly]

I don’t understand the “financially motivated” part of this gossip. Do either of them have a lot of money? I don’t think so. I mean, not in Hollywood terms. Mandy does well enough, I’m sure, and she probably owns a home and has some money saved. Ryan seems more like a perpetually-struggling musician, always touring to pay his bills. Is Mandy worried that Ryan is going to come after her money? Or is he worried that she’ll take him to the cleaners?

Mandy needs to call Katie Holmes’ dad for some legal advice. If he could best Tom Cruise he could wipe the floor with whiny baby Ryan Adams.

  2. Beckymae says:

He does alright…worth over $24 million….I’d say he’s worried about his own $$$

    • Sugar says:

Celebritynetworth.com is not reliable. No one knows what’s in his bank account except for his accountant.

    • Adrien says:

Yep. His past hits Run to You, Summer of 69, and that duet with Barbra made him famous and wealthy.

    • PrincessMe says:

Well, I looked up both their net worth (I don’t know how current/accurate these things are) and they’re pretty close. His was listed at $24M as you said and hers at $23M, so let’s hope they both just move on and not try to take the other “to the cleaners”. This report is probably nonsense.

When was the last time Mandy Moore had a hit film/song/whatever? It’s weird, she’s never totally faded from the spotlight but she hasn’t actually done much.

    • Shambles says:

She was the voice of Rapunzel in “Tangled” which was a really popular kid’s movie (better than Frozen imo, don’t hurt meh), so I’m sure she got some solid money from that. I know she also did a movie with Kellan Lutz a couple of years ago called Love, Wedding, Marriage (my mom loves romcoms and discovered it on one of her premium movie channels) and it was actually pretty cute. Super romcom-y, but cute. Anyway, she still works. She manages to keep a low profile, but she still does some little things here and there. I’ll bet she’s got a decent bank account.

      • Heather says:

Yes! To Rapunzel being better than Frozen. You’ve given me the courage to say it… I didn’t like Frozen

      • Senaber says:

I always wondered how long Disney voice work keeps paying. Like, I would think there are opportunities for talking merchandise, CDs (especially since she sings too), shows and attractions at the park where you hear the characters voice or songs, etc.

      • kcarp says:

Holy cow I didn’t know she was the voice of Rapunzel. I have a 3 year old, Rapunzel is A list at my house.

I like Rapunzel better too. I think the songs carry Frozen without the songs Frozen would be mildly popular.

      • Dani says:

She also did that really good movie maybe 5-6 years ago, Because I Said So, with Gabriel Macht and Diane Keaton. It was constantly playing on HBO.

    • Krista says:

She does a lot of voice work now on cartoons.

    No prenup? Facepalm.

  5. EC says:

I would think that they are pretty much on equal terms financially. He had a pretty successful 2014 music wise – releasing some CD’s, EPs and touring a bit, and Mandy plugs along at work. I think there are bitter feelings (ahem, he seems like a cheating douche) so the money fights may spring from that. Hope Mandy comes out of it ok. She seems like a sweet girl who is better off without him.

  6. Rhiley says:

Back in the day- way back in the day- Ryan Adams was a really great singer, songwriter, musician. Some of his older albums are some of my favorite albums of all time, but after Lucky Tiger- 2006ish right?- I just can’t listen to him. He really sucks now in my opinion. But I think he still has a pretty loyal fan base, and I don’t think he struggles at all. He has his own label and produces his own music. Granted, it sucks, but it is out there, and he still gets a lot of love from critics. He is a critical darling and will likely take home a few Grammys this year. Now if he goes after MM’s money, I will be surprised. I think he is a probably a half full bucket of turds, but not a completely full bucket of turds. I could be wrong, though.

  7. familar says:

It has been reported that Mandy has asked for spousal support. Pre-nups sometimes have a expiration date. Ryan definitely works more than Mandy, he must be the one worried about the fortune.

  8. JB says:

Mandy’s got a decent bank account I would assume from her voice acting work. As for Ryan, I’d hardly think he was struggling. He may not be in the mainstream but he does a lot of songwriting for other musicians, plus some of his songs get covered by other artists and go on to be hits (i.e., When the Stars Go Blue – Tim McGraw, etc.)

    • Anne says:

I agree with you. His music has also been in a couple of popular movies (Old School, Elizabethtown, Bridesmaids, This is 40), but I don’t know how music licensing works in terms of payout. Is it all up front, or are there residuals?

  9. Lila says:

“And Mandy is a nice, sweet girl and Ryan is angsty and introverted.”

Introverted?? Why the heck is that being used like a pejorative? Being introverted doesn’t make a bad partner any more than being extroverted makes a good one.

    • M says:

I agree. I think it was alluding to the guy breaking up with her & then writing a douchey open letter about not being able to handle the attention he got while with her. If he didn’t want attention why write an open letter about it?! He reminds me of my 4-yr-old….no, yes, no, yes….so I’m not sure about the introvert part. He just sounds like a self serving jerk.

      • Lila says:

Lol! That does sound like quite a childish move. Well I can agree with that rationale. I just wish there had been a wiser word choice.

    • Sarah says:

Introverted and extroverted can be used as pejoratives – it all depends on context. And it was totally warranted in this case. Run, Mandy, run! Get into some great rom coms and sing the soundtrack with your beautiful voice.

  10. Dani says:

Honestly…if there are no kids in the situation, I don’t think either one should be entitled to the other persons earnings. JMHO. If they’re both consistently working, were fine before they got together, the should be fine apart.

  11. poppy says:

i doubt either of them are worried about money or getting their hands on the others.

  12. Bridget says:

I wouldn’t describe Ryan as a perpetually struggling musician. He’s put together a nice catalogue of songs and he tours because he has a really loyal fan base.

And Mandy as well may not have hit it big but she’s put together a nice steady career. Tangled is fantastic. But I really hope that the next guy she gets together with finally breaks the jerk cycle, because she seems very nice and warm.

  13. Kristina says:

Mandy is good at Disney. She currently has a show on Disney junior, in addition to Tangled still selling well. Her show is “Sheriff Callie”.

  14. Thomas Martin says:

She needs to go back to Vince.
