Uma Thurman responds to Botox rumors, claims it was just makeup

I’ve never gotten Botox or fillers, but it seems like it takes a few weeks for injectibles to “wear off,” right? Like, at first your face will look puffy and frozen and slowly, the stuff wears off a little bit and everything sort of “deflates” and you can move your eyebrows and cheeks a little bit. I’m wondering because of the ongoing debate about Uma Thurman’s face.

If you asked me on Tuesday if I was 100% sure that Uma had overdone the Botox and fillers, I would have said “of course she did.” Then on Wednesday, we heard from Uma’s makeup artist, who claimed that Uma’s new look was simply the product of no eye makeup. While I thought he was full of it, I also have to admit that the lack of eye makeup really did throw off the look of her face. Then on Thursday, Uma appeared on the Today Show and she wore eye makeup and her hair is a little bit different, and she looks relatively normal. Did the Botox and fillers wear off quickly? Or was it all a makeup-induced optical illusion?

When asked about the comments about her Botox work, Uma laughed (or tried to laugh through the ‘Tox) and said: “Um, I don’t know. I guess nobody liked my makeup!… I mean, I’ve been doing this for years and years and years. People say things nice…and they say things mean. It’s just, like, whatever! You know, you take the good with the bad.”

So, she’s still sticking with the story that it was just makeup. Which, granted, I’m now saying that the makeup fail was a big part of this. But I paid close attention to how her face moved as she was speaking, and there’s certainly enough evidence to suggest that she has had injectibles. Her forehead is like granite! But the cheeks aren’t quite so puffy in this interview.

Sure now I’m supposed to be blind & stupid?

    • Tristan says:

Actually, as a habitual user of Botox myself, I can tell you that she is definitely NOT freshly or recently Botoxed. You can see lines on her forehead & around her eyes. When the Botox is fairly recent, one’s lines tend to disappear. It is just a weird make up look that has washed out her eyes & put all the emphasis on her red & prominent lips

      • mimif says:

It just looks like a combo of really bad makeup & a few injections to me.

      • Felice says:

I’m thinking about it for my migraines but I’m trying other remedies first.

      • The other paige says:

The wonky eye tells the tale….

      • Pandy says:

I use botox as well and I think her forehead is frozen and I think she has had some fillers as well. She just hasn’t done much around her eyes – i don’t either. I had thought it was severe hair and bad make up, but seeing the video, I now think it’s subtle botox and fillers.

      • supposedtobeworking says:

@felice, I can relate. I waited a few years to try Botox for migraines, but I have had 4 rounds of it now. I get a bit in my upper forehead, then the rest of the injections are along the side of my head, the back of my head, my hairline at the back, and I have it in my neck/shoulder junction. I was having them 20 days/month, now down to 4ish. I am so thankful to be able to ~live~ and participate in life again. I have 2 youngish kids, and a husband, and its been nice to be more engaged. I had spent 9 years trying other stuff – massage, acupuncture, herbals, homeopathic, hydrotherapy, preventative meds and treatment meds. I still use treatment meds when needed. My second round didn’t work very well, but the other 3 have. I can go 4 months between treatments.
Just thought I would relay personal experience, not try to convince you either way.

Her eye shape looks a bit different to me.

  2. friday says:

Maybe it’s true about her eyes, but there’s no way her forehead hasn’t been frozen or smoothed. I wonder if these women are self-deluded or just liars.

    • Sugar says:

Some people just naturally don’t have wrinkles on their foreheads. I don’t. I have wrinkles around my eyes but none on my forehead, which is smooth but I’ve never used Botox.

    • Someonestolemyname says:

Maybe it’s not botox, but another filler.
I have a friend who works in a plastic surgeons office and she said women get another filler ( can’t remember name).., but she laughs because those women always say No I don’t get Botox, because it’s true….but they are getting another filler…..

Also it looks like UMA may have put maybe five pounds on and it showing in her face, being a bit more fuller.

I think she still had something done, maybe NOT Botox but something else.

  3. Laurie says:

People weren’t claiming she just had a lick of botox. They were claiming her face was completely different, like she looked like a whole new woman. The whole story was blown so far out of proportion, and she never in that Today interview denied that she hasn’t had any injectibles.

It’s like the media is trying to save face, since it’s quite clear that she still looks like Uma Thurman.

  4. Lahdidahbaby says:

I think she was ‘toxed all to hell and then her eye make-up was deliberately left off afterwards so that we would attribute her changed appearance to that. I even think it’s possible that one of her eyes took on a wonky, smaller look in the procedures and it was less discernible without make-up creating clearly-defined borders around her eyes.

    • smee says:

      precisely

    • GingerCrunch says:

Bingo! They’re sooooo clever, aren’t they? You mean to tell me she’s out promoting something and didn’t get freshened up? Bullsh!t.

    • The other paige says:

Yes I agree-the old change the make-up or debut a new hairdo trick.

    • mytbean says:

Maybe injectables but not that much. She just doesn’t look THAT much different to me. Other than that I think she’s just getting older and gaining a bit of weight. As usual, people are associating her aging looks to bad modifications and it’s just sad how unaccustomed to aging we are that we jump to that.

As for her eyes – in the past few years I’ve been suffering with dry eye injuries and part of me wonders if that’s now what’s going on with her. She looks like I do when I wake up in the morning with a scratch on my cornea. Make-up aggravates the ever loving h3ll out of it so I have to go bare. And the eye that’s affected tends to squint without my control. It sucks.

  5. Esmom says:

It is true that eye makeup or lack thereof can make a huge difference. But I still think something’s really different about her face.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I agree. My eyelashes are invisible without mascara, so I look very different without makeup, but there’s something puffy and weird going on here, too.

    • Someonestolemyname says:

Also her eye shape looks just a bit different.
Her eyes use to show a bit more white under the eyeball area….that seems to have disappeared now. Her eyes look tighter.

  6. Amy says:

The woman has lines and bags under her eyes and around her mouth so I’m still waiting for the magical transformation everyon was obsessed with.

Is there a point when we stop punishing women for moments they manage to look good vs. look awful? Too much plastic surgery, not enough.

She still looks her age but because she didn’t look like the miserable woman most were expecting she has to have had a face transplant or whatever else was circling the rumor mill?

  7. Louise177 says:

I’m surprised so many people still think she had a lot of plastic surgery/botox. Uma looks like herself on the Today Show. I do think it is the makeup considering how different she looked a few days ago. Even if she did have botox/fillers, I don’t think it’s obviously as claimed.

  8. Lilacflowers says:

Is she trying to look like Joni Mitchell?

  9. Velvet Elvis says:

…and Kylie Jenner’s new blow up doll face is just lip liner.

  10. Brittney B says:

Take this with a grain of salt, but according to Blind Gossip, she really didn’t have that much done, and it WAS the styling that made her look so drastically different…

“She had lower blepharoplasty to get rid of the bags under her eyes. She also had a very small amount of injectables. Seriously. That’s it. She would have gotten away with it, too, and simply looked “refreshed” if she hadn’t changed her overall styling so drastically. She thought the change in hair and makeup would be a distraction, but it actually had the opposite effect and brought too much attention to everything.”

I’m sure she’s had other work done throughout the past decade, but I totally believe this. As others pointed out in the original story, bangs, neutral lips and smoky eyes are integral to her whole look.

    • Tulip says:

I read about that too. I could believe it. Really, she’ll always be pretty, but it’s off putting when you don’t recognize someone, that’s all. I’m still taking deep breaths about Renee Zellweger.

  11. Ginger says:

I will give Uma the benefit of the doubt concerning the eye makeup because some women really do look different without it and some don’t. BUT how can you explain the fact that I literally did not recognize her from her photos until I looked at the caption name? That to me says that she’s done something radical. She looks really puffy and I can only attribute that to A) an allergic reaction or B) Fillers.

  12. candice says:

What’s up with Savannah’s “I don’t know what people were talking about” comment? Is she blind or just a fawning, faux journalist. Can’t believe it was suggested somewhere that she could be a contender for the Brian Williams job if he doesn’t return. So much for asking the tough questions LOL.

    • kay says:

It’s the TODAY show, not hard news. Savannah is hardly the next Walter Cronkite, what do you expect but soft ball questions and incessant flattery ffs?

    • Becky1 says:

Savannah is annoying. Now that she’s had a child, she’s one of those celebs who always has to bring up how she’s a Mom (the whole “As a Mom, I…..”). I swear, I sometimes think that one of the reasons some of these celebs, news personalities, etc. have kids is that they think it will help them appeal to a broader audience. I’m not saying it’s the only or the main reason, just that I think it factors in at least a little bit.

  13. manatee says:

I’m completely neutral regarding her doing botox or fillers, I think she does sometimes, who – in her age – resists…
But I can remember that in an interview for a german newspaper (don’t remember the name of it) about 5 years ago she spoke about her prolems with being swollen especially after a flight and she always had to deal with some oedema problems. This might explain her swollen eyelids. When I had a rough night with a lot of alcohol then my eyelids are really thick and full of water and I’m not having botox

  14. Birdix says:

I thought she looked older but really beautiful with that makeup. Loved it. But I doubt she’ll try that again.

  15. scout says:

If it’s true, she should fire her makeup artist asap!

  16. Talie says:

I believe her. I think she’s had injectibles, but on the Today Show — she looked how she always does. She may just need a lot of eye makeup or she looks like a ghost.

  17. halleygee says:

Who cares if she uses botox or not? My own mother does and I know many women in their 40’s (not movie stars in the least) who get the injections. I don’t but I don’t care if someone else does, and why would I care if Uma Thurman does?

  18. Someonestolemyname says:

Actresses in Hollywood are getting fillers in their 20’s, many of them have been doing fillers for years and years.
I just don’t get the big deal, if you get a needle poke for fillers in that business, but when it turns out making you look like a different person completely …well ….

UMA is beautiful, I hope whatever she did is not done again. She’s a lovely looking lady.

  19. India says:

She doesn’t even look like herself.

  20. Jordan says:

BROW LIFT & EYELIDS There’s no doubt, but she does look much better with mancara, as we all do.

  21. Sparkly says:

I thought it was really crappy makeup. She does look drastically different with the deep lips and zero eye makeup. Eyes make such a difference.

I initially also thought they they reddened her brows (not good) and used a foundation/powder that was far too light for her. These pics also show (which I didn’t notice the first time I saw them) a very heavy-awful foundation ring around her forehead. Someone either just matched her colors way wrong/differently or was playing with contouring and just wasn’t any good.

  22. Annie says:

She looks kinda like Tilda Swinton now.

  23. CH2 says:

You know this has kind of gone far and beyond what it needs to. Just acknowledge it, shake your head a little and move on with your life. It’s her effing face and she doesn’t need to justify it to anyone. It kind of just becomes bullying after a while… Jeeesus.

    • jammypants says:

Exactly. I don’t get the whole mob mentality of “Out with it and own it!!” while holding pitchforks. If she did, it’s her face. If she didn’t, it’s the makeup. Big whoop.

  24. Jag says:

So it’s settled a bit and she decides to do an interview? That doesn’t mean she didn’t use fillers. It just looks like it’s settled more now.

  25. Obsidian says:

So, what’s wrong with botox and fillers? If it can make you look good, feel good, why not? It’s just another form of make-up. Just don’t do it if you’re still young and don’t overdo it till your face looks frozen.

  26. My money is on a blepheroplasty for eye bags, as many of the experts have been saying. A blepheroplasty can really change your look dramatically. Even though it is such a small procedure. Exhibit A: renee zelwegger
