Gwyneth Paltrow to Joaquin Phoenix: ‘go live in the projects’

90313L5

It’s anybody’s guess as to whether Joaquin Phoenix’s rap career is some kind of brain-dead performance art or a genuine, crazy, authentic attempt for the talented actor to try his hand at something new. To me, his weird antics somehow seem fake, like a bad improvisation that went off the rails. I have little sympathy for him, because I think he’s pissing away his considerable talent with this act.

As it turns out, Gwyneth “The Goop” Paltrow sort of feels the same way. She was being interviewed by MTV UK when she was asked about her Two Lovers co-star Joaquin. She stuck her nose up in the air and declared that her advice to him would be “maybe to go live in the projects for a few years to get some authenticity, maybe.” Oh, Dame Goopy! People Magazine has more:

Gwyneth Paltrow has some advice for her friend and costar Joaquin Phoenix about his new career path: Get some street cred.

Popular belief is that Phoenix’s saying goodbye to acting and launching a hip-hop career could be an elaborate hoax despite his publicist’s assertions to the contrary.

“I think that there might be some other explanation or something going on. I’m not quite sure what, but I can’t believe that he’s really going to quit [acting] forever to become a rapper,” she told MTV UK during a promotional junket for Two Lovers. “It seems odd.”

When asked what advice she has for her costar, who also appears in Two Lovers, she replied, “Hmm … maybe to go live in the projects for a few years to get some authenticity, maybe.”

[From People Magazine]

Lord, she really is a snot, isn’t she? I bet she even said it with her fake British accent too. “Go to the projects, daah-ling!” There’s an old saying: “My enemy’s enemy is my friend.” Roughly, in this case it means that if you’ve done something to get Gwyneth Paltrow all snotty and sanctimonious (really tough, I know), you’re doing something right. If I have to choose between Joaquin and Gwyneth, I’m going to choose the Unabomber Hobo Rapper any day of the week.

It’s worth mentioning that Gwyneth Paltrow basically has authenticity on nothing. Her Goopy mess of a website is getting universally slammed, her gym project is hemorrhaging money, and the rumor is that her marriage to Chris Martin is failing. Who is she to criticize Joaquin?

I’m trying hard not to hate on her. After all, I do like some of her movies (The Royal Tenenbaums, Emma, Great Expectations, Sliding Doors, even Shallow Hal), and she was always funny as hell on SNL. But what has become of her? It’s like she’s trying to be smug or something. Maybe because celebrities are constantly asked their opinions on everything, they start to believe their opinions are freaking gold or something.

  2. lway says:

I agree with you Pixiegirl. I’ve never really liked Gwyneth though. The only movie i thought she was “not bad” in was Seven. I however really liked Joaquin sometime back and i am really dissapointed by what has become of him.

It’s sad. The only thing they can do is act – whenever they try and do something else, they fail miserably….

  3. geronimo says:

Hmmm. Goopy advising other people how to reconnect with reality? Can I say credibility fail? I don’t really care what Joaquin Phoenix is up to, his life, but it’s really reading as closer to performance art than mental breakdown.

  4. gg says:

pixie, what happened to her is she moved to England and, little by little, fed herself the delusion that her “$hit don’t stink”.

  5. J-Lin says:

Believe it or not, but not all rappers come from the projects.

  6. anneesezz says:

OMG, that was so racist. She is such a dumb b*tch.

  7. anonymous says:

The good ones usually had a hard life b4 they became famous. Most (certainly not all) with substance at least.

  8. Lina says:

Gwyneth has got a little bit of the “Victoria Beckham’s scary neck” thing going on in that pic.

  9. Lem says:

hoo-hoo those pictures are a riot. Look when your marriage falls apart you get some slack on being a B. Her publicity is so awful lately she needs to just stop making comments and appearances for a minute.
It’s kind of amazing how much people can change. You don’t so much see it with the people you know. You certainly can see the vast changes in celebrity. Can you imagine Affleck or Pitt (both of whom I believe she was engaged to) living with her now?
Goop has always, always, seemed more than a tad uppity but she seems hell bent on taking it to a new level.

I do hope Joaquin wraps up whatever it is he is doing soon.

I agree with Gwyneth. Jacquin has run off the rails and has NO cred as a rapper. People would kill to have his opportunity. He’s flipping the bird at Hollywood, which is going to forget him. Say goodbye to your cash you idiot. At least Gwyneth is still working, whatever projects you agree or disagree with. She ACTs because she is an Oscar-winning actress. And she can have an opinion too.

  11. Wow says:

I love this girl’s fashion sense, but could she please keep her mouth shut? How appropriate that CB has a picture of her with her nose in the air. Too funny!

And someone needs to tell her that not every rapper is from a ghetto. *Shaking my head* She needs to sit down for a bit, until the next red carpet.

  12. barneslr says:

She is a complete ass. She has no clue about anything…much less on rap or what makes one credible under any circumstance. Perhaps when she gains credibility as something more than a spoiled, self centered, egotistical bitch she’ll have something worthwhile to say. But I doubt it. She certainly has NO credibility whatsoever as an actress.

Can’t someone just shut this moron up?

  13. barneslr says:

Luckystar: Having an oscar only means that you are friends with the right people. It hasn’t meant that one has talent for a long, long time.

  14. Lem says:

WOW: I heard you say that before, about her fashion sense. lol. while today’s outfit doesn’t give me any issues normally I think WTF? So funny, last time you said that, the shoes she was wearing made me cringe. lol I’m no fashionista but I always want to stage some sort of ‘fashion intervention’ for Goop 😉 I can’t think of one red carpet look of hers I have liked.

  15. ash says:

I don’t get him. Even if this IS an act, oh…great you can act crazy? Good for you? What’s the point of this?

  16. Samantha says:

Love her as an actress, cant STAND her as a human being. I will be slightly sad when she fades away, but I hope it happens sooner rather than later so that she gets a taste of reality and why she should appreciate the few fans she has left.

  17. Annie says:

Hey. I vote if Joaquin wants to try his hand at the rap game, let him. They’ll handle him. Ms. Paltrow doesn’t need her two cents.

The rap community will not hesitate to boo your ass right off Apollo’s stage 😛

  18. Baholicious says:

I’d like to see her fancy car break down in the projects. Hmm, Watts around 2am would work.

  19. stopit says:

stop it, she is telling the truth. he is disrespecting the culture of hip hop by trying to be down in such a fake manner.

  20. Sijoi says:

    Culture? Are you serious?

Most of the “rappers” nowadays are clowns, very large clowns. This duke can’t do anymore damage then has already been done to the genre.

  21. Ryo says:

The “culture of rap”? Really? Really?

  22. Candy says:

    Unabomber Hobo Rapper
    LMAO

  23. fuckgweneth says:

fuck that ignorant bitch Gweneth palthrowaway
does all rappers come from the projects.dumb cunt

  24. kaligula says:

wow, this thread has made my day. thank you people. i’m especially delighted by all the funny goop-related nicknames for her…. dame goop, goopy, miss goop…. oh how she deserves it. and you’re right on target, pixie girl, she really does seem to regard her opinions as solid gold. sad and funny.

  25. Michele says:

It’s a shame she can’t be as charming, kind and magnanimous as her mother, Blythe Danner. Gwyneth is a grade-A frigid biatch with an ego that could easily give J.Lo’s a run for it’s money.

  26. rhoniluv says:

i can’t stand that stuck up cunt.

not all rappers/hip hop artists come from the projects you ho-bag!

& uh…MAY-BE…fug-ho needs to have an actual IN-TER-EST-ING life, before creating a ‘lifestyle’ website.

ya know…”to get some authenticity, maybe.”

  27. Sarah says:

How could anyone admit to liking “Shallow Hal?”

  28. kayla says:

    Ummm…

    She’s right.

  29. MizCatwalk20 says:

This guy isnt serious is he? As far as Ms. Paltrow goes, Hip Hop isnt neccesarily centered around the “projects” Ludacris didnt live in the projects, he went a private school, alot of major artists today didnt grow up in poverty. That’s where this bad stereotype begins. That’s why we have to know how to separate Rap from Hip Hop. It’s an art. And whether you grew up in the worst slums or the best of the best, if you have the ability to put today’s troubles and issues that people deal with into music, then you are going to be recognized. No he shouldnt live in the damn projects. He should travel to Congo and Somalia and places where people( including children) are getting murdered every 5 minutes. He should open up some law books, and then sit in on a court hearing for someone who was a victim of police brutality. He should stop while on the streets and listen to an old homeless veteran’s story, he should spend a few months in Iraq, he should go to the jails across the country and speak to some of the convicted felons, he should go to a Women’s Haven House, and a few rehabs ( and not the ones strictly for rich attention craved celebs) he should read up on the history of our own country. These are things that will give him a broader knowledge on what to speak about in his lyrics. Not booty shaking hoochies, 24 inch rims, kilos of coke, a freaking artillery, and millions of dollars…..Living in the freaking projects doesnt have anything to do with anything. It’s not a priviledge, or an honor to grow up or to have to raise your kids around the type of corruption that goes on in the “hood”. This isnt some tour of duty. This is the way alot of poor and sometimes confused Americans have to live. And if you are none of the above, why in the heck would you want to pretend????? Bimbo…..

  30. MizCatwalk20 says:

Maybe she should have asked Jay-Z while at his wedding to Beyonce, if he still frequents Marcy Projects (in BK) to get his lyrical hype. I’m pretty sure he would tell her no. As a matter of fact, in one magazine, he was stated saying something like, “i’m no way fake by not hanging out on the corner, people post up on the corner because they have to, it’s like dude, you’re out here because you want to??? yeah right.” True words spoken.

  31. Bee says:

Does she really think all rappers come from the projects!!!!!!!!! What a racist, snobbish statement ….What is she famous for ???????? Perfect example of my parents getting me work and knowing all the right people ……she would have never made it on her own…. like most rappers! Maybe that’s why she was so jealous of J-Lo …..Know one gave her and many others anything but rejection and they are still more famous and way more talented than she is!!!!!!! Can you become a has been if you never were???
