Jennifer Aniston’s layered NYC street style: totally cute or unflattering?

FFN_Aniston_Jennifer_KET_042715_51724009

Jennifer Aniston is surprisingly not holed up in Bel Air. Shocking! She’s been in NYC for a few days, and these are some photos of Jennifer and Amanda Anka out for dinner last night. Anka is Jason Bateman’s wife – Bateman and Aniston have worked together so many times, and Jason and Amanda are part of the group of friends that Jennifer has cultivated in LA. It makes sense that Amanda and Jennifer would do dinner by themselves, I guess. They went to Nobu, and from what I can tell, Jason did not join them. And neither did Justin Theroux. I guess Jennifer is in NYC to spend time with Justin, although I couldn’t honestly tell you that Justin is currently in NYC. Last I heard, he was in Rome working on Zoolander 2. Last I heard, there was trouble in JustJen-ville.

Let’s talk about Jennifer’s street style, shall we? I’ve always thought that Jennifer’s personal, casual style was a lot better than her red carpet style, probably because I identify with Jennifer’s casual style. She has some great jeans in her closet, and some really cute sweaters, coats, sandals, blouses. I don’t hate her look here – I was going to bitch about the rolled-up jeans, but I think she needed to do that for the boots. The coat and scarf are too bulky, but there’s been a chill in the air on the West Coast, so I’ll give her that too. She’s still wearing her engagement ring too (SO CLOUDY, like a quartz).

I wonder if Jennifer is going to turn up at a dinner with Amal and George Clooney. Remember, George and Jennifer are “friends” now. They party together in Cabo. I would think that Amal is trying to jettison some of George’s friends though, so does Amal approve of Aniston?

It’s been unusually chilly here in Nyc. Especially when the sun sets. A bit of a wind and damp. We are praying for improvement.

  2. doofus says:

a “chill” in the air?! It’s freakin’ COLD OVER HERE!

I love the whole look. and I agree on the casual vs. red carpet styling.

    • Esmom says:

Yeah here in Chicago it’s depressingly frigid, more like early March than late April. I plan to wear my warmest coat and bring a down blanket to my son’s baseball game tonight. Good times.

I like her look too although I am not a fan of ripped jeans.

      • doofus says:

agree, I’m not usually a fan of ripped jeans (I look ridiculous in them) but I think she pulls it off here.

      • Kitten says:

I admit that I have a gross obsession with ripped jeans. I don’t know why I love them so much but I just do.

It’s been freezing here too-so effin windy as well. BUT 70 on Sunday and 80s next week. This is so typical New England-we never get a real Spring, we just jump from winter to summer. Sigh.

      • FLORC says:

My flowers got hit with frost 2 nights in a row! Jack Frost needs to back off!
It does come with the area though. And we’re tough enough to just go with it while never fully packing up our winter sweaters and coats until May.

Her outfit is cute and appropriate with exception to those jeans and boots. That crop hem looks silly on her.

      • doofus says:

FLORC, I don’t put my snow shovel or winter clothes away until May.

        I kid you not.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

        @doofus
We still have snow on the ground–and not just a few flakes–leftover from when it snowed for two days straight last week. Ergh.

      • doofus says:

        VC, you’re in MI, right?

I pity you folks…I thought that, by now (in NJ), we’d be steady in the mid to high 60s but we keep getting days where the HIGH is only around 60, and it’s more like mid-50s for most of the day, with temps in the high 30s when I leave for work. and if you’re not in the sun?…it is DAMN chilly.

    • goofpuff says:

ehh it’s just another pap walk to keep her name in the papers.

    • nikko says:

I also likes the way Jennifer dresses. She looks good in her clothes.

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

Ditto. Love the look except for the wedge soles on the boots. HATE any wedge boots. I like that they are brown leather – love brown with black, and in this case it gives a less studied vibe, not self-consciously matchy. Carolyn Bessette Kennedy used to mix brown with black, and I always loved the look.

I agree about Jennifer’s street style being far superior to her RC style – no contest.

  3. Rhiley says:

This probably would have worked better if the boots were black, but I really hate brown and black together so there’s that. The scarf is a lot to take in. Almost looks like a python wrapping itself around her. Too heavy, too layered. But the jeans are nice and her hair looks really pretty, I think. It is a nice color and the layers are working for her. Goopy could use some layers like Aniston’s.

    • danielle says:

I don’t mind brown and black when they look like they are supposed to be together, but the brown boots bugged me here too, because of the black scarf, coat, and shirt. The brown is just hanging out on its own.

    • lisa says:

i dont like the brown boots either

and amanda’s boots look like something she got from the davey crockett auction at christie’s

  4. Josephine says:

Her hair and glasses are unflattering. She should go with shorter extensions – the long, limpy hair drags her down a bit. The outfit seems fine although the woman next to her has a much cuter look going on. Now that’s style – Jennifer looks comfortable, but not stylish.

    • belle de jour says:

That’s the first thing I thought, as well – with the too-flat hair and the no-neck situation and the oddly-shaped glasses, this look resembles some sort of squashed winter Ninja turtle from the shoulders up.

  5. Lindy79 says:

    I really like it.

  6. Kath says:

    She looks cosy and comfortable.

By the way, Jennifer has been buddies with Jason Bateman for around 25 years. I remember an article about their friendship circle in Rolling Stone magazine in the early ’90s, so they’ve been part of the same crowd for a loong time and Jennifer said on Graham Norton’s show that Jason’s wife is one of her best friends.

Can’t believe I know all that. I need to get out more.

  7. Sugar says:

She looks pretty cute. I live in the subtropics so I’m jealous of her being able to bundle up in sweaters and boots.

    • maeliz says:

I think she looks pretty. I live in Florida so unfortunately I only get to wear winter clothes for a week. I love sweaters and clothes like Jennifers

  8. jamrock says:

It works except the boots those are some ugly shoes

  9. Charlotte says:

I’ve just had a vision of Aniston as a delightfully eccentric grand dame a la Duchess Alba (though obviously not that awesome, because of course).

  10. Tpaz says:

She looks the same all the time *yawn*

  11. Winterberry says:

I think she looks warm and happy. And furthermore, I like the brown boots. It’s too matchy-matchy otherwise.

  12. minx says:

The outfit looks okay. Her hair needs an update, though.

  13. Jenni says:

She looks super cute. I love her casual style.

  14. Size Does Matter says:

That scarf! It looks like she grabbed the afghan off the couch and wound it around her neck.

    • Esmom says:

I tend to be the same way with scarves, the bigger and cozier the better, they are the only way for me to stay warm these days. I have lighter weight versions for warmer days.

      • Size Does Matter says:

Can you turn your head when wearing one? It looks so restrictive to me. But I am in Texas where it rarely gets cold enough to warrant owning such a contraption. (Not that there aren’t plently of ladies who love to break out their furs for two days a year, SMH.)

      • melissa says:

I wear those scarrves too. Of course you can turn your head! I don’t tie it in a skintight knot around my neck

      • doofus says:

what Esmom said…I have a scarf permanently wrapped or draped around my neck…STILL, and I did all winter, too. if you don’t like turtlenecks or find them restrictive, then a scarf is KEY in this weather.

and yeah, you can turn your head…even if it’s wrapped tightly, the fabric is soft and it gives/stretches. but I can dig if you don’t like “things” wrapped around your neck. some folks have a phobia or residual anxiety from a traumatic event that prevents having anything around your neck.

      • VirgiliaCoriolanus says:

I wish I could do scarves, I HATE things on my neck. I always get this really weird, alien feeling, and it drives me crazy, so I can’t wear anything around my neck. I’m constantly yanking at the neckline of my shirts because of this.

      • Cankles says:

I am the same way. If it’s not warm enough for shorts and a swim, I’m wearing a scarf. I am always cold. You’ve actually reminded me that I need to switch out my scarf rack with my “summer” scarves. 😀

    • belle de jour says:

This December, I saw a hipster in Brooklyn who did just that – he wore one of those ugly, crocheted, multi-70s-colored Aunty afghans wrapped several times around as a scarf.
Ironic neckwear as a new trend?
Well, at least it reminded me of my favorite Carol Burnett sketch.

      • doofus says:

have you seen the trend of crochet shorts for men?…

DO NOT GOOGLE THAT IMAGE. you’ve been warned.

  15. anniefannie says:

Is it me or is there a hole on her boot? ( right foot )

  16. Judyk says:

Like this look so much better than the way she normally dresses. Like it except think the scarf should have been brown–LOVE LOVE LOVE the coat.

  17. escondista says:

For all the hair talk hers doesn’t look good

  18. Crumpet says:

Those are ‘boyfriend’ jeans. You are supposed to wear them rolled up. Personally, I couldn’t live without mine, though I don’t usually roll them up (to be honest). And I don’t wear the ones with holes in them to work, but MAN they are so comfortable! More roomie in the crotch, ’cause, you know.

  19. Maya says:

I like this look except for the rolled up jeans (always hated that).

Yep Jennifer looks better doing normal things than she does on the red carpet.

I don’t care about her personal life – I want to know what her next move is regarding her career. There are literally no news about forthcoming projects which is strange since she got nominated for golden globes and the SAGs early this year…

    • Judyk says:

Slightly off topic re the rolled-up jeans look…don’t think it works on everyone. Don’t know who dresses Rachael Ray but she wears that look everyday on her show and it makes her look even shorter than she already is.

  20. taterho says:

I love this look. She looks great. HAIR I DON’T CARE I LOVE HER HAIR.

I don’t like rolled up jeans on men or women. I would just stuff them down into the boots like a goob.

  21. yomamamama says:

ok i live in nyc, it aint that cold

  22. ann says:

I love her look here. Something like I wear when back in the cold.

I see jeans in the store rolled, but I haven’t done that sort of thing since elementary school in the 80’s.

  23. The Original G says:

She looks great. I always wonder, though what she is hiding behind those scarves?

  24. Mrs. Darcy says:

She looks fine, I get the issue with the rolled up jeans but they have their place. I know some days I can’t even contemplate skinny jeans, boot cuts with that kind of boot would look frumpy, so voila, boyfriend/rolled up jeans (which look weird not rolled up unless you have on sandals or something). It’s not the most pulled together color scheme – a scarf in any color other than black would have balanced it out better- but whatever, it looks comfy. I do wonder how she doesn’t go out of her mind with boredom with her hair though. Give us a side part, a barrette, a bun, anything but those hanging highlighted curtains!

  25. Tarsha_ says:

Very bad look. And she looks like Michael Jackson with those glasses.

  26. meme says:

this woman gets criticized for everything. I realize she’s part responsible…she looks fine to me.

  27. Carmen says:

I’ve never been a fan of holey jeans on women of any age. They just look sloppy to me.

  28. AWARD says:

    Is she still eating CAKE

  29. Grace says:

I can not deal with the hair. She needs a better hairstyle,

  30. Mel says:

Justin is in Texas doing the 2nd season of The Leftovers. He spent 1 week in Rome. Your reporting is about as reliable as Star magazine.

  31. Iheartgossip says:

Tweeked her face again, I see.

    • GoOnGirl says:

Iheartgossip, I thought I was the only one who thought she’d done something to her face. The bottom part of her face looks very, very unlined, and the lips have a slight pout to them. What is with the scarf? Why is her neck forever hidden? But my $64,000 question is why she and Justin hardly ever seem to meet in NY together? Even when Philip Hoffman died. I didn’t understand that, because Aniston had worked with him too. And we all know Justin was upset.

  32. Dawn says:

I think she looks great. She is going to dinner with a friend and isn’t how most of us dress while meeting a friend for dinner?

  33. ann says:

She looks awesome dressed like that. I can’t say anything bad about her hair because mine looks exactly the same

  34. maggie says:

She looks amazing! Love her style.

  35. naturegirl says:

God her face looks like silly putty

  36. JRenee says:

Black boots would have been too matchy matchy. She looks fine.

  37. jennet says:

No that close up pic of her face looks like Play-Doh

  38. Jen says:

She looks great, and casual. I love that her boots don’t matchy matchy with her coat and scarf.
