Jaden Smith deleted his Twitter & Facebook: what’s going on with him?

Jaden Smith

Over the past few months, I’ve become a fan of Jaden Smith. I followed his Twitter page and enjoyed his stream of consciousness entries. So I was sad to see that he deleted the entire account. Jaden also deleted his Facebook page and put a padlock on his Instagram account. All of this comes from a 16-year-old boy who’s simply trying to be a kid. I’m surprised that he’s shut himself off, seeing as his age group (and most others) are hooked on social media.

Jaden’s been looking much happier than usual this year, often breaking into spontaneous dance at Coachella and movie premieres. He’s also had a grand time swerving too hard in skirts. Some people believed Jaden was looking for attention, but apparently, he’s tired of the attention.

In memoriam, here are some of my favorite gems from Jaden. Some are a few years old:

* “Haters Are Just Pre Creators Who Need The Seed Of Greatness.”

* “‘Hey Are You Jaden Can I Have A Picture With You’ No Cause I’m Super Sad But We Can Sit And Talk.”

* “How Can Mirrors Be Real If Our Eyes Aren’t Real”

* “The Great Gatsby is One of the Greatest Movies Of All Time, Coachella.”

* “Anything You See In Any Magazine Ever Is Fake.

* “Every 7 Years Your Body Is Completely Replaced With Entirely New Cells So Just Because You Look The Same Doesn’t Mean You Are.”

* I Don’t Want You Guys To Think Because I Was Born In America That I Speak And Abide By English Grammar. I Speak Jaden, Indefinitely.”

* “Omg I’m Bout To Tweet The Most Jaden Smith Thing Ever Ready?”

[From Jaden Smith on Twitter]

See, he’s completely harmless and very funny. I do hope everything is okay with Jaden. Social media (and Twitter in particular) can be a haven for abuse. Death threats towards celebrities are not unheard of. Jaden seemed to enjoy Twitter a lot. He once promised to “imprint myself on everything in this world” which will be harder to accomplish offline. Perhaps Jaden’s simply taking a break, and he’ll return when he has something to promote.

Being a mega rich kid with no direction or education is not easy.

    • SnarkySnarkers says:

He just seems very dramatic and starved for attention so I’m sure this isn’t the last we’ll hear from him. Both of these kids grate on my last nerve. They both say highly ignorant and ridiculous things, even for kids. Jaden fancies himself a philosopher and its sad. The capitalizing every word, the terrible grammar, the misuse of “your” …AAAAAH! Heres a few of my favs:

There Is No Nutrients In Our Food Anymore Or In Our Soil OR IN OUR WATER. — Jaden Smith

If Everybody In The World Dropped Out Of School We Would Have A Much More Intelligent Society. — Jaden Smith

      • swack says:

Maybe this is just another way to get attention. He certainly is being talked about because he shut down his social media.

      • SnarkySnarkers says:

        @Swak: BINGO!

      • msw says:

Just want to point out attention seeking is normal behavior for teenagers, as annoying as it can be, and it is usually outgrown with maturity (it doesn’t mean all teens do it, just that it isn’t unusual when they do). I don’t know anything about him, except that he occasionally likes to cross-dress, but let’s be careful not to come down too hard on people who are still children.

Having said that, I can’t imagine these kids have ever lived any kind of normal existence, and if the rumors are true, their parents think parenting is a form of oppression. To each their own, I guess, but kids need boundaries and it is so much harder for them if they have to figure them all out on their own. That goes for kids like the Smiths as much as it goes for the inner-city kid with a rap sheet.

      • AlmondJoy says:

Snarky: and with all that you said, he’s still a KID. Most 16 year olds are annoying. They say ridiculous things, they do things for attention. Jaden isn’t offensive, nor has he done anything to hurt anybody.

      • Cindy says:

It is his parents fault if they didn’t get him a proper education, he is just a sixteen year old kid.

    • Cindy says:

      @almondjoy
Agree completly. He’s not doing anyone any harm, just being a goofy kid. Weren’t we all at some point?

      • AlmondJoy says:

Cindy, exactly! He’s a kid having fun on Twitter. Like almost every other kid his age. He’s harmless.

  2. MelissaManifesto says:

i hope he’s okay and not suffering from some terrible depression or death threats. On a lighter note, the Smith offsprings have always appeared a little spacey to me, a little out of touch with reality.

    • Mispronounced Name Dropper says:

That’s because they’ve never lived in it.

      • snowflake says:

right, must be nice to be rich and not have to live in reality. if he were poor, he’d be baker acted or at the least, sent to counseling. since he’s rich, he’s “eccentric” and “free spirited”

  3. Lucy2 says:

I’d imagine there were people who said terrible things to him all the time, maybe he just had enough.
Hopefully he’s redirecting some of that energy to an education.

  4. NewWester says:

There have been louder rumours of trouble in the marriage of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. Maybe Jaden has decided to take a break from social media because of the coming media onslaught ? People can be very nasty in their comments. Jaden may be the child of famous and wealthy parents, but he is still a child. Seeing your parents separating is still very painful and he may want some privacy
Also in the photo where Jaden is wearing the dress, is the guy standing next to him wearing a shirt as shorts?

    • bella says:

yes, i think this may be it, too.
there’s a post on blindgossip.com that sounds like will & jada.
some of the info is serious – if it’s about them.
it’s never easy on the kids when a marriage ends…
imagine what it must be like when your parents are celebrities and all of your lives are under a microscope.
      hope the kid is ok…

  5. Josephine says:

Very few kids that age particularly like themselves, and I have to think it’s harder for a kid who doesn’t have to accomplish anything or work at anything – that must be really hard on the fragile self-esteem of a teenager. Though he talks a big game, I’ve often wondered whether he is just a sad kid. I can see his hands-off parents being totally unaware of how vulnerable teens can be. But it’s equally likely that it’s a way to get attention, or that he changed his mind about social media and will change it again in a couple days.

  6. JENNA says:

I hope he will use his free time to read more books.

  7. TheOriginalTiffany says:

    Two points for Griffindor!

  8. Insomniac says:

Five points to Gryffindor for that scarf!

He was growing on me too, but it’s probably for the best for him to detach from social media.

  9. GlimmerBunny says:

I love his tweets! I legit laughed out loud at “I Don’t Want You Guys To Think Because I Was Born In America That I Speak And Abide By English Grammar. I Speak Jaden, Indefinitely.”

    • bns says:

My favorites are “There Is No Dress” (talking about the blue/black white/gold dress) and “A Little Girl Just Asked Me If I Was Willow Smith. I Humbly Said Yes And Took A Selfie.”

  10. Lilacflowers says:

Jaden needs to go to school and hang out with people his own age.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Agree. He’s a beautiful child, and seems intelligent. I think it’s a disgrace that his formal education has stopped already.

    • Kitten says:

I think that would help him greatly. From his tweets, he seems lonely and a bit isolated.

      • Lilacflowers says:

And any pictures I see of him are with adults. He needs to be with kids. He needs to socialize with kids. He needs to be in school with kids

  11. Greek chic says:

What about going to school and studying instead of tweeting and instagraming?

  12. jwoolman says:

Maybe he’s found something more interesting to do? It must be time-consuming keeping up with the tweets and Facebook. I’ve avoided it myself because there are only 24 hours in a day… I have to do so much online already for my work, including e-mail.

I’d like to think the parentals put some restrictions on him for his mental/emotional health’s sake, but I don’t know if they are that aware. But I don’t think it’s healthy for a kid to be so public, better to just have passworded stuff that is just accessible to vetted realspace friends and family. It’s creepy that full grown adults he doesn’t know are listening in, no matter how non-pervy they may be. Not good for his development to get so much attention, even when positive. That’s a major problem with kid actors, for instance, gives them such a distorted view of themselves and their position in the universe. Even fully formed adults have trouble keeping properly grounded under such conditions.

  13. bns says:

    Nooooooo : (

  14. AlmondJoy says:

I really like both Willow and Jaden. They seem very sweet but also sad. I don’t agree with Will and Jada’s parenting style, but I do believe they are a close knit family and they have genuine love for each other. The video of Jada rocking out with Jaden and Willow last week at Broccoli Fest was awesome! I also loved seeing how proud Willow was of her mom during Jada’s acceptance speech at the Black Girls Rock awards show. I hope Jaden is ok and he uses this opportunity to continue learning and growing.

    • Wren33 says:

He in particular always seems a bit vulnerable. The combo of teenage angst and being under a microscope because of your parents seems like a bad one. While the hands-off (Scientology?) parenting can foster very creative souls I imagine it can lead to feeling a bit lost too.

      • AlmondJoy says:

Wren, you hit the nail on the head and used the perfect words to describe them. Lost and vulnerable. I definitely agree that the teachings of Scientology coupled with things that happen during the tough teenage years dont make it any easier for him.

    • sills says:

Agree on all this. He’s one of the more eccentric celebrity kids out there, but he seems to have a good heart, a thoughtful personality, and a real sense of humor. He just needs a focused way to channel his energy. Lack of boundaries is not the best parenting style IMO.

  15. Lucy says:

    I hope he’s okay…

  16. Ana says:

Well there’s some truth to the magazine one though! lol

But is the cells and seven years one true? I can’t believe I just asked this.

Poor guy, maybe he received a lot of hate and decided to take a break? People can be really mean to others when they are protected by anonimity.

    • Nayru says:

It can’t be true because neurons do not generally get replaced.

      • Ana says:

        Hmm I see. Thanks. 🙂
Shame though. It would be amazing if our bodies could do that.
What did I expect is Jaden Smith. lol Not that I judge too hard. God knows that when I was his age I believed equally silly stuff and he has also that whole Scientology baggage on top of that.

  17. Amy says:

A question his parents should be asking but are they listening?

    I dunno…something feels off/foreboding about it.

Like others have mentioned he has no job or anything to focus his attention on including school. The majority of his other friends are all over social media and in his own bizarre way he’s cultivated an identity as the trippy hippie kid.

For him to suddenly delete and shut it all down reminds me of Rob Kardashian. Hopefully the kid is okay but honestly…I wouldn’t be surprised if he isn’t.

  18. QQ says:

I’m going to Open Up the Floor For : Reasons Jaden Got Off the nets

” He Is Busy Imprinting the World”

    “Currently Swerving to Hard”

“Studying the Real Fault in Our Stars”

  19. Amy says:

I’ll admit I’m not really a fan of his…persona? But I enjoy his tweets. The, “I turned 15 a long time ago” is so ridiculous it’s magical.

If he was a young aspiring comic they’d be perfect because they’re that wonderful amount of maybe true, utter nonsense, and spacy cluelessness in the vein of Mitch Hedberg.

But I wonder if it became a case of, “They’re laughing at me, not with me.” Because for him this seemed like his little philosophical offerings to the world that he was serious about and nearly everyone treated it as a sideshow.

  20. Jay (the Canadian one) says:

I’m just grateful you chose pictures where his eyebrows are in their relaxed and rightful position.

  21. Mylene - Montreal says:

The haters quote is actually from the danish writer Kierkegaard ….

  22. Adrien says:

    His sister has modeling potench.

  23. Nhi says:

    Maybe he’s grounded ;)?

  24. Magpie says:

I like him because he actually seems curious and interested in the world and like he wants to be a kind and humble person. Not just interested in navel gazing like the kk clan. Hopefully he’ll use his money to travel and get an education, two things he would really benefit from.

  25. Itsa Reallyme says:

He’s probably not on social media because Scientology isn’t allowing it’s members to be on the computer now. They might learn about the farce.
