Sofia Vergara: Nick Loeb is taking advantage of my career to promote himself

FFN_Vergara_Mang_VH_BJJ_050615_51732756

I have a renewed respect for Sofia Vergara with the way she’s handling the Nick Loeb situation. Loeb is SO THIRSTY. Loeb is currently suing Sofia, his ex-fiancée, for “custody” of the embryos they created while they were together. Loeb has also been waging an uncomfortably stalkerish campaign against Sofia in the press, basically accusing her of being an awful person because she didn’t and doesn’t want to have babies with him and he’s come thisclose to accusing her of child abandonment because she simply wants to their mutually-agreed-upon contract to be honored.

Earlier this week, Sofia appeared on Howard Stern’s show and of course Stern asked her about the situation. I’m paraphrasing, but Sofia was basically like “We have a valid contract and why doesn’t he just make a baby with someone else?” Then today, Sofia appeared on a pre-taped Good Morning America interview. And she goes even harder.

Sofia Vergara and Nick Loeb squared off on the morning talk shows Thursday in their battle over their frozen embryos – with the Modern Family actress labeling her ex-fiancé an opportunist and Loeb claiming he just wants protect two lives that “have already been created.”

Vergara, 42, told Good Morning America that the embryos are a non-story, legally speaking, and she criticized Loeb, 39 – and the press – for bringing a private matter into the public eye.

“I’ve been working very hard for 20 years to get to this point where I am,” she said. “I promote all my movies, all my work, but I don’t like promoting my private life. And I don’t want to allow this person to take more advantage of my career and try to promote himself and get press for this.”

She seemed dumbfounded about why Loeb is getting any press – much less a New York Times op-ed – about the matter. The two signed an agreement, after all, that both must consent in order to bring to term the embryos they created together when they were a couple in 2013.

“Why is the press allowing somebody to invent things and create press for himself?” she asked. “He’s not an actor. He’s not a celebrity. It’s like, why?” She added: “This shouldn’t be out there for people to give their opinion when there’s nothing to talk about. There’s papers signed … I don’t understand why the media is allowing a person to just try to put me down, and make it like something is happening when nothing is happening.”

On Today, meanwhile, Loeb said he never believed Vergara “was going to change her mind” about the embryos, and that he’d be happy to raise the kids as a single father.

“It has nothing to do with whether it’s her baby or a baby,” he said. “Lives were already created … I wouldn’t toss them aside.”

He’s not asking Vergara to take financial responsibility for the children, he added. “I’ve offered to her to waive all financial responsibilities,” he said. “I want these children to have the best lives possible … There’s nothing more that I want to do than bring these children to life.”

In closing, both of them claimed they’re not overly bitter about what’s happening.

“I think Sofia is a wonderful, wonderful woman,” Loeb said. “I don’t hate her at all.”

For her part, Vergara mentioned how happy she is with Joe Manganiello, and how blessed she is to have such a successful career. “I’m not sad. I’m grateful,” she said. “I have to enjoy what I’m living right now.”

[From People]

God, Loeb is such a manipulative, craven tool. And Sofia is – I feel – reading the situation correctly. There’s a valid contract. The end. Except the whole story has become a toxic blend of celebrity, politics, reproductive law, and media bias. Loeb wants it that way too, because this whole thing feels like he’s trying to “punish” Sofia for breaking up with him. It’s gross. And I’m glad she’s standing up for herself.

They both need to shut up.

    • Tiffany :) says:

She’s being publicly attacked, I don’t think there is any reason she should shut up.

      • Scarlet Vixen says:

I agree @Tiffany. Why should she shut up? I think she’s addressing it appropriately & when necessary. LOEB needs to shut up, tho.

      • Redheadwriter says:

While I applaud her standing up for herself (and rightfully so), I just can’t with her.

      • paranormalgirl says:

I am not a fan by any stretch of the imagination of Sofia Vergara, but why on earth should she “shut up?” She is getting attacked and she is simply stating that there is a contract and that’s that. She is taking the high road. Like her or not, she is in the right here.

    • Icy blue says:

He needs to shut up. Sofia, need to speak out about this stalker ish manipulative tool and defend herself. The end.

    • Amy says:

Yeah…nothing says ‘Hope this douche stops abusing and using you!’ like “Shut up.”

      Smh.

      • Dorotea says:

What I don’t understand is why the New York Times allowed him to write the article. Is it because she is a hispanic female inmigrant and he is a white conservative from a prestigious family? Family connections? This cokehead now is very pro life and conservative. What a joke. Sofía is in her right to defend herself, I agree 100 percent with her decisions.

      • Mari says:

In my opinion the Times allowed him to write the article because it’s now fashionable for news outlets to create and become the news rather than limiting themselves to reporting it. Like Fox News and Brian Williams. Sad that the NY Times thinks it has to sink to that level.

    • Veronica says:

She was silent on the matter until he released an abusive op-ed piece in one of the most widely read newspapers in the US essentially accusing her of being a heartless baby killer. Only a fool would “shut up,” especially a celebrity made famous by a family-based show.

  2. Bridget says:

    Gee, you think?

  3. aims says:

Absolutely right. He’s trying to grab at straws and it’s sick. She’s stood by her word, she hasn’t destroyed the embryos. It should be end of story. He’s a total nut job.

  4. Eleonor says:

Loeb is that kind of ex: the one who cannot move on and try to destroy your life, only because he can. Kudos to her for standind up for herself.

  5. Bad genes says:

He has a family history of mental illness–why is he so anxious to pass those bad genes on?
    Clearly a reptilian opportunist.

    • DEB says:

      He’s also an abusive bastard.

    • Velvet says:

I brayed like a frikkin donkey at your comment. This is just his sick way of trying to have forever ties to Sophia. On another note, I wish Sophia would freshen up her look. She needs a new haircut. A new look. I think she’s beautiful, new look. That is all.

  6. ToodySezHey says:

If I were her I’d counter sue him for trying to violate a legally binding contract and sue for sole possession of the embryos.

  7. anniefannie says:

I really don’t get his end game. While its obvious he can’t let go of Vegara this seems like an extremely negative douchy way of keeping her in his life. I feel certain his attorneys have advised him this is a no win and if he was hoping to garner sympathy certainly all the bad press he’s getting should tell him this adventure has back-fired …why continue? I’m baffled …

    • Scarlet Vixen says:

Didn’t he have an eye on politics? Maybe this is some crazy ploy to garner some conservative, uber pro-life sympathy as a platform to jump-start his political career.

  8. savu says:

I know California law requires the contract discuss what happens if the couple breaks up, and I think that’s what he’s going off of because their contract didn’t include that. Even then, that sounds like it may fall on the facility, not the two of them. I HIGHLY doubt a judge would ever rule “well these kids gotta be born to at least one parent who’s not interested in having them, because a clause was left out of the contract.” I seriously think the “nothing can happen unless we agree on it” clause will be upheld. Any good lawyer for Sofia will argue that IS their breakup clause.

    • LNG says:

The contract (apparently) says that both have to agree to use the embryos. So you’re right, It doesn’t matter whether they are together or apart – they still both have to agree. If the wording is what has been reported in the media, then it is inclusive of a breakup, even if it doesn’t specifically outline what happens after a breakup.

    • Chichi says:

Exactly. The POINT of a consent clause is to address situations where parties disagree, for instance in the event of a break up. His lawyers will make a fortune, he’ll leave empty handed and sadly he will have harassed Sofia which is his end game I guess.

    • doofus says:

and I would think that, because there’s no specific language about a difference in terms or right to nullify the contract if the couple breaks up, that the written terms of the contract apply NO MATTER WHAT…relationship or break-up.

  9. Jess says:

There’s no way in hell he truly wants to have those children for any reason other than to manipulate her. I can see it, once the babies are born it would be all about how she didn’t want them or want to pay for them and how she’s a terrible mother for abandoning them. He’s just sick in the head and it’s getting creepy that he won’t let her go.

  10. LNG says:

I’d just like to point out as well, that you cannot contract out of child support. It’s not the parent’s right, it’s the child’s right. He can say it’s not about money all he wants, but the law wouldn’t allow him to contract away the child’s right. He, or the child, could come after her for money at any time, so let’s just take that argument off the table.

He signed a contract (twice!), the contract should be upheld. If Sophia had have known that he would try to repudiate the contract in the future my guess is that she never would have agreed to have the embryos created. My bet is that he is positioning himself for another run for office and is trying to get publicity, along with trying to control Sophia.

    • mia girl says:

I mentioned this on yesterday’s thread – but in this particular case, the “I will raise them on my own – she will have no financial responsibilities” is a straw-man argument.
It is total BS. Nothing more than manipulative, disingenuous lip-service.

Because as you point out, the child has the financial right to be supported…and in particular this case because she is not a traditional egg donor. The courts/him/child can and will come after her for money.

And aside from that, Vergara would not be able (either emotionally, career-wise or both) to reject any child that may be born from those embryos. HE KNOWS THIS.

      He is a no-class man and a first-class as*hole.

      • Chichi says:

Precisely Mia Girl. Even if Sofia was prepared to switch contract terms and become an egg donor theres no conceivable way she could do so now after how publicly he has conducted his case. If he really wanted those embryos he would have kept it anonymous and perhaps even offered to sign NDAs.

  11. lucy2 says:

    No means no, Nick.
They signed a contract, TWICE, and she does not consent. End of story, move on. If he’s so hot to protect children and give them a wonderful life, become a foster parent to an existing kid really in need.

  12. L&Mmommy says:

I just saw this guy in CNN arguing his point, he makes no sense, it’s absurd. He is punishing her for not being with him. He’s trying to destroy her with the “baby killer” narrative in press. What a creepy guy.

  13. eknasok says:

Fight for custody of frozen embryos, I have no words.

  14. Tiffany says:

I think that is he more upset that she stood her ground and that the breakup stuck. He really thought that she was going to come back like before and not only did she not, she went on with life and into a new relationship. Sofia has mentioned in interviews before that she liked a little drama in her relationships but I think the final breakup showed that she is done with it. I have always liked her and wish nothing but the best. I am glad that she is speaking out and sticking to bullet points while that d-bag is looking more and more insane as he speaks on the matter.

  15. Amy says:

Ugh, I feel so bad for her.

Not only is he abusing her for moving on and being happy the media keeps giving him a platform! So annoying!

Though I’m sure he’s buying his way onto all these things. Stay strong Sofia and don’t let him bully you into anything.

  16. Talie says:

I love that he said Joe and Sophia could raise the kids and he would be involved. Girl, bye! You are a desperate fool…

  17. mindydopple says:

I am so glad she has that beefcake Joe, just in case he tries to get really crazy after this move goes no where. It must burn that right after they break up, she’s with someone much hotter, and buffer.

    • doofus says:

yeah, I’m not usually into him that much but that pic of them up there?…

ROWRF…I’d love to have a hunka burnin’ love like that to cuddle with. and protect me from a crazy ex!

  18. Lucy says:

Good Lord, he’s sick. And for the person who made the very first comment, no. He’s the only one who needs to shut up and go away.

  19. Sandra says:

Does anyone know if he is getting any political traction with this, or a big fan base of people supporting him?

  20. BrandyAlexander says:

I am on her side, but her comment how “why should the press listen to him when he’s not an actor or a celebrity” left a bad taste in my mouth. If she would have omitted that one statement, her responses would be perfect”.

  21. Iheartgossip says:

She is equally to blame. They shouldn’t have frozen anything, not even water.

  22. LANA says:

This is what happens when you move too fast with someone. This guy is using her. I’m sure had it been any other Jane Doe he would give zero fu*** about those babies in that frozen petri dish.
