Taylor Swift debuts ‘Bad Blood’ music video: embarrassing, cool or funny?

wenn22499023

Do you know how much Taylor Swift hates Katy Perry? SO MUCH, you guys. You don’t even know. Except now you do, because Taylor Swift is a middle school Mean Girl with an unlimited budget. At last night Billboard Music Awards, Taylor made sure that she ran the conversation. She won a bunch of awards, she was there with her Girl Posse and she debuted her new music video for “Bad Blood,” the song she wrote about her #1 Enemy, Katy Perry. Tay-Tay made sure all of her rigorously collected friends made appearances in the music video, even Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick should be ashamed of himself for getting involved with this mess too. In the past, I’ve thought Swifty and Kendrick’s unlikely friendship was charming, but this… no, man. This is just a big nope. Here’s the video:

Such terrible acting. God, am I the only one embarrassed for everyone involved here? And there are so many – I didn’t even catch half of them! Kendrick, Mariska Hargitay, Selena Gomez, Cara Delevingne, Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss and so many more.

As for last night’s fashion… Swifty wore a white Balmain jumpsuit which… I give her credit for wearing pants and not a sparkly party dress. Her implants look really obvious in this Balmain, but that’s no big deal. Mostly I’m worried about her hair because that looks like a really cheap wig. Like, a Travolta-level wig. Oh, and Calvin Harris was there. Calvin and Swifty apparently hugged at one point. That’s still happening, which makes me happy.

Other fashion… Lily Aldridge wore Balmain (it’s meh) and Hailee Steinfeld wore Givenchy. I love Hailee but this isn’t the best look for her.

I actually really enjoyed the video!
It was campy and fun and totally bonkers.

    • Vickie says:

I liked it as well. And, its a silly music video, not a serious film.

    • Wannabeparisian says:

I like it too! Yes Taylor is cray cray but her videos are FUN! I’ll take that any day over watching naked women grinding on my screen which is par for the course

Kendrick so talented but such a sellout

    • Samtha says:

I think it’s a lot of fun, too. It’s not meant to be serious or high art!

    • Franca says:

I like it too, it was over the top, but cute. Is Selena Katy Perry?

    • mytbean says:

As a not so closeted sci-fi geek I really liked the video. The song is meh… I’m not humming it after it’s over so…

    • MrsB says:

Add me to the list of people who liked the video. It was fun!

    • Thinker says:

Well, I don’t think it’s embarrassing. She’s a pop star! She looks great, and all her friends seem in on the joke and shown in a good light.

Bottom line: Taylor is an entertainer, and this is an entertaining video.

      • bravocueen says:

I really liked it too. She seems to be willing to step out of her comfort zone all the time. And the song was pretty catchy (I typically don’t listen to much pop).

    • Dubois says:

I liked it too. Tay Tay kicked butt. Nothing to be embarrassed about except maybe the song itself.

    • V. says:

BESIDES Lena “Gross Out” Dunham! (Seriously Swifty do you really need this one in your corner?)

I loved the video! Girl Power!

    • Abby says:

I did too. I think it was silly on purpose. It was fun. Regardless of mean girl-ing origins, Bad Blood is one of my favorite songs on the album.

    • Geekychick says:

I LOVE it! I can’t stop watching it! It’s campy and fun, and I wish videos were more like this these days! It got me stoked for all-female action flick! And I love all the references to cool action heroines (Leloo, that Japanese killer from Kill Bill, Sin City references). IDK, I don’t care who this song is about, I think it’s catchy as hell and I love the fact that it’s essentially a friendship breakup song or song about former frenemies made open “enemies”. I think we all have those in our life, in this form or the other ( at least I do; I have this one colegue who tries to stab me in the back every chance she gets, while being passive agressive to me and charming to everyone else), so I welcome a catchy song that I can relate to. No bi**hes trying to gold-dig me, no love of my life that I’m pinning for, no twerk that ass, mdma for life and so on. I like those from time to time, don’t get me wrong, but I enjoy belting this one, especially with the video!

      • claire says:

Ha! Me too! It’s really catchy song and the video is fun! I’d totally ask my bad-ass girlfriends to play bad-ass fighters if I was making a video like this. Love it.

    • JaneM says:

I liked it too. People need to lighten up. It just looks like her and her friends are having fun dressing up and role playing. And the song is just fun. Did I miss the part where she says it’s about Katy Perry?

    • Anna says:

I loved the music video too! Most people loved it as well so I’m surprised Kaiser hated it so much.
I thought Lorde would’ve been in it tho

  2. JENNA says:

Embarrassing mv. The purpose was just to namedrop all her “friends”. Katy’s friendships seem more genuine.

    • QQ says:

I know it was really cringe worthy… Especially for Kendrick to be honest cause Taylor is sorta a collection cartoon of a teen girl, and it’s clear the hook line and sinker for all these cameos was ” Hey, you guys wanna look sexy/cool with me and get paid for it??” but Kendrick is an actual freaking talented dude

Also I guess she and Chrissy teigen where going to the same Gumby Does The 70s Disco themed party

      • Amy says:

I was and still am confused about Kendrick’s inclusion.

This is SO much effort for such a bad song, like not even Lady Gaga would have tried to mini-movie remix this thing to save it. Then you have Kendrick basically becoming the lead and his rapping was…bad in the first half, better towards the end.

I know it’s a new day but I’m gonna need people to be hitting ‘Spam’ when they get remix requests from some of these pop stars. Next you’ll have The Game in a video with Bieber.

      • QQ says:

Oh AMY Back It Up Cause YES!!! I thought i was crazy… That song is SHIT! completely bad, and I say this as someone that both CAN’T with this girl and have been begrudgingly surprised by what I’ve heard on the Radio from this last Cd of hers cause everything seemed like very catchy good Pop prior to this

YES To Spam Folder on Collabs.. this is getting excessively bad

Also Candidate for Spam Folder?? Whomever is doing this chick’s hair .. My GOD why does it look this BAD??!!

      • Amy says:

Because T Swizzle’s hair is like Swoop-Dog’s personality.

She wants to tryyyy at being sexy and grown up but will regress in a hot minute to meet you at Claire’s after school to buy bracelets and bitch about the mean girls who smoke in the girl’s bathroom (Katy and Riri).

Just like Sweezy herself and this video, smokey-eye by the metric ton can’t save basic bitches from being boring.

      • Abbott says:

The color, the cut… she never changes it up.

      • ISO says:

        Gumby does the 70s jumpsuit.

Laughed out my nose at the community lunch table..also can’t unhear
        “baby’s got ba ad wig”…

      • Sunny says:

Why Kendrick Why? Oh, I know- for exposure. But I cringed when I saw him, and cringed again when I heard the verse he dropped. He is one of my favourite rappers and I think he is brilliant but this was just awful and embarrassing.

I mean, he signed on to a vanity project of Tay Tay’s, the music artist equivalent of writing derogatory things about your enemy on a bathroom stall. Just yuck for everyone involved.

I like Taylor’s music- it is catchy and I love that she is good to her fans. But I have trouble respecting her because she seems like such a child. Clooney once said, that you stay frozen at the age you reach fame- a sort of arrested development. Taylor always seems to me like she is 17 years old. This whole thing seemed so high school

    • Artemis says:

Yep, I don’t like Katy but when you have Rihanna on your side, you pretty much lose when you trot out so many B-list models. Only Cara matters out of the whole bunch and she’s still not a fashionista and famous as Rihanna. Taylor will never get Rihanna thus Taylor loses.

      • LolCats says:

        Lol nobody cares about Rihanna!

      • Aurora says:

Dont drag Rihanna into these prom queen dramas. RihRih probably laughing her ass off at both Katy and Taylor. And probably openly bigging up Taylor for the Louis XIII level of balling shes about to embark with the large piles of cash she will make from exploiting this.

      • mytbean says:

B-List??? Cindy Crawford was in there. I mean yeah, she’s old-school but she’s Cindy effing Crawford. It’s like saying Naomi Campbell is B-List.

I know everyone is saying this is just a name-drop extravaganza – and it is. But it’s also probably that these people like her music, her game and are in the video to show support for that.

Even though she’s definitely her own flavor of artist and she “seems” emotionally stunted, She also seems the most talented and business savvy. So I still have to give it up for Swift in that she’s writing her own lyrics and music all this time and making a career of it.

      • Bridget says:

I thought Katy and Rihanna’s friendship flamed out a while ago?

      • Debbie says:

No gigi is the biggest model out I mean none are riri* but Gigi is the it model of the moment

I thought the video was fine she seemed to be having fun and so did the others in it so why not

      • Magpie says:

Please, katy all tried to front like they were bff and riri put an end to that by dissing katy’s music in an interview. Riri is tight with cara now.

    • Cee says:

I actually loved the song off of the record (Lamar isn’t on it) and it’s much better than this version TBH.

The video seemed cramped with famous people and their aliases and there was barely any development. Who are they! What do they do? Why is Taylor walking thru all these people? Is she now a robot like Vikander in Ex Machina?
Am I the only one who couldn’t tell apart both set of girls about to have a “fight off” at the end?
I usually like Taylor’s videos even if her acting sucks, but this one wasn’t even funny or cute, just a very try hard snooze fest.

      • Alex says:

Supposedly there is a longer cut of the video that is going to be posted a la MJ videos. Which I hope is true because I thought the video was fun but like you said no development.
As for Kendrick…I liked the remix actually. But for Kendrick’s rep maybe he should’ve stayed away from this. But hey I can’t hate Taylor for using her arsenal for this video. I mean she pulled her close friends and some cool people for the video.

And I don’t think Rih cares about this feud. She cooled on KP when she kept dating John Mayer

      • Samtha says:

My take: she was betrayed and then basically went through a training montage as she gathered her allies and prepared for her revenge. When she was ready to meet her nemesis, the older bad asses (Ellen Pompeo, Mariska, Cindy Crawford) gave their nods of approval and she went out to fight.

I hope they do a longer version, because the short version was a lot of fun.

  3. aims says:

I think Taylor is so consumed by celebrities and having this collection of famous friends that it’s ridiculous. I think the video is a major name drop. I’m not a fan of Taylor( surprise. ) but this video makes her super unrelatable.

    • kai says:

I totally agree. And next time she says it’s all about the music, she’s officially full of sh-t.

  4. Abbott says:

So there’s a special place in hell for women who don’t support women… unless we are talking about Katy Perry? Am I getting this right?

    • aims says:

Exactly. If you’re not going to be apart of my clique then I’m going to go after you.

    • LB says:

She isn’t even subtle about any of this (the friend collecting, the “hints” in her music against others, etc) and then she acts like a victim when people call her out on publicity-grabbing behavior. She can seriously deliver a pop song but I’m over her as a celebrity. Too hypocritical to notice how she victimizes others in the name of “emotional honesty” in her “music”.

    • Amy says:

I’m sincerely waiting for her next whining interview about that so that this video can be thrown in her face. She boo-hooed over a joke and then made a mini Sy-Fy movie about her own a enemy? PSH.

    • mia girl says:

Yes there is a special place Abbott and Taylor’s gonna sing about it because “band-aids don’t fix bullet holes” or something like that.

    • Kiddo says:

The video is blocked, so I couldn’t see it. (thanking the universe for small favors). I just wanted to throw in my thoughts, and ask what the Puritans think about Swift and her low-cut outfit?
If Miley had that on, some people would be losing their sh_t already.

      • Abbott says:

She looks like someone’s Cool Mom?

      • QQ says:

Kiddo I think That’s be too classy and covered up for Miley, Also I think that what works on Taylor’s favor is that she kinda has gradually stopped princessing about so people have had an adjustment period to her cleavage?? whereas Miley just went from Corny To “WTF IS THIS TRASH LOT LIZARD PROSTITUTE TEAS this girl is seving???”

      • kai says:

If Miley had that on, we’d be losing our shit, because she never wears this much clothes! I agree it’s tacky, though. Especially with the bolt-ons. Very plastic fantastic.

      • We Are All Made of Stars says:

Right, and she’s panty flashing and wearing an exposed garter in the video, but you know, her PR has instructed us to believe that since she is a White Woman From Money who pretends to be prim, that nothing she could ever do could ever, ever, trashify that image. Like, ever.

  5. Goats on the Roof says:

Way too much buildup for nothing. It was mostly an excuse for Taylor to wear any number of form-fitting outfits and wigs and show off her famous friends. It was so saturated with people that some were only onscreen for a couple seconds.

Her hair is truly awful. The best it’s looked for her is probably when it was long and straight. The bangs…just, no. Also, I think her implants were pretty obvious when lying down in the video, but if she likes them, more power to her.

    • Abbott says:

Yeah, I missed a lot of the celebs who were supposed to be in it.

      • Jesmari says:

Yeah I so I do the point of having so many celebrities if you only show them for a couple of seconds. The ones I noticed were

        Jessica Alba
        Cindy Crawford
        Selena Gomez
        Mariska SVU
        Meredith Grey
        Cara big eyebrows

        Who else is in it?

    • Artemis says:

Yep, she should’ve stuck with the posters to introduce the characters because in the video, the names were distracting. If the video was at least 6 minutes long with more fight scenes instead of blink-and-you-miss-it cameos, it would’ve been MUCH better.
I do like the concept and the promo was while exhausting, still did the trick. But the end product? Poorly executed. What’s the point of having all these ‘famous’ people when you don’t use them?

This reminded me a lot of Britney Spears’ Toxic but her video has a better plot and the music fits.

At the end of the day, Bad Blood is a bad song with a poor music video that shows just how petty Swift is.

    • mia girl says:

Yeah, it’s like the Tidal of music videos.

      • Zombie Shortcake says:

It was like watching the opening credits to a movie-Please don’t tell me we are going to be getting more out of this.

  6. Jess says:

I’m not a fan of Miss Swift but I did not think that the video was against Perry tbh. I found the video to be all over the place but it was entertaining.

And her PDA with Harris was adorable. Cute couple

    • JENNA says:

Selena plays Katy in the video. I’m glad Rihanna is not part of this, I wonder if Taylor asked her to appear in the video lol.

    • Meatball says:

Except the song is about Katy.

  7. Loulou says:

God her hair is just… Beyond tragic.

    • J.Mo says:

It always has been, always is. It has puzzled me from the start.

    • Greek chic says:

The boob job is kinda tragic too. The implants look like hard balls on a bony chest.

      • We Are All Made of Stars says:

Yes, it’s no surprise that I hate her, but my God, does she look absolutely miserable and lifeless in these pictures. She is skin and bones and the only thing on her with any fat is her implants. Yeesh.

      • Felice. says:

If they’re new implants, they’ll settle eventually unless she got over the muscle implants which seem to never get completely soft on super thin women.

    • Samtha says:

Were the curls her natural hair texture? Because if so, all that straightening probably killed it.

  8. Skins says:

I like Swifty usually, but that thing was so over the top it was ridiculous. I think lot of these singers now think they are actresses too. Does Taylor want to be some action-hero chick now? Just stick with music Swifty

  9. Allie says:

It’s a weird rip off of Britney’s ‘toxic’. I’m confused because Taylor always says she doesn’t want to be seen as sexy, and then she tries way too hard to be sexy, like in this video. She’s wearing just a bra, yet she is so asexual that no one talks about it. She has crossed the overexposed line so long ago yet her fandom and PR just keeps going.

    • Tifygodess says:

I agree. As I watched it I though wow this seems awfully familiar and I said to my husband this is exactly the type of video britney would have done in the early 00s. Then I remembered toxic. Bingo.

    • Samtha says:

There were nods to a ton of sci-fi and actions movies in there–everything from Tron to the Matrix to the Fifth Element.

    • Goats on the Roof says:

Joseph Kahn did both “Toxic” and “Bad Blood,” if I’m not mistaken.

    • INeedANap says:

Hahaha I’ve been saying that too about her for a while. She positions herself as this moral goody two-shoes, but she shows up in lingerie and no one cares because she has no sex appeal. Which is fine, not everyone has to be sexy, but seriously T.Swizzle. Put it away.

Although I’ll concede she looks good as a redhead.

  10. Casi says:

I thought it was super fun, too. Middle school would have been Taylor one-upping a “Katy Perry” character.

  11. Sarah says:

Meh. Don’t know that the acting or concept is any worse than any other music vid these days. I don’t like the song, but I don’t usually like Taylor’s songs. That being said, her songs do tend to get stuck in my head at times and I”m guessing this will be no exception.

    • Lori says:

I don’t get how its about Katy Perry? Can anyone explain that to me?>

      • We Are All Made of Stars says:

She decided, in the midst of her new Girl power feminist rollout, to tease her new album as not being about boys or bashing people and stuff like that and also pointed out that it was unfeminist of people to criticize her for using and outing males as the way to maintain celebrity relevancy and sell records.

She then did an interview with Rolling Stone where she stated that Bad Blood was about a girlfight that “wasn’t even about a guy” (John Mayer) but was instead about a backstabbing female who *gasp!* tried to wreck *an entire stadium tour* by stealing three of her dancers! She as usual went on to provide enough details that everyone and their mother could figure out who she was talking about: Katy Perry. Perry then quickly tweeted, “Beware of the Regina George in sheep’s clothing.”

      • Zombie Shortcake says:

        http://gawker.com/taylor-swift-and-katy-perry-hate-each-other-a-theory-a-1632472696

This is a link to more links about the brouhaha

      • Lola says:

@WAAMOS, that woman is crazy! I’m sure it wasn’t even her idea, but the company thought it would be good to sell records. Still, a sane person wouldn’t do that.

  12. ssdddds says:

She’s gone over to the dark side. Too bad. I used to like her.

  13. OriginalTessa says:

The only thing I took away from this is that Karlie Kloss is just gorgeous. That’s pretty much it. She really stood out in a sea of beautiful girls.

  14. Amy says:

All the money wasted to film that video and not a single girl could even hold their arm right for a punch. ARGGGH. Beautiful women preening and posing while wanting you to think they’re bad-asses. Get Rhonda Rousey in there Taylor, because the lot of you are more feeble than a newly-born kitten.

Yeah this video was a build-up to nothing, unless she’s got a longer version waiting somewhere then Mariska and Ellen showed up to just walk down a hallway in some leather.

  15. Kiki says:

Katy Perry is friends with Rihanna. All your basic friends combined couldn’t even touch Queen RiRi.

    Keep hatin’ you spoiled brat.

Also, she looks like a 45 year old soccer mom at a dinner party in that pantsuit. Not a good look; rough make-up too.

  16. Beth says:

I thought it was fun. And Swifty looks good with that red hair towards the end.

  17. Annie says:

Loved it! So over-the-top and loved it.

  18. Claire says:

I don’t think there was anything wrong with the video. I do like that someone (Taylor?) thought to take stereotypical “girly” things and make them weapons.

  19. ncboudicca says:

Luckily for me, when I hear “Bad Blood” my inner-stereo plays Neil Sedaka.

  20. Paleokifaru says:

Swifty when you make a woman who dresses like a Lisa Frank wet dream seem incredibly mature you need to rethink your life actions child. Honestly, if Katy Perry isn’t over it then she certainly should continue to act as if she is. I actually knew a pair of women (I hesitate to call them that here but age) in grad school who were both five years older than me and they constantly ganged up to mean girl other women in the department. They failed most spectacularly with me because I never gave them enough to play with and it drove them nuts. I can’t say I liked Taylor much before and this just supports my habit of switching the station when her songs come on.

    • Zombie Shortcake says:

      That’s awful.

      • paleokifaru says:

It was. They pushed one woman so far that she had a nervous breakdown during the middle of a class presentation and then took a full year of mental health leave before she could return and finish her degree. And when it’s a small group it’s really hard to not let it drag you down too. I won’t say that I didn’t feel it at all, because I did, but mostly I got through it by reminding myself that everyone was too old for this and even though it’s called graduate school it’s part of your professional path and you should act like a professional and not a jr high or high school mean girl. I’m sure the celebrity world also feels small but they would do well to remember they’re supposed to be professionals.

      • Zombie Shortcake says:

        Holy sh*t.

  21. Annie... says:

Whya re we not focussing on the fact that this is the first time she confirms a relationship so openly? I think this is also the first time she attends and awards ahow with a boyfriend

    • KB says:

Probably because everyone already knows she was behind all those staged photo ops with old boyfriends, this doesn’t really seem out of place for her. If anything, this is less desperate.

  22. Hautie says:

    OMG, guys!

Goop is not going to be happy, that Taylor got to this white jumpsuit first!

You know this is how Goop see’s herself. That long lean girl… (who really isn’t)… that has a body made for one piece white jumpsuits. *ack* LOL!

Now it is not my favorite look for Taylor. But Taylor looks alright. It doesn’t pucker in unfortunate places. Which is why jumpsuits are the work of the devil. Puckering in all the wrong places.

And as much as everyone harps about her hair. Taylor is a girl with naturally curly hair.

Simply because it is cut shorter… does not mean that it suddenly behaves.

As much as her hair stylist tries. Sometimes you just got to go with what the weather is giving you. And for folks who don’t seem to grasp… that is her natural hair color. That is what a natural medium-darkish natural blonde looks like.

I don’t blame her for not coloring her hair. It is a huge pain in the ass to keep up with. Her natural color is a decent shade. So why damage the heck out of it …. bleaching it with highlights?

    • BritaBae says:

On what planet is Goop not a long, lean woman? Hate on Goop for real reasons; she has an awesome body.

    • snowflake says:

Yeah, I think her hair looks great. Love the color and style. I also like the way they did her eye makeup. she looks great.

    • bla says:

No, it’s very apparent that it is subtly colored and highlighted. Her version of dark blonde has always been a colored/dyed version.

  23. Norman Bates' Mother says:

It was beyond embarrassing. So much wasted potential. Why have so many famous ladies just to show them for 3 seconds? And even within those 3 seconds, Taylor was usually trying to awkwardly steal the show from them. Bad Blood is one of a few songs of her that I like – the lyrics are bad but the it’s very catchy and nice to dance to. But this version is just awful, the rapping ruins it. It all just seems fake – like she’s trying to be someone else but fails. She made millions and millions of dollars by being herself – why try to suddenly be a generic, oversexed pop star? I believe she’s changed and is no longer the fairy princess loving country girl but this – completely staged in a bad way.

    • Tifygodess says:

Agreed. I thought since she was pushing the fact her “friends” were Going to appear in the video there would have been a better storyline involving them. Some of the cameos were so short that if you blinked you would have missed them. It was all about name dropping – point blank. I get the feeling that she believes ( or associates ) the more celebrity friends she has the more important she is. It’s odd.

      • Norman Bates' Mother says:

I believe that as well. Before seeing it I didn’t know who Martha Hunt is, but I read that Swift put her on her list of “Women for Tomorrow” in some magazine and thinks she is the most inspiring woman she greatly admires. I assumed she is some author or human rights activist or at least another singer she would like to collaborate with. But no. Martha Hunt is an underwear model. Very beautiful one, obviously. Then I checked her other picks and it turns out, she also chose Suki Waterhouse, GiGi Hadid plus two gorgeous teenage actresses. It shows her priorities – the greatest qualities she strives for and admires are fame and physical beauty. Over 90% of her celebrity friends are models, former models or beautiful entertainers. And this video was all about showing it. Lena Dunham was there but only a part of her was shown and she was wearing a full-sized black sack. Very telling.

      • Tifygodess says:

Yes!!!! Spot on. I remember seeing that list and being like really? she clearly see models as the top of the top and by hanging with them she’s made it to the “cool kids” table!

  24. Lisa says:

I thought the video was fun and I am sure it will be a hit like all things Taylor Swift.

Her and Calvin look adorable together and she seems really happy.

  25. evie says:

First, I do actually enjoy the video. It’s campy and fun. Second, at the end of it, all that kept running through my mind was the news team fight scene in the first Anchorman movie. LOL No idea why, but there you go.

  26. Dani L. says:

I actually really liked the video! It was fun and entertaining. But I wanted more Mariska!

  27. renee28 says:

She makes me cringe. She really has the mentality of a 16 year old.

    • 2Stones says:

Yes +1,000. If she actually was 18 or under then yes this might be a silly fun video. But she is a grown a$$ women stuck w the maturity of a teenager.

  28. Mzizkrizten says:

Love the song and the video.
And honestly isn’t it all just speculation that the song is about Katy? Has Swift ever said on the record that it is? Could be about anyone who’s ever done her wrong, all rolled into one. And so what if it is? I prefer songs that come from a legit place in the artist’s experiences, as opposed to a song written by multiple people and selected out of a book.

  29. cannibell says:

The production was amazing – total eye candy. The song, not so much. Kind of Tay-steless….

  30. Meatball says:

Things like this is what convinces me that Taylor is just as much of an asshole as the people she writes songs about. She is constantly coming across petty and it is getting tiresome. She needs to take a break and come back with the better schtick, this one is played out.

  31. Gen says:

I realize I’m a bit behind, but are we sure this is about Katie Perry? Seems more like a love gone wrong than a friendship?

    • Goats on the Roof says:

Taylor is on record saying the song is about a female colleague who tried to “steal” backup dancers away from her. It came out that the dancers originally worked for Katy, danced for Taylor while Katy was on hiatus, and went back to Katy once she started up again. Taylor also said that there could be a personal aspect to their mutual dislike, and they’ve both dated John Mayer.

      • Nopity Nope says:

I think that’s what really gets me about this whole “feud” – Taylor tries to make it seem like it’s really about a professional ‘diss’ on Katy’s part but what I really think pissed her off is the JM angle. And he is NOT worth all that energy. Let it gooooo…

      • Jessica says:

There was a weird stretch a few years ago (before the friend collecting) where Taylor only seemed to hang out with the dancers she employed. Basically buying friends. My guess is she convinced herself they were real friends, and them leaving to work with Katy made her lose her mind a little.

  32. Wooley says:

Is this really all because of John Mayer?

    • Cinderella says:

That’s what I was wondering. Is he really enough to launch an army of supermodels?

    • Lola says:

As if the guy’s ego needed more attention.

    • m says:

I doubt it. If you listen to her sing about him, it sounds like he dumped her because she wouldn’t sleep with him, not because of another woman.

  33. InvaderTak says:

So much try hard. And she’s just a straight up hypocrite now. I don’t want to be seen as sexy, then does this. Don’t even come close to criticizing me or you’ll go to hell, devotes whole over wrought music video to a revenge anthem against another woman. And knowing the back story makes it even more lame. No. Just no. It was so cringe worthy. And seriously, why even bother with putting all these people in it? They were on screen literally for seconds. It’s really lame that there are that many people and that much effort put into it and they made a less than 4 minute video. She’s all about the status isn’t she? I wish Kendrick wasn’t in this mess.

And canceling the live stream of her rock in Rio gig hours before it was going to air was seriously bad form. If she didn’t want to live stream it that’s fine, it’s her show and her music. But canceling like that was as$holeish.

    • Miss M says:

I think the way she banned the live streaming was awful and her fans are rightfully upset about it.

I am OK with video, but to spend so much time on a feud over John Mayer is just ridiculous.

ps: Like others said, the video reminds a lot of Britney Spears videos.

  34. Nessa says:

I just can’t find Taylor Swift sexy. For such a beautiful girl, she just has no sex appeal to me. She has great street style, and I always think she looks super cute on her daily pap walks. But trying to be sexy… In an outfit like this… Just no.

  35. Tough Cookie says:

The Crimson Curse!!! OMG that one will keep me laughing all day…

  36. Jayna says:

I don’t get why people are so critical. It’s a pop video. Remember when you were young and into music videos? Some are sounding like my mother did about the music videos I loved when I was a teenager. LOL

It’s supposed to be campy. I agree, the production is amazing. No money skimped on that. I love Kendrick, so if he wanted to be in it, I won’t judge. I will have to watch it another time. I didn’t realize it was a dig at Katy. The problem is this just isn’t a great song compared to so many better ones off of the album.

This still can’t touch Madonna’s James Bond Die Another Day gritty music video about women fighting. I thought it was one of Madge’s best videos and clever by the end.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfvD_brrrTc

    • Tifygodess says:

Ageist much? There are plenty “old folks” that like music videos just as there are plenty of “young people” that don’t.

  37. Ceree says:

My sister and I couldn’t stop laughing everytime we would see the stuntman and then the shot would be Taylor putting on lipstick, it was obviously not her, it was laughable. Only part I liked was Cara’s, I love her death stare.

    Kendrick..wth..

  38. Dash says:

Her friend collecting is out of control. Pretty random group at the BBMAs with her, none of the core squad members.

  39. Dena says:

    *terrible video*

Off-topic, slightly, but did anyone see Pitch Perfect 2 this weekend? The picture of Hailee Steinfield (sp?) reminded me – they auto-tuned the heck out of her, I couldn’t even tell if she was a good singer. very distracting 🙁

  40. Tracy says:

Poor Taylor. She’s talented, a respectful, capable business woman at such a young age, and I usually love her red carpet looks, if not her casual style. And while I’d rather she never wear bright red lipstick ever again, I don’t think she’s an unattractive girl. But….this has to be the least sexy woman alive. Taylor in a black garter belt is just cringeworthy. Taylor reclining in a provocative pose is giggle inducing. Taylor trying to strut like a runway model is just….no. Taylor trying to throw a smoldering look is just painful. I don’t know what it is…too big bird, limbs too much like pick up stix, flat ass, high waist…I don’t know, but she’s going to have to go through this life looking pulled together and well dressed, but never sexy.

And if the video was aimed at Katy Perry then I’m sad she’s that immature. Taylor, just focus on the music and your performances, not trying to damage other women in the industry. Or men, for that matter. Grow up.

    • Dr.Funkenstein says:

I feel your pain. All I see is a baby giraffe. Sexy? Nah, not in this reality.

    • Miss M says:

      I completely agree with you.

    • geekychick says:

IDK. I don’t think every girl or woman in the world should be seen as sexy. And I do think that it’s a matter of taste. There a re surely people on this planet who do find her sexy, and I think that if she is bothered by hen “non-sexy appeal” she is probably bothered because media and public pushes it as a “must” so much. Did whole world perceive Coco Chanel as sexy? Or Edith Piaf? I don’t. I still think they were great at their job, and if I’m not mistaken they had pretty eventful love life, so obviously, some people thought they were sexy. I just don’t think that tobe perceived as “not sexy” is something a woman should be pitied on.

  41. serena says:

I seriously didn’t get the whole video’s meaning. Also Selena Gomez’s wig was awful.

  42. The New Classic says:

    1) this video is everything I needed it to be.. And I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing.

    2) I’ve tried to stop loving Selena but I cant.

    3) Cara and Zendaya are what make this video. Everyone else (including Swifty) can just go home.

    4) Wow Carlie Kloss really is gorgeous.

    5) At what point did the people making this video think to themselves “We obviously need Cindy Crawford in this masterpiece!”

    6) Lena Dunham needs to GTFO. Actually, she should be deported off the planet.

  43. Ana says:

Sin City + Fifth Element + Britney’s Toxic (or Alias) = This video

I liked it though…well mostly. It seems like just like different video’s stuck together. Not enough flow in it. I guess after a few watches I’ll love it, because that’s how it goes with me and Swifty

  44. UESider says:

I feel like, at this point, Tay is really buying into her own hype. I’d never judge her for going sexier with her look, but it comes after years of judging other girls and young women for doing the same and really using the whole “girl next door” image. That made her super relatable to me, and I’m sure a whole slew of other girls who weren’t popular and weren’t trying to be. And I wonder if, (like Emma Watson, at least for me), it’s hard to find see her as sexy because she came onto the scene so young and seems sort of… permanently fixed at that age?

I still appreciate her being so good to her fans (with the exception of that livestream fiasco, which just seemed straight up greedy??), but I’ve noticed lately that so much of it self-congratulatory. Like that video of her putting all of the Christmas presents together? The internet already knew that was happening–it just made it read to me as, look how great I am. I don’t know… I think she’s really savvy and has a great mind for business and marketing, but I’m glad she’s going on tour soon and will hopefully disappear for a little while before she gets totally overexposed.

I didn’t realize I had so many thoughts on her… sorry!

P.S. Has she ever NOT appeared in one of her videos? I kept thinking the whole thing would have been 10x better if it had just been Karlie and Cara duking it out. Like, what was the point of Lena Dunham, other than to sit and smoke a cigar??

    • We Are All Made of Stars says:

I agree with most of what you have said here….but how astute of a businessperson or an image manager can you be if you can’t separate yourself from your own hype, or if there’s no you left anymore to separate? The truth of the matter is that she’s always been about image. She was crafted in the public eye as a downhome gee-golly-gosh-darn country girl when the truth was that she was a rich, privately educated tone deaf Northerner who grew up in a 6,000 square foot mansion in Pennsylvania and whose financial executive parents have bought her a recording career. Her confectionary image of saccharine sweetness and stunning earnestness was just as much a load of bull as her newfound attempts to be sexy. The only difference is that she’s now exposed herself as a raging hypocrite beyond any shadow of a doubt. I’ve never believed the stories about her wunderkind business genius.

  45. OhDear says:

Her career’s always been more about PR instead of the music. IMO, the video’s just further proof of that.

  46. Mimz says:

Minority her but I’m team TAY TAY
Especially because I freaking HATE this song in the album. The original one sounds like a pre-school anthem for frenemies or something. But this version with Kendrick is cool (even though I don’t understand his presence in the video – at all).

I like the video it got me excited and all giddy (I’m not 15 i’m 29) and even though It is an immature-esque song, I love what she did there. Girl Power!

Ps- Also for the first time EVER I saw what makes Cara D such a mesmerizing woman. Hot damn.

It was fun! Like the video. I’d take that over the Jiggling asses and boob shaking we are seeing the likes of even Hilary Duff doing these days.

    • I Choose Me says:

Cara D has presence. She was the most interesting and memorable woman in the video to me for the five seconds she was on screen.

  47. Thunderthighs says:

Lol. This girl just brings out so much hate in people… I liked the video. 😂

  48. Dr.Funkenstein says:

This thing is so lame it’s limping all the way to the Lameatorium. Where they will bury it and her hair.

    • Zombie Shortcake says:

I hope so. It boggles the mind that something can be so over the top and mundane at the same time.

  49. AuroraBorealis says:

Even Jessica Simpson did it better (video with celeb friends-wise) with, “A Public Affair”. At least it wasn’t just two second clips of Christina Milan and Eva Longoria.

Taylor friend collecting only the most popular pep let and the hottest of models makes me think that she probably thinks it raises her own “hotness”. She tags along and collects more supermodels than Leo.

  50. The Original Original says:

Is that Elle Goulding? I thought she was very close with Ed Sheeran? Seems weird that she would have Elle in her video.

    • Anne says:

Yeah, that’s weird. Elle’s quite prominent in the UK, I think, so it could be that her inclusion was a marketing-led decision rather than just based on personal choice.

  51. Veronica says:

The video itself is fine. It’s FUN, which is what a pop video should be. It’s just the song that I hate – by far my least favorite on the album, though at least it’s not as bad as “We are Never Getting Back Together.” It’s decent as a hate listen that you sing at the top of your lungs in the car, enjoying how awful the lyrics are.

And I hated her Billboard look. Way too aging, and the implants were really distracting.

  52. Lovelym09 says:

What a bunch of haters! I’m not a Taylor Swift fan, and I loved the video! Didn’t see a Katy Perry reference anywhere?! Loved the concept and how over the top it was, girl is at the top of her game! Nice to see a female music video that isn’t trashy!! (P.S. I could’ve gone without seeing Lena Dunham..IMO)

    • Amy says:

A video entirely dedicated to insulting another female entertainer isn’t trashy?

She’s just such a hypocrite. She ‘hates’ when people pounce on her songs and try to figure out who they’re about but makes sure to drop plenty of bread crumbs and have public relationships/blow outs.

Now with this song she had plenty of better songs on her album, she was already charting with other singles, and the press for this had been it was a Katy Perry diss song so what does she do? She hypes it up by making it into whole spectacle with Selena donning a black wig.

  53. LA Juice says:

Taylor is a goddess, she looks great. She’s an amazing role model for young girls and I would happily take my niece to see a million of TS concerts over 1 Katy Perry concert. I hope and pray my niece ;learns how to navigate this world as Taylor has, and not the way other celebrities do.

And if this song, etc… is about the Katy Perry thing- Katy Perry started the faulking war- so what if Taylor won…

  54. coffeeisgood says:

It was fun and cute. I doubt it was supposed to be some dig at Katy Perry. I think she just wanted to make a fun video with all the women she admires and is friends with.

    • Samtha says:

Exactly! Maybe she wrote the song about Perry, but people are reading a lot of things into this video that just aren’t there. It’s a fun “girl power” video filled with pop culture references.

      • paleokifaru says:

But is it “girl power” or stereotyping and glorifying an image of how a tough girl also has to be sexy to men and other women? I think in this case Taylor chose the Sin CIty reference for the sole purpose of objectifying herself and her famous friends. And frankly since it didn’t seem to follow much of a story line and seemed only to be “See how hot I am? See how cool and hot my friends are?” I just didn’t think it worked for girl power. Lena Dunham is not a model or a hot young singer so she was not done up as a dominatrix. Same goes for the as lovely Hailee Steinfeld. It was all models, svelte musicians and Taylor trussed up and strutting around and I think in this case it sends a very bad message. I tried to like Swift thinking she was a better role model than she seems to be of late. Now I just associate her with a poor sense of humor, mean lyrics and an amazingly hypocritical attitude towards female empowerment and what it is to be a mean girl.

  55. Jana says:

Taylor looks just Jeannine Pettibone from Spinal Tap in these photos.

  56. Christy says:

I thought it was cute and highly doubt that the video was an (expensive) jab at Katy Perry. Even if the song was originally written about her, what was Taylor Swift supposed to do, make some sweet benign video so no one would think she was dissing Katy Perry? I saw nothing in the video that would make me think about Katy Perry.

  57. tabasco says:

I foresee the birth of many a teen girl posse Halloween/Slutoween group costume in this video.

I want to be Frostbyte! No, I get to be Frostbyte!

  58. I Choose Me says:

The song sucked but video was alright. Spotted the homage to Fifth Element and thought the outfits looked fun but I continue lol at the thought of anybody running and fighting in stiletto shoes. Unless they use said shoes as a weapon of course.

  59. perplexed says:

How is this song supposed to relate to Katy Perry? The song sounds like it’s about an ex-lover.

  60. Jessica says:

The video is awful. If she’d had a quarter of the cameos and actually given them all something to do, it could have been awesome. Instead it’s just a bunch of people standing around in costumes while their ‘names’ flash on the screen. And sadly in the case of about half these people, that’s long enough to tell they can’t act a damn.

Cara D has amazing presence though. 5 seconds of her was way more interesting than whatever Taylor was doing throughout the whole video.

  61. Lucy says:

Funny, as it is intended to be. This time, you’re actually taking her more seriously than she is.

  62. Bread and Circuses says:

*sigh* I’m still jazzed about the non-sexualized portrayal of women as strong, capable, and resourceful in Mad Max: Fury Road.

And then out comes this video where women are portrayed as cool mainly because they look like some man’s hyper-sexualized fantasy. (And certainly not because they look competent. Oy, those fight scenes are an embarrassment.)

I would have rolled my eyes at this video a few days ago, but right now, I think it’s grotesque.

  63. M.A.F. says:

WHAT DID I JUST WATCH? If MTV was still around and the network matter, I could see this happening. But now? WTF? The song is terrible and Swift will always be a mean girl.

  64. Lola says:

I’m really lost here, I don’t listen to Swift. The song is about her Bad Blood allegedly with Katy P., and I am to understand that the people that participated knew this and wanted to be part of “the hot mess”? Or were they on it because they got paid?

The video was ok. The song… well, I just don’t listen nor like her music tbh, seemed like she was the featuring” singer though, not the lead.

  65. Sarah says:

Lol shouda spent a tenth of the time she took to make this video writing the actual song. It’s terrible!

  66. OTHER RENEE says:

The song is blah. The video is embarrassing. No matter how many skin tight outfits she wears, no matter how hard she tries, Swifty can’t do sexy. Why are all these people lowering themselves to be involved? I guess money can buy friends.

I used to not mind her mediocre voice but it’s starting to grate on my nerves.

  67. ccinkissimmee says:

Just came to say….HEY Zendaya gurl! I see you doing your thing!
